Sequence not conforming to clip settings

I am struggling trying to set up a sequence for some Sony Ex1 footage. We shot at 720p 60f/s. Using XDcam transfer we now have Quicktime movs with the following details...
dimensions: 1280 x 720, codecs: XDCAM EX 720p25 (35Mb/s VBR) Integer (Big Endian) Timecode, Original format: MPEG HD
Is this still a delivery format? When I cant seem to match the sequence to these clips. I have the conform sequence option set to 'ask' but I am not given the option. Am I better off converting to prores HQ or am I missing something blindingly obvious?
any help appreciated
cheers Jimmy

It won't ask to change the sequence settings to a delivery format. It will only change them to an editing format. If you want to edit this footage, you'll have to log and transfer the MPEG HD footage to a FCP friendly format.

  • New sequence not conforming to clip settings

I'm using FCP 6.0.6. I've got some iPhone 3GS video clips (shot with the Super 8 app). When I create a new sequence, and then drag one of the iPhone clips to the sequence, the sequence does not conform to the low res iPhone settings. I've tried setting my FCP prefs to "always" and "ask" for auto conform. Neither is working--when set to ask, it doesn't ask, and when set to always, the sequence doesn't conform.
    Any thoughts? Thanks.

It would make no sense to enlarge your clips to 1280x720.
The problem is your original material is not in a standard video size.
You might try converting it to ProRes422 while leaving the material in the 480x320 size. Make sure you convert the audio to 48khz as well.
Once converted, create a new sequence and drop one of the newly converted files into it. The timeline sequence should be adjusted to allow for realtime playback.
    Good luck.

  • Is there a way to create a sequence automatically from a clips settings?

I know you can go in and look at the settings and manually input them into the sequence, but I wondered if there was a way to ideally cntrl click (or something like that) the imported clip and "create new sequence" using the clip settings rather than doing it manually?
If there's not a way to do this, it would be a really handy feature for those of us dealing with multiple formats.
    Thanks in advance.

About as close as you can get is to right-click on a single clip and Make Multiclip Sequence. Hit OK to make an sequence out of the single clip. Open the sequence made and delete the multiclip and edit the clip you want back into the sequence.

  • FCP 6 - getting Sequence to conform to clips

    FCP 6.0.6
imported a folder full of images into a brand new sequence.
    getting red in TL
manually conformed Sequence to "clips" (still images with dur of 2 secs)
Ive read that drag and drop (a clip to the sequence icon) in the browser or the TL should cause FCP to either ASK you or ALWAYS conform the sequence to the clip setting. For me this never seems to occur.
I just want to make a custom slideshow here, but everytime I drag my "clips" into the TL, I get red.
I changed every attribute I could in the sequence settings, but still get red in the TL over each still image/clip.
I never seem to get prompted as this software is advertised to be capable of.
    FCP 6.0.6
    What am I missing ?
    TIA
    Happy Holidazed

A still image is not a clip, nor does it conform to any of the codecs supported by FCP.

  • Print not conforming to chosen settings.

Printing from Photoshop CS5, I am not getting accurately sized printings... I'm having the same problems on two different printers, so I don't think it's a printer issue... Every thing prints smaller than it should... Would appreciate help.

Still trying to get help. I might add that the printing size coming from 'Pages' also does not match the size that is viewed/selected either. It looks like it should fill a 8.5x11 page, but when it prints the margins are huge and the print job is much smaller than it should appear.

  • "Change sequence settings to match clip settings"

Hi - I seem to have lost this prompt!!
Before when I bring a clip into a sequence with a different codec, FCP would ask me if I would like to change the sequence settings to match the clip settings..
I used to love this feature because it meant I didnt need to render the sequence and i could edit clips with most any codec/compression settings etc.
Anyway now FCP doesnt do it anymore! I send the clip down and it just puts it in the sequence and gives me the big RED BAR on top and I have to render.
I have repaired permissions. I have trashed FCP prefs..etc
I'm using FCP 6.0.4 on Tiger. Any ideas would be super appreciated!

    Hey guys,
I found the same problem occurred with my own "weird codec". I'm on FCP 6.0.6 and I was doing some simple testing work with Photobooth's video feature, which records in MPEG-4 640x480 .mov. I tried getting my sequence to auto-conform with both 'ASK' and 'Always' settings, but no dice.
I didn't find a solution, mostly because it was easier to simply batch export them all as DV Pal clips, but I thought you might be interested. I posit the auto conform only works with more conventional video codecs like those listed in the Easy Setup options - of which, MPEG-4 is not.

  • Changing sequence settings to match clip settings-which settings are right?

