Separate tablespaces for indexes and LOBs

I have modeled my db tables with jDeveloper. Now I would like to store my tables in default tables, my indexes in a separate tablespace, and LOBs in a 3rd tablespace.
How can I best add the tablespace definitions to the table creation sql? I can't find such functionality in jDeveloper.
If jDev does not support this, does Oracle have some other tools which could do this?
Or can I set some ALTER SESSION parameter before creating the tables which would make my indexes and LOBs go to the correct tablespaces by default?

I see jDeveloper 11g has a possibility for specifying tablespaces for the tables and LOBs.
I cant figure out how to set tablespaces for indexes though. I can tell there is definately no way to set tablespace settings for primary key / foreign key indexes.
So jDev 11g does not seem to solve my problem either.

  • Import dumpfile with seperate tablespaces for table and index

    Hi,
We have a schema for which the its tables are stored in seperate tablespace and indexes are stored in different tablespace. Now we have take full schema export. Now we want to import it on another schema. Now I want to know if the we have difference in the tablespace name we use REMAP_TABLESPACE clause of the impdp command but what about the seperate tablespace for table and indexes. How would Oracle handle this.

    Hi,
I hope you created the same tablespace structure on the target side if not so remap_tablespace option you have to use for specifying different tablespaces.Oracle will take care of putting data and index.Any how if a index is moved from one tablespace to other you have to rebuild them, once you rebuild them than only stattistics are gathered otherwise you
    might face some performance issue.
Better option is to keep same tablespace structures in source and target environment.

Generally, it's ok to install on two machines as long as they are both yours and you only use one version at a time.

  • Using large block sizes for index and table spaces

" You are not using large blocksizes for your index tablespaces. Oracle research proves that indexes will build flatter tree structures in larger blocksizes.
Is this a generic statement that I can use for all tables or indexes? I also have batch and online activity. My primary target is batch and it should not impact online. Not sure if both have common tables.
How to find the current block size used for tables and index? is there a v$parameter query?
What is an optimal block size value for batch?
How do I know when flatter tree str has been achieved using above changes? Is there a query to determine this?
What about tables, what is the success criterion for tables. can we use the same flat tree str criterion? Is there a query for this?

Is this a generic statement that I can use for all tables or indexes? This is a generic statement used by some consultants. Unfortunately, it is riddled with exceptions and other considerations.
One consultant in particular seems to have anecdotal evidence that using different block sizes for index (big) and data (small) can yield almost miraculous improvements. However, that can not be backed up due to NDA. Many of the rest of us can not duplicate the improvements, and indeed some find situations where that results in a degradation (esp with high insert/update rates from separated transactions).

    1) stop using generic tools to analyze specific problems
    2) define you problem in detail ()what are you really trying to accomplish - seems like performance tuning, but you never really state that)
    3) define the OS and DB version - in detail. Give rev levels and patch levels.
If you are having a serious performance issue, I strongly recommend you look at some performance tuning specialists like "http://www.method-r.com/", "http://www.miracleas.dk/", "http://www.hotsos.com/", "http://www.pythian.com/", or even Oracle's Performance Tuning consultants. Definitely worth the price of admission.

I have an iTunes account for my personal iPod Touch - have had for several years.  When my work provided me with an iPhone and now and iPad 2, they all fall under my personal iTunes account.  Is it possible for me to create a separate account for my work devices and apps, while leaving my personal account intact?  I use both my compter at home and at work to sync occasionally.

A much simpler solution would be to go into Settings > Store and turn off Automatic Downloads

  • Mac Pro - Separate HD for OSX and Windows?

Hello Mac Pro users - maybe some of you can help...
Are going to buy a Mac Pro soon - which will be used for graphic artwork and Windows games. Today I have a Mac and a PC - for the same purpose - and now I want to build the Mac Pro with a harddisk for OSX - and another harddisk for Windows (XP or Vista). Is it possible to have 2 separate HD's (or more) with each systems using the standard setup by Bootcamp - or do I have to make a partition on the OSX HD and then install Windows there?
I'm asking this pro forum because I can't get a clear answer here in Denmark where I live - a Apple supplier first said it was impossible - then 2 days later, that it was possible, but they will charge me for 2 hours of support - and in another forum some have told me it was easy - but have given me no help how to do it - and again some have told me to use some software called "rEFIt".
So is it possible - and hard to do?
If possible, please tell me in steps how to do...

