Separate Audio/Video Question

I'm in the midst of transitioning from iMovie/iDVD to Final Cut Studio. In the last chapter of FCP6: Beyond the Basics, I sent a sequence to Compressor and generated an Audio file and a Video file. The book didn't really say anything about what happens next. I tried it with my first FCP video, (which I had previously simply exported as a QT file and dropped into iDVD, and as I write this I can see that it processing a Dolby Digital file and an MPEG-2. Admittedly, I haven't cracked the book on DVD Studio Pro yet, in fact, I haven't really opened the app except to glance at the interface, and my question will probably be answered there, but what's going to happen next. When I open up DVD Studio Pro, will I be selecting both of these files for the project and then they'll just automatically sync?

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Community Forums.
Let's keep this thread focused on the dialing issue, and I suggest you take up the picture/messaging issue in a separate thread in the Audio, Video and Photos board.
First question is whether the phone has behaved this way from day one, or if it just started after working correctly for a few weeks. You could try soft-resetting the phone...remove the battery and wait a minute, then reinsert, start it up and try again. If that doesn't work, a Hard Reset might be in order, which wipes everything clean and lets you start over. This can correct issues relating to corrupt data or conflicting third-party applications which may have found their way onto the Centro. This article discusses the various types of Reset for different Palm devices.
After the Hard Reset, do not synchronize the phone with your desktop. See if the phone works normally.
Another issue might be a bad SIM card, but I don't know enough about that...the folks at the AT&T store should be able to verify whether the card is good or not.
If all else fails, return it to your AT&T store for a replacement. AT&T has a 30-day return policy for any reason.
Good luck, please let us know how it turns out.

  • Why does it separate audio & video?

I have a few divX that I'd like to burn to DVD, however, when I import them into iDVD it separates the audio & video (Project info - assets), thus making the actual video seemingly twice as long, so I can only burn have as much to a DVD ... why is that?
I understand iDVD doesn't natively support divX, but have the proper codecs to do it ... so just curious if it's still a result of iDVD not quite fully understanding divX? but even still, once I convert to .MOV it still separates ...
so confused ... and frustrated ....

yeah, I'm guessing that it's the compression that will change things ... whenever I put a divX file in, it said it was taking up twice as much space as the file originally was, so I guessed that meant audio & video ... but that could just be coincidental ...
In all my stupidness I was judging based on file size, not run time. I'm trying to throw a few rugby games onto DVD, each being 1hr20min. Roughly 1gb/game ... on a 4.7Gb DVD i figured I could comfortably get 3 games .... I just realized my folly just before checking back here for answers ... doh!!
    dumb dumb dumb.
oh well, live and learn ... again.
As an aside ... why is it that on my package of DVDs it makes reference to different modes (Standard, Long Play, Extend Play, etc.) and how many hours can fit on the disc ... those are usually VHS modes, aren't they? so I'm assuming (I should stop that) that I can't use this info for my divX file, cause if I could fit 6 hrs onto a disc (which the package says I could if I used Extended Play), then I should be able to fit the rugby games on ... but alas I can't, so I'm assuming this doesn't apply to me ...
sigh ... sometimes I wish the guys at my local electronics dealer would be more knowledgeable ... but that's not likely to happen anytime soon, especially if they're on commission

  • Adobe Air - Audio/Video questions

I have several questions, but first I would like to say I know that FMS can record a stream to the server. I have developped a test application and understand how this works. My intent is to hopefully find a better solutions for my task. It seems that what I'm trying to do isn't standard if possible, and I am have no luck on finding anything on the web.
Is it possible to get raw audio byte array? In C++ (Window OS) there are Waveform Functions that allow a process to capture audio in a byte array (waveInOpen). Is there simular functionality in Flash? That is, is there a way to get a byte array of the audio stream?
Is it possible to get raw video byte array? I have found that you can draw video to a BitmapData type. This wouldn't give me a good solution. Again relating this to C++, is there an equivalent to Video Capture Macros (capSetCallbackOnVideoStream)? That is, is there a way to capture raw video byte array?
Also, both of these needs to be going on while both audio/video are connected to a netstream.
If both of these are possible, my questions would be can the same be done for remote Audio/Video from a remote computer? I assume that since a remote netstream is connected to a Video type it can be drawn to a BitmapData type, but how would you get audio data?
My next step would be to send these byte arrays to an external app using Flash BinarySocket.
Any direction, link, suggestions, and/or comment would be appreciated.

