Sequence Length in Audition CC

When I send a sequence from PPro CC, the scale of the sequence displayed in the sequence reflects the greatest length of the sequence in PPro at any time during the edit. For example: At one point the video sequence was 60 minutes long, but I have cut it down to 5 minutes, locked picture, and now I "edit in Audition." Now the timeline in Audition is 60 minutes long, with a little bitty 5-minute patch of clips over on the left.
Is there any way to make Audition trim the empty space at the end? Like force-setting the end of the sequence?

The quickest method to "reset" the view in Audition would be to click the "Zoom Out Full Both Axes" button, located at the top-right corner of the Editor window:

  • Sequence length in browser varies from sequence length in timeline

    We made a 3 hour movie using FCE and split the overall movie into two sequences, one 1h50m and the other 1h, to allow these to be burned to DVDs. While we successfully exported the 1h sequence to Quicktime and then imported and burned using iDVD, the original sequence is still showing too large (2h50m) in the browser and the Quicktime file even though it shows as 1h50m in the timeline.
    We have tried to cut it and paste to a new project but it appears to remember the original sequence length in the browser even if again the timeline length shows 1h50m.
    I have emptied trash etc to see if that would help but without success.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    If you didn't do it yet, you should change the browser view to View as List (View/Browser Items/As List). This will list all possible parameters associated with all your items in the browser and namely with your sequence The Cafe.
    Now you can read its Duration, In and Out positions (these 2 will be likely "not set") and many other infos.
    What is its Duration ? it should be exactly 1:35:04 as you read in the timeline.
    In which field of the browser you read 21 associated with The Cafe sequence ?
    The Type field contains "Sequence" as it is supposed to be ? (if not yet visible: 1st enlarge the browser window, 2nd right click on any field label and select the Type field from the contextual menu - a new colomn will appear with Types)
    With these infos it'll be easier to find what to do.

  • Premiere CC Sequence length not automatically changing to last asset content.

    For some reason my Premiere CC sequence is stuck at 12 minutes while the actual length of my assets is only 2.5 minutes. It's not automatically resizing to the location of the last asset on the timeline. What might be going on?

    Where are you seeing the sequence duration reported as 12 minutes. The screenshot you posted gives no indication of duration. Please post another that shows the Program Monitor +/or the Project panel (with the Media Duration and Video Duration columns visible).
    Edited to add: Okay, I think I see what has you confused: the Timeline extends to about 12 minutes. That has nothing to do with the sequence's duration. It's basically a function of the zoom level. If you press the minus key a few times, the Timeline will zoom out farther still.
    To check the actual duration, check the time shown at the lower right corner of the Program Monitor. Note that if In/Out points are set in the sequence, the duration shown in the Program Monitor reflects the trimmed duration. If you want to see the full, untrimmed duration, either clear the In/Out points or consult the Media Duration column in the Project panel.

  • Edit in Audition, sequence huge!

    I've been working on several 2-3 minute sequences in Premiere. Each contain a few clips and stereo audio track. To master the track in Audition I've been selecting Edit -> Edit in Audtion -> Sequence, and select from the PopUp "Work Area".
    My expectation would be that only the exact length of the edit, indicated at the top with the orange IN/OUT points of the work area would then create a sequence of equal length in Audition. It does not. What I get is a sequence about 5hrs long, which I have to zoom WAY into in order to see the sliver that is the 1:30 piece of audio.
    Also feel like there was a time when it did to this but since starting this project I know I've run at least one update on the applications - maybe something changed?
    Am I not understanding the workflow here or maybe I don't have the work area properly selected?
    Thanks,
    Stephen

    There are little "brackets," at control the IN & OUT Points for the WAB, but, as Jim states, they are separate from the Sequence's IN & OUT Points.
    By default, as one adds Clips to the Timeline, the WAB expands to include those. However, the WAB IN & OUT Points can then be set, independently from any IN & OUT Points for the Sequence. Once the WAB has been set, it will no longer "grow" to include added Clips. To get it back to include those, hit the \ (Backslash) key, to zoom the Timeline out, then just Dbl-click on the little "box" in the middle of the WAB, to expand it to include the entire Sequence.
    A click+drag on the IN, or OUT WAB bracket will allow one to adjust just the WAB, to what the user needs.
    The WAB can be used for several things, but is most often used to limit Exports and Renders. However one neat feature is to use it to get the Duration of several Clips - set it, as needed, then hover the Cursor over that little box, to get a read-out of info. I use that, when scoring, and needing to find the Duration of a lot of Clips, without doing the math.
    Good luck,

  • FCP sequence won't compress smaller with higher setting??

