Separate itune libraries on 1 mac computer

I am wanting 2 separate itunes libraries on my computer or something similar, where files are separate and using my music group won't interfere with using my wife's.  Can someone help?
I have tried numerous suggestions that I "googled" but none seemed to be any help whatsoever.

Quit itunes, and then reopen while holding down option. it will promp you to quit, choose a library, or create a new library. Click create a new library, and name it something you can find easily later. I reccomend that you save it in /home folder/music. Import media you want to, and you are good to go. When you want to change libraries, launch itunes holding option, and click choose library. Choose the library you want to open. You can also just create a new user account.

  • Sharing music between two itunes libraries on same mac computer

Hi. We have one computer with two Itunes Libraries (when we click on Itunes we use the Option Key so that we can choose the appropriate Library).
What is the best way to move songs between the two Libraries. I tried burning a cd from one library and then uploading to the next - but that didn't work and took forever.
    thanks
Ps: To give you idea of which Itunes I have - here is my most recent update:

  • 3 user accounts on Mac with separate iTunes libraries

I have 3 user accounts on a Mac with separate iTunes libraries.  Home sharing is turned on for all 3 and all use the same home sharing login Apple ID).  On both Apple TV 2's all 3 libraries appear under "computers", however, only one is accesible (always the account that has been first opened on the computer) with the others saying "Could not connect to "xx Library".  When I have one home sharing turned on for this computer it is always accesible from the Apple TV and I can open up iTunes with the same home sharing ID from another Mac in the home and it will appear on the Apple TV with no problem.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for your response ckuan.  These 3 libraries are using separate user accounts on the computer and when all 3 accounts have itunes open at the same time, the iPads have no problem seeing all 3 itunes libraries through home sharing, and for a brief moment yesterday, I was able to get one of the Apple TV's to connect to all 3, however that did not last long before only one was available and the other two eded up having the "could not connect error".  Do you have any other ideas?  I have already submitted this problem to Apple as I am sure that before the update (whether it was the Apple TV update or the iTunes update) I had no problem doing this.

  • I have two separate iTunes libraries on two separate Computers. I need to consolidate them so I can play them on a brand new computer. How do I do this so I can play them off an External Hard Drive on my brand new computer?

Why, if it told you you have insufficient space on your computer, would it suggest making more space available on your phone?
At a guess, you have insufficient space on your phone. Installing software will typically require more space than the final size of the software, perhaps even twice or three times as much, for the installation process. You can easily dump some videos or music temporarily, and then synch them back in afterwards.

Load the library which doesn't contain the songs and drag them into the open iTunes application window. If you need to move them between different computer user accounts, put them into /Users/Shared/.

Hi b noir, I also have two users on one pc with two different iTunes libraries.  But I also want to put them onto an external hard drive so that I can free up some memory on the pc.  So I figure I need to consolidate the two users iTunes libraries first before moving to hard drive?  But not quite sure how to do that on the iTunes 11?  Thanking you in advance!!

Yes. Launch iTunes with the Shift key held down as needed, or use separate Windows user accounts on the computer.

Copy the content from one computer to another and import the media into iTunes.
Any playlists, playcounts, etc on the computer the content is being moved from will be lost.

  • I created two iTunes libraries on my mac mini and would like to merge them into one library. What is the easiest way to do this?

I created two iTunes libraries on my mac mini back in the day. I would like to consolidate them into one iTunes library. What is the easiest method to do this? I do use i-Match to access all my music from  iCloud, if that makes any difference.  Thanks. Mark

Thanks for the reply. When I created the 2 libraries years ago I would hold down the options key and had 2 library names to choose from. Now it just shows a lot of files when I do that, With over 7,000 songs I think I will just look for the few songs from the original library I used to use that still interest me, if they don't show up in my default current library. Thought there would be any easy was to integrate all my music files into one library. I am definitely not going to spend days manually doing this, but thanks again.

    yes.

give them distinct names. launch iTunes while holding the option (⌥) key, click on choose library when prompted, and select the iTunes folder of the desired library.
FWIW, there are 3rd party apps that help with managing multiple libraries, notably:
    PowerTunes
    iTunes Library Manager

How do I transfer songs from my daughters itunes library onto my ipod?  We both have itunes libraries on a single computer running Windows Vista

Your question has probaby been answered already because it was posted a month ago but anyways what you do is you plug your phone into your computer. Next you want to open iTunes and click on File. Then you go down to "Transfer Purchases from *your name* iPhone". Then just wait for it to sync and you should be good.

  • How can I have two devices with separate iTunes accounts on the same computer without sharing libraries?

I have an iPhone 3s and my sister has an iPhone 3.  We use them only as iPods.  We each have our own iTunes account, but we have to share a computer.  How can we both syn our devices without sharing our music and app libraries?

The most reliable way would be to set up individual user accounts in WIndows. Then each of your iTunes libraries will be completely separate.
    Regards.

  • 2 ITunes Libraries but only 1 Computer...is this possible?

    Hello,
My husband and I are in the process of merging two computers into one. We are hoping to use his hard drive and my computer screen. Here is my question: We both have ITunes installed on our separate computers. We both have different IPods. Well, how do I safely keep all my songs on my ITunes Library when using his computer. We both are hoping to have separate libraries if possible. What are the steps we need to take to complete this process?
    Thanks so much,
    Amanda

When the iPods belong to different people, there are basically three ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
    a) Sharing a single iTunes library
    b) Creating Multiple Libraries in a single user account
    c) Creating multiple user accounts.
Note: When you are sharing an iTunes library, you don't have to set each iPod to update in the same manner, you can mix and match from the options below as each iPod has it's own update settings
Sharing a Library and/or User Account
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish): Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod
Loading the iPod shuffle differs slightly but it can still be used with the others, for details have a look at this page: Loading songs onto iPod shuffle - Windows
    Multiple Libraries
It's also possible to have multiple libraries in a single account. To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Option key (or Shift key in Windows) when launching iTunes 7. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. This can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library:Using multiple iTunes libraries -Windows
    Separate User Accounts
Another option is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists
I don't use Windows so I can't give you a step by step on that one, however I can point you to another web page which should help you out. You can read about Windows user accounts here:
    Using Windows XP User Accounts
