Separation of music

Ok I want to convert a bunch of songs to mp3 from itunes..
I know how to do this but I am curious if there is anyway to have all the songs that are being converted go directley into a playlist that I make?
Also is there any easy way of removing the duplicates when finished?
Thanks

Yes.  Well, "almost" directly...
Since you know how to convert them, go ahead and do so.  Now go to Music view and sort by Date Added.  All the newly created files will be in a row at the top.  Highlight them and drag them to the playlist.

  • Backup playlist information separately from music backup

I have backup software that backs up my music, but not the playlists, to my external hard drive as part of my general data backup. Can someone please confirm that the correct way to backup just the playlist information (i.e. separately from the music, which is caught in the backup done by my software) to my external hard drive is as follows:
    File
    Library
    Export Playlist
and then of course select my external hard drive as the destination for the resulting XML file.
This results in a 3,471 KB XML file for a music library of approx. 1600 songs with multiple playlists.
Geez, I wish Apple would stop changing the online instructions on this sort of stuff - this used to be clear.
    Thanks
    Elizabeth

You could do it that way.
You could also just back up the itunes libary.itl file. That's what I do.

  • How to move from 3 separated itunes music folders into one new hard discs??

So : i bought a new external 6TB thunderbolt hard disc (for extra speed for my huge library) and i copied from 3 other 2TB hard disc into there. I named the sub folder the same like an original. I thought it is enough to determine the new place of each in "media folder locations" and updated.... but its not working
What should i do? How will see the itunes these music folders like an originals??? I dont want to reimporting, because  i dont want to loose  all of my "date added, played etc" informations.
If I'm doing three  partitions with folders, as were the old ones will work?
..or should i rewrite the iTunes Music Library.xml with text editor?
pls help me and thx for answering!!!!!
    macbook pro/ osx 10.8.4 / itunes 11.0.4

Best to give the new iPad a different name. I assume you have purchased an iPad 2 or the next generation iPad which is just called "iPad"? If so, you can name the iPad 2 "Kens iPad 2" or "Kens iPad 3" since the new iPad just introduced is the 3rd generation.
The first time you connect your new iPad to iTunes on the computer used for syncing your existing iPad, you will be prompted to transfer the backup for your existing iPad to the new iPad, or set up the new iPad as a new iPad. Both must be followed by a sync with iTunes.
Each device has its own sync preferences with iTunes, which can be the same or different for each device synced with the same iTunes library and computer.

  • Separating apps/music in iTunes for 2 different apple id's

I've had an iPhone for a few years and I recently got my daughter an iPod. She has her own email account for facetime/texting but I originally signed her in with my apple id.  She's been downloading free apps to her ipod and I've been entering my apple id password for her.  Now I want to keep our things separate...meaning I don't want her games or music and I don't need her to have my random apps. I just signed myself off her ipod and signed her in using her apple id, but when I plug each device into my pc, it shows all the same apps regardless of the device I plug in.
Is there a way to separate us???  Even if I have to delete all of the apps she downloaded from my id and start all over, I would do that, but I need to know how to make itunes recognize her as a separate user with separate music and apps going forward.
Hope that made sense, and if anybody can help, please be specific (as in step 1, do this, step 2, do that.....etc) !!  I see alot of short and sweet answers but I can't make sense of them!!! Many thanks!

I'm trying to follow the instructions for creating a separate iTunes Library but I'm making a big mess of it. I got through steps 1-6 just fine, but step 7 needs to be explained to me in greater detail.  Here's what I need to do....My daughter has some apps that she downloaded.  That is all I need to move to her library.  When I click on Add File to Library or Add Folder to Library, I'm a little confused on what to do next.  I tried copy and pasting from my original library to her new one, but now when I try to open iTunes while holding the shift button so I can select he new library and sync her iPod, it won't open.  Any input would be great!!!!  Thank you...

  • Left Hand/Right Hand Separation in Music Notation

I'm new to GarageBand and am wondering if there is anyway to separate the right hand from the left hand part in music notation. I recorded some piano music into GarageBand using a midi keyboard but the right and left hand parts are sometimes combined. Is there any way to change the direction of the stems for individual notes to separate the right and left hand parts? Thanks!!