Boot Camp will allow you to
utilise an entire disk for Windows. If you go to the
Boot Camp web page you can actually see it in a
    picture…
    http://www.apple.com/bootcamp/
The only thing you need to be wary of is that the
Boot Camp Assistant will not wrok from a Mac OS X
installation that is on a RAID set. As long as you
boot mac OS X from a single drive then it's really
    easy.
I had a setup for awhile of two drives in RAID-0 for my Startup drive, a backup single drive, and a separate 300GB drive just for Windows.
In Windows the "Startup" drive in Control Panel would not show the RAID-0 Startup volume, but I could startup from it by hitting Option when it rebooted.

  • Separate CSS for IE and Firefox

    Hi all,
older versions of Robohelp generated to separate CSS files in the Wephelp for IE and Firefox. Evidently this feature was dropped somewhen. However I need it now to resolve some specific Firefox problems in a project.
I thought I could add the corrsponding script in the master page that checks for the browser and selects the CSS, but thought I should ask the forum first.. are any solutions for this already known?
    Robert

If you are sure there is no way around OK but sometimes someone knows a solution. I'm not saying I do, just that sometimes someone will pop their head over the parapet with the answer.
It used to be the case that bullets were a pain for me until I found out that Firefox's own CSS had an indent that you could negate without affecting IE. Result, almost the same appearance in both browsers.
I haven't tried it but RoboHelp 10 allows you to write media queries and you can define the browswer. In theory you can have a default style for IE and other browsers but specify a rule that if the browser is Mozilla, the CSS is to be modified.
That's the cheery theory and I don't know the ins and outs of how well it would work in reality. Do let us know if you decide to take the plunge.

  • Separate drives for samples and audio files..?

    Hello all
I am moving to Macbook Pro (previous gen) with Logic Studio after years of PC (feel like I’m standing on the edge of a precipice staring anxiously down!). Will be looking to use it live in our 3-piece band to run existing MIDI Files and live triggered BFD drum samples
Have decided on getting an Echo AudioFire 8 to handle the necessary Audio outs and MIDI connections and will be replacing our rather dated Korg 05R/W General MIDI module with virtual instruments / samples libraries
I am thinking that once the Bass (probably Orange Tree CoreBass samples through Kontakt 3) and Orchestration (still wide open to suggestions on that!) are done, they’ll be exported as Audio files or perhaps ‘frozen’ in Logic to ease the load on real-time processing
    Here’s the query then:
*Assuming that the internal drive will be for OS and programs only, will having the sample libraries and exported audio song files on separate physical drives from each other pay dividends – particularly when considering that the audio tracks (probably no more than two or three stereo files) will be streaming whilst BFD is triggering live samples via MIDI input..? I’m wondering if the samples and audio separate drives situation will be considerable beneficial, or given the intended application, would this approach be merely over-speccing things?*
If that is thought to be the best approach, what do you believe to be the best way of hooking these up? I plan on using the FW400 port for the Echo AudioFire 8 and have ordered a Sonnet Express eSATA Card to hook up an external drive. Should any additional drive look to use the FW800 port or should I simply tag into the spare eSATA port on the Sonnet Express Card..? My concern with the latter is that a bottleneck would occur in the Express port and defeat the whole object
I would really appreciate any thoughts on this
    Many thanks
    Clive

    My opinions:
If you're really only talking about 2-3 audio tracks per song, having them on a separate drive is not going to make that much difference. I'd recommend just using one drive for both audio and samples for now, you can always add another hard drive later if you're getting disk errors, or if you start using more audio tracks.
If you're looking for a good orchestral library, I recommend Vienna Symphonic Library Special Edition (about $500). VSL sounds great, and this particular set is much cheaper and still gives you a good amount of instruments/articulations.
If you do go with a third drive, use both eSATA ports. Even with a little bottlenecking, you should see substantially faster performance than with FW800. The data transfer rate of eSATA is over 3 times that of FW800.

