Separate versions of Oracle in a Sun Clustered enviroment?

Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible to have 2 different versions of Oracle (9i and 10g) registered with a Sun Clustered enviroment ?
Thanks in advance,
Nikesh

Yes , some of the applications are on 8i , because those applications will be phased out in other 2-3 months, and because of certification problems of Applications with new db releases we did not want to upgrade those

  • Error :"The provider is not compatible with the version of Oracle client"

    Hi guys!
    I'm facing this problem:
When my .Net application tries to access the DB, I get this error message above.
The application is into the same machine of DB and the operational system is Windows Server Enterprise 64 bits.
I'm comparing to another machine that has the same scenario but runs in Windows Vista 64 bits. This problem doesn't happen and I can normally access the DB.
The both database versions are 10g Release 2 (10.2) and all components from Oracle Database Components 10.2.0.2.21 are installed as the containing bellow:
-Oracle Data Provider for .NET 1.x 10.2.0.2.20

    Hi,
Often the error "The provider is not compatible with the version of Oracle client" is raised when the unmanaged dll OraOpsX.dll can't be found, can't be loaded, or is the wrong version. For version 10.2.0.x of ODP.NET and .NET Framework 2.x the file should be called "OraOps10w.dll" and should be found in the %ORACLE_HOME%\bin directory.
Since the ODAC pieces are installed on the same host as the database, are they in a separate Oracle Home or the same Oracle Home as the database software? If there are multiple Oracle Home directories, which one is in the system path first?
I would start with verifying the version of OraOps10w.dll and the system path on the server. You might also confirm that the Oracle Home directory (and everything under it) has the following permissions for Authenticated Users:
    - Read & Execute
    - List folder contents
    - Read

  • OracleAS 9.0.4 Clustering and HttpSession

Does OracleAS 9.0.4 Clustering replicate HttpSession state between cluster nodes or just stateful session bean state?
    Thanks
    Bill

"Checking operating system version: must be 5200 Failed <<<<"
So don't install this version on AIX 5.3. AS 9.0.4 has been desupported. Please don't get yourself into the hell of installing it and especially not on AIX.
Install 10.1.2.0.2, and not before you have read the certification notes on MetaLink and taken every step you need to install on this challenging platform!

  • Does oracle clusterware and oracle RAC require sun cluster

    Hi,
I have to setup oracle RAC on solaris 10 SPARC. so is it necessary to install sun cluster 3.2, QFS file system on solaris
I have 2 sun sparc servers with solaris 10 installed on it and shared LUN setup(SAN disk RAID 5 partitions)
Have to have 2 node setup for RAC load balancing.
    Regards
    Prakash

    Hi Prakash,
    very interesting point:
As per oracle clusterware documents the cluster manager support is only for windows and linux.
In case of solaris SPARC will the cluster manager get configured ???
The term "Cluster Manager" refers to a "cluster manager" that Oracle used in 9i times and this one was indeed only available on Linux / Windows.
Therefore, let me, please, ask you something: Which version of Oracle RAC do you plan to use?
Because for 9i RAC, you would need Sun or Veritas Cluster on Solaris. The answers given here that Sun Cluster would not be required assume 10g RAC or higher.
Now, you might see other dependencies which can be resolved by Sun Cluster. I cannot comment on those.
For the RAW setup: having RAW disks (not raw logical volumes) will be fine without Veritas and ASM on top.
    Hope that helps. Thanks,
    Markus

Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0) for Microsoft Windows
    THANKSSSS

    Hi,
From Oracle Documentation (Oracle® Database 2 Day + Real Application Clusters Guide):
"Oracle Clusterware and Oracle RAC do not support heterogeneous platforms in the same cluster. For example, you cannot have one node in the cluster running Red Hat Linux and another node in the same cluster running Solaris UNIX. All nodes must run the same operating system, that is, they must be binary compatible. In an active data-sharing environment, like Oracle RAC, Oracle does not support machines having different chip architectures. However, you can have machines of different speeds and size in the same cluster."

  • The provider is not compatible with the version of Oracle client... again!

