Separate accounts in home sharing?

we recently got a new desktop PC to replace an aging laptop.  the laptop ran xp and me and my wife had separate log ins and what i'm guessing was our "own" itunes.  she could sync her stuff and i could sync mine without any of her stuff getting on mine and vice versa.  using home sharing, now all of our music is in one giant library.  i went to sync my ipad, but i'm concerned because it looks like it will dump everything in there including her music.  How to i separate the accounts where she sees and syncs her stuff, but i can see and sync just mine?  i thought that since you have to turn on home sharing on both computers under the individual apple ID log ins that it would separate based on that, but clearly does not work that way.  please help.

on the new computer, create two user accounts again.

We have two iTunes accounts on one computer. Why is my music, apps, etc showing in my husbands account? Home sharing is NOT selected. This recently became an issue when we added additional devices. Now we keep getting each other's apps!

He intentado creando nuevas cuentas y desinstalando iTunes y volviendolo a instalar.
Favor de orientarme en la solucion adecuada para el asunto comentado anteriormente.

  • Can a family of four share one i tunes account with home sharing?

Can a family of four share one i tunes account with home sharing?

Sure but it depends more on how many and what kinds of devices are being connected to each other for Home Sharing. Up to five computers can be authorized to use iTunes Home Sharing. I don't believe there is a limit on the number of iOS devices, Apple TVs, iPhones, iPads and iPod Touchs, that can connect using Home Sharing.

Have done both suggestions, still not working. Could it have somehting to do with my local network? I am using a wireless Internet provided by my apartment building so not sure if apple tv and my computer are not technically on the same "local network?"
apple tv and main computer are connecting to Internet fine. Just cannot see my itunes on apple tv.
any other advice? My itunes is turned on to home sharing. i entered the same apple itunes account into aple tv. but appletv keeps saying my computer's home sharing is not turned on...but it is.

  • HT3819 I am a teacher. I have an iPhone and iPad for personal use.  I also have an iPod and now an iPad for school use.  Would it be best for me to use home sharing on all 4 devices, or should I split my account and have separate accounts for home & schoo

My first i device was an iPod touch that I was given for use in my classroom.  Then I got an iPhone for personal use.  Both items are listed under the same username and account.  Since then I now have 2 iPads, one for home and one for work.  I have many apps that are only for work like Math Zombie and Science Facts, and many that are for personal use, like Facebook and YouVersion.  I know that I can synch each device and tell iTunes which apps go on which device.  However at home I use a Mac, and my school computer is a PC.  I am wondering if I should split my account and keep personal separate from work.  Then I can synch all school related devices on the PC and home devices on the Mac.  I realize that there maybe the rare occaision that I might want one app for both accounts.  That's the chance I take on splitting my account.  Are there ay benefits one way or the other?

Will you be the person paying for apps on both accounts?
Are you the only person that will use both of the iPads?
Is there a chance students will be using the work iPad and if so, do you want personal data stored on it?
If you're the only one using it I'd keep the same account just to have the flexibility of having access to everything on all devices. If your students will be using it or if the school is paying for the school apps I'd keep separate accounts. It all depends on how often you will use school apps from home, and home apps at school. Just some things to consider...

  • How can a family with multiple existing accounts use Home Sharing?

I'd like to use the new Home Sharing feature, but it appears to be restricted to families in which all of the family members share a single user account.
We already have separate accounts for each family member. Is there some way for us to use Home Sharing without abandoning most of our existing accounts, along with all of the purchases made by those accounts? I don't think anyone in this situation would be willing to do that.

Eh. I am not too sure since I have not messed with it much but I do have a great deal of experience with multiple accounts. Each computer can be authorized for multiple accounts. As can iPods. iPods can sync songs/videos/apps from multiple accounts as long as the computer is authorized with them. What I have set up here, is I buy my stuff I want, my parents buy what they want and so do my brothers. When my bro gets something I want I just move it to my computer. That way all our accounts are separate, but if there is something I want I can get it. Also, since the music no longer has DRM, it won't matter. It will play on any computer. What you should see is if you can just do the shared library with multiple accounts. Then if you don't have videos or such, you can get apps or music. Hope this helps!

