Separate events by date in iPhoto?

I have one event in iPhoto that covers a few days. Is there any way to "separate" the days in the same event so I know which picture was on what day? I would like to not have to click "show photo info" each time and the "split" feature only seems to split selected photos into two events.

Sure there is
First i probably makes sense to post iPhoto questions in the iPhoto forum in the future - http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=227 - that is where the real iPhoto gurus hang out
If you can tell where you want the splits from the photo context open the event and starting from the bottom scan up until you find the first photo in that day - select it and click split in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen and the selected photo and all below it (all older ones) will be split into a new event- continue on up doing this until you have made all of the splits you need
If you are not able to tell where you want to split from the context be sure the info window at the bottom of the left hand sidebar is displayed - if it is not click on the blue "i" to show it - then you can easily see the date info for a photo when you select it and follow the above instructions
For the future check your preferences - iPhoto menu ==> preferences ==> events and be sure that the split items into event selections are the way you want them including items imported form finder

  • See events by date

Would like to display recent 450 image shoot in events by date, but don't know how to do that. Now that I've updated Iphoto, can't even find the date/time of the individual pictures. Have camera (Canon G11) set to sort by date, but not to display date on actual images.

What I really meant and want is to have them grouped in events by date.
I have no idea what you want - there is not  (and never has been) a way to group events - when you import from your camera the event structure is determined by your settings in the iPhoto preferences - unless you have unchecked the preference to split photos imported from the finder into events imports from disk will be treated the same
The camera was set to make "folders" by date, and I had hoped/expected them to group in separate events by date.
iPhoto does not do anything with those folders - if you were to manually drag the folders to iPhoto (and have the option to split items imported via the finder off) then iPhoto will make a event of each folder
    b) I had stumbled on the info once before and forgotten it, often is out of site in window and must remember to look; kept trying to get it by clicking on the indicator on the image, as in previous Iphoto iteration. "Change"=improvement?
remembering that this strictlhy a user to user forum- is there a question there?

Posted this before I realised there is an update for the iPhoto app 9.1.3 which sorts the problem.

  • IPhoto browser events by date

How do I set the Aperture iPhoto browser to sort events by date?
I'm new to Aperture 3 trial. I have a large iPhoto library from which I want to import an event. I keep the iPhoto events ordered by date. The Aperture iPhoto browser orders events by name. Over the years my naming conventions have changed. My earlier events had names 2001-11-15-name. Since iPhoto started to sort events by date, names started to reflect the contents rather the dates. Still there are many, many events and sorting them by name is not helpful to me at all. It could just as well be random.

Sorting can be done by: Date, Rating, Label, Version Name, Keyword, File size, Pixel Size, Manual, and in Ascending or Descending order. You will see a small label at the top of the Browser which in your case is possibly says Version Name. Click on the R/H side of the label box to show all options. Allan

  • Iphoto splitting photos into separate events

IPhoto used to have a selection to turn off autosplitting photos into events when importing.  That option is gone.  The best I can find not is to autosplit items into one event per week.  Is there a way to do this (i.e. through the terminal) or is there a third-party option?
    thanks!

After looking around on the discussions I guess you're right about it not being an option, but I can tell you that I routinely import photos from our camera spanning multiple days (weeks even) without iPhoto autosplitting them into separate events.  The autosplitting just cropped up today, and whether the older behavior was due to a corrupted preferences file or some other glitch, I want it back.  I appreciate your orgainizational advice, but I simply do not care to work that way - I much preferred the old iPhoto 'camera roll' analogy and hate when iPhoto second-guesses me about how to organize my photos.  Is there a way to force iPhoto to stop autosplitting?
    Thanks!

  • IPhoto 09 Problem with Events and Dates

In iPhoto 08, when adding pics and videos to an event (irrespective of date) they were all grouped together in a folder named by the Event.
Now in iPhoto 09 when I add pics and videos they do not go into the event folder but a new folder named with a the date. In iPhoto everything is grouped together correctly but the underlying file structure is different.
This is especially troublesome because when iMovie reads videos from the iPhoto library it labels the videos with the Date instead of the Event. I recently converted a bunch of my old videos (which now have the same creation date) and they are all mixed up now even though the are appropriately grouped in events in iPhoto.
Does anybody know a workaround for this?

Yes, I can access the movies in iMovie but they all are grouped by the same date. My old videos are grouped by the event name from iPhoto. It seems like iMovie 09 is reading from the iPhoto 09 library file structure which in the past had folders for each event but now only adds folders with the date name.

  • How do i change date in iphoto on an event?

how do i change date in iphoto on an event?

Change the dates on the photos. Then, to force iPhoto to revise the ctalogue, flag the photos and go: Events: New Event from Flagged Photos.

  • Photos. They are on my macBook, backed up on time machine. Copied them (hours and hours) to external hard drive. They are now in alphabetical order (19,000  of them) NOT IN THEIR EVENTS or date order-and have been taken with different cameras- help!!!!!!

