Separate contacts via icloud?

my wife and i each have an iphone and ipad. is it possible to only share/sync our own contacts via cloud using only 1 apple ID?

I'm not sure if I understand your question, but if you are asking if you can share an iCloud account with the same ID and still keep sync you contacts separately the answer is no. You can, however, accomplish this by each setting up a second ("secondary") icloud account on your devices with a separate ID and sync your contacts only with the secondary account.
To do this, for example, on your iPhone and iPad, go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Add Account, select iCloud from the list, enter a separate Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get Free Apple ID at the bottom) and follow the instructions to set it up. Then turn Contacts to On in this secondary account, and turn Contacts to Off in the primary account (in Settings>iCloud). Do the same thing for your wife on her two devices. Now you will still be sharing your primary iCloud account as before, but you will not be sharing each other's contacts. Instead they will only be syncing with your separate devices via your secondary accounts.

iCloud supports .vcf files, only,
.vsd is a Visio file format.

We clicked on the Cloud before realizing we (my husband & I) would be sharing all of our phone contacts. We each have tons, so ideally we would like to get them out of the cloud. How do I achieve this without losing anyone's contact info?

I think we need more information.
You synced your contacts to iCloud - were there any contacts already in iCloud when you did this? Or was the iCloud account new? Had it been used previously by other devices?
Is the other phone (that provided additional contacts) syncing to the same iCloud account? Is this YOUR other iphone, or does it belong to someone else.
(Different users should use their own icloud accounts - that's how it's designed to work. You wouldn't want different users sharing the same emails, contacts, events, data from individual apps, etc. - at least most users wouldn't want all data shared with others.)

If you are sharing the same iCloud account any data you sync with the account (such as contacts) is merged, and any actions you take on one device (such as deleting contacts) also takes place on the device(s) sharing the account. To fix this, you need to be on separate iCloud accounts.
One of you needs to migrate their iCloud data to a separate iCloud account/ID. In your situation, this might be able to do with his phone. To do this, go to Settings>iCloud on his phone, tap Delete Account, choose Keep on My iPhone when prompted. Then sign back in with a separate ID and choose Merge to upload the data to the new account.
Once you are on separate accounts, you can sign into each account separately on icloud.com and delete the other person's data from each account.
To get the contacts on you iPad into your husband's iPhone and iCloud account, make sure his phone has Contacts turned to On in Settings>iCloud. Download the app My Contacts Backup on your iPad and use this to back up your contacts as an attachment to an email. Send this email to your husband. Have him open it on his phone and tap the attachment to import the contacts to his phone, and to his iCloud account.

Will outlook pc multiple categories be supported when syncing to apple contacts via iCloud ?

I ve got contacts with multiple categories in outlook 2007 on a pc, i would love them to be grouped in my contacts on apple imac, ipad, iphone...
I use icloud to do the syncing (i ve installed icloud control panel on the pc) and i also turned contacts to use vcard 2.1 (vcard 3.0 was messing up my contacts on the pc when there was multiple categories).
Would appreciate any help ???
Any chance an update of icloud control panel will be able to recognize outlook multiple categories ?

I too am having the same issue only I am in Regina, Canada. iCloud appears to think Regina, Canada is in the Central time zone which it is, but it does not use Daylight Savings time. My PC is Windows 7 and I am using Outlook 2010. I have iCloud on iPhone 5 and iPad 2. Terribly frustrating!

Calendar synchronization via icloud

I have iphone and ipad both running iOS7.1. when i got the ipad, i tried to set up the icloud so that contacts and calendars synchronised. my ipad does synchronise but iphone does not. My best version is on the iphone but the version on the cloud is that from the ipad. how do i change this and get them both to synch? my calendars synch fine

I saved all my contacts to iCloud, but then synced with a bluetooth device

Upgraded to a new iPhone 5 - got into the car and connected with the car kit via Bluetooth. That device replaced all my contacts with the ones it had stored (my daughter's!). So I then tried to recover my contacts via iCloud - which has now resulted in them deleting from iCloud as well.
My question is - is it possible to go back to a restore point in iCloud and sync to get all my contacts back? Any input welcome...

If you do not have access to the iTunes Library on your Old computer... or its Backup...

I would just follow the instructions from this article to give your unused 4s to your spouse. Since you have already started using your 5s, you will still be receiving iMessages on that phone and will have no need to receive them on a device that has been replaced. You can continue to use the current AppleID for iTunes, but your husband can create a new AppleID to use to create a new iCloud account that will be his own and not overlap with yours. If you do not have another email address to use for an AppleID, just get a free Gmail account and use that.
You can have as many AppleIDs as you want (or at least, as many as you have email addresses for). You can use a separate AppleID for the store, another for iCloud, and even another for iMessage if you wish.
You will want to keep the current one as the shared one for the store as all your previous purchases are permanently tied to it, and thus you need that AppleID to update or redownload your current purchased content.

Well, if both your iPad and iPhone have ios 7 you could AirDrop the contacts. This may seem time consuming if have a lot of contacts as you have to select all the ones you want to transfer. But it is useful if you want transfer only specific contacts and not the whole contact list. Oh, and another thing: your iPad has to be a 4th generation or higher and your iPhone has to be 5th generation or higher.

The iPhone has Activation Lock and will require you to have the previous owner's Apple ID and password or you'll need to get the previous owner to remove the device from his/her iCloud account:

If you can't reach the previous owner or he/she is unwilling to cooperate, then the device is unusable by you. Return the iPhone for a refund if you can.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
If you can't do this on a computer, which would be much easier using drag and drop, then you will need to share the contacts with yourself in order to move them to the iCloud account.
