Seperate photo libraries

I'd like to use seperate libraries on my computer for photos. I use a file folder to sync with. Is there any way to do this even on my own computer?
Also, does anybody know of a way to update the photos without using the automatic setting? I heard a rumor of a manual setting, but only rumors and no actual method of doing it.

i've tried draggin photos over into the ipod window, but it def doesn't work. the only way i've found(doesn't mean it IS the only way) is to auto sync certain folders to load onto it. i don't know how iphoto works, but maybe copy photos that you want to a new "pics" folder to use for syncing with your ipod, then you can choose which folders to load. you can always use the ipod as a disc and copy pics onto it as if its a usb drive or something, but you won't be able to see them on the ipod.

  • Sharing Photo Libraries on one computer with two accounts

I have two accounts on my Mac Mini, OS 10.7.5 and have enabled photo sharing in both. However the second account, my wife's doesn't show the photo libraries I'm trying to share. Any thoughts please

Photo sharing works only between different computers, not for accounts on the same machine.
On the same computer you can give your wife direct access to your libraries, like described here:
iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users
Or if your Mac MIni can be upgraded to a system that supports iCloud, you can share selected albums as Shared PhotoStreams: See iCloud: Using and troubleshooting Shared Photo Streams

  • My wife and I have separate user accounts but want to share our Photos libraries or merge them as one.  How do I do this?

My wife and I just bought an MBP (mid-2014 version) with Retina display and have separate user accounts with Admin. privileges.
We want to share our Photos libraries or merge them as one.  How do we do this?  IS it better to just have one account instead?

iTunes- How to share music between different user accounts on a single computer
You cannot merge two separate libraries across user accounts. Photos does not have the function of merging different Photos.library files. If you have Aperture then you can merge the two before migrating over to Photos.

  • Is it possible to store seperates iTunes libraries on the same computer

My partner and I both have iPhones, iPads etc but enjoy different music. We only have 1 pc. Is it possible to have 2 seperates iTunes libraries run by the same computer? Our library is currently on an external hard drive but I would also like to know if it would be possible to run an additional library from the computers in built hard drive?

Yes, you can have multiple libraries on a computer.  A neat route is to create an account for each library, that way the standard locations can be maintained.
By default a new library will be created on your computer internal drive - you can treat the external hard drive as a source and copy the Song files to the new iTunes Music folder, once copy is complete use Add Folder from the file menu to load the Songs into the new iTunes library.

  • Why do I have two photo libraries?

    I found two photos libraries:
I have one on my imac in the "pictures folder" and I also have one on my external drive.
All I have done so far is import over my aperture library and re-arranged the projects.
Both have the same time stamp today at 3:59pm and both will change this time stamp when I open the program.
The one in the "pictures folder" reads 11.3gb
The one on the external reads 17.17 gb
    Why is there two?
Also: how do you use the photos app  to display as the screen saver?
I use outlook and it does not work as email either.
When you share a photo to the desktop from the program it will default to full screen regardless of what your settings are in system preferences. Any fix for this?
    Thanks

    Mistake on below:
It is 11.3 MB compared to 17.17GB
The one in the "pictures folder" reads 11.3gb
The one on the external reads 17.17 gb

  • XMP metadata for Photo Libraries

I demo lightroom at shows for Adobe and one of the constant gripes I get, and spend a long time trying to convince punters I have no answer for, is that Lightroom doesn't interact at all well with some of the software that photo libraries use. I have never had any exposure to such applications, but I recall one being called Photo Suite.
Apparently the problem is metadata captions do not travel well from Lightroom back to these Photo Library apps. So I have just had a load of photographers over the last few days come to me complaining that they have captioned images in Lightroom, but the captions have not been captured in such a way that they can be read by these library apps.
Can anybody make this happen for these people supplying photos to the libraries, because I feel that suppliers are a little hesitant to use Lightroom fully unless it improves. I can't shed much more light on it than this as I have no experience of any Photo Library software.

I'm not so sure that a lot of image libraries are prepared to ditch their library software. My understanding of it is that the photographers who have the library software - and there seems to be a number of them - are being forced to use the image library software by the image library they are submitting their shots to. If captions aren't being retained, then the shots they are submitting are being rejected by the libraries which is obviously causing a loss of income. Something that causes me a loss of income doesn't get used.
So, by the lack of communication and updating of captions between the apps, photographers are being held back, and I get the feeling the photographers would very much like to use LR and know it is without fail compatible with the image library software.
These captions and changes are apparently being recognised by PSCS3, but not lightroom, so where does the fault lie?

  • I have a problem when updated the new release of iphoto version(11 jun 2012). After that I cannot open any photo libraries and program is error.

I have a problem when updated the new release of iphoto version(11 jun 2012). After that I cannot open any photo libraries and program is error. I must to force quit iphoto window. There are any fixed bug update.

    If you have no photos:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library' and start.

