Separate Layers in Photoshop File Along Z-Axis - Shortcut

I've imported a layered photoshop file and want to offset each layer along the Z axis. So as I move the camera forward towards the image it appears to have depth. The only thing is that I want the image to look exactly as I designed it in photoshop when it first appears, and then as the camera moves by it shows the depth of the image. I know that this can be done manually, but I could have sworn that somewhere I saw a demonstration where they did this with one simple move. i.e. the layer group was selected and as you drag the mouse it would separate the layers from each other, but it would enlarge or shrink each layer in order to maintain a consistent look through the active camera. Sorry if this doesn't make sense to anyone, I'm having trouble conveying what I'm thinking in my head.

Hold down the Command key as you drag the first Move control in the HUD - the selected layer will change scale as you move it in Z to keep the original composition (except for parallax) intact.

  • How can i save separate layers in photoshop elements 10, after i've laid them out as i want?

i'm preparing photographs for an animation sequence that i'm planning to develop in adobe premiere 10.  now that i have the layers as i want them in photoshop elements 10,  i want to save them to a folder to import them into premiere and laid them in different video tracks.  how doi save them?
    Thanks!

You can't. Once it's been flattened, you can't unflatten it. Talk to your designer: he/she will most likely have the unflattened version available.

  • Export InDesign Objects and Layers To Photoshop

    Hi there,
I am in a situation whereby I have designed several web pages with InDesign CS5.5  because it is easier and quicker to use paragraph styles and accurate positioning etc. The website was designed to be built entirely using CSS for colour blocks and typography with the photography being optimised and accurately sized via photoshop.
However, the developer has now come back asking me for the original Photoshop files with everything on layers. I expained that I do not have the time or the will to reproduce the entire site in Photoshop. I did explain that he should only require the photography as everything else can be made using CSS but to we have not reached a compromise.
I have tried running this script in InDesign to export the layers to Photoshop but all it does is export the flattened layers including all the layer's objects into a single layer in Photoshop, which is not what I want. I need all objects from the InDesign file on separate layers in photoshop.
Unless I'm not using the script correctly, I am at a loss of how to quickly reproduce the site in Photoshop.
I can't upload a screenshot of the site as it's for a large retailer in the UK and still under wraps so to speak.
    Any suggestions appreciated!

If you are only getting one layer in PS after running ing the script, then there only one layer in ID. You have to create layers in ID's layer panel and move the objects to the desired layers.

  • Photoshop file as menus for DVD studio

    G'day guys - great forum!
Can someone tell me - How compatible are photoshop files as menu pages for DVD Studio? In particular, will DVD studio make sense of the Adobe Encore naming conventions for buttons and so ensure that buttons, highlight layers, etc are treated correctly? Or do you need to fiddle?
    Regards,
    john

Photoshop files are fine, but Encore is a different app than Photoshop.
    Quick Menus From Photoshop
One Version of Mapping Photoshop Files
    another mapping example
In general best to avoid layers in Photoshop files to assign background or overlay (meaning background - one flattened pict or tif and overlay flattend pict or tif) and layered menus (as oppossed to standard menus)

  • Replace layered photoshop file?

I have a large photoshop file (about 40 layers) that i'd like to replace with another photoshop layered file (which contains the exact # of layers with the same naming convention, although each has a different image).
Currently the only way of replacing a layered file is to select each individual layer and  search for that layer in another file.
    How  can this be done?
    Thanks
    Jeff

...the way you are already doing it. Sorry, there is no automated way to do this. AE doesn't care for a PSDs internal structure once the layers have been imported. to the program it's al ljust footage. that's good on most days as it prevents misconduct with screwy PSD files, bad on days when you need to replace things. Since the layers are named identically, a script might be of help. Perhaps something along those lines is floating around on AEnhancers or AEScripts...
    Mylenium
    Wait, what?
That's exactly how after effects deals with photoshop files, it looks for file name then layer name, it does not arbitrarily convert it to some new footage type.  As long as the shell of the photoshop file is the same (filename, number of layers, and layer names), then the AEP, placed in the directory relative to the PSD will update with WHATEVER those current images are.
Sorry to disagree here, Mylenium, and you obviously have a lot of posts and have likely helped many many people, but I think this response is just plain wrong.  I even went so far as to triple check doing a quick test, and the AEP/PSD combination behaved as i expected it to.  And you would get misconduct from messing with the PSD.  Try changing a layer name in photoshop and saving it, then opening you AEP and see what happens (the dreaded color bars).
As for your problem, Jeff, since you can't just copy and replace the old file due to the need to keep it plus the new one, your best bet is to import the PSD as a comp, and then alt+drag the individual layers from the project palette to the selected layers that need replacing.  This will keep all of your keyframes and whatnot.
    OR
Maybe you create two separate directories, one with the old and one with the new PSD, and set two separate AEP's up the way you want them, then combine those directories and import one of the AEP's into the other (I love the fact that you can import an AEP into an AEP...has saved my butt MANY times).  That might be the ticket right there.
    I hope maybe that helps

