Sequence frame size/black border

I created several sequences in Final Cut Pro 4, which all seem to have the same settings, but some of them have a black border around the picture and a smaller picture size. When I export a Quick Time Movie of the sequence, the boarder still exists in iDVD.
How do I make the picture fill the entire frame?
My footage was filmed on Mini DV.
My clip and sequence settings are: 29.97 fps (video rate), 720x480 (frame size), DV/DVC Pro (compressor), NTSC - CCIR 601 (pixel aspect) 48.00 KHz (audio rate)
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Hey Cala
As you say, when you set your sequence as JPEG accidently, and keeping the aspect ratio and everything as you say, it shouldn't have to reduce your frame size of your media.
Have you tried to make a new sequence with the preset settings for DV and put the referred clip on it? It should present it normally, filling all the frame.
Checking on your screenshot, it seems to present it as if it were capture it like Photo-JPEG Offline edit. It is the same way appears the clips when are captured with that setting on a DV preset sequence.
I don't know how much problem would be to recapturing that clip again, before put your sequence settings on the preset for DV, as the same for the Capture preset. Then, it must work all fine.
About the configuration between Panther 3.9, QT 6.5 and FCP 4.5, in my case never have appeared some situation like this one. Even on Tiger-QT7-FCP 5.
This is so odd. I can only think on recapturing checking all the presets pointing in DV/DVCPRO NTSC. Hope it works! (It ought to be)
Best regards!

  • Adjusting frame size or Border size based on user parameter

    Hi,
I'm using Oracle 10g developerr suite and working on Oracle reports. I've a requirement to change the frames in the report dynamically based on user parameter value. The same if possible I want to try with report border also.
If anyone have came across this kind of requirement could you please advise how can I proceed on this or Suggest first of all whether is it possible to achieve this requirement.
    Anyone please suggest your views.
    Thanks,
    Subu

There is another way to change the frame automatically
this can be done by horizontally elasticity and vertical elasticity properties to the frame, You can set them as variable or expand to make them elastic due to the data

  • Advice on sequence settings - frame size for VHS video in FCP

    Hello,
I was hoping that I could get some advice on editing and output for video captured from VHS Tapes to ensure the best quality possible.
My current workflow to digitize the VHS tapes is:
VHS signal from JVC S7600u with TBC into ADVC 300 (no de-interlace or other filters set) into a Mac Pro via firewire.  Capture preset in FCP is DV NTSC 48khz.
Once in FCP - the captured VHS video frame size is 720 X 480, Vid rate is 29.97, pixel aspect is NTSC-CCIR 601 and field dominance is lower (even)
    My questions are:
If my final destination is for You Tube sharing , are these the best sequence/ frame size settings or should I convert the sequence frame size to 640 X 480, or should I leave at 720 X 480 while working in FCP and then output to Compressor and select the H264 you tube sharing video setting and change the frame size to 640 X 480?
Should I de- interlace for internet/youtube destination?
    Should I de-interlace for DVD/TV destination?
If I want to burn the finished project to DVD and watch the video on a progressive montitor/ TV screen, what would be the best settings/frame size for that?
If any of you out there have experience with editing vcr/analog video in FCP and have a good workflow to ensure best quality, I would really appreciate  any advice/suggestions.
    Thanks in advance.

Digitize to 720X480 frame size in FCP. In compressor, your YouTube preset will automatically deinterlace and a square pixel aspect ratio. No deinterlacing for DVD.

  • Black border around video!

I want to upload my video to youtube but it has a massive black border around it. Can someone explain step by step how to get rid of this please. I know it has something to do with the scale but i am relatively new using cs5 and have no idea! please help

    Welcome to the forum.
Black borders are usually caused by a mis-match with the Source Footage and the Sequence, or with the Export settings.
Can you please let us know the full details of your Source Footage, and your Sequence Frame Size, and also your Ecport settings?
Good luck, and thank you for that info.

  • Changing a title frame size?

