Separate director commentary audio track?

Hi All,
I'm trying to get a second audio track on my How to Train Your Dragon DVD rip.  I'm using Handbrake and I'm ripping the two normal tracks it creates for the AppleTV profile: AAC (CoreAudio) and AC3 passthru.  I've also added the extra track for the commentary.
When I rip the movie I do get all the tracks.  If I import it into iTunes I can play it through there and select the commentary track.  However, once the file syncs to the AppleTV the audio track is visible (to switch to) but selecting it produces no audio at all.
Does anyone know what settings I can use to achieve what I'm trying to do?
Thanks in advance,
Dan.

  • DVD pro 2 - commentary audio / track

    Hi all.
I want to add a directors commentary audio track to my DVD 2 project.
I have read the book and bought the T-shirt, but can't see how to add a second audio track and give viewers the option to select audio track 2 as opposed to the one exported with the video.
    Any clues?
    Cheers.

Small project and may be all you need. Basically the menu says play the 160 APAC audio or the 256 APAC Audio (BTW both audio has no sound, sorry)
If you press 160 A1 is played, and if 256 A2 is played.
The track has two markers (1 and 2) and has two stories (160 and 256). For the rest open inspector to see what is going on. First press F3 key to set to advanced layout (in the event it does not open like that)
Then click on the 160Stream story, you will see that it has one chapter in it. When you play the story it wwill play until the next chapter (which is 2 and which is NOT in the story. Only include the markers for the parts you want to play)
Then look in the inspector for the story under the general Tab, you will see that Audio Stream 1 is checked and alll others are not for 160, and for 256 Audio Stream 2 is checked, and the others are not.
You can look in the Simulator and see the audio stream in SPRM 2, or (probably better) just bring two different audio files into the tracks so you can here the difference
Let me know if you want some more details or you need something more than this

  • Combining Separate Video and Audio tracks

Hi, what's the best way to combine a video and audio tracks into a single file? We will be given the video and audio from 13 volleyball games, and each game will be coming as a file.mpg (mpeg2) video and an mp3 file.
We're looking for a way to either manually bring it in, or bulk automate a way of combining the two tracks for each game to have one file that is in a format that doesn't need to be rendered in FCP.
    Thanks!

Seems like there should be some way to combine clips somewhere though? < </div>
Not if they're form separate devices or in different codecs. the MPEG2 files are the big problem, next time, have your people shoot conventional DV and use the audio interface to bring in a feed from your announce booth or radio station or whatever so it's in sync.

  • Detaching separate video and audio tracks

If I import a video file without audio, and then a music file, why does FCPx snap them together in a way that, if I want to move the first 20 seconds of the clip further away, when I move it forward, it takes the audio track with it?, how can I detach it?

As you can see in the image attached, theese green lines seem to keep united both tracks (or track sectors)

  • Separate Video and Audio tracks

After I've opened a new project and dragged the clips into the timeline, the Audio and Video tracks suddenly are separated. Their pôsition is changed an the video track is on track 1 while the audio is to find on track 6. (see image attached) There is no way to drag them together, also by first having them disconnected. Does anybody know how to bring them both together on their track 1 as it use to be and as illustrated on the second attached image ?

    Thanks Bill,
How do I get acces to the main forum ?
But isn't it so that if you import clips containing 5.1 surround, automatic a 5.1 channel audiotrack is added to the project.
When I do this, the audio channel is created on track 6, although I have the preset of the standard timeline by starting a new project put on 3 audio and 3 video tracks.
    Tracks 4 and 5 don't exist.
When I load an old project with the normal timeline, i still can add clips by the usual way. Everything works normal.
When I try to drag the audio track to the track Audio as it use to be thits place, both tracks jumps two tracks higher.
I compaired the old and the new project and find no difference in the presettings.
I am desperate because it's useless to start new projects with this failure.
Many thanks in advance to help me anyway.

  • How do I separate two linked audio tracks?

I film with two tracks of audio, one from a shotgun mic, one from camera mic. When I import vision Final Cut Express counts it as two audio tracks, but they are linked (Stereo a1 and a2) and cannot be edited separately. I really, really need to edit them separately just to fade down the camera sound during grabs, a pretty simple requirement I would have thought. I've just about read the entire 1000 page manual without luck, Can anyone help? How do I edit these audio tracks separately?
    Scott

Select the clip in the Timeline and hit Option l (lowercase L).

  • Is there a way to create a commentary audio track with iDVD?

    Thanks
    Eric

No not with iDVD.....but here are a few ideas:
iMovie can add a voice-over. So build a slideshow in iPhoto, import into iMovie and talk away, even add music too.
Use garageband to record a voiceover. Then export back to iTunes, and then you can use it with iDVD. You can import the music from iTunes and add voice to that too. Only problem this way is that it might be hard to do the timing (see the sldieshow while you talk.....)

