Separate iPod and Music Library

I would be grateful if someone could advise me on the following:
1. I have my music library on iTunes and I want to add further CDs but to a separate library, so the two do not merge. How do I do this?
2. I wish to use this separate library to populate a different iPod to the one I normally use. Can I do this and if so how?
3. I want to digitise casettes and vinyl records and add these to the separate music library for later use on the new iPod. What software do I need? How do I attach the record player/casette player to my iMac and how do I get the files into iTunes?
I am grateful for any help and advice. Thanks in advance.

First: These are non-expert suggestions to trigger your thinking and possible steps to try.
Regarding #1:
a. Select not to share your account's music files.
b. Create a new user account which, I believe, starts a new music file and an empty iTunes library. Also make this account's music "non-sharing". Add music to the new account iTunes library.
Regarding #2: If suggestions in #1 work then maybe a second iPod would work as well, using the "new account".
Regarding #3: I've used an old iMac running Roxio's Toast with Spin Doctor.
Use a belt driven, not direct drive, turntable, a cheap pre-amp to increase turntable's output, an iMic USB sound connector rather than the mike jack for sound imput, good cables and LOT'S of time.
Unlike inputing CD's, vinyl & tapes require 40 minutes of recording time for 40 minutes of playing time. That does NOT include set-up, cleaning the vinyl, etc., nor cleaning the "noise, pops, sound levels, etc" for each track.
Research MacWorld, MacAddict, MacHome Journal archives for various articles they've published on this subject.
I just purchased a book: "MacToys-12 Cool Projects for Home, Office and Entertainment" by John Rizzo & Scott Knaster, Wiley Publishing
WWW.wiley.com/compbooks/extremetech
Their section on putting LPs onto an iPod might be what you want.
Good luck AND BACKUP each raw file before you start cleaning it up. Inputing your vinyl takes too long to risk not doing that FIRST, before doing anything else.

  • 7.0.2 crashes when click between iPod and music library

I just upgraded to 7.0.2. iTunes recognizes my iPod and will even play the music, but if I click on the music library after having clicked on anything in my connected iPod, iTunes quits without even an error message. I just wiped my 1.6 Ghz PowerPC G5 and reinstalled 10.4, then upgraded to iTunes 7.0.2. I have a 5G iPod video. 7.0.1 works just fine with my iPod on my iBook.
    Help!
    Thanks.

I think it's fixed. I followed the instructions on this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=717600&tstart=0
and reinstalled 7.0. First I put iTunesX.pkg and iTunes 7.0.2 in the trash, then I ran the installer. iTunes still behaved badly until I emptied the trash. Now iTunes and my iPod play nicely together unless I click on the iPod while it's still loading, in which case iTunes crashes again.

I have iTunes on my iPad. I have a new iPod nano. How do I connect iPod to iPad to download iTunes and music library?

    Hi Divine Inspiration,
You wouldn't connect the iPod to the iPad for data transfers. Music is stored and shared either through a computer or iCloud.

  • IPod as backup for my photo and music library

May I use iPod as backup device for my photo and music library in case of my iMac failure? Is this tested and recommended solution?
    Thanks, Jan

This is an extremely risky option because when (and not if) there comes a time to restore your iPod, which is a very common fix for iPod problems, then all the music/photos would be erased. If you no longer have them in iTunes (or any other back up), then all that music and other data would be lost.
What if the iPod were lost/stolen/needed repair? Again, the music would lost. I strongly recommend a different form of back up, and if computer hard drive space is in short supply, you should seriously consider an external hard drive. They are not expensive, and the cost is well worth it when compared to the loss of all your precious music and photos.
At the very least back up your music/photos to either cd or dvd before deleting them, particularly any purchased music/videos, as this would have to be bought again if it were lost. See this.

  • Album and Music library are blank

Their are songs and pictures in the phone. They can be accessed via the file manager. The album and Music library show that there is no content. Help.

I did think of that, and I will admit that I'm an iPod newbie (it arrived yesterday). I did read iPod 101 yesterday, tho' and I seem to remember that iTunes updates the iPod, but not vice versa. Until I know for sure, I am reluctant to connect the iPod, because I don't want to risk losing the info that's there.
Do you know for sure this would work?