I too am new to GB and am somewhat disappointed with the Notation programme. Is there no way that, for instance, notes below middle C can be shown in the treble clef? If not, GB's Music Notation format is of no use to keyboard players as it will show chords - particularly in the left hand - that are physically impossible to play! Is there no way of moving notes between clefs?

  • Keep movies physically separated from music. How?

I'd like to keep my movies on a different separate directory and not just 'in' iTunes *). I can do that by alt-dragging the movies to iTunes. The effect is however that I cannot set any information for those movies, not genre, etc. As a result they show up as one undifferentiated list in Apple TV.
Is there a way around this? Can I have two physical locations for my iTunes stuff?
*) This is because I rsync the library with my MBA for use on the road, but it takes up too much space on the MBA if I include the movies.

On my Apple wireless keyboard, the key is labeled "alt" and has the old Apple option sign.
    ah yes. fair enough.
So one iTunes library can have the music/movies stored in two physical locations? Say, one directory for music and one for movies? How?
you can move selected content to another location by changing +*iTunes media folder location+* (preferences > advanced) to the desired location (an external HD or another internal HD), selecting (highlighting) the content in iTunes, right-clicking, and choosing +consolidate files+.
again, above technique assumes you have the +*copy to+* option enabled. the operation will copy the selection to the location specified earlier. when done, you can delete the original files in order to make room. don't forget to point +*iTunes media folder location+* back to its original settings afterwards.
i haven't tried with movies or tv shows, but there is also a script that can automate the process:
    [_*Re-Locate Selected v1.1*_|http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=relocateselected]
This script will re-locate the files of the selected iTunes tracks from their current location to a new user-chosen folder. iTunes will be updated with each track's new location and all of each track's meta-data will be preserved. Option to remove the files from their original location. (I don't advise using this on more than an album's worth of tracks or so at a time; re-locating dozens of tracks' files to a single folder doesn't seem to make much sense to me.)
NOTE: If your "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" preference set, you will not be able to create new folders in or re-locate files within the iTunes Media folder; outside is OK.

  • Itunes has separated my music by album and by artist

how do I get albums all together? I have tried checking the "compilation" box but it has made no difference.

    Chris CA wrote:
    This is the confusing factor.
iTunes always uses Artist for the folders it is saved to, not Album Artist.
I'm fairly certain when it comes to organizing files, Part of a compilation=Yes puts the album in the Compilations folder and thereafter Album Artist, if set, trumps Artist. If neither are set the value of Unknown Artist is used.
Except for Compilations, whenever Album Artist is blank its value is implied from Artist.
Toggling View > Column Browser > Use Album Artists changes whether the Artists column in the browser shows all the different values of the Artist field or all values of the Album Artist field. It should have no effect on the physical organization of the files.
In a similar fashion View > Column Browser > Group Compilations controls the listing of compilations under a single Compilations artist, or the respective Album Artist of each album, e.g. Various Artists, Original Broadway Cast etc.

  • Separating Classical and Other music in one Library

I am having a real problem in comprehensively separating Classical Music from Other Music such as Jazz and Rock. Is there a good way to do this. Why not just use Genre and Grouping? Well, I use smart folders inside Folders. I find Classical stuff and even pod cast and movies popping up in Folders that are supposed not to contain them. I can see that I can eliminate them byt making elaborate smart folders but this is not very practical for all the albums I have.
If there is someone that has experienced the same and knows how to resolve this. I would appreciate your advise on how to do this.
    Thanks!!!

    Diane,
Thanks, I guess that is the right question and I guess I have been toying with that as it seems so simple. The reason that so far I have not gone down that route is because it will require that I change all the smart folder criteria to first select on Genre and then the other criteria the smart folder is supposed to filter on... but I think that that is simply what I will have to do as all the other alternative are more complicated.
What I now plan to do (also after your question):
Any smart folder in Genre Classical will have the first search criteria as Genre Must contain Classical.
And the second condition will for example be Opera or Easy Listening etc.
When I make a new smart folder I will duplicate one of the previous smart folders and simply rename and change the second condition to shape the new smart folder.
This will require making sure the Genre is correct especially for my old CD imports and I will also have to update manually all smart folders.... doable but I'd rather go and play outside with the kids... so if anyone has a way to automate that boring task or has a better idea, I would appreciate that very much.
    Thanks Diane, Floor

  • Is there a way to access iCloud to find out how much storage space I need to install music on iPhone? Genius Bar was not very helpful...