  • ITunes accounts and home sharing

First thank you in advance for all your help. I will really need it.  My hubby and I both have itunes accounts. My hubby wants me to close my iTunes acct and use his, that way we can use home sharing on all our devices. I have no problem with closing my acct, but I don't want to lose all my pictures. I don't mind losing all my apps. I can re-download those. But I don't want to lose my pictures. Please help me. I'm not very good with apple as I am a PC user, but my hubby felt the need to upgrade me with a Mac book air, because my net book is dying. If it helps these are the devices that we are working with, ip5, ip4, iPod, iPad mini*2 and a Mac book air. I do well with step by step instruction. If there is a way to merge our accounts without losing data that would be super great. Any help is appreciated and welcome. TIA apple community

No. All iTunes purchases remain permanently tied to the account used to purchase them. You can however authorize your computer for multiple accounts and any Apple devices can hold protected content from up to five different accounts at any one time.
If you are trying to merge two separate iTunes libraries into one that is a different problem. Take the largest, add all the content from the smallest, then dedupe.

  • Can you have more than one iTunes account with home sharing, Can you have more than one iTunes account with home sharing

Can you have more than one itunes account at one time with apple tv

My understanding is that the home sharing is based off of being on the same Wifi.  So if someone brings their laptop to your house and connects to your Wifi and they have home sharing on they can connect so you can see his/her iTunes library on your iTunes.
I haven't tried this though.  We have two laptops at home, both using my iTunes account and I can see each other's iTunes library, which I'm guessing is what you're probably doing now.  I'd be interested to know if my thought above is true.

  • Should I switch from shared iCloud account with wife to two separate accounts with family sharing?

My wife and I have always shared 1 iCloud accpunt between our our 5s phones, iPad, and an old 4s which is now just a toy for our toddler. With ios 8 I am not sure if it is possible or practical any more. We do it to share purchases and the photo stream and a Google calendar.
With ios 8, it seems to be impossible for both of our phones to share their location. From what I can tell, only 1 device at a time on the icloud account can share its location. Is that a correct assumption? And icloud no longer gives the option for each of us to sign into separate itunes accounts on find my friends. We are forced to sign in with our 1 shared iCloud account. So we can no longer use find my friends to see each other's location.
So has ios8 rending sharing an iCloud account useless? I'm wondering if we now need to have separate accounts and link them with family sharing. Will we lose the benefits of having our 1 shared account? I just wanted to make sure we wouldn't lose anything if I set her up with a new account and linked it with family sharing.

I have lots of questions about this and other things too; I have been sharing my account with my wife and daughter for years through 10s of iPhones and iPads and with the introduction of IOS8 we are having lots of new and not so fun problems.
As to your question about location.  I have three iPhones and one iPad using the same account now (on IOS 8) and all four devices show up with Find my iPhone.  My wife's was not showing up today but I went in and turned on the new feature "Send last Location" and all of a sudden her phone was able to be found again.  Not sure if that will solve your problem but just wanted you to know that I have the four devices all showing up in Find my iPhone with a shared account.

  • HT3819 Can I merge two iTunes accounts into one account for home sharing?

I now have two children with iTunes accounts. Unbeknownst to me, we should have set up a home sharing network. I need to merge these two accounts to one account so we have only one home sharing account and do not loose any songs and media. Any ideas on how to accomplish this, or is it not possible?

Sorry to say but these Accounts cannot be merged...
    From Here   http://support.apple.com/kb/HE37
I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to merge them into a single Apple ID?
Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.

Just bought my kids each an iPod touch.  I would like them to use the same computer, with separate WinXP logins, with separate iTunes accounts but be able to share a library.

  • Can you transfer between itunes accounts using home sharing

I am wanting buy an Ipad 2 as a present and pre load some apps for them on it. Ill have to sync it to my itunes account to do this. so how do i go about ensuring what i have downlaoded doesnt get lose when they then use their itunes account? Would having to 2 accounts on one computer help?

Apps are locked to the iTunes Store account under which they were purchased and cannot be transferred to another account. Unless the recipient of this gift will be living with you or is someone who you would trust with your iTunes Store account ID and password, preloading the iPad won't be practical since, without your iTunes Store account information, anything you load on the iPad will be erased when the recipient syncs it to their computer. You can gift the apps, if you wish, which would allow the recipient to download the apps through his or her own iTunes Store account. Or you can give an iTunes card along with the iPad and let the person choose their own apps.
    Regards.
