Sequence of Songs in Playlists

My Ipod Nano has started to randomly sequence the order that I have songs in my playlists. When I look at the order on screen in iTunes and on my iPod screen it looks the way that I want it, but when I play it, it randomizes the order. I tried updating the software on iTunes and on my iPod, but it had no effect on the problem. Help!

You have selected "Shuffle" in your settings. Go to the Main Menu of your iPod, select "Settings" and then toggle shuffle to off.

  • How can I change the sequence of songs in my iTunes library and playlists?

I find that I cannot alter the sequence of songs iniTunes library, nor in 'My Playlist'.
Having dragged an item to place between two others, it goes back to where it was.
I am probably asking 'Help' the wrong question, but I cannot find the right answer.
I am sure the answer is very simple, but I would welcome the right answer.

That's the normal intended behaviour of the Library. I'm not exactly sure why it is, but I guess it's to make it clear to users that if they want to "fine tune" the tracks they should use a playlist (just like you can't use the burn button in the library).
I'm sure you've noticed that you can still sort the library by clicking the headings.

  • Is there a way to create a sequence by using multiple playlists?

Is there a way to create a sequence so that music from several playlists is played in a specific order.
    For example:
    1 song from playlist 1
    3 songs from playlist 2
    5 songs from playlist 3
    1 song from playlist 4
    After which it restarts.

No. Create a new PL with the sequence that you want. You can tell the PL to repeat itself.

  • How do I add certain songs and playlists to my iPhone but not others?

    Hi all,
I recently installed iTunes 11.0 onto my MacBook Pro, and I yearn for the days of far simpler content management.  All I want to do is add certain songs and playlists from my computer onto my iPhone without re-syncing the entire thing (every time I do, sound files that I created for work find their way onto my phone, and I have to re-delete them every time).  But I can't figure out how to simply add ONE song or ONE playlist to what is already there.  In the previous version, it was so simple--just point, click, and drag.  Now I can't figure it out and I feel like an idiot.  Can anyone show me how to do such an absurdly simple thing?
    Thanks,
    Neil

When you sync your phone with your laptop (or other device that has the songs you want), go into your music preferences and choose "Selected playlists, artists, albums and genres." This should allow you to select the three songs you want from your library. Make sure to click or tap on "apply" or else the changes will not be saved. Let the phone completely sync and those three songs should be in your phone's music library.
    Hope this helps!

  • How can I do to transfer all iTunes library from my Mac book Pro to Time capsule without to lost the alphabetic sequence of songs

How can I do to transfer all iTunes library from my Mac book Pro to Time capsule without to lost the alphabetic sequence of songs & artists? What is the correct way to transfer my 3000 songs to Time capsule, to free the memory of my Mac? Thanks a lot. Carlo Molinari (Rome - Italy)

How can I do to transfer all iTunes library from my Mac book Pro to Time capsule without to lost the alphabetic sequence of songs & artists? What is the correct way to transfer my 3000 songs to Time capsule, to free the memory of my Mac?
The following are the basic steps to transfer your iTunes Media folder from your MacBook Pro to the Time Capsule (TC). Note: You will leave the iTunes Library, and its associated files, on the MacBook Pro as you will only be moving the media files.
Be sure to shutdown iTunes before starting.
Next, move the "iTunes Music" folder, located in ~/Music/iTunes/, to wherever you want on your TC's internal hard drive. Remember to leave the Album Artwork folder, as well as the three individual library files where they are on the MacBook Pro.
Wait a while. If you have a large library, this will take a bit of time.
Once the iTunes Media folder has been transferred, open iTunes. Note: It will still be looking at your local iTunes Library on the MBP. As such it will think that the iTunes Media folder is still on the MBP as well. However, we just relocated it to the TC. If you attempt to select any song, you will get an error that the song is "missing." Not to worry, we will correct this in the next step.
We need to tell iTunes the media has moved to the TC's internal HDD. To change where iTunes "looks" for the media, open iTunes and go to the Advanced > General tab and use the "Change..." button to tell it where your new "iTunes Music" library is located.
Once this is done iTunes will likely pop up a progress window telling you that it's re-analyzing your library. Let it complete this step.
As a final check to make sure everything when as planned, click on any library file from within iTunes and press cmd + i (or View > Get Info). At the bottom of the Summary tab in that window is a "Where:" section that tells you the actual file path to that piece of media; be sure that path begins with the name of your TC's drive, and not "Macintosh HD."

  • Can I get all my songs and playlist to a Flash dirve to play in the car now the large iPod is no more?

Hello, so I have read a few discussions on transferring songs/playlist to a flash drive. But what I am looking for is can I replace my iPod classic in my car with a flash drive? So I have all my songs and playlist just like the iPod. And how do I do this?
I have a Ford with My Ford Touch, so it can find its own album art, but I do want the playlists. I have the same song in multiply playlist so I don't want to have multiply copies of the same song one the drive.
It seems that most iPods classics are in use in the car these days so there must be some easy way to replace them with they no longer work.