  • Help with DVD Studio Pro Audio Track/Commentary Track

    Hi Everyone -
I am authoring my first DVD for a film.  I believe I have everything under control - menus, chapter selections, bonus features - except for the director's commentary.
I have created 2 main menus - one with a button to turn commentary on, another menu with a button to turn commentary off.
    They work fine.
But when I simulate the DVD, select commentary ON, play movie (commentary track plays) ... Then click the MENU button, it returns to the main menu with the button to turn commentary ON, but the commentary audio track (audio track 2) is still activated at this point.
Is it possible to tell it to return to audio track 1 if the menu button is pressed, or tell it to go to "main menu 2" if the menu button is pressed?
I hope my question is clear.
    Thank you.
    Joe G.

Each track and story has its own end jump and its own Remote Control selection. If I understand your problem correctly, changing the Remote Control>Menu (in the Inspector window) from Same as Disk to the appropriate Menu should fix the problem.
If not, a more complete explanation would help.

  • Four or more audio tracks

Does Quick Time support more than 2 tracks of audio? I want to create split track masters of videos I make with separate audio on their own tracks. Can this be done either with FCP or Avid?

Yes, QT can support multiple audio tracks, as long as you use "Save" or "Save As" to save the result. If they start at the same point on the timeline they will all play when you play the clip. Once you choose to export to some other format they will all be collapsed to a single audio track within which they all play at once.
I can't speak for FCP or Avid but this works with QT Player Pro. To add additional audio tracks to an existing QT document you must first copy the entire audio track to the clip board, then switch to the target document and use Add. A new track will be added which starts at the point on the timeline where you have positioned the play head. Each time you do this a new track is added. In my test document I only went up to 4 tracks (plus a single video track) but I am sure you could add even more if desired.
One final point. QT Player allows you to separately enable or disable separate video and audio tracks by use of the Enable Tracks item in the Edit menu.

  • All additional audio tracks in synchronized or compound clips are merged into the mono-mix.

    Hi all.
I have a video with a stereo track and six separate audio tracks from set. I synced them. If you open the synchronized clip in a separate timeline, all audio tracks are on place and have their names. But if I append it to the storyline and expand audio components, there are only two audio tracks: monomix from the original video with its name and one stereo track named "a1", which is a mix of all additional audio tracks. The same thing happens if I make a compound clip, with a small difference. It forced me to give up the work I wanted to do.

    Any thoughts?

Multicam works, but it is not very convenient. I can not use Sync-N-Link as I had planned, I get problems with export AAF and DaVinci do not like multicam in XML.
Channel configuration mirrors two tracks in the storyline, as you can see in the screenshots.

  • How do I split Left & Right audio tracks?

I recorded a presentation that only came out of one speaker (left)
On my timeline, I'd like to delete the a2 portion, and copy the a1 portion into that.... so it comes out of both sides.
I can't figure out how to delete one side without deleting both.
They stay highlighted together when I click on them
    Thank you!!

    Strange thing, Tom!
When I said Shift L would separate the 2 audio tracks, it did .............. on FCE 1.0.1, which I happened to have open.
But of course it doesn't on FCE 4.
Am I correct in noting this and has the functionality changed between FCE 1.0.1 and later versions ?

  • Commentary, Audio & Burning Issues with DVD-9

Hi. I have a collection of problems here that sprouted up when building and formatting a dual-layer disc. I have a feature film with two commentaries on top of the normal audio track. If you hit play on the main menu, I specified A1 (which is the normal track) and it goes to two .jpegs (FBI Warning & Interviews/Commentaries Disclaimer) and then plays the movie.
If you go to the Special Features menu, you can hit two play buttons with each commentary specified to them (A2 & A3) the two .jpegs appear and then the movie plays.
This works fine in the simulator but when I build the disc and play the VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS folder in Apple's DVD Player, this doesn't work. A1 is what is heard (I have to manually select the commentary audio tracks in DVD Player). I tried bypassing the .jpegs and have the commentary buttons go straight to the movie and this works when I build and play in DVD Player. I wouldn't prefer to do it that way. So if there's a solution it would be appreciated.
My second issue is more related to audio encoding. But I'm not sure if this is a Compressor issue or DVD SP4 issue. I encode the audio from .AIFFs or audio from .MOVs into Dolby .AC3 files. The settings in Compressor is:
    http://www.underlibertymovie.com/Compressor_Settings.png
The audio sounds fine in the simulator, however when I build the disc and open in DVD Player, the audio levels are all over the map. Whenever something is bassy (low frequency) happens, the audio levels are dropped and then gradually raises to normal level. So whenever the bass drum hits in the soundtrack or explosions, this sounds really strange. I'm sorry if this is solely a Compressor issue but I thought I'd give it a shot.
And thirdly, this is a dual layer DVD-9 at 6.6 GBs of data. I've set a valid layer break point as far as I know and have tried to burn several times. First I had Memorex DVD+R DL media and it would write the lead-in, start the first bit of the image, then abort and say "The device reported an error: Unknown device" and then there was an error code that I can't recall (something like 00x 04x)
After finding out that Memorex is not a reputable brand, I had my partner drive quite a ways to find DVD+R DL Verbatim discs (which is what people were consistently recommending) and the same problem occurred. I also noticed afterward that both brands are ReWritable discs. The Memorex discs didn't specify this but my Mac said it was. I can burn another DVD and get the exact error message if that helps.
Sorry for such a long post, but I'm at a loss with these issues. Thanks.