    Please, please, please help me!
I get the error, "The provider is not compatible with the version of Oracle client", intermittently on my Test Server. Strangely, without restarting the server or IIS, my application suddenly decides that I don't have the right Oracle client. I don't have any such issue on my local machine even though I'm using the same Oracle 11g client from Beta 1.
I have Oracle 11g (D:\Oracle11g\product\11.1.0) installed. I tried specifying which assembly to use in my web.config:
    <compilation debug="true" defaultLanguage="c#">
    <assemblies>
    <add assembly="Oracle.DataAccess, Version=2.111.5.10, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89b483f429c47342" />
    </assemblies>
    </compilation>
I'm not even trying to use a 10g client with the Providers as discussed here: "The provider is not compatible with the version of Oracle client"
What I don't understand is why this error comes and goes?!?! Has anyone experienced anything like this?

The server is Win 2003. The local development machine is WinXP.
...I was trying to wait to install Beta 2 because of the nasty bugs reported on this forum.
I'm now seeing that ORACLE_HOME wasn't set on my server because my co-worker removed the path. Somehow it was able to find an Oracle Home on the server, but apparently, it didn't always find the same home causing this error intermittently.
Now, my question is how can I get my application to use the 11g Client as its Oracle Home, while my co-worker can use 10g Client as his Oracle Home? To be a bit more specific, he needs to use an ODBC client to connect because his application uses Classic ASP.
Is this possible, or are we going to have to set up separate machines?

  • Getting older versions of Oracle?

    Hi all,
I recently purchased Steve Adams' book ( [Oracle 8i Internal Services) and I want to
"mess around" with the scripts associated with the different chapters.
However, they don't seem to play too well with my 10 XE database and I
imagine that things will only get worse with my 11g instance.
Is there any way that I could get my hands on an older version of Oracle,
ideally 8i but 9 would do.
    TIA,
    Paul...

It appears you abuse this forum by thinking giving points to me or to others will pay my bread. That was "tongue in cheek" - I apologise if I offended you.
This forum is for volunteers, nobody is paid nor by oracle nor by the members. I am only connected to learn , help and share.I agree entirely and I greatly appreciate the help I have received here in the
past (and I have also given insofar as I have been able).
the reason behin asking you to mark the question as answered because itinitially you are asking for 8i or 9i download url. Again, I appreciate your response, but the title of the book to which I referred was
8i, so I would have thought that 8i was the ideal download.
You have been provieded by the URL. Can you stop that abuse? Everyone here will appreciate it! I responded by thanking you and then going on to say (words to the effect that) while 9i was great,
8i would probably be even better.
Also, you are asking me and others to sell you an Oracle Product ... this is illegal! Now you are being disingenuous. I SPECIFICALLY* said if it was _"legal and above board and all that"_
    - was there a part of that you didn't understand?
Yes, I have the version 8i and 7 also. But, in this case, your case and in all cases ... Sorry I cannot
sell it even for thousands of $. The 5€ was for the trouble and postage of sending the CD - not payment for the product itself.
If it's forbidden by the licence to send me a CD with an old version - fine, but I did (and I reiterate)
ask about "legal and above board and all that"
    From http://wikis.sun.com/display/Forums/Forums+FAQ:
Are Oracle Discussion Forums for obtaining support from Oracle?
No; Oracle Discussion Forums are designed for peer-to-peer knowledge sharing only; people
with urgent support matters should always use MetaLink. (There are rare exceptions: users of
some free products, such as Oracle SQL Developer and Oracle Database XE, do in fact use Oracle
Discussion Forums as their support channel.)I know exactly what the forums are for, and I believe that I participate in accordance with
both the letter and the spirit of the forums. I am not, and nor have I ever, advocated
illegal copying or use of software and I have never illegally used an Oracle product. I regret
that I can't say that I have never breached software licences, but I don't do it anymore.
Again, I apologise if I offended you, that was not my aim. I try to get and give help in an
amateur (good sense of word "amateur") and friendly spirit.
Thank you again for pointing me to the 9i - that will be a help. I'm still looking for 8i (legally and
above board). I still don't know if it's illegal for someone to send it to me or not - maybe I should
try and clarify this in another Oracle forum and start a new thread then.

    Paul...

  • Best Practices for patching Sun Clusters with HA-Zones using LiveUpgrade?