    I'm compressing a 97 minute project. It has 3 video layers. SD. 4x3.
    -layer #1: 97 minutes of material
    -layer #2: approx. 12 minutes of material
    -layer #3: approx. 5 minutes of material
    I used default 4x3 SD 120 best quality. Set the avg bit at 3.9 (106 minutes)
    result: 4.2 G
    Used avg bit 3.5 (118 minutes)
    result: 4.18 G
    Used default 4x3 SD 150 best quality avg bit rate @ 3.1 (128 minutes)
    result: 4.16 G
    At a loss of why the sequence will not compress smaller. I've done adjustments in the past and they were smaller, including multiple layers, why not now?
    I am trashing the previous MPV and letting DVDSP connect to the new MPV.
    I swear I saw the MPV say 3.8 G for one brief moment then say 4.18G

    unfortunately, I'm editing at home but conversing at work regarding this problem. It is not a multi angle project.
    The layers refer to my FCP project. The DVDSP has only one layer.
    The overall DVDSP project is coming up at 4.8 G. Just over the limit.
    This is why I recompressed to make it a bit smaller. This when the problems at hand have occured.
    I have the audio to this 97 minute proj. and a 30 sec dropzone pice for the menu with video and audio.
    I'm using same set up w/ compressor I've used for over 60 other projects. I use the Best Quality setting for a 4x3 proj. I use a defualt setting that is higher than the proj. length. In this case I used Best Quality 120 min. I adjust the avg bit rate until the minutes at the bottom of the window show ten minutes longer than my sequence length (giving it a bit of a buffer).

    I have tested on my DEVELOPMENT DB again. It is working fine. It requires to reconnect after turn off the DROP ANY TABLE. Have you done that? Send me output of test you performed.
    You can test using following script.
    connect as USER2 & execute following statements.
    audit drop any table;
    create table user1.test(

  • Generating a digital waveform sequence

    I am trying to generate two 8-bit digital sequences and send them as an output command over two channels simultaneously. Sequence length of 80 microsecs. 1 Bit length of 10 microsecs. The first sequence is high on all the 8-bits its role is to trigger the recording of the sequence on the second channel. The second sequence is the same in length but I would like to be able to control what this sequence is. I am trying to come up with a VI that would send these two sequences simultanously.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
    For us to be able to help you better, please describe what hardware you
    are referring to. Are you using one of NI's DAQ products, if so which
    one? If not, on what port do you want the data to be output?

  • Adobe Audition 3.0 will not load recordings that are 8 hours long?

    I have been taking day long recording sessions and wanting to review them from projects and notes. Someday these recordings can be over 8 hours in length and Audition will only load the first 2-3 hours of this.  Does anyone else have this issue?  How did you take care of this issue?  I am just looking for any information.  I have tried to record in both .WAV and .MP3 and it does the same thing.  I would really like to be able to find a way to make this work.   Thanks.

    I am actually not using it to record it live.  I am trying to import files off of an Olympus voice recorder and then edit them into sections through Audition.   The complete file will not load up.  It will only show the first 3 hours of a recording and then not see the rest.  But if I open the file in Windows Media Player it will play all 6-8 hours of the recording.  Any ideas of why it will not open the complete file?
    This is a slightly longer explanation of what ryclark wrote, and with probably the only solution that will work for you. I say probably, because I haven't ever needed to do this for myself. Others have reported that it works, and that's what I'm relying on here!
    So, what format are you opening the file in in Windows Media Player? If you open the MP3 it won't have a problem, because the MP3 file is severely compressed. It's only when you expand it out and try to save (or open, even) it so that it looks like a wav file that you have the problems. Because of the wav file size limit, you can't have a single wav file at anything like a sensible sample rate that will last that long. This isn't an Audition limit, it's imposed by the maximum address size you can write to the file header.
    The way around this is to import the file into Multitrack view, because this has the ability to split files and use the extra chunks in the broadcast wav specification to appear to open a much larger file. In reality it isn't though - it's just stitching together the several max length wav files that expanding the MP3 file out created. But you wouldn't be able to save this as a giant wav file, simply because of the addressing limitiations, which remain. What it should do though is let you extract sections from it, and open and subsequently save them in Edit view.

  • Premiere Pro to Audition Export (CS6)

    I'm trying to edit an audio clip from to Premiere Pro in Audition. I am able to open the clip in Audition and edit it, but when I try to select "Export to Premiere Pro" from the Multitrack menu option, it won't allow me to click on it. I've watched numerous videos and in all of them, there is a window that pops up asking Export options before the clip even opens in Audition. That window never pops up for me, it just opens straight into Audition. I'm sure this has the be the cause of the problem. Has anyone else experienced this problem? And how would you go about solving it? Thank you.