yes, AIR uses SQLite (3.6.*.? now one exactly knows as it is undocumented and sqlite_version() native function will throw runtime error to be handled)

there is an option now to create native installer for platform which could be send off-line. It asks user to overwrite content if application is already installed, etc

please define "interact" with USB? as disk or interface to talk with some device? Air itself cannot talk to low level ports but could start native process (NativeProcess) to some application/tool/process that could act as middle-tier between your application and usb:

  • Sync separate audio & video files at different TC rates

I have Quicktime files of footage shot in DVCPRO HD at 720/60p (60 frames). I have audio recorded as wave files (30 frames). Unfortunatly, most the timecodes don't match. So, I have to visibly match up the mark by revealing the waveforms. But, sometimes they are off due to the diff. frame rates they were recorded at, so they're half a frame off.
How can I get them to match perfectly in the shortest amount of time? (I have hundreds of clips to match up, time is money)
    ~reicko

Yeah, it is pretty close. And I'm also the audio mixer.... any tips?
Figured you might be one...being able to spot half a frame off sync. Sorry, I am not an audio mixer...so I don't. This is something that would be handled in the audio mixing software, like protools or Logic. BUT, for the way to do it in FCP, go here:
    http://proappstuff.com/proapptipsvideotutorials/879F6B61-CFF9-4FD1-8D43-FDF89605 611A/BE5CA6A0-2D41-4F89-955C-16A05AC2A383.html
Once it's finished though, I need to do a pulldown to SD. Do I need a Kona, I see you have one, or can FCP hanlde this? Output too....what format of SD? DV? Beta? Digibeta? DV50? What? If to a format that can be output to via firewire (DV, DV50) then no, you can downconvert in FCP by dropping the finished cut into a DV or DV50 sequence and rendering, then outputting. But for Beta or Digibeta, you need an HD capture card. Decklink cards are another option...but I love my Kona.
Actually, this is my first HD edit and have a few more questions and would love to pick your brain if possible.

Not sure that I have selected the correct forum.  Hope my questions are clearly stated.
Having problems connecting iMac(late 2006) running 10.7.5 to a Samsung Flat Screen TV using separate audio/speaker cable and HDMI standard cable, mini-DVI to HDMI video converter.  TV displays generic Apple galaxy background and "some" windows (e.g. screen resolution choices).   It does not show Mail or Safari menus.  System preferences'  display "gathered" the Samsung and chose its resolution.  I did not find a way to select the Samsung as my display.
In addition to having old hardware, we have Verizon FIOS providing internet and TV access.  Is there any way to make this work for us?  We would like to stream video (Netflix) and view shows from the Web.  Do we need Apple TV to do this?  Or is it not possible with our old iMac?  My husband thinks that our Airport could be a factor.
    Thank you

Lately, I have been seeing a lot of posts with users trying to use their Macs/iMacs to mirror their streaming video from their Macs to an HDTV.
There are, actually, many alternatives to choose from than just from a Mac.
You need to have or invest in a WiFi capable router for all of these examples.
Apple TV only integrates with WiFi and newer Mac hardware. So, if you want to have total integrated experience, if you have a 2011 Mac or newer, you might as well pay the $100 for the AppleTV box.
If you have a older Mac, like I have noticed many users do, then you have other options.
If you want to elimate long cable clutter and having your Mac at the mercy of your TV all of the time,  you can still use the AppleTV box independently or purchase cheaper alternative media streaming boxes from Roku, Sony, Boxee or any number of electronics manufacturers that now have media streaming boxes and media streaming capability built into DVD/Blu-ray players.
These eliminate long cable clutter by being close to the HDTV where shorter, less expensive cables can be used.
Another alternative for iPad users is to use an iPad with the USB/HDMI video adapter and use your iPad as the streaming box. This ties up your iPad in much the same way as it does with your Mac, but again the iPad can be close to the TV and use minimal cables to the TV.
Another alternative to is to use a combination of an iPad and your Mac to stream content that is only available to stream online from a computer. In this case, you can use a desktop remote app on your iPad and Mac. A good and cheap Desktop Remote app is Splashtop Remote. This allows you to completely connect your iPad remotely, over Wifi, to your iMac desktop. The app streams both video and sound to the iPad which is still connected to your HDTV. The resultant stream video picture will be smaller than the size of your HDTV, but it will still be plenty large enough to watch. Again, if you own a iPad and an Intel Mac, this method also allows minimal cabling to the TV.