We've been running Sun Cluster for about 7 years now, and I for
one love it. About a year ago, we starting consolidating our
standalone web servers into a 3 node cluster using multiple
HA-Zones. For the most part, everything about this configuration
works great! One problem we've having is with patching. So far,
the only documentation I've been able to find that talks about
patch Clusters with HA-Zones is the following:
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-2971/6n57mi2g0
Sun Cluster System Administration Guide for Solaris OS
How to Apply Patches in Single-User Mode with Failover Zones
This documentation works, but has two major drawbacks:
    1) The nodes/zones have to be patched in Single-User Mode, which
translates to major downtime to do patching.
    2) If there are any problems during the patching process, or
after the cluster is up, there is no simple back out process.
We've been using a small test cluster to test out using
LiveUpgrade with HA-Zones. We've worked out most of bugs, but we
are still in a position of patching our HA-Zoned clusters based
on home grow steps, and not anything blessed by Oracle/Sun.
How are others patching Sun Cluster nodes with HA-Zones? Has any
one found/been given Oracle/Sun documentation that lists the
steps to patch Sun Clusters with HA-Zones using LiveUpgrade??
    Thanks!

    Hi Thomas,
there is a blueprint that deals with this problem in much more detail. Actually it is based on configurations that are solely based on ZFS, i.e. for root and the zone roots. But it should be applicable also to other environments. "!Maintaining Solaris with Live Upgrade and Update On Attach" (http://wikis.sun.com/display/BluePrints/Maintaining+Solaris+with+Live+Upgrade+and+Update+On+Attach)
Unfortunately, due to some redirection work in the joint Sun and Oracle network, access to the blueprint is currently not available. If you send me an email with your contact data I can send you a copy via email. (You'll find my address on the web)

  • Installing different versions of Oracle on the same server

We have a client that is currently on Oracle version 9.2.0.3. There is a project beginning that will have them upgrading to either 10g or 11g(still tbd). The project will have this happening in different steps. Therefore, we will need to continue to have the 9.2.03 db up and available while certain accounts are being migrated to the newer version.
Question is - can you install 2 versions of Oracle on the same server without any issues?
Or would we be better off purchasing a separate server to install 10g or 11g.

Depending on the OS certification you should be able to run both. You'll probably have to patch up the OS though. One of my servers has 3 different Oracle homes (9.2.0.5 - 10.2.0.2).
You can check the certification by clicking on the certify tab in metalink.

Are there any solutions for Oracle Clustering on Linux?

    Hi,
the latest dev. kernel (2.3.12) contains raw device support. For

I guess it will be avail. in stable kernel soon.

  • The provider is not compatible with the version of Oracle client

We are running Server 2012 64 bit with multiple homes one is 32 bit and the other 64 bit. We installed the 64 bit first then the 32 bit next in order to get our Classic ASP WebSite that is using COM+ and OLEDB to see the provider.
    C:\oracle\product\12.1.0\x86
    C:\oracle\product\12.1.0\x64
The other Websites are ASP.Net 4.0 and are running in 64 bit application pools. They are using a DAL .Net assembly built x64 with a reference to the 64 bit ODP.Net version 4.121.1.0 in C:\oracle\product\12.1.0\X64\client_1\odp.net\bin\4.
I also see there is another folder C:\oracle\product\12.1.0\X64\odac_1\odp.net\bin\2.x with version 2.121.2.0. We are on running Framework 4.0 but when I switch to this version it works but with the version out of the bid\4 we are receiving the following error when the 64 bit Websites call the assembly:
The provider is not compatible with the version of Oracle client
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleException: The provider is not compatible with the version of Oracle client
    Source Error:
    Line 87: mDataSource = dataSource
    Line 88: mConnectionString = GetDBConnectionString(dataSource)
    Line 89: mConnection = New OracleConnection(mConnectionString)
    Line 90: mParams = New List(Of IDbDataParameter)
    Line 91: End Sub
I have not been successful in getting this to work after spending endless hours, so any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
Oracle Client/ODP build with certified Visual C++ Libraries so application using ODP.NET requires "runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries" to be installed.
Oracle Database Client installation includes the Visual C++ Libraries but ODAC doesn't contain these libraries which may cause such issue.
Please check the Note 43208.1 for the particular version of Visual C++ installs with Oracle Database Client installation(e.g. 11.2.0 Database Client installs  Visual C++ .NET 2005) and also you can refer the windows event log error massage to verify which version of Visual C++ is missing.
    thanks and regards
    Venkat
