Separate Apple ID but same ITunes account?

I share an I tunes account with my daughter for our I Phones and my I Pad. When I Message is turned on, I get her texts and vice versa. Can I create an Apple ID for her but still use the same I Tunes account

Yes, your entire family can use one AppleID just for purchases in the iTunes and App Stores, then each of you can use your own unique AppleIDs for all other services (iCloud accounts, iMessage accounts and so on).
You can have as many AppleIDs as you wish (or have email addresses for), and you can use a different one for each service Apple offers, if you wished to.
By doing what you suggest, you also limit the number of AppleIDs with payment information associated with them, so there is only one single AppleID that can be compromised that way.  Keeping one AppleID for purchases and another (with no payment information tied to it) for everything else is not a bad practice for anyone to follow.

I have one itunes account with mulitple libraries for each device (one iphone, 4 ipods).  The one iphone is connected via the cloud.  everytime a new song or app is added to the account it is placed in all of the libraries.  I want to add another iphone to the acccount when I tried it replaced the contacts with the contacts on the iphone already on the account.  How do I prevent that from happening and can I have two iphones on the same account and use the cloud on both

I have two iphone users sharing one apple id and itunes account. Can I snc both phones to the itunes account without sharing each others info i.e. photos, music, contacts? I am afradi to sync one and lose the information the other one has.

A solution would be to use Apple's iCloud to sync instead of iTunes. This requires the latest operating system, iOS 5. Now backups will be done to the cloud, and you can choose what gets synced across your devices by turning them off in iCloud settings (i.e. turn off Calendars, Photos, etc.).

  • 2 Separate iPod Users, but 1 iTunes account - how to separate downloads?

New users here. One computer; one iTunes. My daughter has her iPod; I have my iPod. I don't want her music on my iPod, and vice versa. How do we download or sync and get only the music we have each chosen in iTunes? Thanks for any help you can give me.

There are basically two methods for organizing multiple iPods' content on one computer; create separate user acounts, or separate playlists to sync for each iPod (I find the playlists to be convenient).

  • I have 2 iPhone 4S's, one is personal, one purchased by work for me. Can I use the same iTunes account to sync both phones while keeping the contacts that are synced as separate lists for personal phone and work phone, but also allow same apps for both?

I'm hoping someone out there knows if I can use 1 apple ID and 1 iTunes account to sync 2 different iPhone 4S's  - one for personal use, and one for work use. I would like to be able to sync with the same music and app's on both, but need to keep the contacts and calendars completely separate between the 2 phones since I don't want personal data on the work phone or work data on the personal phone. Can you help me figure this out?

    Yes!
Luckily, if you be very careful and pay attention to what you have selected in itunes, you can separate these things
Basically, in iTunes, there are tabs at the top for Summary, info, apps, etc..
These tabs control PER DEVICE what syncs between itunes and the device.
Therefore, you can plug iPhone 4S #1 in, and select to sync contacts with address book, then do so.  Then plug iPhone 4S #2 in, and not choose to sync with address book.  iTunes will keep these settings separate. However, in that situation for music and apps, you would check to sync both on both, in order to get all music and apps on each.
The only thing to watch out for, each computer 'user' has only one set of address book and ical, meaning that if you want to sync both phones to the computer, but dont want to mix contacts, only one phone will be able to sync contacts and/or calendars.  Basically, each category in the Info tab will only hold one device's information, so you CAN do contacts with iPhone 4S #1, and calendars with #2.

  • My partner and I have now both got an apple mac we share the same itunes account but want to use different icloud id's so that I dont get all her documents sync to my computer... is this possible?

my partner has an ipad and i have a mac book pro... we share the same itunes account (apple id) but believe we can have a seperate apple id for use of the icloud... we do not want each others documents to be in sync with ipad and mac book... help? thanks

Each of you should set up your separate iCloud account on your own computer using your Apple ID. This gives you two independent iCloud accounts.
Note that an iPad is not a multi-user device. It can only be synced with one account.