I have several questions I could not get answered yesterday...
Does the number of songs listed on iPhone represent music available on iPhone or in iCloud.
How do find out how much space of music you have in iCloud you need for iPhone to download all music?
Is there a easier way to get the music available in iCloud downloaded to iPhone without separately downloading each album separately?
Last question...if the music is not downloaded...does it get played at all when on wi-fi?

Both. If you have the setting to "show all music" set to ON you will see all music that is available. If the setting is set to OFF you will only see music that is stored locally on the device.

iTunes Match does not use your iCloud storage.

Music can be downloaded by Album, Artist or Playlist. Or you can disable iTM, sync music via USB, then re-enable the iTM service.

    Yes.

My latest challenge was typing in melodies and chords of songs I'd written on the piano. But using the Musical Typing in register C3 I inserted all the notes by playing on the imac keyboard (and written in the treble clef). The only problem is you cant insert the chords at the same time. Now I have an empty bass clef, which requires chords be inserted in register C2 and I dont know yet how to do that.
To fill in the chords: Join a melody track and a bass track, like this:
    - Create a new software track and record the chords separately with musical typing.
    - Create a new track and copy your melody loops there (just as backup, if something goes wrong)
    - Do the same with the track containing the chords.
    - Then select all loops in the copies of the melody track  and the copy of the chords track and select from the main menu
           Edit -> Join.
Now you should have a track that contains the bass as well as the melody and both staffs should be filled in the track editor, so you can print both at the same time.
However, there will be some notes assigned to the wrong staff - very low melody notes will appear in the bass cleff, very high chord notes will appear in the melody cleff - and I don't see how you could fix that in GB.
    Good luck

  • I have multiple users on one account and now want to split the account.  How do you split and account?

My family and I have used the same account for many years.  We are now looking to create individual accounts and separating the music and other items appropriately.  How do you split an account?

It's not currently possible to split an account, all content will remain tied to the account that originally bought/downloaded it. You can try leaving feedback for Apple, and maybe at some point it will be possible : http://www.apple.com/feedback/

  • CAN YOU RUN 2 IPODS ON ONE COMPUTER

HI. I HAVE JUST BOUGHT A SECOND IPOD NANO 2ND GENERATION. I ALREADY HAVE ITUNES SET UP WITH MUSIC FOR ANOTHER IPOD, BUT MY HUSBAND LIKES TOTALLY DIFFERENT MUSIC TO ME. CAN I HAVE TWO VERSIONS OF ITUNES - OR HOW DO I SEPERATE OUR MUSIC SO IT UPDATES TO THE RIGHT IPOD. TOTAL TECHNOPHOBE HERE - SO ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED!!!

    Hi Canning0508,
    Yes, you can do this.
Probably the easiest method in separating your music to go onto each iPod specifically would be to manage the iPods with their own playlist to sync from in iTunes.

  • Multiple speakers without multiple expresses

Is there a way to have a mac-mini control many speakers with iTunes without the hardware burden and radiation burden of many airport expresses?
I wired up my house with lots of speakers all over the place, and the wires all go to one location. Ideally, I could buy a 12-channel amp, and have a mac mini run all 6 locations, with various iphone and ipod-touches able to control music selection and which zones are on or off.
Is that possible without buying 6 airport expresses? (and they would all be on the same power-brick... kind of a waste of plastic and radiation)
    Thanks!

Not if you want each zone/speaker set to run separately - different music to each zone - no. A Mac mini has only a single stereo out, as does an Airport express, so neither could supply different audio programs to different amplifiers. I don't believe that you could do that even with multiple Airport Express units; I don't think iTunes can stream different streams to different Airports, though I could easily be wrong. If you want multiple zones with each one controllable separately, you'll probably need a much more sophisticated software/hardware setup like the Sonos systems, none of which are probably going to be cheap.

  • Can itunes make a second library?

    Hi..
I have a music library and I make animations. When I make animations I need to listen to sounds from the sound library, but itunes adds these to my main library. As these come in as various names, these are getting confused with my music library. Is there any way of separating my music collection from my film making sounds?
    Anita

To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Option key (or Shift key in Windows) when launching iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. The new library will be empty until you add content to it. You need to close iTunes and open it again while holding down the shift key, this time choose to open an existing library and navigate to your original library: Using multiple iTunes libraries -Mac
