Separate Palm desktop installs for Palm M505 and its apps and Palm Treo 680 and its apps on same Windows XP computer?

Hello:
I'm trying to do a workaround. I've got a Palm M505 that has a terrific keyboard that hooks up to it. This lets me write documents in a very portable way. The Treo 680 never had the equivalent, really full-sized external keyboard made compatible with it. So, I want to create documents on the M505 but otherwise mostly use the Treo 680.
Here's the rub. When I tried to sync both devices to my Palm Desktop version 4.1.2 for Windows XP, it didn't work. Hotsync tries to synchronize apps that won't work on the M505. Also, the versions of Documents to Go are very different (5.x versus 8.x).
I would love to have a separate Palm Desktop installation for each device, so I can have a nice desktop environment for each by launching them separately. But, the Palm Desktop installation "wizard" shuts down and won't give me the opportunity to do a separate Desktop install.
Any ideas other than buying an ultra-small laptop and dropping this kludgy scheme? For instance, if I were to copy the installed files from one directory to another, would this work, or would it not be set up in the Registry?
Thanks!

Okay. Stubbornness pays off! I was able to beam documents between my Palm M505 and Treo 680, avoiding the need for complicated syncing of both Palms to my laptop machine. I was also able to beam documents from both Palms to my Dell Inspiron M300 laptop, running Windows XP Pro.
When beaming between Palm devices, the results were better. In the M505, Documents to Go version 5.004 doesn't translate documents into Microsoft Word format but into something it calls Word to Go. The Treo has DTG version 8.003, which is able to read files in Word to Go format and save in native Microsoft Word for Windows format.
However, even when beaming a Word to Go (old format) document directly onto the Desktop of my Windows XP machine, it gave me a document I could open, with the text I'd input following a bunch of characters Word obviously didn't understand. If I add the file from my desktop to the newer Documents to Go version on my laptop, I expect it will translate it into a Word file when it syncs to the Treo but haven't tested that. In either case, beaming between Palm devices is the easiest solution and completely solves the problem.
For any readers who are interested, the reason I've so stubbornly tried to solve this problem is that I'm a fast touch typist. My old Palm M505 plugs directly into a wonderful, old Palm Portable Keyboard that is full-sized. Because it's a hard-wired connection, I can type fast. That old keyboard compresses into the same folded footprint as some new foldover external keyboards. It does this even though much bigger by folding in an accordian-like fashion, with four flat surfaces folder together. That keyboard design now exists in some of the keyboards sold by IGo corporation (their old name for it was Sierra Stowaway Bluetooth Keyboard). But, they were unable to figure out how to handshake their Bluetooth with the odd Bluetooth configuation in the Treo 680. Why Palm made the Bluetooth library different in the Treo 680 from other Treos is a mystery to me, but enough of this tangent. Some interested in this workaround may be curious for similar reasons.

Is there any chance of Palm Desktop native for Mac with Intel.
To HP/Palm: please supports Palm Desktop for Mac and release a new version native for Mac with Intel. There is not competition for such a software (derived from Apple Claris Organizer). You will sell HP/Palm devices for sure. Actually, the main reason I did that in the past was because I could have the Palm Desktop software for Mac.

  • Palm Desktop replacement for Mac and iPhone?

Since Palm Desktop is no longer in active development, is there a Palm Desktop replacement for Mac and iPhone?
    http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/common/article/33219_en.html#mac
I mean, a single application (not a bunch of them like Address Book, iCal etc) that works on Mac (desktop) and that can sync with the iPhone. Including all data from the current Palm Desktop:
    1. Address List
    2. To Do List
    3. Memo List
    4. Date Book
    Thanks.

If only Apple did something like that (all-in-one-application personal organizer with contacts, memos, calendar, to do lists, etc)
Well, they offer all those functions--Mail has Notes and To-dos show up in both Mail and iCal, plus Address Book. Clearly someone made the fundamental decision that separate integrated programs were better than an all-in-one, so I wouldn't expect an all-in-one from Apple in any foreseeable future. But you can send a feature request, if you like:
    http://apple.com/feedback
What would be interesting---and may exist, I haven't looked---would be if a third-party used the open access to iCal/Address Book info to build an all-in-one that integrated with Apple's separate apps, which could provide seamless iPhone/OS X integration while still letting people have the unified interface. Postbox uses Address Book but I didn't see any calendar/notes features in my quick check. Lots of apps build better replacements for Apple's individual programs--BusyCal, I think a Mail replacement, etc---but nothing unified that I've heard of.
However, my point was that you may be better off grabbing Entourage 2008 while it is still available than waiting for Outlook 2011, which is going to be a different program. Sometimes features go backwards, and Missing Sync compatibility may change or be delayed with Outlook 2011. I don't see the advantage of hanging onto PD until the very last minute.