  • ANIMATED GIF IN A LAYERED PHOTOSHOP FILE

I created a photoshop file with text and background layers.  The client wants me to place an animated GIF in the center of the file.
How do I get all but 3 layers which comprise the animated GIF to not go into the animated gif timeline on the bottom of the screen.  I can only get this to work by turning off all the text and background layers.  I need the timeline to just have 3 layers in it and only those layers move.
    Thanks

If you only want the center region to be animated, you need to splice it out to its separate file and re-assemble the whole shebang later
Or you could just change the center part and export the whole thing as an animated gif. If you have 3 frames and you only want the center piece to change, leave the background on all 3 frames but have a different center on each of the frames. Whole thing will be animated but will only look like the middle is changing.

  • FEATURE REQUEST: Preserve Transparency of Files when Opening As Layers in Photoshop

I am a digital scrapbooker and I have begun using Lightroom to organize my digital scrapbooking supplies.  A file format that is very common in digital scrapbooking is PNG format.  However, PNG is not setup to accept metadata so part of my workflow is converting the PNG files to PSD files to retain the transparency and adding the ability to add metadata.
This works very well for me - when I want to scrapbook, I can search for my supplies by color, etc. and then choose Edit In, etc.  The biggest drawback is that I can't do Edit In > Open As Layers in Photoshop without losing the transparency in the PSD (formerly PNG file).  The transparency is retained when I choose Edit In> Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS5 > Edit Original.
So if you all could do something to preserve the original and still open it as layers in Photoshop, that would be wonderful!
    Kayla Lamoreaux

Another request that goes along with this one - is allowing transparent files to retain their transparency in the Print Module.  I am building storyboards and would love to be able to add a transparent TIF or PSD file on top of photos before printing.
    Thanks!

  • Importing layered photoshop files

I'm trying to import a layered photoshop file ( .psd and .tif - neither works ). I was led to believe that this would import with its layers intact in order to make an overlay menu but that doesn't happen. All of the layers do import however as a single layered file. I'm new to DVDSP so probably doing something really stupid. Cheers Doug

Actually, go ahead and use layered menus if you feel like it - just keep in mind that DVDSP is creating in the background a separate menu background for each button state, and so this type of menu usually behaves a bit sluggishly.
Some tips for working with layered psds -
They will always import as a single file. If you can see the layers when you apply it to a menu, you have done it right. Sometimes if the bit depth or color mode for the psd is incompatible, a layered file will appear to import as a flat image without layers.
Resize the menu to your video frame size and set the pixel aspect ratio in photoshop.
Save a version of your original file in which you:
-combine any layers that do not need to be separate
-flatten or rasterize any text layers and layer effects, as these will not be supported in DVDSP
-get rid of all layer sets or groups
Make sure you are creating a layered menu in DVDSP - it's a separate command from "add menu". You'll see the photoshop layers in the inspector when you add the psd to the menu, which can then be turned on and off for each button's selection state. Even a simple menu can seem complex in this window, but play with it enough and you'll figure it out.

  • Replacing Imported Layered Photoshop Files

From the file browser (or the Media Tab) in Motion (2.0.1) you can easily replace an object in a layer by dragging and dropping a new file onto that object. This is handy if you modified an image but want to apply the same animation to it. So here's my question:
I have an imported layered photoshop logo in my project and I want to replace some of those layers with a modified version of that logo (the animation is staying the same so I'm trying to avoid copying and pasting hundreds of keyframes to my altered layers). How can I replace the individual layers?
I tried importing a single layer from the new PS file as a test but in the Media Tab, Motion still references the entire photoshop file so when I try to replace the corrosponding layer it just inserts the entire flattened PS file.
    What say you?
      Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Motion Version 2.0.1

    hi,
    welcome to the forums.
i have found that if i update the photoshop file then the imported layers in Motion update as well. Are you not seeing this?
Could you not save the layer out of the photoshop file as a separate file and import that?
    regards

  • Hello, is there a way to export or save layers from Indesign to separate png or pdf -files?