When you say a new user ID, are you referring to your Apple ID that you use to make purchases in the iTunes Store, etc? Or are you talking about a new user account on the same Mac?

  • Moving iTunes and music library from one computer to another

I need to move my iTunes and music library with purchased music, playlists, ratings, and legally downloaded music to another computer. How do I do that?

Try posting in the iTunes for Windows area. You'll be more likely to get a quick and accurate answer there than you will here in the iTunes for Macintosh forum. Good luck.

  • Transfering iTunes and music library to another computer

    Hello,
I just got a new computer and I want to transfer my iTunes and music library to it. I would normally just transfer the files to the new computer, install iTunes, and rebuild my library, but there are two things: 1) I don't want to lose my playlists and 2) I have purchased music from the iTunes Music Store and I'm not sure it will play if I do it like that.
I have a feeling it has to do with deauthorizing the old computer.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance.

Welcome, Fred, to the Apple Discussions!
Here's a post on transferring your Music Library from one computer to another:
Hudgie, "Migrating iTunes for Windows to a new PC", 04:11pm Jun 9, 2005 CDT
You will definitely have to authorize your new computer. And if you won't be using the old one to play purchased songs any more, you should de-authorize it. Have a look at:

  • IPod, ITunes and Music Library

I am sure this question has been asked and answered a thousand times but I can't find the question or the answer here so here goes my shot:
For reasons I won't bore you with I had to create a new user account on my wife's machine. I did it by just using her first name instead of her first and last names. How do I deauthorize her iPod for the old user account and set it up for the new user account without losing any of the music that is in her old ITunes music library and on her iPod?

Use the instructions in this article to share the iTunes library between the accounts, or here to transfer music from multiple iTunes libraries to an iPod other than the iPod shuffle.

  • Separate Podcasts and Music

    Hello all,
I getting tired of keeping up with the fifteen to thirty minute podcasts, which I'm having a little difficult and pretty tiring. I want to sync my podcast to my iPod, but I'm not doing that right now because my music and my podcasts are mixed up into one playlist, and I want to separate podcasts and my music in my iPod. Is there any way of doing this?
    Regards,
    The Wampus Cat

    Hi.
I want the same thing! It is a pain in the butt when I transfer to my iPod because when I shuffle my songs now it picks up the Poscasts. And the Names of the Podcast guys are now in the Artists section. Pain in the butt!
It did it with the 5 upgrade. With 4.9 Podcasts were confined to the Podcast section in your itunes and to The Podcast section of your iPod.
Its the new search feature...it made Podcast a Genre in Itunes and now they are all mixed together! I tryed deleting one of my Podcast links in the Libray window, hoping it wouldn't delete it from the Podcast Section, (much like a Playlist) but alas it deletes from both sections. They are connected (I did make sure not to delete the podcast file only the Library link.)
I havn't figured a work around yet. (Except maybe 5.1)
APPLE! Make a pref to disable it in the Library window! I see why it was done, but it is better having them seperate.

  • How do you sync iPod Touch music library to iTunes Match for transferring to/using on main computer iTunes?

Hello, and thank you for any help anyone can offer. I subscribed to iTunes Match to transfer my music that's been stuck on my iPod Touch (iOS 5.1.1) to my new computer.
First, some background to explain my problem. On an old laptop, I had 15,000+ songs (mostly video game music downloaded online) that I synced to my iPod Touch. The computer containing that music started having trouble and likely died. I was unable to afford having it looked at, but all the music from it has remained on my iPod Touch.
Recently, instead of trying to have the old computer fixed, I bought a new laptop. I was looking for a solution to get the music from my iPod Touch onto my new computer, since I know syncing with it would cost me every song I have on the iPod Touch that I didn't download on iTunes Store. I thought iTunes Match was the solution, that it would bring the music on my iPod Touch to the iCloud, and I'd at last be able to download my huge library onto the new computer from there.
Now, the problem: I had to purchase the iTunes Match service on my laptop iTunes. It put all my purchased music from the laptop on iTunes Match. Well, when I go to iPod Touch and try to turn on iTunes Match, it says: "iTunes Match will replace the music library on this device." I assume if I do that, it'll wipe out my 15,000+ iPod Touch songs from my old laptop and replace them with the 1200 or so that I've purchased from the iTunes Store (which I already have on my iPod)!!! That is the last thing I want to do! Is there a way of getting my iPod Touch library to the cloud so I can access it on iTunes, or have I wasted $25 on iTunes Match? If I wanted to replace the 15,000 songs on my iPod with the little library of purchased music on my new computer, I would just plug my iPod into it and sync! Furthermore, my purchases were already available on the iCloud when I authorized this new computer, without spending a dime. I've put a lot of time into my library, and making playlists as well. Any help getting my iPod music on iTunes Match is greatly appreciated! Sorry if I've overlooked something obvious, this is my first experience with cloud-based services.

