Seperate Home Directories for Windows and Mac OS Mac Clients

Hi,
I have a Mac Mini Server with Snow Leopard 10.6.2, with open directory master set up and then joined to Active Directory and that works fine. The only thing is that I would like the macbooks to log in, and display a home directory that resides on the mac server so they can save their video editting work. So the user has 2 home directories one on windows server one on mac but same user account.
Can this be done at all???

There are a number of approaches you could use? Modifying the AD Schema is one way. This method is generally not considered as a viable one because of the risk of SP updates breaking the modified schema. A popular way is to use the methods outlined by Mike Bombich:

This involves the use of Augmented Records stored in an even lighter LDAP database that 'straddles' (sort of) both directories (AD and OD). Yet another method would be to add redirects via AD GPOs for a home folder that resides in a suitably prepared share on the OD Master. There are still other ways depending on how hard you want to work.
AFAIK you don't want the OD Master in all these scenarios to be the KDC.
There is a wealth of information regarding this which you could google for yourself? AD-OD Integration has been going on for at least 4 years now in form or another all with varying success. How successful the integration is depends (as ever) largely on how well the AD environment has been configured. The most successful integrated sites in my experience involved the AD environment being configured from the outset to accommodate the mac platform.

You might have gotten the Mac version anyways. Assuming you mean Photoshop Elements, your purchase is good for either platform. When you downloaded it might have automatically detected your system and delivered the proper version.
If you have a problem you should be able to get the proper version without having to make any arrangements with Adobe.

Shared home folder for OSX and Windows

I am wondering if it is possible to have a shared home folder for Windows and OSX.
We have an AD and ODS. Is this possible, if it is, using CIFS?

thanks for your answer. unfortunately this does not solve my problem. my sap landscape is more complex.
there are several sap installations in diverent windows domains and some are on as/400 (and there is another windows domain) all are in different networks and are protected by firewall. furthermore there is a rule (maybe some exceptions are allowed) that there must not be qntc connections over these firewalls.
with a shared folder between a windows workstation in one network and an as/400 in another network it works fine. but as a mentioned first - there is the problem with the sapservice<sid> userid which is to long for as/400 environment. I think there must be a tricky solution (hope so).

Use external drive for windows and mac

I just bought a external 320Gb Western Digital Drive. I would like to use
the drive for windows and mac.I will not like to make partation on the drive
to use it on both operating systems. Is there any formating system with which i can use in both operating systems? I would like to use time machine feature on that drive also.

If you want to use a disk for both PC/Mac file storage and Time Machine, you will have to create two partitions. Partitioning is sort of like creating multiple virtual disks on the same physical disk. One partition should be formatted for PC (which the Mac can also use) and the other should be formatted for HFS+ (Mac only) which is what Time Machine requires. The Disk Utility application makes partitioning and formatting very easy.

What Windows OS are you using? Are you networked?
If you are networked, you have to setup your file and print sharing options in order to require password assess. If you are just trying to control specific files from being printed, you can do that, too.
If you are just trying to control the amount of printing off of a single PC with a printer, you could setup different accounts for each user and limit their access.
Some of the commercial printers can have password options, but I do not find any password options for the CM 1410, other than what I provided earlier.
If I have been helpful, a Kudo is always appreciated.

Online backup for Windows and Mac

Is there an online backup service that works with Windows and Mac and lets you use the same login? Meaning, one service, one service to pay and same login? Also, the service shouldn't bill by each desktop (as Mozy does) but instead by overall space needed.
I currently use one service for Windows and another for Mac. I'd like to consolidate everything.

That's always the risk, it's what happened to MediaMax (though in their case it was technical incompetence). They've been around for at least a year, but I can't offer any guarantees, obviously.

You can either use Office for Mac 2011 or use Boot Camp to run Windows or use a VM, such as Parallels Desktop to run Windows. Running Windows, you'd be able to use MS Office for Windows.

Can I have a Single Licence for Windows and Mac?

I have PS CS4 for Windows installed on my desktop computer. I have recently bought a MacBook Pro. Can I install PS on my new laptop using my Windows licence or must I buy another licence.

If you have a windows clone software installed, then it should be fine. But if you want the mac version of photoshop, then normally you would buy the CS4 photoshop for Mac as the CD version comes with only 1 license for 1 platform.
However, since CS4 is not the current version you could subscribe to the cloud and that license is for Windows and Mac.