I'm using a Canon HF10 camcorder and FCS 2 with a 24" iMac Intel Duo core.
When I bring in a video clip shot on my Canon HF10 (I shoot in its highest-quality mode: FXP and I do not use the 24 fps setting), I take FCP 6's recommendation to set the Sequence Settings to match the clip settings. If I then go to Sequence> Settings, I see that my Sequence Settings are 1920 x 1080 HDTV 1080i (16:9).
If you look at the Canon web page for my camera: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=269&mo delid=16186 , it shows that the camera is "Full HD" and "30p Progressive." So, why is FCP defaulting the Sequence Settings to 1080i? Is this default setting what I should be using?
Also, and perhaps more importantly, if I go into Motion 3 to create things to add to FCP projects that use the footage from my HF10, what settings should I choose in Motion 3's Select Project Preset window?
    Thanks!

  • Conforming SD clips to an HD Sequence

Hi folks. I'm having trouble conforming SD clips to match my HD sequence settings. I've checked 'always scale clips to sequence size' in Preferences. Also, manually conforming clips in the Modify menu doesn't work either. The scale, aspect ratio of the SD clips remain the same. I must be missing something obvious here. Hope you can help.. All My Best, Ben Swen

Are you putting SD clips on an HD timeline because you have other actual HD clips you want to mix in with the SD? If not, and you're just trying to get a 16:9 look, you can fake the look with letterboxing. If there's a reason you need to do what you're doing, let me know and we'll go from there.

  • Match sequence settings to clip settings should avoid rendering, right?

I drag my media to my timeline and that helpful pop-up stops and asks to match the sequence settings to the clip settings. I say yes, and because the two now match perfectly, this should eliminate the need to render --- right??
I've tried to match the squence before dropping in my media, but can't seem to find the right settings myself.
I can't waste time rendering. Please, any help on this is greatly appreciated!

    Update:
I downloaded the Pavtube HD Video Converter App (it costs $35, but it seems worth it). It has a setting menu specefic to mediums; one for Finalcut Pro that includes an option for Apple ProRes. I used the ProRes HQ setting and left the size as original (remember I captured in 4:3). When I put into Finalcut, however, I get a message that says it is not optimized for Finalcut and, once again, I have a rendering issue. However, if I go back to Pavtube and export again, this time changing the ProRes options to resize at 1920x1080, I can import into Finalcut with no problem and no rendering. The catch is that in Finalcut, my video is now stretched to fit widescreen and unfortunately the 1920x1080 is the only size I've been able to export as and then import into FCP without any problems. This is resolved when I export using quicktime convesion and set the size back to 4:3 (shown in screen shot), but brings up another problem - squished text.
Just now seeing other posts to my questions...I will try those suggestions. Thank you!

  • Sequence/Clip Settings and Rendering

Greetings from a new Final Cut user,
Upon placing a new QT movie into my sequence I get the "Attention - This clip does not match....Change sequence settings to match the clip settings ?" message. When I click "Yes" and the clip is placed in the sequence timeline I get a red bar that tells me the clip needs to be rendered. Why is this? If I click "Yes" to change the sequence settings to match the clip settings then why does the clip need to be rendered?
If I click "No" to not change the sequence settings to match the clip settings I get a green bar above the clip and the clip plays back fine without the "Unrendered" text covering the sequence monitor.
I have also rendered a QT movie from Motion with the same settings as my sequence and upon placing this clip into my sequence I get the same message as above with the same results when I click "Yes" or "No".
Can someone please explain to me what's going on? Thanks in advance for any help.
    Jeff

    Then that isn't normal.
#44: FCP acting weird - Trash Prefs
Shane's Stock Answer #44: FCP acting weird or unusual. Just not like is normally should
If the program was working fine, and now isn't, or just isn't working the way it should, the first things to do are:
    1) Trash your FCP preferences. Download the Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/trashing_fcpprefs.html
    2) Open the Disk Utility and Repair Permissions.
    3) Shut down for 10 min. Go for a quick walk around the block and get SOME exercise today. Come back, turn on the computer and see how things are.
    4) (optional) Do the Hokey Pokey and turn your self about. Results may vary.

  • Matching the sequence clip settings.

Ok so i have a Sony xdcam ex1 and i also have a panasonic dvx 100b, i am making a trailer with both of them in the same timeline and it matches the clip settings to whatever i put in to the timeline first, so the next clip i put in that doesn't match that settin looks real bad. Is there a way to have a timeline that supports both settings or no?
    thanks

Start with a DV timeline, and drop the XDCAM footage from the EX1 into that timeline. Downconverting XDCAM 1080 HD to DV is a lot cleaner looking that upconverting DV to 1080 HD.
Oh, and never judge the quality of your footage on the computer monitor...only a broadcast quality monitor connected to the system.
    #2 Blurry Playback
Shane's Stock Answer #2: Blurry playback
ONLY JUDGE THE QUALITY OF YOUR MATERIAL ON AN EXTERNAL NTSC MONITOR, OR AT LEAST A TV.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=24787
Video playback requires large amounts of data and many computations. In order to maintain frame rate and be viewable at a normal size, only about one-fourth of the DV data is used in displaying the movie to the screen. However, the DV footage is still at full quality, and is best viewed thru a TV or NTSC monitor routed thru your camera or deck.
The canvas shows you what happens after the codec you are working with has been applied. The viewer shows you the material in its native format. There are a couple things you can do to make it look better:
    1. Disable overlays on the canvas
    2. Make sure you've rendered everything (no green bars at the top of the timeline
But still, your computer monitor will not show you a full quality image. For that you need an external monitor and a proper output device, such as those made by Canopus (ADVC 110, 300…only for DV), AJA, Black-Magic or Matrox.