    I might be wrong, but I thought you could only do what you're asking when you send the entire sequence over to Audition, not just a clip.

  • Unkown length in custom CharSequence implementation

    I'm trying to write a custom implementation of the CharSequence interface for use with the Regular Expression package java.util.regex. This implementation adapts a generic Reader object to the CharSequence interface, so I can read directly from the Reader and do reg exp matching.
    However, the CharSequence interface defines the public int length() method and there is no sensible value to return in my implementation, since I have no reasonable way of knowing how many characters a given Reader may contain.
    For efficiency reasons, I don't want to read the entire contents of the Reader into a StringBuffer (Reader could be backed by a 4MB file). I just want the reg exp matcher to read a ways into the Reader, then stop.
    Is there a way to get around this? This seems like a great deficiency in the CharSequence interface, assuming the length of the sequence should ALWAYS be known.
    Thanks,
    Zach Cox
    [email protected]

    If you do not know the length a CharacterItterator
    implementation is perhaps more suited than
    CharSequence?Which CharacterIterator? java.text.CharacterIterator isn't appropriate for reg exp. org.apache.regexp.CharacterIterator is great - its public boolean isEnd(int pos) method is good because the length of the character sequence isn't required to be known ahead of time.
    However, this requires using the Jakarta RegExp package when I'd much rather use JDK 1.4.1 classes and not have to ship another jar with my distribution.
    The CharSequence method public int length() may offer the reg exp matching algorithm some efficiency in that in knows how many chars it has to process, but IMHO they should have built in support for unknown sequence lengths (i.e. return -1 if you don't know the length).

  • Sequence In-Out Duration in the Project Panel?

    Using Premiere Pro CC 2014.2, and wanting to view duration of in-out selections of multiple sequences in the Project panel before batch exporting via AME. The media duration display only shows full sequence length. Anybody have any ideas on how to view in-out duration in the project panel (I'm aware the duration shows up in the Program panel when a sequence is active).

    searching for metadata fields, it seems to have no in/out duration.  so might have to request for adobe to add it. Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form
    i did notice that if i load the sequence from the project bin into the source monitor, then change the in and out points to match the same as in the timeline, it will change the "video duration" metadata column to reflect the in/out duration. its also possible just to change the "video in point" and "video out point" metadata values in the project bin to get the matching video duration, bypassing the need to load the sequence into the source monitor.  i also noticed when i export the sequence it will use the in/out on the timeline not the source monitor. this workaround adds extra steps, especially if changing the in/out points often.

  • Audio falls out of sync with FCP sequence after export from STP

    Hey all,
    editing sound on a short film. sent FCP sequence to sweeten the dialog and add effects, according to the timeline it is the same length as sequence length in
    FCP, but when exporting from STP to FCP to complete movie, the sound ends up being about 10 frames longer than the video and starts in sync and falls out of sync over the duration of the film.
    Have tried changing preference settings in STP, exported about 5 ways to breakfast and all have same result.
    Anyone have a solution to this problem?
    Much thanks,
    Holly

    I just experienced this same thing, and as Christof says, it had to do with 'Easy Setup' and 'all formats'. I've been editing a picture shot on RED in Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) at 2K (2048 x 1152) and 24fps...FCS 3 (FCP 7 latest version). Whenever you trash preferences or start up FCP new, you get the 'easy setup' menu. Previously, I could just hit 'okay' and go ahead into FCP and change the settings/resolutions within the project...even if the 'easy setup' default was, say, DV/NTSC 29.97. Also, when opening up an active project after trashing prefs, the project itself would still have the same editing/playback settings/resolutions, even if the 'easy setup' window had its default DV/NTSC setting. Plus, if you create a new timeline and its default is one format, once you drop a different format into it, it asks you if it should adjust to that format anyway, and of course, you say yes and everything is fine.
    Well....in this most recent FCP update, whenever I'd export an AIFF from the timeline and reimport....or if I'd just import an AIFF...it would do something to the playback rate of that newly imported/reimported sound file and suddenly its sync has drifted all over the place within just a minute or so. But strangely, it wouldn't do it to audio that's attached to picture (.mov/MP4/etc.)....only isolated audio files (AIFF/WAV). So naturally, I wondered if something was going on during the export process or the like.
    The solution is to make sure that when you open FCP (newly, or after trashing prefs), make sure you pick the settings/format/framerate in that 'Easy Setup' window that matches what you intend to edit as closely as possible. In my case, the format is Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), 2048 x 1152 @ 24fps, and I use a Blackmagic Multibridge so I have settings for it. Hence......*Format; HD, Frame Rate: 24, Use: Blackmagic HDTV 1080P 24 - 10 bit.* Whereas the default upon startup is....Format: (all formats), Frame Rate: 29.97, Use: DV/NTSC 48KHz.
    You can also set these in the 'Audio Video Settings' menu. Now, whenever I export and reimport an AIFF, or just import an AIFF (like the soundmix prepared by our sound designer), sync stays and there's no drift. So make sure you've picked the right settings when starting or reopening a project, again as Christof pointed out.