  • What goes where when using separate drives for data and applications?

    Hello people!
In Mac Guru's "Guide to Macintosh Performance Acceleration" it states " Separating your "User" data from the Operating System and Applications is the simplest and most cost effective way to enjoy a significant performance boost at
    minimal cost"...
Now how exactly do I do that?
I have a 40 GB HD with Panther on it and a 55 GB drive I want to use for the "data" drive. What goes where?
    Thanks for reading!

    Hello Danny:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
I disagree with the premise in that article - "significant" is relative and depends on where you are. The only method I am aware of to "separate" would be to create partitions. OS X uses sophisticated algorithms to manage memory - both real and virtual. There are very few good reasons to partition an internal HD - and several that suggest you should not do that - absent a "good" reason.

  • Using separate drive for OS and RAID for data

We have an xServe with 3x1Tb drives set up as RAID 5. I read in one of the forums that it's not a particularly good idea to create separate OS/Apps and data volumes on it. Is there a way therefore of utilising a fourth drive and direcly attaching that as the bootable OS/Apps drive?
Is this possible? Is it a viable solution?

    Hi
Yes it is possible, as a viable solution? It depends? I've done this a number of times with an external firewire drive that is the boot drive. FW800 is obviously quicker than FW400. Whichever it is you are adding latency nevertheless. Ultimately its better to do this with internal drives as they will always be quicker which you will see in improved server performance.
What I have done in the past is to RAID Mirror or Stripe (using DU) 2x500GB as well as 2x750GB and even 2x1TB drives. The other bay has a single 80GB drive as the boot drive. Clone this boot drive periodically to an external FW drive. If the boot drive fails, boot from the cloned FW drive. You can run the server like that until a replacement drive can be fitted. Clone back and you should be back to normal.
As you have a RAID card installed, for RAID 5 you need a minimum of three drives, there is not much scope as you have already filled up all your bays.

  • Transportable tablespaces for migration and upgrade

    Hello All,
I'm trying to find out some theory about transportable tablespace and upgrade in a single step. I've to move a DB from a Windows server to a Linux server. Win is running 10.1 and Linux 10.2 . It's possible to use RMAN to migrate the whole database and then on new node run startup upgrade and catupgrd.sql to upgrade catalog ?
    Should work?
    Thanks
    Raj

The following doc for TDB says :-
"Note: TDB requires the same Oracle Database software version on the source and target systems; hence, a database upgrade cannot be accomplished simultaneous with the platform migration. However, best practices for a database upgrade, as documented in the Oracle Upgrade Companion, also apply to any planned database maintenance activity, including platform migration."
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/deploy/availability/pdf/MAA_WP_10gR2_PlatformMigrationTDB.pdf
There is also an Oracle Whitepaper called "Database Upgrade Using Transportable Tablespaces: Oracle Database 11g Release 1" but I am still trying to find a copy.

  • Where to store the url of a webpage for indexing and searching?

    Dear Java gurus,
We have a set of html files stroing in a file system. We can use Lucene to index those files with two fields "path" and "content ". Then using Lucene we can search and the result will be the relevant content and its path (path in the file system).
As each of these html file is a real web page, we know its url in Internet too. However, I don’t know where to store this real url and let Lucene to index not only the path, content but also this url. If this is possible, then the search result will display the url also.
Do you have any idea about this ?
This is the last obstacle for us to develop a small Google like search engine. We have already a crawler that works well.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

That file system location is where you store the content.Indeed, the file system location is where I store the content which I crawled from Internet. However, it is not the initial url from which I crawled this content. I would like to store the initial url of this content too. This is still a problem. No it isn't.
You have two pieces of data: Url and content.
If you want to store the content on the file system then your database table would have two columns: url and file_location.
    You then do the following
    1. Save the content to the file system. Derive a file path from that process.
    2. Write a record to the database consisting two data items : url and that file path.