Hello, is there a way to export or save layers from Indesign to separate png or pdf -files? I have a Indesign document with serveral layers and I need them as separate png files.
I know that is is possible with Illustrator but can't find it for Indesign.
    Thanks a lot.

The script Peter's noting is in #122 here:
how to export indesign layers to photoshop layers (same structure)
It is OSX only and exports PDFs for creating Photoshop layers. The exported PDFs get trashed so if you can use AppleScript I can edit out the Photoshop part post a version that only saves the PDFs

  • "unable to open project file" after importing layered Photoshop file

After spending a day of work, I saved and closed my 720p project. Today, I can't open it. I get a message saying: "Unable to open project file." Same thing happens with the auto-saved copy.
I have narrowed down the problem to this: I made a new 720p project file. Without doing any work, I import a single layered Photoshop file (.psd), then save and close the project. When I try to open it, I get the message again: "Unable to open project file."
Works fine at home. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    PPJ

I'm just now having the same problem, though I'm using FCE 3 . I can open older (NTSC) files. Just not new HD files that I have also blindly used alpha+Photoshop layers in. When I create a new HD file with a few HD clips in it and even use an audio track from the project I'm wanting to make, and use TIFF versions of the graphics and save it, it will open right up -- but something about these PS files.

  • Photoshop File with Layered Set to Multiply Not Honored in InDesign CS3

I am placing a PSD file from Photoshop CS3, that has a reflection/shadow layer set to Multiply with an additional layer of the model set to Normal within Photoshop. When I place this PSD in InDesign CS3, the Multiply inside of the Photoshop file is not honored.
    Is this Normal Behavior?
    Thanks

    Hey all,
I've encountered this same problem in CS3, and for the life of me, I thought I remember in CS2 that the layers were indeed honored--hence the advantage of using native PSD files in InDesign. This was so any effects (transparency or otherwise) would be carried over in the InDesign file, therefore removing the limitations of using legacy formats like TIFF or EPS, which did not allow this type of dynamic workflow.
Give us your thoughts on this, as it has hindered a couple of jobs in CS3 which required the effects exactly as explained above by the OP.
    Thanks!

  • Using Photoshop files with layers in iDVD

I prefer using my old DVD Studio Pro to iDVD, but since newer versions of Quicktime can't export to mpeg2 I'm forced to either use iDVD or buy a new version of DVDSP. Given that iDVD is already on my computer and DVDSP requires the purchase of the Final Cut Suite, I was wondering about how tweakable the menus and themes in iDVD are. Is there a way to create customized themes with your own menu pages with different shaped buttons, unique images and text? In DVDSP you could import Photoshop files and the file would retain the layers which would allow you to use layers as buttons, images, or text on you menu. Is there a way to do this in iDVD or am I out of luck? Thanks in advance!

any version of DVDSP contained "Compressor", which does the conversion of any iM project into the needed m2a, m2v streams for use in DVDSP... and no version of QT was able to export to mpeg2, except you tought that trick with some plug-ins, installed by DVDSP.... (?)
sure, you can customize menus, but not as flexibile as DVDSP; read the tutorials, or one of the "Missing Manuals" by David Pogue; import of PS-layers is not supported; iDVD is a consumer product.-

  • How to open Photoshop files as layers in an open Illustrator file?

    Hi there,
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but right now I'm working with both Photoshop and Illustrator CS6 on a mac. I'm creating a graphic. The background is a (cartoonish) mouth and I finished it a couple of days ago. (It's an Illustrator file.) I've been working on the letters to go inside of the mouth, (Once I'm finished it'll look as though they're being crushed.) I scanned and edited small wooden letters in Photoshop, and now I would like to work with them with the background in Illustrator. I understand how to open a Photoshop file in Illustrator, but I don't want to open the document as a separate Illustrator file. Is there a way to open a file from Photoshop as a second layer?
Some of the letters repeat as well. Will I have to create two files for this, or can I open the same file twice?
    Thanks! VA

Simply copy&paste the stuff to the worjking document. You are over-thinking this.