  • Palm desktop installation on Win 7--?serial port will work

Still syncing on my old laptop.  Tried to use the palm desktop CD to install
ver 4.1 for my Kyocera 7135 on on win 7 64 bit machine.  It wouldn't run the installation program.  I had a virtual PC installed anyway and got the desk top installed on that machine.
I had to enable the USB port for it to sync and the program ran---but no data exported to the PC!!???
Have no clue what is wrong.  I read that a few people have had the sync work with a serial port connection.
I have an express port on the new laptop and wonder if the virtual machine will use that OK and if that will fix
the lack of data transfer.  Perhaps through in the towel and use the old laptop to sync but that will only work for awhile.
    Thanks for any comments.

Just for the heck of it, I did a factory reset on the iPad again, and gave it another shot on the Win 7 64 machine at home. I uninstalled iTunes, restarted the computer, installed iTunes 9.1.1 64 bit for Windows, and achieved the exact same results: impossible to get iTunes to sync Google Contacts to the iPad. It goes through the motions, but never delivers any contacts to the iPad.

  • Palm Desktop Installation Problems

When I tried to open my Palm Desktop to sync my Tungsten E, I found that the program had become corrupted and would not open.
I decided that the best way of overcoming this problem was to download a fresh copy of Palm Desktop from PalmOne and re-install. This did not work, as the install kept stopping and a pop-up window would announce that a newer version of Desktop was already installed.
I then tried to un-install whatever remained of Palm using the Windows Add/Remove Utility but it kept telling me that there was a Network problem and would not Un-install even though we are not connected to a network.
Today I learned of the free RevoUninstaller utility which I downloaded, installed and ran. It identified a considerable number of leftover pieces of Palm files, keys, etc. which I allowed RevoUninstaller to delete.
This appears to have eliminated the issue of the "newer version of Desktop is already installed". However, during this new install, while the Palm Desktop InstallShield Wizard is installing "Registering Class Servers", I now get another error message as follows:
Error 1401. Could not create key.
    HKey_Users\S-1-5-21-299502267-1123561945-839522115-1006\software \Classes
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
This is a single, home-based computer with two Users and not connected to a network. Can anyone help me sort out this problem.
    Thanks, Frank
    Post relates to: Tungsten E

Thanks for your suggestions. This whole problem started when I was unable to open Desktop and sync my Tungsten E. It appeared that the program had been corrupted. So I tried to uninstall and then reinstall using the downloaded the Desktop software (Win414EN.exe, Version 8.2.160.0) from PalmOne. I kept getting error messages so I followed some of the instructions that I found on previous postings on this forum.
I tried to uninstall the previous version listed on my computer (Version 4.1.0420) using the Windows Add/Remove Programs. This was unsuccessful as it would not uninstall.
I then edited the registry and deleted all evidence of Palm as suggested in the instructions. This also did not fix the problem.
I then downloaded the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility  and ran that to try to uninstall Version 4.1.0420. - This was again unsuccessful.
Then I tried to Install (Run) the downloaded "PalmOne Desktop Win414EN.exe, Version 8.2.160.0" software again, the Palm Desktop Install Shield Wizard opened started the installation procedure and an error message opens that states "A newer version of  Palm Desktop is already installed". After clicking OK on the error message, Wizard terminates the installation and the page changes and instructs me as follows: "InstallShield Wizard completed. The Wizard was interrupted before Desktop could be completely installed. Your system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, please run the installation again. "Click Finish to exit the Wizard".
Of course, running the installation again resulted in the same installation problem.
I then did some research on uninstallers and decided to download and install the free utility RevoUninstaller, and ran this utility.
RevoUninstaller identified 153 files, folders, keys, etc. from Palm which I subsequently agreed to delete. The program inserted a Restore Point before deleting all.
I then tried to Install Desktop again from the downloaded software PalmOne Desktop Win414EN.exe, Version 8.2.160.0 as I don't have a PalmOne Desktop CD. I did not get a CD when I purchased my Tungsten E new about 5 or 6 years ago.
During the installation of files, the Palm Desktop InstallShield Wizard gets to Registering Class Servers, stops and puts a new error message: Error 1401. Could not create key. Hkey_Users\S-1-5-21-299502267-1123561945-83952 2115-1006\Software\Classes. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
    I have several questions,
    Did I delete too much?
What is this Hkey and how can I have access to it?
Is there a way to fix this issue?
Thanks for your anticipated help. Merry Christmas.