    Photos.
They are on my macBook, backed up on time machine. There are 19,000+ of them, some rescued from a pc crash- which I used the nifty iPhoto to put back into date order.
I want to take them all off my laptop, now............as I need to use it for WORK!!
Copied them (hours and hours) to another external hard drive.
They are now in alphabetical order (all 19,000+ of them) NOT IN THEIR EVENTS or date order. (-They have also been taken with different cameras over the years and some of the generic camera numbering remains.)
I have tried to copy them (only a few as an experiment)  one event at a time, but that again "opens up" the Event "folder" and tips them out as individuals and therefore just lists image letters and numbers alphabetically.
    How can I copy
the whole library still in  "Events" to an external hard drive?
the folders/albums I have already made on to this hard drive?
and how can I add to this back up monthly, again keeping events and folders separate and updated?
Mac is so user friendly - there must be a way.........
    Thanks

UPDATE : I have re-installed from disk, various apps that were no longer functioning such as iLife, iWork etc. So, I now can access my photos again.
Also, I had to re-install all the software for my printer ( Stylus Pro 4880 ) and reset it so the printer is working again.
Photoshop CS4 won't open. I think I will have to get in touch with Adobe as basically, I guess they have a built-in "blocker" which prevents me from opening the app as the license is for only 1 user and having re-installed the OS, there are now, in effect, 2 users ( Me and Me 1, I think ).
So, having added on a new external HD, Time Machine has made a copy of most of the files, folders, apps etc onto the external HD. The internal HD is still nearly full ( 220 GBs out of 232 GBs ).
I am guessing the way to go now in order to free up space on the internal HD is to delete/trash older photos from my iPhoto library and hope that if needed, I will be able to access them on the external HD.
Am I correct ? Please advise before I do something I will regret.
    Thanks, Sean.

  • Events - Incorrect Dates after split

    Hi All
Wondering if you are having the same issues as I am, or can help....
I have a coupe of cases where I have split an event which took place over a couple of days (I imported the pictures on a specific day, but iPhoto did not create separate events for each days shooting).
Now that I have separate events, with photos spanning one day in each event, the displayed date as seen in the Events screen when you skim, is incorrect.
The displayed date will show something like 24 Dec 2006 - 12 March 2007, but the pictures in the event were only taken on the 24th December... Hope the above makes sense?
Does anyone know how to correct this? Selecting the 'change date & time' option (with events selected) only changes the date/time of all the pictures within the event but not the date of the event itself.
    Thanks and Regards
    Scott

Step one is to correct the date on the Photos as you did (You could have used the adjust date & time eature too)
Then open the event an dselect one photo and create a new event. This new event will have the correct date. Then drag the remaining photos (with correct dates) to the new event and you will ahve an event with the correct dates
I'm hoping that APple addresses this in the future but for now this seems to be the only way to get the event's attention to update the date range

  • Import full events into a new iPhoto library

I want to divide my iPhoto library into two: one personal, one work.  In creating the new iPhoto library, I exported the events I wanted and imported them into the new library.  Much to my surprise, they were all imported into one event.  I did split the events by the dates but would prefer not to go through and have to reorganize and rename each event.  I have 4,000+ photos here so I want to make this easy.
Is it possible to import multiple, separate events, with their current names into my new iPhoto library?

    Use iPhoto Library Manager

  • Split an event into mini-events by date?

I recently went on a trip to Mexico with a large group, and afterwards I received a DVD with all of the pictures from the trip. Unfortunately the pictures were not split up by date. I would like to do this by the day the pictures were taken. Is there any way iPhoto can split all of the pictures into separate events by the imbedded data in the pictures?

Select the event and go to the event menu ==> autosplit event
or open the event and scan up from the bottom until you find a spot where you want to split - select the photo that you want to end the new event and click on the split button - continue up and splitting until you have it like you want
in the future you can use the iPhoto preferences to do this on import (check the "split items imported from the finder into events" option

  • Is there a way to create new events on the new iPhoto app?

Is there a way to create new events on the new iPhoto app?  I seem to only be able to create albums.  I would really like the app to allow me to do all the same things that I was able to do on my Mac.  I would create events and then sync to all devices.  Can someone please instruct me on how to create new events from the photos imported from the photo stream.
    Thanks for all the help!

The iPhoto for iOS seems to be aimed at working on photos then sharing them to social media sites or to iCloud for sharing there. iPhoto for iOS does not perform many of the organizing tasks that iPhoto on your Mac does. Many people expected that there would be more capabilities in iPhoto for iOS that would allow it to work more closely with iPhoto on your computer but this is not the case. They are separate apps.

  • How do I split a single event with many clips into multiples events, one event per date?

I archived the video from my AVCHD camera into a Final Cut video archive. Later I imported this into iMovie. All the clips from this archive (spanning several months) are dumped into a single event. If I recall, older versions of iMovie would import video into separate events for each day. Then I would go through and give each event a meaningful name (e.g., "Mary's Birthday").
This is what I would like. Is there a way to split this very long event into multiple events, one for each day that is present in the event?

Not automatically but with imovie 10 you can create new events with any name you like then move clips into them from other events  (Just like FCP 10.1).   See:
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.0/#mov1d890f00b
You can also choose to display clips in an event grouped by date.

  • How do I change a photo's date in iPhoto '11 9.2.3?!?

How do I change a photo's date in iPhoto '11 9.2.3?!?  I've been able to do it before through the "info" link, but don't have that option in this latest version...?  It messes up my chronological event files when people have their camera date set wrong and I can't fix it!  Thanks for any ideas you can provide.

you can make a smart album for the camera so you can easily select the photos that you need to correct time/date