    Hi Logimec,
If your playback requirements are as simple as you say, here is an option
that will work with no scripts.
Have your FBI and commentaries as one short vid track and create 3 stories
name the 1st "... A1", the next story as "...A2" then another for A3.
in the story inspector, general tab, DISABLE all other audio options except
the one which coresponds with the desired audio content, you must do this
even if they have no audio to go with them.
then create 3 stories for your feature track named "...A1,2,3 (same as earlier)
and again, enable ONLY the audio track you wish presented.
select the buttons, one at a time for each option and look to the "Button inspector, advanced tab, streams option"
and select the audio stream you wish presented.
Needless to say you must also RE-target your buttons to the desired story
line and not the main tracks.
you must be sure that the end jump from the warning to the feature goes to
    the coresponding story/audio option, A1 to A1, A2 to A2, etc.
I also recommend you look in the help manual under "Setting the dual layer direction" "OTP & ATP" it may help you improve the delay at your "Break Point"
    Hope this helps,

  • Does anyone know how to separate a movie track from an audio track on the new Mavericks Garage band. It used to be very easy on the iLife 11 version. If anyone could respond ASAP I'd be grateful. I need to make an audio file from a video.

I urgently need to make some audio tracks from videos using the new 2013 GarageBand. In iLife11 Garageband, this was very easy. However, I cannot see how to do it in the new one. The alternative might be to revert to the iLife11 version, so does anyone know how to do this. It's extremely urgent since I need to produce these for a court custody hearing which will take place at 0800 GMT UK time on 31st October 2013. Please help.
    Thank you.

When you drag a movie from the Media Browser to the Time lIne in GarageBand, you will see a pop-up "Extracting Audio".
The Movie and the audio file will appear in separate tracks. You can copy the audio region from the sound track to a different track to keep it safe and then hide the Movie track.

  • How do you export separate audio tracks for Pro Tools?

I need to give separate audio tracks to my sound mixer but am confused on how to do so in FCP X.
    So far I've:
Set the dialogue roles and stems for each character
Then I went into Master File>Settings
    Selected:
    "Format: Audio Only"
    "Audio File Format: Wav File"
"Roles as: Audio only as separate files"
    "Dialogue"
    Sara
    "Stereo"
And when I export and listen back to the wav file, there is either no audio or I hear select dialogue.
The only thing I can think of that I am doing wrong, is that each characters dialogue is not on the same track like the picture below. The tracks highlighted is of one character's dialogue that I am trying to export onto one linear track to export into Pro Tools.
Can tracks be assigned in FCP X? Or is there a crucial step that I am forgetting tthat explains why the audio for each character is not being exported.
    Thanks!

If you're dumping audio for ProTools, you should be able to export XML for use in PT. Haven't done it myself, but the option's been there for a while now. You should be able to find instructions easily.
If you want to stick with making Roles work, I suggest making sure the roles are assigned properly to each clip. Kind of a super pain in the neck, to go one by one, but ... that's the way. There are key commands for the three default roles, but if you've created custom ones then it's more time consuming. Is that 'Sara' one a custom Role that you've created?
My only thought is you have compound audio clips there. Maybe go in and set the roles on the individual files inside the compound clips. Dunno...
The visual organization shouldn't matter (one track above another). That's the X way.
((In your picture, you say you have some files selected. When I select, I get a yellow border; yours are light green and dark green. What is that?))

  • No visual of separate audio tracks

In the beginning, iMovie opens. I see picture and hear audio from the imported footage.
The audio exists in the video track. Then, I drag audio from GarageBand to the separate audio tracks. But wait!
In timeline view I don't see the visible presentation of the audio tracks. It is blank.
However, I can hear the audio that I have just dragged to the invisible audio tracks. I 'undo' the audio drag, and there is no audio to be heard on the separate tracks (so, I know I have some control over the audio).
But, there are no distinguishable tracks.
    The area is blank.
The audio tracks are audible, and not visible.
It's as if the programmer forgot to put in the thing that tells the machine to show the tracks.
    What's up doc?
P.S. Maybe we should get things right before we move onto other things.

    Hi Wayne:
Try deleting the imovie preference file. Locate a file named com.apple.imovie.plist and get rid of it. Then empty the trash, run a permissions repair with disk utility and restart. That should do it. The files you need to delete are found in:
    /Users/YourName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.imovie.plist
Then try this list (compliments of P.T.Patrick):
*Run MacJanitor (free download) to do all the Unix Cron Maintenance scripts.
*Run Disk Utility (Applications -> Utilities) and repair disk permissions on your start up drive (typically your internal drive). Also verify any other drives mounted on the system.
*Run Preferential Treatment (free download) to check for corrupt/damaged application and system preference files.
*Run Cache Out X (free download) to clear all system and application caches.
    *Reboot your Mac.
