    I have installed the youtube app. But i hate it so much i just want my old youtube back.  How can i undo my software update?

    @doclochte
    Well, if you loose functionality und good user experience due to apples and googles quarrels its simply not a matter of bugfixing. If you want to get rid of googles services (Maps, Youtube) you should at least make shure, the user experience stays the same. Without the youtube app custom made for easy iPad use, you need to buy an app to at least get fullscreen view but with a much more complicated navigation (iCabMobile for example). And GoogleMaps is right now still the far better service.
    If google lets me use programs for free (to make advertisements) I'm ok with a beta. If I buy a very expensive apple device I'm definitely NOT ok with this, especially when I'm forbidden to revert to what I had before. PLease let me downgrade to 5.1.1 again at least.

    Really?
    Is there no other option? No magic key combo that brings up a secret menu?
    My imac just froze during a software update install and I too do not know what to do.

    There shouldn't be any problem but, if you are worried, do a backup before the update.

  • Already miss YouTube and a good map app., Already miss YouTube and a good map app.

    I upgraded my iPad 2 to IOS 6 yesterday.  I had watched the WWCD in June, and have waited with eager anticipation for the release of the new IOS.  Of course, I knew that the Siri function was not going to be available on the iPad 2, and I new the Google maps app would be replace with the new Apple maps.  I was not concerned, because Apple has NEVER been known for offering a lesser product to its loyal customer base.
    However, within the first 24 hours after the upgrade, I have been diappointed and wish I had stayed with IOS 5.  First of all, there was a promise of over 200 new features in the new IOS but all I got was a new clock app.  I realize that the iCloud capabilities have been improved also, but that was not a big concern for me.  Second, the new Apple Maps app is an archaic step backwards.  It has been over a decade since I saw a mapping service that was so devoid of features.  The cartoonish 3-D is not a benefit.  The lack of POI's, and the detailed data is woefully missing.  I am shocked that Apple would release something that was not better than what we had to begin with.  I feel certain that time will permit it to catch up to the Google quality, but what do we do in the mean time?  I guess we pray that Google will quickly design an IOS 6 compatible app.
    Lastly, I just discovered that YouTube is no longer available on the iPad.  Why?  Again, Apple has not offered a "better" solution, they simply took away a widely used app.  Yes, there are work arounds, but key features of the app, like Airplay, are no longer avaible.  Going to YouTube in the browser does not permit Airplay (I tried it).  Yes, Google has already released an app for the iPhone, but they have not for the iPad.  The iPhone app works on the iPad, but it too lacks the features of a full iPad app.
    I do not know if Apple representatives ever read any of these community comments.  If so, I would urge Apple to maintain the course set by Jobs.  While he was at the helm, new products or OS releases were not infererior to the previous.  I know that Cook will also do a great job.  However, do not permit the desire to release something "new," cause you throw care to the wind and release products that are not worthy of the Apple name.

    You are correct about Steve's desire to eliminate Google.  However, the philosophy has been to offer a "Better" product and/or user experience as the result of an upgrade.  Yet, this upgrade fall short of a "better" experience on the iPad 2.  It stripped two vital apps and adding nothing to replace one (i.e., YouTube), and grossly inferior one on the other (i.e., Maps).  Hardly any of the new features of IOS 6 are available on the iPad 2.  This update should have been restricted from the iPad 2.  The Apple Maps app should have not made this release at all.  They should have waited until it at least was comparable to Google.  The Apple Maps is useless for me, but I use Google maps always.  This is my first diappointment with Apple.  However, I feel certain that Maps will eventually be improved.

    That is awesome, works perfectly.
    I'll get it worked into my main script. Is this Action Manager code, and not just regular Javascript from the Scripting Dictionary? I can't tell the difference. I'll see whether or not it's actually faster than Applescript.
    Thanks. I know Scripting Listener records a bunch of stuff, but it's pretty amazing to me that playing back this line does the same thing that playing back the 1,011 lines Scripting Listener puts out.
    Thanks.