    here status means if inserting then 'i' if updating then 'u' if deleting then 'd'
    and outdated means if inserting or updating then 'n' if deleting then 'y'
    and rest 2 columns are just mapping ( audit trigger)
    and another condition is :
    if seq changes the treat as delete + insert { means dest table should result in 2 rows...where status = d  and i also}
    Could you please hint me in writing with the above logic...
    I'm confused in adding the above condition...
    Hope you will help me soon...
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    The following is tables and triggers i tried
    CREATE TABLE T_I_D
       CL_ID      NUMBER(38)                         NOT NULL,
       TRI_SEQ    NUMBER(38)                         NOT NULL,
       TRI_LEN    NUMBER,
        OUTDAT     VARCHAR2(1 BYTE)                   NOT NULL,
        MOTP     VARCHAR2(1 BYTE)                   NOT NULL
    CREATE TABLE TI_T
      RI_ID         VARCHAR2(15 BYTE)               NOT NULL,
      RI_SEQ        INTEGER                         NOT NULL,
      LEN           FLOAT(126),
      ROUND         FLOAT(126),
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER trig
    AFTER INSERT OR UPDATE OR DELETE
    OF RI_SEQ, LEN
    ON TI_T REFERENCING NEW AS NEW OLD AS OLD
    FOR EACH ROW
    DECLARE
      riSeq TI_T.RI_SEQ%TYPE;
    len TI_T.LEN%TYPE;
    mTp VARCHAR2(1);
    outDated VARCHAR2(1);
    doconnect number:=0;
    dodisconnect number:=0;
    BEGIN
    IF (UPDATING('RI_SEQ')) OR DELETING THEN
    len :=:OLD.LEN;
    mTp :='D';
    outDated :='Y';
    riSeq:=:old.RI_SEQ;
    doconnect:=1;
    END IF;
    IF (UPDATING('RI_SEQ')) OR INSERTING THEN
    doconnect:=0;
    len :=:NEW.LEN;
    mTp :='I';
    outDated :='N';
    riSeq:=:NEW.RI_SEQ;
    doconnect:=1;
    END IF;
    IF UPDATING('LEN') THEN
    len :=:NEW.LEN;
    mTp :='U';
    outDated :='N';
    dodisconnect:=1;
    END IF;
    INSERT ALL
    WHEN(doconnect=1) then
    INTO T_I_D(
                 CL_ID,
                 TRI_SEQ,
                  TRI_LEN,
                 OUTDAT,
                 MOD_TP )
    values(      CL_ID,
                 TRI_SEQ,
                  TRI_LEN,
                 OUTDAT,
                 MOD_TP)
    when (dodisconnect=1) then
    INTO T_DTRI_D(
                 CL_ID,
                 TRI_SEQ,
                  TRI_LEN,
                 OUTDAT,
                 MOD_TP)
    values CL_ID,
                 TRI_SEQ,
                  TRI_LEN,
                 OUTDAT,
                 MOD_TP)
    SELECT * FROM
        SELECT 1 AS CL_ID,
                 riSeq as TRI_SEQ,
               len as TRI_LEN,
             outdated AS OUTDAT,
            mTp as MOD_TP
        FROM dual;
    END;But while updating the 'SEQ' column i need to 2 rows in o/p table containing mTp ='d' and 'i' also
    but i'm not getting the same..
    so what changes do i need to do in code

  • From PP to Encore I lose audio

    When moving from PP to Encore I, as aparently hundreds, most likely thousands, of other folks have experienced, lose the audio portion of my project. Sometimes I will get only the first part. Here are some points to consider:
    1. Many threads have spoken of leaving the Encore more time to process. I have left mine for an entire day. If that is not enough time??
    2. I am importing from a Sony video camera VX2000 NTSC I am processing standard DVs NOT HD NOT Blu Ray. 720X480 29.97fps
    3. I am NOT a knowledgeable video editor I make rocking chairs and teach people how to make them - www.rockingchairuniversity.com I do my own websites, write books and edit videos in order to support my students. If Adobe supported their customers as well as I support mine I would NOT be on this forum now!
    4. I have spent the better part of the last four days working on this problem. At one point I envoked Audition from PP and was able to convert the entire audio to MONO. Within Audition I selected the audio with control C, went back to PP and pasted it to an open audio channel, muted the original tracks and then processing in Encore went quite well. (could have been a dream) BUT I do not recall what I did in Audition to accomplish said task.