I have a client that wanted their final product exported at 1920x1080 but now want it changed to 1280x720. I will be doing more work in the futrue with this client, so I made templates. The templates are all set to 1920x1080. Is there and easy way to change the titles sequences and regular sequences' frame size. Or do I have to start over and make a template that is 1280x720?
Any guidence will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Maybe I'm missing something but why not simply render your 1920x1080 sequence to 1280x720?  Or copy your timeline to a 1280x720 sequence and scale to fit.  I must be missing something.

  • Dropping larger video frame sizes into timeline at 100%

In FCP6.0, I'd like to drop a 448x252 video onto a Sequence set at 320x240, but I want the larger original video to remain at 100% scale. By default FCP will reduce the size of the larger video to fit (~70%). I can easily set it back by setting the Scale back to 100% in the Motion Tab. But that forces yet another render.
Is there a way to tell FCP to drop in a larger video without reducing the scale to fit? I've already unchecked "Always scale clips to sequence size", and set Auto Conform Sequence to NEVER, but it seems to make no difference. Am I missing something obvious?

I'm fairly certain that those new-to-FCP 6 settings that you speak of are only for clips smaller than the sequence frame size.
Larger clips will always be scaled to fit into a sequence.

  • Black border around jpegs even tho frame size set right

    Hi
Can a friendly soul please tell me why my images are not the same width as my video footage.
The project is set to "standard" at 720 by 576.
When I set up the image prior to importing to CS3 i make sure they are the same 720 by 576.
Yet after theyve been imported i get a virtical black border around the left and right side. the pic is too narrow.
Experimenting with the sizes before import it seems 769 by 576 is about the right size.
But now the image (its a movie title) moves ever so slightly as i play the timeline. Its the first clip in the project.
Images are created in photoshop and then saved as Jpegs.
Video footage is DV PAL quality filmed on a Sony pd150 camcorder (this is a GREAT bit of kit btw)
    thanks in advance

  • FCP- DVDSP sequence settings. frame size

Question of sequence settings. when making a DVD, will the sequence setting, Frame size make a difference?
We are just starting to edit a documentary, which uses alot of still photos and graphics. The rest of the video is shot on DV. I have tried laying still photos on the DV sequence, but it looks like still photos look really compressed and blurry. Not so good quality wise. If I set it to CCIR 601-NTSC, the photos look super good. We are NOT outputting any digi-beta uncompressed, but only to DVD.
I am editing sequence in NTSC DV, but thinking of just before getting outputting with compressor, I am thinking of changing to uncompressed sequence CCIR 601-NTSC, and then compress it to MPEG2. (doing this later so that i can do alot of edits RealTime and worry about picture quality later) of course the picture size does get smaller... I don't really know the effect of this on a teleframed television.
Will that make a difference? Seems that if I go through DVcompression AND MPEG2 compression, both, is more compression than MPEG2 compression itself. Is there a site that talks about it?
    Thanks in advance.
    Lost

I only have "a bit" of experience working with stills in a DV sequence. But one thought concerns how you are integrating the stills and the video. I assume you are going to pretty much intermix the stills and the video and audio (interviews or whatever) that may go with video and stills.
The DVD format, of course, supports stills as a slide show directly, but this will not accomplish the intermix very effectively.
As far as size-quality, you may want to import the stills are larger than DV image size and then pan across them, etc.
At the end of the day, to achieve a seamless edit job, you are probably going to need to have all the stills sitting on a regular DV timeline for export / encoding to MPEG2.
I honestly do not put much stock in the differences between viewer and canvas. I always use an external NTSC monitor to judge the final appearance. I started with a cheap TV and recently upgrade to a nice JVC production monitor. This is the real measure of the final video, in my experience.

  • How do I set custom frame size in Premiere Pro 5.5 sequence.

I need to set a custom frame size in Premiere Pro 5.5.
I can't edit a preset so how do I create my own?

If you realy feel 'lazy' or have no idea what settings to choose you can drag the clip the into the New Item icon. This will create a matching sequence.

  • Sequence Settings Frame Size, LIMIT?

I want to export a sequence that's 1080x5760. Essentially 3 1080p screens right next to each other. Every time I enter this custom setting into the frame size of my sequence, I get a 4000 limit for both height and width. Shouldn't FCP be able to handle this size? Is it limited by my GPU?