  • Macbook - tv, audio & video on separate channels?!

so i'm on a quest to watch movies that are stored on my macbook's hard drive on my 36" insignia hdtv.
i have separate connections for the video and audio. the video is connected through hdmi, and the audio cord connects my headphone jack to a red/white thing on the tv. i also have a dvd player, videogames, etc plugged into the tv. when i use a component (like the dvd player or macbook) i have to select an individual input (such as hdmi1, hdmi2, component1, etc).
the issue? when streaming the movie on the macbook, the video shows on input "hdmi2" with no sound, and the sound can be heard on "component2" with a black screen. i can only select one input at a time.
what am i missing? how can i use see both audio & video on one channel if they are in separate inputs??
    thanks!

My mistake about my TV, it only has TOS link output. But I do have 2 DVRs, the TV, and a DVD+R connected to a RS passive 4-way selector and fed into a DVD speaker system for better sound when I feel like it. TOS link is an fiber-optic cable with small connectors. I have not tested my MacBook but supposedly the sound jack is also the optical output jack and there a reports of red glows from it. Normally TOS links screw on to something with the fiber in a metal cylinder that could go into the jack. Probably something in the manual--yes, it's labeled "Headphone out/optical digital audio out port" on pp. 22-23 but has no real info. I don't have/want any videos to test the Book output, today.

  • Separate audio from video - I want BOTH an audio and video file

    Hi,
I would like to separate audio from video - I want BOTH an audio and video file.
I don't think this can be done without additional software, but if it can, pointing me in the right direction would be much appreciated.
    Brandon

You need Quicktime 7.6 Pro. Control+J to bring up the property window. In the property window is an extract button. Click on either the video or audio and click to the extract button.
You'll find Quicktime 7 in your Utilities folder. If Quicktime 7 isn't install in the Utilities folder you need to install it from you OS installation disk, in the optional installations folder.
If you don't have Quicktime Pro you need to buy it from the Apple store.

  • Exporting (in H.264 format in HD 720p 23.976 preset) and audio comes out separate while video file is a .m4v instead of .mp4

    Using Premier Pro CC 2014.
Exporting (in H.264 format in HD 720p 23.976 preset) and audio comes out separate while video file is a .m4v instead of .mp4.
Anybody know why audio and video are exporting separately? I can't figure out why. Help is much appreciated.

Thank you for the quick response. Unfortunately, that doesn't fix it.
I have the same issue when I try to export it through Adobe Media Encoder. I even tried to go through using After Effects and export through Adobe Media Encoder with the same results. I'm wondering if I might be better off uninstalling then reinstalling all my adobe programs.

  • How do I combine separate audio and video files into one Quicktime movie?

I have DVDs that contain separate audio and video files in folders marked Audio_TS and Video_TS. I would like to know how to combine these files into a single Quicktime movie. Is there inexpensive or shareware software that imports and unites these files reliably? A simple solution is preferred, rather than getting into complex media editing applications.
    G4 eMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Doug - the VOB files (in the VIDEO_TS folder) are MPEG-2 files. MPEG-2 have the video and audio mixed into the one file - there are no audio files to combine.
The rest are directions to a DVD player (e.g. the BUP and IFO's) . The AUDIO_TS folder is used for DVD Audio discs and on video DVDs is always empty.
Many people use Handbrake or iSquint to convert VOB to iPod video though MPEG Streamclip is the best - open the first numbered VOB and it will prompt you to open all of them. ALWAYS fix timecodes when it asks. You can then edit/trim and export to MPEG-4.

  • Audio/Video Switch Question

    Heres the scenerio:
I have A JVC Wide Screen Projector that has (On the Back) component plugs and regular video plugs (Red, White, and yellow). I want to plug in the Apple tv to the TV, but that means I would be plugging the audio cables into another input. When I everything to the tv, I can see the apple tv, but I cannot hear anything because the audio plugs are plugged into another input.
On the tv side, If I plug in the component cables from one input and plug in audio-video from another input into the output on the switch.
Then plug the Apple tv into one of the inputs on the switch, will it work?
If the output on the switch is being plugged into two different inputs on the tv, will the apple tv be able to play sound and be seen when its plugged into the switch?

The back of my TV has a component input (green red blue). It also has another input for Video (red, white, yellow).
I can get video on the Apple TV from the component, but when I connect the audio to the red, white, I get no sound.
I was thinking that I am connecting to two different inputs, so thats why I would need a audio/video switch.