  • Updated iphone 4 now battery draining and constantly have no service on my phone I have just had my phone repair after havin water damage so I am disgusted for this to happen now, want to know if there is a solution to this.?

    Recently updated iphone 4 now have no service or always searching I appear to get signal sometimes but one bar and weak 3G but this will go within a minute so is useless I am joy using my phone as much due to this so start off day with 100% to come to find my phone at the end of the day with 14% this is usually not the case as I do not have to charge it as often as I am I am disappointed with apple and want a solution does anyone have any ideas ????

    Reset network settings.  Settings => General => Reset => Reset Network settings.  You will have to log back into any Wifi network you had saved on your phone. It will also make sure you are connecting to the nearest cell tower.
    Reset phone, hold down both Home and Sleep/Wake buttons and continue hold them down until the Apple logo appears on screen.
    Reset All Settings. Settings => General => Reset => Reset All Settings.  You won't lose any data or content, but you will have to go into settings and turn on or off anything you have previously turned on or off.
    Run the battery all the way down to the point where the phone will not turn back on.  Recharge the phone overnight using a wall charger, not a USB port on your computer.

  • I updated my iPhone to 6.0 and lost a lot of my pics how do I get them back?

    I updated my iPhone to 6.0 and now pictures I took last night are missing!!! I already have a iCloud I'd.... How can I get them back??

    Many users have lost photos while preforming a restore from backup or upgrading the iOS.  There are no solutions to this in most cases.
    Photos should be regularly synced to a computer (like you store photos from a digital camera) using either USB via iTunes (on a mac use iPhoto or Aperture to move them to an album) or using photo stream.  If you have been doing that, then you can sync those photos back to your device.
    If you haven't been saving photos except relying on iCloud to store them in a backup, then that is risky, as many users have discovered.  I'm afraid I have no advice in this case - there is no "cure".

  • Critical Microsoft security update this am, now missing 1.5 mos emails

    When I started up the MacBook Pro this morning there was a message to install a critical security update for Office/Outlook 2011.  I started the download and closed all programs (except finder).  The update completed successfully.  When I restarted Outlook 2011, I found that the last month and a half of email messages I had saved, including responses still in my sent items folder, as well as yet unprocessed inbox items going back a week or so...all had vanished.  Iʻve spent most of this afternoon searching apple and microsoft support discussion groups for clues, finding nothing definitive.  It turns out there are FOUR identity files: main identity, main identity backup 11/1/11, 11/1/11 identity, and 11/1/11 identity backup. If I recall correctly, there was an Outlook data problem in late October, and at that time I found a Microsoft knowledge base article that led me through the steps of creating the 11/1/11 identity.  Having found the folder containing all identity files, Iʻm not sure what to do with each; thereʻs only me and I only want one.  Ideally, I could rebuild each one, then export data from each one; then set the 11/1/11 identity as default; then open Outlook and import the exported data files into this identity one by one...using a setting option to not import duplicates.  HOWEVER, in previous years on Windows computers I did exactly this filtered importing into Outlook but dupes (and sometimes, triplicates) were created regardless.  The chore of manually deleting the dupes takes hours and is mind-numbing; I donʻt want to have to do this again!  So Iʻm gunshy.  I hope thereʻs a more experienced and technically informed user who can guide me to the least time-consuming solution.  By the way, apple support could not assist me with the file structure/location(s) for Microsoft Office Outlook on the Mac.  In order to run a backup of last nightʻs shutdown Outlook data file from time machine, I need to know the filename and the file location path.  Iʻm reluctant to phone Microsoft support, wait in line, and have to pay $60 plus for this information.