  • Palm Desktop software for Tungsten E wiped out my contacts

My Tungsten E has been dead for a few years, and will not take a charge, so my contacts are no longer available from it in sync mode. However, I had still been using Palm Desktop to manage contacts. Suddenly one day it started asking me for a user name and PW, which it had never done before. It will let me log on, but there are no contacts to be found, and they're not hidden, either. Further, I cannot find my contacts file anywhere in the Palm directory. I've searched everywhere. My computer does not have any viruses, and is fully operational. Every other program is working fine, including some very complex stock/options trading programs. Am I missing something?

Hello Mech7010, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
The E2 was discontinued many years ago - I'm surprised you found a "brand new" one...
Palm Desktop 6.2 does run on Win8.  Please view the sticky post at the top of this section titled, "64bit Windows USB drivers for Palm Desktop".   You will need to download and install new drivers.  Follow the directions in the post.

  • Palm Desktop Application (for Mac) crashes when I try to export Datebook module in vCal format

I'm trying to get my Palm OS Datebook data into iCal. When I attempt the export from Palm Desktop in vCal format, the process appears to start; as it nears the end, the entire Desktop application crashes. The file to which I'm allegedly saving the exported info contains no data.
The exact same thing has happened using both Mac OSX 10.4 and 10.5 on two different Macs. I already uninstalled and re-installed the latest version of Desktop software, so that's not the problem.
Any ideas about how to get my Palm Datebook info into iCal, even if it requires a third party application?
    Thanks in advance,

I'm sorry, but I don't understand what this response means: you can just use your Treo as the liason between the 2 when you switch sync softwares.
I didn't know it was possible to sync the Treo to iCal and/or Address Book. Can you tell me how? I'd be happy to switch sync software if I knew what to switch to.
I'm sorry to have to ask you to spell it out a bit more for me, but appreciate in advance your willingness to do so.

  • Palm desktop support for Tungsten E2 on new iMacs

I recently purchased a 21-inch iMac, and now find that Palm Desktop for my Tungsten E2, among the apps downloaded from my previous iMac, is not supported on the new one, because it was designed for PowerPC. Is there an Intel-compatible Palm Desltop that I can download that will support my Palm Tungsten E2.

The current owner of Palm Desktop has not seen fit to update Palm Desktop for Mac.  There is no money in it for them, so I don't see any resolution.

  • Palm Desktop Software for Linux

I recently purchased a Palm Centro (verizon).  I successfully sync it with Evolution (sometimes a little glitchy) via the gnome-pilot conduits.  However, I have not found a way to sync any software or to sync documents with dataviz software.  I see reports that Palm is building or has built a linux OS for their pda's.  Is this likely to be compatible with the Centro?  Is there or will there be a beta?  Is there a desktop software available for Linux?  I specifically use Ubuntu 8.10 but will upgrade to 9.04 soon.

The Centro will most likely be the end of the line device for Palm OS.  Palm is moving on to a different OS entirely.

Palm Desktop isn't compatible with OS X Lion and Mountain Lion. Unfortunately, your only possibility to run that application is to install Mac OS X Snow Leopard (if your Mac came with Snow Leopard or older) in a second volume on the hard drive, so you will be able to start there to use that application

  • Discoverer 11g Desktop installation for E-Business Suite 12.1.3

    Hi All,
Is it possible to just create an EUL in my E-Business Suite 12.1.3 database (DB version is 11g R2) and use the latest version of Discoverer Desktop to connect to it and generate reports without having to install Fusion Middleware?
    Thanks,
    Sinan

    Hi Michael,
The question is answered, so thank you. Since it is related, I want to ask the question here:
    I installed
Oracle BI Discoverer Administrator - version 11.1.1.3.0
Oracle BI Discoverer Desktop - version 11.1.1.3.0
I was able to export from an old version (4i) and import it into a newly created EUL in my E-Business Suite 12.1.3 database (DB version 11.2.0.2 64-Bit), so I am able to login with the EUL user in Administrator, but I am not able to connect with an Application User using Discoverer Desktop.
I followed the document "Using Discoverer 11.1.1 with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 [ID 1074326.1]"
In Desktop -> Options -> Connections; "Connect to application EULs" is selected since the EUL I created was for Application Users ONLY.
    Gateway UserID/password: applsyspub/pub
    Foundation Name: apps
I get the infamous error message:
    "Unable to connect to: APPSUSERNAME@PROD
Failed to connect to database - Unable to connect to Oracle Applications database: invalid username/password."
If I change the option -> Connections to "Connect to both standard and applications EULs" I CAN login into Desktop using APPS/APPS@PROD or EUL5_US/EUL5_US@PROD, but I cannot see any of the imported Workbooks from the database.
Can you please advise as to what maybe wrong? Is this version of Discoverer certified with 12.1.3 on a 64-Bit Linux system? Could that be the reason?
    Thanks,
    Sinan