  • How to trim audio transition separate from video duration?

I have a cut between two clips. I add a :15 transition default to audio/video. How can I trim the audio duration back to :05 leaving the video at :15 without first having to unlink (option/L) the two.
    What is the modifier key?
    FCP vers. 6

Actually, no. If you Unlink the audio & video (Option/L) on the first & second track, then the transitions can be adjusted individually. Both timing and position. Once they are right - relink (Option/L) again.
Weird, but I often use the default transition I have and then go thru this whole workaround to fine tune fade-ups or shift the centers of the two transitions. I just thought that there was a simpler step.

  • Unlink Audio & Video greyed out in Premeire Elements 13 (Windows 8.1) [new user]

I posted (or at least I thought the post worked) this question Mar.27th but I can't find it or any replies I may have gotten so if anyone knows its whereabouts I'd appreciate you're telling me how to see it so I won't have 2 threads running for the same question. My question is: why is the option to unlink the audio and video tracks greyed out when I'm trying to substitute part of an audio clip (without ruining the synchronization between the existing audio and video). I'm working with a saved "projectX.prel" file. I noticed when I opened a new project that the UNLINK option is active. This seems contrary to logic i.e wouldn't the unlink action be more likely to be needed when working on an existing file as opposed to when working on a brand new file? How can I separate the 2 components (audio & video) so I can edit just the audio clip without the UNLINK procedure working? Would really appreciate any help anyone can offer with any of the foregoing. Thanks.

    garryw
Thanks for the reply. Glad that suggestion C worked for you.
Is there any remote possibility that the video and audio are really unlinked to start.
Let us take suggestion A, you say that Link Audio and Video is active choice for what you believe to a linked video audio on the Timeline.
You have your clip in the Expert workspace and the clip is not selected as represented in screenshot 1.
If you click on the Video 1 portion of the clip, does the video portion and audio portion highlight to look like what you see in screenshot 2
where the video and audio portion both look highlighted.
Or, if you click on the Video 1 portion of the clip, is it just the video portion that looks highlighted and the audio part
continues to look unhighlighted? As seen in the next screenshot 3?
Depending on your answers, we may next delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file which can be found
    Local Disk C
    Users
    Owner
    AppData
    Roaming
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    13.0
and in the 13.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file which  you delete. If that does not work, then delete the whole 13.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Be sure to be working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives enabled so that you can see the complete path given.
As your schedule permits, looking forward to learning of your progress.
    Thanks.

  • How can I display & split the audio & video from the same digitized clip?

I digitized a scene into iMovie that I edited on a professional system which I don't have access to anymore. The whole scene is 1 clip. Now I see a few tweaks that I want to make, so I was hoping to do them in iMovie.
I want to "pull up" the audio in one section - meaning I want to take cut about 20 frames of audio from the end of a shot, and then move all the other audio up to fill the hole. To compensate for the missing 20 frames, I'll cut video off the head of the next shot. Some call this prelapping. Some call it an L-cut. Some call it asymmetrical trimming. Either way, I can't figure out how to do it in iMovie.
My clip appears in the timeline as one track - a single track that contains the video and 2 audio tracks. How can I display the audio that's tied to the video on its own track? Then I think I could split audio & video wherever I wanted and trim things up - but I can't figure out how to do it.
Am I asking too much of this software?
BTW, I never see the option to "Split audio clip at playhead". I'm not displaying clip volume or waveforms. Choosing to display waveforms doesn't show me anything. Maybe iMovie thinks I'd only want to see waveforms of audio that isn't tied to my video-and-audio clips?
Thanks in advance for any help...

    Jordon,
"Am I asking too much of this software?"
    No, you're not.
You first want to select your clip(s) and choose Advanced>Extract Audio.
This will copy the audio from the video clip and place it on one of the two separate audio tracks while lowering the audio level to zero in the original video track.
You can now edit and move the audio independently of the video.
With the audio clip selected, you'll find you now have access to Edit>Split Selected Audio Clip at Playhead.

