Separate Vocals from a track in Garageband?

I imported a song into garageband and I want to separate the vocals. Is there a program or a way to do this in garageband.

  • How to Separate Vocals from Music Without Losing the Vocals?

I want to separate my vocals from a song, but without losing the vocals because I want to put those vocals on another song. How can I do this? I have Garageband and Audacity on my mac, but I also have Windows. Are there any programs anyone would recommend? Can it be done with Soundtrack maybe? Or Sony Acid Pro 7? Any program that can do it please let me know so I can get it.

Separate? No. Not with any software.

  • How can I extract vocals from a track to use as an acapella?

Hi, just as the title suggests I would like to know how to extract vocals from a song so I can then use it as an acapella using Audition CS5?
Also whilst I'm here, again using audition CS5, how can I determine the bpm of whatever sound file I have open, and furthermore how can I then match the bpm from another sound file to match the bpm of the track I'm working on?
    Thanks for your time
    Dan

Your success with isolating vocals from a song depends almost entirely on how the song was mixed, and will vary greatly.  There is no perfect solution, though many times the artifacts that remain can be minimized within a mix.  Generally, you'll have the best success with music where the vocals are panned to a specific location in the mix - usually dead center, but the tool can be used to isolate any position in the stereo field - without too much instrumentation spreading into this area.  Bass sounds are usually mixed center as well, so you may need to to some additional EQ or Spectral removal of low frequencies after you complete the extraction step.
The tool you'll want to use in Audition is the Center Channel Extractor effect, located under the Effects > Stereo Imagery menu.  Start with the Acapella preset, then change the Extract parameter to Custom for some additional control.  Select the region you wish to isolate (it's often better to isolate passages separately as, for example, verses can be mixed very differently from a chorus) and begin playback with the effect open.  Use the Power button to temporarily bypass the effect so you can note the differences.
Adjust the Phase Angle and Pan parameters to maximize the vocals while minimizing the instrumentation.  Use the Frequency Range parameters to help reduce some of the low-end and high-end mix that is not associated with the vocals.  The two vertical controls on the right allow you to adjust the levels of what's being isolated vs. everything else. (Flip-Flop these to make a Karaoke mix.)  Under the Discrimination tab, the most important parameters will be the Crossover Bleed and Phase Discrimination controls.  You can adjust the FFT parameters under the Advanced tab, though I wouldn't recommend it until you're comfortable with the tool.  You don't necessarily need to know exactly what ever parameter does, but listen closely while you make adjustments and you'll begin to understand how each parameter affects the result.

  • Remove Reverb from Voice Tracks in GarageBand

I am testing out the version of GarageBand that came with my iMac.  I had previously been using GarageBand '09.
In GB 10.0 when I add any voice track, it automatically includes this reverb that I can't get rid of. The default "audio track" has no reverb but so far it looks like all of the voice tracks have it.
I have turned off the master reverb, master echo, and track reverb/echo.
    I still here it.
    What am I missing?

The "Reverb" is part of most of the predefined vocal patches.
You can save your own settings as a new instrument patch using the "Save" button at the bottom of the Library.  Then use this patch, when you create a new vocal track.

  • Does anyone know how to separate vocals from instrumentation in logic 9 ?

Hi, does anybody know how to seperate a vocal line from the instrumentation in logic 9 ? I tried splitting and inverting the audio but I cant get it to work.

Mac or Windows? "Edit In"  PSE9 worked for me creating a 16 bit PSD on my Win 7 machine.

  • What's the best method to isolate isolate vocals from a track?

For example, say I bring a finished song from a professional musician in to Logic. The song has drums, guitars, pianos, bass, etc. But it also has vocals. How can I eliminate the singer or rapper so that only the instruments are left? Or vice versa, how can I eliminate the instruments, so only the vocals are left? In other words, if I sample Kanye West's "Heartless", how can I take out Kanye's voice? What filters are best? --No Kanye jokes please.

Why is everyone so keen to isolate vocals ? And not the Saxophone ? Or the Accordeon ? Or the Tibetan Noseflute ? This question comes up once a day or so.
To get rid of everything in the center, including vocals, flip the polarity on one side and fold to mono.
Do it only for a specific frequency range if you want to at least try to preserve kick drum and bass, which are usually also centered.
For something like Kanye, it might be more effective/simpler to either just chop it apart and duplicate the parts where there are no vocals (thus vastly improving the song) or just rebuilding it entirely yourself.

  • Is there a way to import several tracks at once from my Boss BR8 so that they show up as separate tracks in GarageBand?

Is there a way to import several tracks at once from my Boss BR8 so that they show up as separate tracks in GarageBand?

I had to google your device - looks like it's a vintage multi-track recorder that records to Zip disks. So I guess there's no digital USB or Firewire multichannel output and no way to transfer your tracks digitally - or is there? If not, your only option is to record the device's audio track by track into GB.

