Separating i tunes accounts

My wife and I share an itunes account,we now want to have seperate accounts. Do we have to re-purchase all the shared apps? What about music and photos?

Hello pdubssr
To answer that question, yes your would have to repurchase the items that you want under that Apple ID. Alternatively, if it is just for iCloud you or your wife could have an iCloud that you could use for syncing that personal data and then Share the Apple ID for purchases. The article below will explain further.

  • My family uses a single lap-top as our main internet connection and when we synch our respective I-pods, our I-tunes account seems to wipe-out our playlists, even though we have tried to create separate I-tune accounts.  Help!!

My family uses a single lap-top as our home computer and several of us have i-pods that we like to synch, using I-tunes.  Although we've tried to create separate I-tune accounts, our i-tunes playlists are getting wiped out when one of us deletes songs on our I-pod and it seems as though I-tunes is not distinguishing our distinct accounts and all i-pods are being synched to reflect the latest i-pod anyone makes on their respective account.  It appears as though our distinct I-tune accounts are not being loaded on our lap-top when we sign in and unfortunately, when we're in I-tunes, there is nothing to indicate what account is on the screen.  For all the glowing appraisals apple-related products usually receive, we are finding i-tunes and its interface with our respective i-pods to be a very, very frustrating experience.
Can anyone shed some light on this for a family of non-techies?  Thx

You need to create separate Windows user accounts if you want to seperate the behaviour of iTunes for each user. That also means separate iTunes libraries for each user.
Windows is a multi-user operating system but you are not using it properly. iTunes is not a multi-user application. No application is. You can't expect it to treat different users differently when they are all using the same computer user account.
Do you understand what I mean?

  • I created a new i tunes account and I am trying to add music to my I pod touch but since I had an old account it will not let me add any new songs or let me transfer my existing songs to the new account.  I also purchased one song and it did not download

I just opened a new I tunes account.  The music that I purchased from an old account will not transfer to my new account & the old account email no longer exists it is (djbdeercreek613@com***t.net) and the password would not be accepted when we entered it. I also purchased one song "Country Must Be Country Wide" By Brentley Gilbert and it did not download to my i-pod. please let me know how I can get this problem taken care of.
    Thank you

Apple IDs do not go out of existence.  All purchases are PERMANENTLY associated with whatever ID was used for the purchase.  Go here to investigate.

I am experiencing on going problems with my i phone 4 due to me sharing an i tunes account with my daughter. I have been told by apple to cancel my existing (shared) i tunes account and open a new one for my use only. How do I do this? I cant find any links in i tunes to do this. mountfield

No, it's done on the computer, it's just done on the web and not through iTunes. I guess you could do it on the iPhone, but it would be easier to do on the computer.
Just go to the site linked above, then click on the big blue button and fill out the neccessary information.

  • I have a i tunes account but laptop is broken . how do i sync my ipod to a new laptop?

i have a i tunes account but laptop is broken . how do i sync my ipod to a new laptop?

Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device. Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.

As for you own music, you may have to use a third party software to copy over. A good Free one is called Sharepod which you can download from Download.com here:

  • How can I have multiple I-tunes accounts on the same computer?

So I have a mac, and my brother has his i-tunes account on it. Earlier today I set up my mom's account. All of my brother's songs were on her account, and when I deleted a song from her library, it was also deleted from my brother's library! My mom wants to upload all of her CD's onto her account, but if it is also going on my brother's account, he won't have anymore space for his songs. Is this normal? How do I get these two accounts to have nothing to do with each other? They don't want the same songs as one another.

Yes. Get an external hard drive if you need more space.
Everybody should have their own copies. Sharing copies of music does not work for long, since one person's change can affect others, as you observed.

  • CAN YOU HAVE TWO I TUNES ACCOUNT ON ONE COMPUTER?

CAN YOU HAVE TWO I TUNES ACCOUNT ON ONE COMPUTER?

The problem with making separate accounts is that this is a laptop, so likely not a huge hard drive, and if the three iTunes libraries need to have a lot of the same music (because everyone or two or three like some of the same stuff) you end up with double or triplicate copies of the music on the hard drive eating up drive space. Since they don't use his laptop normally, creating more accounts (with all the associated files and drive space usage each account would eat up) it probably isn't worth it.
Instead, the best approach is like Chris said, to make playlists for the girls in the main library and then set up the various iPod to either sync everything (if big enough) or sync only specific playlists (if not big enough).
Alternatively, they can set their iPods to manual syncing and then when Dad is visiting they can hook up their iPods and "shop" the library and drag in whatever they want to add to the iPods and delete what they no longer want.

  • Having 2 i-tunes accounts on one device

I have a Mac Book Pro with an I-tunes acct.  We have several Apple devices such as i-pads, i-pods and phones and we all share one I-Tunes account.  My daughter just got her first i-phone and wants her own i-tunes account.  My question is:  Can I have 2 I-tunes accounts and manage both on my Mac Book?  And can we share games, music, videos etc between the 2 accounts?
    Thanks,
    Laurie

You can have content from multiple Apple IDs in a single iTunes library and on a device(to a limit of five on the device). Note that you'll need to sign in with the Apple ID associated with each application to update it, and may need to in order to make in-app purchases.

  • I've recently changed the email address on my i tunes account. The emai address on my icloud account hasn't changed, so i can't buy additional storage. It also won't let me delete my existing icloud acc.

To change the iCloud ID on your phone, first save your photo stream photos to your camera roll (if not already there) by opening the my photo stream album, tapping Edit, tap the photo thumbnails, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll.  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with the changed ID.  This deletes the account and your iCloud data from your phone, but not from iCloud.  Provided you are signing back into the same account, your iCloud data will reappear on your phone when you sign back in.

  • How can I set up two i tunes accounts on the same i mac for different profiles

I have set up two profiles on my new i mac. I now want to access two different i tunes accounts but when downloading the second account I get a message saying the computer is already set up with an apple id and if you download you can not auto download !! for 90 days ??? I don't understand this

Jus don't turn on Autodownload (iTunes prefs > Store).
Autodownload simply tells iTunes to automaticall download items if you purchase them elsewhere (such as a different computer or iPhone/iPad).
You can still download them when your purchase them on the computer or go to iTunes store in iTunes, select Purchased on the right side under Quick Links.