What version of iPhoto? Do yuo hae Aperature 3.3? With iPhoto 9.3 and Aperature 3.3 you can merge iPhoto libraries - you also can do it with the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -

  • Should I merge or split photo libraries- seeking opinions

I am seeking input on how to organize my photo libraries. I primarily use iPHOTO, but I do own Aperture. I keep a current iPHOTO library on my Macbook SSD. Due to space constraints, I have created several libraries over the years and offloaded those onto external hard drives.
    So, for example:
I have iPHOTO 2015 on my laptop,
but on external drives I have these 3 iPHOTO libraries: 2104, 2012-2013, 2009 - 2011 (all as "managed" iPHOTO libraries) and
an Aperture library 1940-2009 (a "referenced" library - which includes scans of all my dad's old slides, as well as all my pre-iPhoto pictures.)
Each of these libraries is in the range of 60 -120GB in size. Right now these are scattered over 2 drives, and I want clear plan before I start moving everything to a new 2TB ext drive.
I can't seem to decide if I should merge all my external libraries in Aperture, or if I should continue to keep separate iPHOTO libraries.
Or perhaps just keep the current year on my laptop and then at the end of each year add it to one gigunda external library.
No matter what -  I will want at least the current years photos on the laptop drive.
So basically those of you with more experience - what are your thoughts??
    I have a 2014 15" MacbookPro, Yosemite OS, with 500 GB SSD (<120GB remaining)

The best is to have a single iphoto libray
You want to have a smaller library on your MBP too so do that and use iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  to move photos between the single complete library and the portable one on your MBP

Correct. You don't use iTunes to get photos off the iPhone.

  • All my photo libraries in my iPhone have duplicate photos since I have installed IOS 6.  Please help.

All my photo libraries in my iPhone have duplicate photos since I have installed IOS 6. I work with Aperture 3.3 not iPhoto! Also, most of the photos in my camera library have been deleted without my consent! I'm very ****** about that! Please help.

Photos in Photo Library are the ones that you've synced from your iTunes to your iPad. To free up space, you should delete these photos on your Photo Library since you already have the copies on your computer: Connect your iPad with your computer > Launch iTunes > click your iPad and navigate to Photos window > check Sync Photos from > select an empty folder and click Apply to carry out the syncing. After then, all photos in your Photo Library will be deleted.
As for photos in Camera Roll on your iPad, you should copy them to your computer for backup and deleted the copies on your iPad:Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC - Apple Support

  • Why do I have 2 photos libraries?

    Hi,
After updating to OS X 10.10.3, my iPhoto library seemed to have converted without any hick-ups into its Photos counterpart. But inside my Users/~/Pictures folder I now have 2 separate Photos libraries. One named "Photos Library.photoslibrary" the other named "Photos Library 2.photoslibrary". One is about 3 GB bigger than the other.
    How come? Please help.

    Hi Morun,
I ended up deleting my (slightly) older library and so far no problems. Both library files clearly seemed to be two versions of the same library (save for a few more photos in the newer one) as my HDD storage did not increase by the size of the older library after I emptied the Trash.

  • Best way to handle mobile accounts with large itunes/photo libraries

What is the best way to handle mobile accounts, but not syncing itunes/photos libraries?
I have a time capsule so I can move itunes and photos libraries for each user if need be.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I've done a great deal of work with mobile accounts in Snow Leopard and I'm now having a "play" with Lion. To be honest you have to sit down and think about why you need mobile accounts.
If your user only uses one computer then your safer having a local account backed up by a network Time Machine, this avoids the many many woes that the Servers FileSyncAgent brings to the table.
If your users are going to be accessing multiple computers on the network and leaving the network then a mobile account is good for providing a uniform user experience and access to files etc. However, your users will have to make a choice as to whether they want their iPhoto libraries on one Local machine (backed up by Time Machine) or whether they want their library to be hosted on the server and not part of the Mobile Home Sync schedule (adding ~/Pictures to the excluded items on the home sync settings).
With the latter, users will be able to access their iPhoto libraries on any computer when they are within the network (as it's accessed from the users server home folder).
With the first option the user would have their iPhoto library on one computer (say the laptop they used the most) but then would not be able to access it from other computers they log on to.
iPhoto libraries are a pain, and I'm working hard to come up with a workaround. If your users moved over to using Apeture then you could include the aperture library as part of the home sync thanks to Deeport (http://deepport.net/archives/os-x-portable-home-directories-and-syncing-flaw-wit h-bundles/)
He does suggest that the same would work with IPhoto libraries - but it doesn't for a number of mysterious reasons regarding how the OS recognizes thie iPhoto bundle (it does so differently compared to Apeture).
    Hope this helps...

  • Iphot and Photos libraries taking all my disc space

I have installed Photos but now seem to have 2 photo libraries on my Laptop - iPhoto and photos. Seeing as I have a small SSD and a large collection of pictures can I safely delete one library to recover some disc space?

If you migrated the iPhoto Library to Photos, then it should not be using any more space than before, even though it may appear to be. Look at your disk space used and compare it to what you had before. As long as you don't do anything to break the links between the 2 libraries, then they shouldn't take up extra space.
Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support