    This morning I am starting from scratch:
    New project:
         Video rendering and playback
              Mercury playback engine software only (can not change)
         Video
              Display format
                   Timecode
         Audio
              Display format
                   Audio Samples
         Capture
              Capture format
                   DV
    New Sequence
         Sequence presets:
              DV NTSC
                   Standard 48khz
    When downloading video from Sony VX2000 I used "scene detect" and ended up with about 80, on average, clips per one hour tape. I am loading two or three of these "clips" into this project for testing. Total sequence length, maybe three minutes.
    Some of the data from my "sequence settings" are:
         Display format: 30fps drop frame timecode
         Audio 48khz
         Display format: Audio samples
         Preview file format:  NTSC DV
         Codec DV NTSC
    Max bit depth not selected and Maximum render not selected.
    In "preferences" I have:
         Audio:
         5.1 mixdown type: Front + Rear
         Mono media: Adaptive
         Stereo Media: Adaptive
         5.1 Media: Adaptive
         Multichannel Mono Media: Adaptive (I changed to adaptive because Adobe was changing my voice overs to "chipmunk mode"
    Then I select "file" and "import" and select two or three of my clips from the "sony capture".
    Now I have four clips in my project window, "Project: test"
    I double click to move to my edit window and then drag them to my timeline (sequence 01)
    I now have about a minute and a half of video plus audio.
                   I see something I have not noticed before  --  On my audio 1 track I see some tiny boxes on the far right and when I hover over them they say "channel output mapping" It is setup for input 1 > output 1 and input 2 > output 2
    I click "file" > "Adobe Dynamic Link" > "Send to Encore"
         in Encore:
              Project settings:
                   Authoring mode: DVD
                   Television Standard: NTSC
                   Transcode Settings: Codec: MPEG-2 Dimensions 720X480: Frame Rate 29.97;
                                                 Fields: Lower Field First
                                                 Audio Transcoding Scheme: Dolby Digital
                                                 Maximum Audio/Video bitrate: 8Mbps
    I click "OK"
    Thirty seconds or so later Encore opens with my video showing. I press play and I hear audio for approximately 1 or two seconds. 15 minutes later I still hear audio for one or two seconds. (it stops in exactly the same place)
    I happen to have two machines on my desk, both less than two weeks old. An HP Pavillion with 6Gb memory a fast processor and a 1.5Tb hard drive with nothing on it except my Adobe programs. The other is an Acer with 10Gb memory and a 2Tb hard drive with nothing on it but my Adobe programs. This operation was conducted on my Acer. I will now execute exactly the same sequence of operations using exactly the same clips on my HP Pavilion and will report back.

  • Managing and mastering audio

    What's the best way to master audio for a project in CS5.5? (It's never felt very effienct...)
    For this particular project, I have 34 interviews that I want to make sure are all equal in their audio levels, but don't necessarily want to add 34 audio tracks.  In previous projects, with fewer interviews, a dedicated track for each subject worked well, but I can't see how this would be manageable with so many interviews, especially when there are only small snippets from each person. (total project length is around 25 minutes)
    I have also wondered if there is a way to import the entire sequence audio into Audition for editing rather than just on a clip by clip basis?
    Thank you

    You could break the files into three categories high volume, medium volume, and low volume. Then put all clips that are loud on a track that has no gain applied to it only compression using the dynamics effect. Then put the medium clips on a track with a little bit of gain and a bit less compression than the loud clips. Then take your lower volume clips and put them al on a track with more gain and almost no compression at all. Then on your master track put the dynamics effect but don't use any compression only turn on the limiter and set it to whatever you want your absolute max audio level to be.
    Basically if you do this it will work wonderfully once you figure out exactly what your target volume is going to be you set everything else accordingly. So this your loudest clips are getting compression but no gain and also a limiter to stop them from going over your desired peak volume. Then your medium clips are getting a bit of gain from their dynamic effect on their own track while not compressing them hardly at all if any, then putting your lowest clips on a track with the dynamics effect with enough gain to make them = to the loud clips and also the medium. Then make sure not to compress the lower level tracks at all and then you're ready to go.