    Yes, I had (eventually) done that yesterday.  The final solution was to forward to myself the inbox items in each of two nonprimary identities (they came in while I was exploring to "map the territory" yesterday), immediately shutting down Outlook and changing to the next identity so no further current emails would be download to my MacBook Pro (this step was not documented anywhere on apple or microsoft support, I just tried it and it worked).  I had located the identity files location, and determined which identity was my most recent primary one.  Since the one on my computer had been corrupted by the security update, I located the last backup before shutting down the night before on Time Machine, restored it, and set it as default.  Then I deleted all the "bad" identities to avoid confusion in the future.  Upon restarting Outlook, my two "transport" emails downloaded from my third party spam filter server.  I opened each, reviewed the attached emails, and moved the ones I wanted to examine further to the inbox on my computer.  Then I deleted these two "transport" emails.  There may be a few incoming emails from early yesterday morning that I have lost permanently, but by and large I have recovered all of my data, including what had been the missing 1 1/2 monthsʻ worth, via this somewhat trial-and-error, very time-consuming procedure.

  • Updated Categories API now missing categoryTypeId

    I'd be very interested to understand why the BC development team has suddenly removed the categoryTypeId field from the API results.
    I applaud the new update/delete capabilities, but this field removal has thrown a spanner in my works.
    Basically, the CategoryTypeId field indicated the "level" of a particular category in BC. (42= Level1, 43=Level2, 140=Level3, etc.)
    (As an aside, I'd be curious as to why 42, 43 and 140 were chosen as opposed to say, 1,2,3... but I digress.)
    Anyway, I was using that CategoryTypeId field to create a set of "cascading" category selects as shown below:
    (i.e., You select a directory from the first select and the second select appears containing the next level of categories filtered for that directory selection, and so on.)
    {module_data resource="categories" version="v3" collection="directories" template="" where="\{'categoryTypeId':'42'\}" }
    {module_data resource="categories" version="v3" collection="categories" template="" where="\{'categoryTypeId':'43'\}" }
    {module_data resource="categories" version="v3" collection="subcategories" template="" where="\{'categoryTypeId':'140'\}" }
    I wrote a JS function that does the showing and hiding of the filtered results from the prior selection.
    My big problem is that today's update has removed that field.  Assuming that there is now no way to put this back in, I would love an explanation as to why this was removed, as this has caused me to suddenly have to re-architect a key component of the site's UI.
    In addition, I would also appreciate any insights as to how this might be accomplished some other way (easily?) using the remaining fields and/or {categorylist}
    Thanks,
    -- Bruce

    Hi Bruce,
    I am really sorry for this bug. We are going to reintroduce that field tomorrow till end of day. I do not know how the values where chosen for categoryTypeId but this another issue.
    Again, I apologize for this issue.
    Regards,
    Radu

  • Updated my Iphone, now pictures, texts and apps are gone from phone. Can i get them back? please help!

    I sync'd it yesterday and today, then when updating it today its restored to factory settings and all apps, photos and texts have gone. looked in the i tunes library and in windows explorer (tells me last sync was 3 months ago!) to no avail. now when i try to restore it on itunes a box appears with there was an interruption with restore then a new box with the message restore error. any help greatly appreciated

    "Any hope?"
    There was if you used any of the backup strategies you listed in your first sentence. iTunes functions as the backup software for your iOS device. MobileMe similarly aacts as a backup if you need to restore your phone.
    Since you chose to work without a safety net, it would seem you have lost all the contacts. That was a risk level you were comfortable enough with. The important take away here is that all computers need to be backed up. And there is more computer in your iPhone than the computers that flew a space ship to the moon.

  • Performed update...Now iTunes gone and can't download

    Hello,
    I recently performed the standard updates, and afterward, iTunes no longer would open and since then I haven't been able to download, not only iTunes, but any downloads at all.
    My music folder is still there, but nothing i've tried has resolved the download issue.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    It was the new version of iTunes, Quicktime, and security update. Afterwards, when I went to open iTunes it gave the message "cannot open iTunes because it does not exist". Security update seemed to go fine. I tried deleting iTunes completely and downloading it from apple, but as I said before, I can't download anything at this point.
    I've also noticed that the computer won't restart or shut-down; the trash won't open; System Preferences won't open: "About this Mac" won't open; etc. etc.
    Thanks again