  • Converting a nested sequence into a single clip

    Hi,
I was wondering if anybody could tell me how to convert a nested sequence into a single clip?
I have captured several forty minute mini-dv tapes and there were a lot of timecode breaks, my user preferences made FCP generate a new clip every time the timecode changed.
I like to make subclips from a single master clip when I edit so I added all the broken clips into a sequence and nested them which has created a single clip within a sequence, but it has labeled the footage as a 'sequence' in the browser as opposed to a 'clip'.
I think I need to strip the footage of its timecode but to not want to have to print to a blank mini-dv cassette and then re-import, if anyone knows of a solution to this problem it would be a great help.
    Many thanks.

File - Export - QT Movie... Current Settings... don't make it self contained and DON'T trash your original captures either!!

  • Two different clip settings on one timeline

    Hello All,
I am combining clips shot with two different cameras on one timeline.
For best quality results of the image, what sequence settings and then export choice should I use? It is a 4 min film that I would like to export as QT or MPEG-4 movie file.
In FCP, both clips look crisp and sharp. I tried various export formats in compressor, but the output always returns the clips from camera 2 de-interlaced (the edges of objects are not smooth but zygzagy).
    Clip settings from camera 1:
    frame size: 1920 x 1080
video rate: 23.98 and some in 29.97
    compressor: Apple ProRes 422
    Pixel Aspect ratio: square
Field dominance: None and some have Upper (Odd)
    Clip settings from camera 2:
    Frame size: 720 X 480
    Video Rate: 29.97
    Compressor: DV/DVC PRO- NTSC
    Pixel Aspect: NTSC- CCIR60
    Field dominance: Lower (Even)
    Thank you for any suggestions,
    Izabela

hazel - if you're making a DVD, then you're going to be using NTSC SD settings - so that's the "send to" compressor - and in compressor you will choose a DVD format, etc.
But if you are creating a digital file to play from a laptop to a projector, I am suggesting you set your frame size to the most common pixel width of most projectors; 1024 x 576 precisely so you do not have to make any adjustments on the projector. You are basically running VGA out (or DVI) into the PC input of the projector and running a quicktime or wmv file and the projector will not have to re-map the image. All of my editing takes place on a mac, and quicktime is my fav but in the corporate world I often have to produce PC friendly files that they take and project with conference type LCD projectors. I do it all the time - this is a good way to go if you are in a similar position.
On larger scale productions, we stay mac based and use high-end projectors and switchers, etc. But when you are handing your edits off to normal corporate meeting attendees they often try to embed them into powerpoint or at least run them in windows media players. If this is the case for you, then I am saying create custom frame of 1024 x 576 if your content is 16:9.

  • Clip settings unique by project??

I am currently working with SDV (for income projects). I dropped a HD file into my project just to see what it would look like. FCP complained that the clip does not match the current settings. Natch I said no to change them, I need them the way they are for the SDV I am currently working on.
If I open a new project and change clip settings will my SDV project, when opened, be unchanged??
    Thanks

    Hi -
If you create a new project and change the Easy Set Up so that the new sequences in your new project are HD, your older SD project will remain unaffected. If you reopen the older project and create a new sequence in that older project, it will be created to match whatever +your current+ Easy Set Up is set to. But any existing sequences will remain unaffected.
    Hope this helps.

  • Cannot change compound clip settings from 1080P 60fps to 1080i 25fps

Hi. I created a compound clip, which for some reason ended up with settings of 1080P 60fps (probably because I added a music track first before any video and just used the automatic settings). After editing a whole sequence and exporting a master file, I realized the settings had been wrong. All my footage is 1080i 25fps.
Only thing is when I tried to change the compound clip settings, I only had other progressive options available. I could not change it to 1080i.
I had to create a brand new Compound Clip with 1080i 25 and paste the clips from the original CC into the new CC. Only thing was a music track was now out of sync with the video (presumably because the fps value in the original CC did not match the footage). I had to retime the audio track to around 99% speed to fit to the video clips again!
Why could I not change the CC settings directly?
    Thanks

The compound clip is acting like a project. You can never change the timebase of project once there's media in it. You should copy and paste into a new compound clip if you can.