FCP currently does not support anything over 4K.

  • Importing PPT files in PAL sequence...can't adjust frame size

i've been working on DV PAL sequences with imported powerpoint
files. I'm very disapointed with the result (it bleeds and is pixelised) and noticed that the .jpeg frame sizes i imported are either 720 * 540 or 960*720 ( i tried converting through power point on 2 different Computers, one Mac, one PC).
I can't seem to change the frame size when converting the slides in PPT.
Could that be why the end result is so disapointing and does anybody know if adjusting the frame size is possible in PPT?
    Thanks for your help.
    Tee.

    Thanks Kevin for your suggestions.
Good idea but i just have too many slides to import, and won't be needing to highlight them. They're mostly used in split screens, which makes the plain old PPT slides less boring.
I've read many posts, and do understand that PPT in FCP just doesn't yield satisfying results, but my results really bleeds, and i wanted to make sure i had all the settings working at my advantage.
As i stated earlier, I noticed my imported JPEGs were 720x540 while my sequence is PAL Anamorphic.
I finaly figured out how to change the PPT export settings that seemed to have constrained proportions on frame size, and blocked for NTSC settings. Changing the "page set up" i could then get 720 * 576 (or more of course).
    I then Save as->Jpeg->no compression
But the result is still as bad, even with higher dpis.
The Grab solution also gives me the bleeding.
It of course looks a lot better on the TV i use as an external monitor, but end edit is to be viewed on computers.
That is probably what my question should be. How can i get the best possible results importing a 4:3 slide in an anamorphic sequence, destined for computer screen viewing...
    Thanks for your time.

  • SEQUENCE SETTINGS CS6  ( CAN'T CHANGE VIDEO SIZE OR frame size  )

    Wow
I am a big fan of Adobe, but this i don't understand. Why can't you cahnge the sequence settiings in CS6. The sequence settings such as video frame size, and frame rate ae graded out. This makes it very hard when dealing with proxies. I am guessing they took this feature out because of the warp stabilizer. They should give you the option to be able to choose between warp stabilizer and sequence settings. If anyone knows how to fix this, Please help!

PP has long fixed the Sequence settings once they're created.  The standard method of dealing with this is to create a new sequence and simply Copy/Paste all the clips from old to new.

  • Help! Trying to change frame size of project/sequence

I have tried everything I can to change my project's frame size to 320 x 240 from 720 x 480--modifying sequence settings (nowhere to change size, just "timeline options" and "render control" tabs), clicking on the sequence's frame size in the browser (even with option and command), going into user preferences, system preferences, item properties, project properties without any dialog box that will help me make the change. I checked off "Prompt for seeings on New Project/Sequence" in User Preferences, but it only gives me a pop-up menu with the Easy Setup options. What's happening? This is taking me forever to figure this out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi Bob,
Why do you want a project at 640 X 480 ? You will not be able to print it to your camcorder.
Just put those values in quicktime conversion box, and your exported movie will has this frame size.
May be the confusion become from the aspect ratio of pixel...
DV pixel are displayed "as square pixels" in Final Cut Express, if you uncheck this option in viewer, you will get a horizontal squashed image.
That's because TV set do not handle pixel like computer monitor and your camcorder record it with this aspect.
So don't be concern with the 720 or 640 question: just export your movie using quicktime conversion set to 640X480 for viewing on computer (like I suggest earlier) or simply "print to tape" from FCE to your camcorder (with stretched pixel for TV monitoring).

  • Changing the frame size of a Quicktime image sequence

I need to create an image sequence of a short piece of video. I know how to make an image sequence using the Quicktime conversion, but I can't get it to export in widescreen 1920 x 1080. It keeps exporting the frame size of the images as 1440 x 1080. How to you change the frame size?

the original clip has a frame size of 1440 x1080 hence that is how it exports ... you must set the pixel aspect ratio in your image processing app to 1440x1080 then the footage should appear normal.
(in Photoshop that's the HDV Widescreen 1.333 pixel aspect ratio setting)
edit: or you could export a tiff image sequence using compressor and do the resize in there