iTunes Match does not work this way. The service does not scan the music on an iOS device, only an iTunes library. For your music to be available in the cloud it must first be in an iTunes library. See the following articles:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
An iOS device or iPod is not a storage device or backup of your music library. It is your responsibliity to maintain a backup of your music and other personal data.

  • IPod's music library only shows items purchased from iTunes store?

I'm really frustrated because I've only had this iPod since Christmas and it's already giving me grief.
My iPod is synced with 918 songs:
However, my music library on the device itself only displays 65, as seen here:
These songs are ones I've purchased from the iTunes store. All other songs on the device have to be manually searched for from the Home screen, and if you ask me this is kind of ridiculous. It'd be nice if, y'know, I could use my iPod to actually listen to my songs with ease, as is its purpose in the first place??
I've resynched numerous times and reset it.
What the heck am I doing wrong?
    Cheers in advance.

By the way... ALL music files back to 2004 still play fine on iTunes on the PC...

  • What's wrong with my ipod 5 music library?

I have an iPod 5, running on iOS7 and my music library app is totally  mess up. album artwork is all messed up. For example say I'm in the Demi  Lovato file, the artwork for one album is Justin Bieber, the other  Maroon 5. Another problem is that when I'm on the "artists" tab,  normally its in alphabetical order. Now, it has all the labels (you know  artist starting with a, b, c ,d ect) and artists that start with F or G  are in under the D section. Another problem is that when I'm in the  artists tab, for example I have Adam Lambert as an artist, but his file  doesn't show up in the artists tab under the A section. BUT, when I got  to the songs tab, his songs are there. I already restarted my iPod, and  tried re-syncing it, but that didn't help. Any idea on what I should do?

Its not that the art work isnt showing or syncing, it's showing up wrong. like the artwork doesnt match the artist, album or song. Also the artists are out of odered, not in the right place. here are some picture examples:
out of order/incorrect order, letters not matching up in categories:
    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BZ2v59LIUAAwrm9.jpg
    incorrect artwork/artwork misplaced:
    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BZ2yAjsIcAAmcOU.jpg
another example, the artwork isnt the actually artwork for this song or artist. This is a Justin Bieber song and has an Emily Osment artwork.

Also: These problems started after I syncede my iPod with the new itunes update

  • Reset the iPod and music doesn't show up... but the files are still there..

I had to reset my nano (just a soft reboot). Supposedly when you do this, you do not lose your files. Wrong! Well... not completely. The files are still there if I look under the iPod in "My Computer" but, tho iTunes recognizes the iPod, there is no music contained in it through iTunes or just using the iPod itself.
Please help!! I don't know if I changed some sort of setting or if I'm screwed here. I still have the files but I was kinda hoping not to lose my playcounts/ratings/etc.

    Is this how you reset?
    Resetting iPod
If so, you should not have lost music. Also, why did you reset the iPod?
Anyhow, is there still music on your computer in iTunes?
If the music is in your iTunes library, restore your iPod...
    Restore the iPod
    Then reload everything.
If the music is not on your computer, use this to get the music off of the iPod and back onto the computer. Then restore the iPod and reload everything (once you are sure that your music is on your computer)...

  • Updated to itunes 7 and music library appears empty

Upgraded from itunes 6 to 7. Open itunes and nothing displays from the Music Library. I changed the Prefs/Advanced/General itunes music folder to point to where my music folder is but it still doesn't display anything in that folder. When I used itunes 6 I created a music folder in My Document/My iTunes/My Music. All my music is still there but itunes 7 won't display it. How do I fix this?

That little lock usually indicates that the iPod is set to autosync. In order to play iPod content through iTunes, you have to be on manual sync.