    Hi tomgoggs,
iTunes purchases do not count against your iCloud memory space. See this article for what iCloud is used to store -

  • HT3819 Home Share issue: I have a Mac and Apple TV. Both are log into the same Wifi network and the same iTunes account (I can view purchased movies on AppleTV). Home Sharing shows 'ON' for both devices. BUT...AppleTV shows no computers. Itunes sidebar-no

Has anyone else found solution to Apple devices not 'seeing' each other on Home Share?  I have a Macbook Air (new Nov'12) and Apple TV (new Dec'12). Software updated on both. Both are logged into the same Wifi network and the same iTunes account (I can view movies purchased from iTunes on my AppleTV). Home Sharing shows 'ON' for both devices. BUT...AppleTV shows no computers... and ... Itunes sidebar does not have a 'Shared' area at all.  Help please as without this functionality, my Apple TV only provides portal to purchased (i.e. Netflix,...) content which I can get from Wii or Xbox.
I have already tried the following without success:
    1. Homeshare DID work the first day after I setup Apple TV... but the next day it has not worked since then.
    2. Powered off 30 sec then re-started (Apple TV & Macbook & iTunes login)
    3. Checked Firewall settings per Home Sharing troubleshooting guide (correct settings)
    4. Turning on Photostream in iPhoto and selecting iPhoto within iTunes and then checking to see if Photostream shows anything on AppleTV (it shows 'on' for my iTunes account but 'Zero' pictures found ... despite the >3,000 pictures showing avail in iTunes).
I also have 'Remote" app on my iPhone 4, with Home Sharing turned on (same Wifi network)... it has a very similar message as the Apple TV and same result that despite all devices having HomeShare 'on' they cannot see each other:  "Remote will automatically find the iTunes libraries and Apple TVs that have Home Sharing turned on using the account xxxx (it lists my correct itunes account name)."

I solved this by reset of the Wifi (unplug cable and power to both modem and wifi ... wait 60 sec ... plug in modem cable and power ... plug in wifi power and LAN to modem ... restart AppleTV and Mac ... Turn Home Share 'OFF' in iTunes then back "ON" ... it took ~60 sec for the AppleTV to pick up my Mac in computers.

  • TS2972 I would like to share my iTunes libraries with my Apple TV from both my iMac and Macbook Pro, but I use the same iTunes account on both devices. Is it possible to link my Apple TV to both devices at the same time?

I recently purchased an Apple TV, and I currently have it linked to my iMac with my iTunes account. I also have a newer MacBook Pro that has some different iTunes media on it than my iMac does, but they share iTunes accounts. Is it possible to link both devices at the same time, have access to media on both computers, and use the same iTunes account on both computers?? It seems Apple TV will only link to one iTunes account per computer, but can access multiple computers if different iTunes accounts are activated on those computers.

You can share multiple libraries with the Apple TV, they don't even need to use the same iTunes account. Just make sure that you use the same ID for homesharing on all devices.

  • HT5538 How do you created different apple ID's on same iTunes account? Wife and 2 kids contacts are all linked on my phone and got to separate! Any help would be appreciated!

My contacts are merging with wife, son and daughter. How do we create separate ID's but still maintain same iTunes account?

You can use separate AppleIDs for iCloud, iMessage and iTunes - you just need to create unique AppleIDs for the iCloud accounts if syncing contacts that way (you will need an email address that is not already registered as an AppleID though to get another AppleID).
Apps are different: purchases are tied to the AppleID used to log in to the store to make the purchase.  So you can create another AppleID for iTunes as well and use different ones on the different phones, but any apps you have already purchased with your existing AppleID are permanently tied to that AppleID.
So,  unless you are sharing apps, content and such, there is no reason to use the same AppleID on each  So the simplest solution is to create new AppleID(s) for other devices.  If you need an email address to do that, just get a gmail account (or any other free email account).
    Good luck

  • My wife and I have been using the same iTunes account, but would like to have separate apps on our phones.  How can I set up a separate account for her?

My wife and I have been using the same iTunes account for both our iPhones, but she wants separate apps from mine.  How can I set up a second account in her name, delete the apps on her phone and start from scratch with just the apps she wants on her phone?

If you have the old phone, connect it to iTunes, right click on the device, and choose transfer purchases.  If you no longer have the old phone, I don't believe there is a way to recover them, as they were on your original device.

  • How do I use the same iTunes account on 2 separate PCs?

Ok. I am new to Itunes in general & know there is probably an easy fix/explanation to my question.
Is there a way to use my same iTunes account for music downloading on 2 separate computers? I have iTunes downloaded on my home desktop computer but am wanting to use the same account on my computer for school? Is there a way to be able to share the songs on both computers without having to use like an external hard drive or cd or another method to transfer them between the 2. I want to be able to just download a song on one computer & then log in &  it be there on the other one? Thanks!

My daughter and I share the same ITunes account.  How can we separate the accounts?

I shared my iTunes account with my 2 daughters for years.  A few months ago, switched to iOS 8 and Yosemite and upgraded to Family Sharing.  We can still share music/apps/etc, BUT now everyone in the family has their own playlists, document, etc.  Works great.