  • 'Source play' and 'audio-video sync' problems with PE8 on fast WIN7 64 bit computer

I am transferring Hi8 videos, about 2 hours long, to my WIN7 64 bit computer with PE8.  [Dell Mobile Precision M4400 Computer Workstation (Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 500GB/4GB); NVIDIA Quadro FX 770M, 512MB] I seem to have several problems:
First, after importing the file (.avi), I get a message about ‘dropped frames.’
Secondly, when I try to play the video in the source monitor, the audio plays but the video doesn’t; it only shows the first frame [this is after waiting until the video is ?recognized? ]   I can use the shift-arrow key and see that the video is there.
Thirdly, I can play the .avi file in other players, e.g., avidemux or PE pro CS5 on another computer.  There, I see that the audio and video are not in sync; the audio can be up to 300 ms ahead of the video (as determined using avidemux).
    Questions:
    1.  Why doesn’t the source monitor play the video? Is this a problem with PE8 (latest update as of 3 March 2011) on aWIN7 64 bit computer (intel duo core. 3 GHz).
    2. Is the audio-video sync problem the result of the ‘dropped frames?’ How can PE8 correct this? Avoid this? Or, is it coincidence?

"I think you're telling me you're using a backwards compatible Digital8  camcorder to capture your video as DV-AVIs. Is that right?" YES
"Are you using  Premiere Elements to do this capturing?" YES, AS ABOVE PE8
"Go to the File menu and select Properties. It should show a standard DV codec being used for your video and audio."
WMP v12 is dumb. Under properties, media, it says 'video.'  However, avidemux gave me the information state above: video -- Codec 4CC: dvsd, frame rate: 29.971 fps; audio -- codec: PCM, channels: Stereo, frequency: 48 kHz.
    So, back to the Questions:

I use an airport extreme - my granddaughter has some kind of wifi - but the error was on my side not hers as she connected to her friends.
    Please help.
    Thank you.

Hi - I have a cable modem from comcast.
I am not sure I understand all your questions, suggestions - so I will copy what I have when I go into the airport utility under internet.
Do you have four tabs (You may have less)  I HAVE 4 TABS
In the First tab what does it read at the Bottom ?  AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FIRST TAB (INTERNET CONNECTION) IT DOES SAY "SHARE A PUBLIC IP"  WHEN I LOOK AT THAT SETTING - I COULD CLICK INSTEAD BRIDGE MODE OFF, OR DISTRIBUTE A RANGE OF IP ADDRESSES.  BUT FOR NOW THE ONE THAT IT IS ON IS THE SHARE A PUBLIC IP.
    "Share a Public IP" ?
    Or "Bridge (Off) Mode" ?
I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHERE TO LOOK FOR THE INFO BELOW.  I ALSO HAVE UNDER THE INTERNET CONNECTION TAB - CONNECT USING ETHERNET AND ETHERNET WAN PORT AUTOMATIC (DEFAULT)
THE 2ND TAB IS TCP/IP AND THERE IT LISTS CONFIGURE IPv4: USING DHCP
    IP ADDRESS: 69.138.244.124
    SUBNET MASK  255.255.248.0
    ROUTER ADDRESS  69.138.240.1
DNS SERVER  68.87.73.246  AND 68.87.71.230  (THESE ARE FILLED IN THE BOXES AND NOT CHANGEABLE.
    THE 3RD TAB IS DHCP
    DHCP BEGINNING ADDRESS 10.0 .1 .2
    DHCP ENDING ADDRESS 10.0.1.200
DHCP LEASE IS 1  THEN DAY
    4TH TAB NAT
CHECKED IS ENABLE NAT PORT MAPPING PROTOCOL
I HAVE BEEN USING THIS AIRPORT EXTREME FOR AT LEAST ONE YEAR.
THE ONLY DIFFERENT ISSUE IS THAT I HAD BEEN TRAVELING AND USED MY DAUGHTER'S AIRPORT EXTREME LAST WEEK.  I HAVE NO IDEA ANY OF THAT INFO - BUT I DO KNOW THAT THE AIRPORT EXTREME LISTED IN THE UTILITY IS THE ONE AT MY HOME THAT I AM WITH NOW.
THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO TRY TO HELP ME.  I REALLY APPRECIATE IT.
    JUDY
Between that drop down and the tabs should be the info  on how it connects to the Modem.
It may list that Puiblic IP.
It may list another LAN IP (one from the Modem)
    Does it start 192.168....
Or 172.16 (or up to 172.32....)
Or possibly another 10.... number ?
If the modem is issuing IPs to the LAN there are two things that can  effect things
One is the fact the computer gets two IPs (even though the mac can only display one)
And If you used Port Forwarding in the Modem the Place (IP/Computer or device) that it was pointing to may not be the Airport Base Station any more.