  • REMOVE VOCALS FROM TRACKS

DOES LOGIC PRO 8 HAVE A PLUGIN FOR REMOVING VOCALS FROM TRACKS?
    Thanks.

Sample if I'm not mistaken that was a tongue in cheek comment, and I got it... so you know it wasn't lost on everyone. As far as the VS880... I'd like to hear the "stunning' results I had one of those way way back and the bottom line is you are taking out frequencies that are panned centre, so ... as pointed out the reverbs and delays are almost never panned centre and won't get removed... but there are a lot of other instruments that suffer from the removal of said frequencies and to my ear ... the results always suck... DNA is just new and even though a revolutionary break-through, I seriously doubt it's anywhere close to that. I mean he did have a break through playing with the math of frequencies but when it comes to trying to separate formants all those other unique elements that distinguish between the sounds of different instruments including voice .. forget it...
At this point DNA won't even separate drums, and for all intents and purposes you could argue that each drum in a kit is pitched differently ... They are sooooo far from separating instruments sharing frequencies not worth mentioning...

  • How do I move a downloaded file (from YouTube) to GarageBand so as to separate video from audio, then send audio to iTunes?

How do I move a downloaded file (from You Tube) to Garagband - so as to separate video from audio (which I will send to iTunes)

Create a new GarageBand "Movie" project, then import your movie into GarageBand, by dragging it from the "Movies" tab of the Media Browser into the Timeline. GarageBand will split the movie into a video channel and an audio channel. Delete the video/movie channel and use the "Share" menu to send the audio channel to iTunes (assuming you have iLife '11 GarageBand)

  • Trying to add audio narrative to a Slideshow via vocal track on Garageband-won't take. How can I do this for illiterate friend?

I have set up a Slideshow on iDVD with the intention of adding a narrative and burning a dvd, so a friend of mine who can neither read nor write will be able to watch the pictures while listening to the narrative.  I have produced a narrative by using the Male Vocal track on Garageband, but when I try to drop the result into the Audio box at the base of the Slideshow Edit Window, it won't take. I know that only certain types of audio will work, but I thought Garageband would do the job.
If I can't do it that way, how can I make a suitable narrative without putting it separately onto a cassette tape?
Using an iBook G4, running OSX 10.4.11– the latest system I can run.

Save the Garageband track as an aiff or mp3 file and use that.

  • TS5459 How do you get vocals from an ext mike/amp to record onto an audio track?

How do you get vocals (from an ext mike/amp setup to record decently onto an audio track? I had no problems doing this with my 2008 IMAC & Logic Pro  Studio 8, but can't seem to do it with my new IMAC & Logic X. Very frustrating.

The Korg 1600 doesn't seem to have a USB connection. It does have S/P DIF "IN" & "OUT", (which I have never used) and a SCSI site. With my older system, I had the IMAC 1st jack go directly to the Peavey or sometimes to one of the 8 imputs on the KORG 1600......so whatever I had prepared on LOGIC &/or ITUNES would play out. The 2nd IMAC jack connected to the  MASTER OUT jacks on the back of the KORG 1600. The KORG 1600 acted as an interface. Vocals via microphone, or guitar, or instruments from the Triton Synthesizer went into the 1600 & recorded onto the Logic project  Also on the back of the KORG 1600 was   MONITOR "RT & LT"  output jacks that are connected to my Peavy mixer that in turn plays out through speakers.
The Logic Preferences/Audio is as follows:        Devices is highlighted
                                                                              Output device: ;Built-in output
                                                                              Input device: Built-in microphone
                                                                              I/O buffer size: 128
Thank you for trying to help me with this and for your patience. . (I'm good with music & other things, but not with computers.)

  • Silence at the end of a vocal track in garageband?

I tried piecing together two vocal tracks in garageband, but when i did so, there was a silence in the beginning of the second track. When i moved the second track a few bars forward it would play normally, but if i put it right behind the other track, there is a silence before the second part plays. How do i fix this? Please help!

Have you tried to trim the audio regions and remove the silence at the start and the end, before you join the regions in one track? You can either select the region, position the cursor at the end of the silent part and then use command-T to split the region, then delete the silent part, or simply position the cursor at the end of the loop the end of the region and drag the end to trim it and to remove the silence.

  • Removing Vocals from an iTunes track

is there a way to remove the vocals from a song?

    There are a few options:
    1. Download Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/), open the song in Audacity, Select All (CMD + A), and select Effect >> Utillity >> Vocal Remover in the menu bar. You can mess with the settings if you know what your doing or just select OK.
Note: this method works decently, but not perfectly depending on the song.
    2. Google the name of the song followed by "instrumentals" to see if you find anything.