I doubt that "most iPods classics are in use in the car these days."  iPod classic uses a delicate hard drive for storage (instead of flash storage) plus it has other sensitive parts like the display and battery, so it is prone to damage from shock, heat, cold, etc.  The car environment is not so ideal for iPods (especially the ones with hard drives).  It's ideal for a USB flash drive.  They are now relatively cheap per GB.  They have no moving parts, or screen, or battery, so you can just leave it connected to the USB port most of the time; you don't have to constantly connect and disconnect it, which causes wear for an iPod.  Get something like this, and it barely sticks out from the USB port.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/SanDisk/SDCZ33016G/
You should be able to copy song files to a USB flash drive using iTunes, by showing a list of songs in iTunes, selecting songs on the list, and dragging the selection from the iTunes window to a Windows Explorer window that shows the USB flash drive.
Depending on the car audio system, it may recognize folders on the USB flash drive as "playlists."  As a test, try putting some folders at the top level of the flash drive, with names to represent playlists.  Then, add a few song files to those folder, and try it on the car audio system.

  • Tired of paying for Apple's continued failure. Give us option on phone (NOT thru itunes sync) to MANUALLY delete songs from playlists or the iphone altogether.

It happens every time I make iTunes music purchases: entire playlists get wiped out, and all I can sync onto the iPhone 5 is what I just purchased, UNLESS, YET AGAIN, I completely restore it to factory and rewrite everything all over.
    So sad, Apple.
Yes, I have looked thru the forum threads yet again, and found no other working solution.
Yes, I tried backing up the phone 1st but still get stuck with (expletive) I wanted off the phone, and stuff I wanted on there, ISN'T there.
For whatever (insert expletive of choice) reason, it will NOT sync my old playlists.
For whatever (expletive) reason, if I check "manually manage music" under the Summary tab, then go over the music tab, something (expletive of choice)  up in the software decides to uncheck the "Manually manage music" box under the Summary tab, and it just creates a zero-progress loop where I can't sync the old playlists, or even new ones I create, onto the iphone.
Worse, songs I tried to take off of it long ago seem to manifest the (expletive) right back onto the iphone out of nowhere, and unless I completely restore, LIKE I'M DOING AGAIN, there is no working option I have found that removes the song(s) I THOUGHT I GOT RID OF.
PLEASE, Apple, is it asking too much to create a music sync that WORKS CORRECTLY all the time?
It is ONLY ever the music that does this.
App syncing, photo syncing, all of that functions properly each and every time.
And yet, oh look, it won't accept any playlists off my AUTHORIZED computer.
GIVE US THE SIMPLE option on the next iPhone update so we can manually remove/delete unwanted songs from playlists on the iphone, or from the iphone altogether, WITHOUT needing to connect it to a computer thru a faulty iTunes software that obviously consistently fails to properly sync the correct music on and take off what we don't want.
This is the final time I'm making the mistake of iTunes Store purchases until a sensible fix is implemented that addresses this fail sync issue.
Again, WHY is it ONLY and only ever the music syncing that (expletive of choice to get the point across) fails, yet apps and photos and mail & phone contacts sync correctly every time?
Yes, I read in the forum threads and customer support responses what needs to be checked and/or unchecked, yet all too often some software fail decides to revert those selections right back to where they were if I click another tab and come back to it (no, it's not an administrator thing, I am the only authorized user on the computers in question).
I'm tired of the hassle of having to redo my music library all over again, restore the phone, and hope that once more it will have the correct songs I told it to sync and NOT have a bunch of crap I never checked for it to have on there in the first place.
    FIX THIS PLEASE.

    You're welcome.

  • Organization Problems.  Can no longer put songs in playlists.

    First
"Why am I reposting my earlier question?"
    ANSWER:
    1.  I had to post my question a second time because as you can see my first post isn't showing as a question anymore nor does it allow me to recheck the   "box" that turns my post into a  question.
    2.  I received suggested answers via a "popup".  The answers were dated 2006 and 2008.
    3.  While some questions may be able to have answers from that long ago, my question requires a 2011 answer.
I knew how to drag songs to my playlist in 2008!
    4.  The saddest part is while Apple is sending me expired answers from 2006 and 2008, Ask.com already has a thread on this subject.
Second:  Please help me with my original question.
How do I select multiple songs and move them to a playlist?
    1. I was shocked when I went into Itunes and I could not drag any of my songs from one playlist to another.  I clicked and tapped and held down the cntrl/shift key.  Until yesterday, I would have told you I was extrememly confident in my Itunes skills.  It is one thing to not realize that this would be a problem but then to have NOTHING in the "help box" that addressed this common issue.
    2. I teach "Writing in the Workplace" so I know that I exhausted the Itunes "help" box as well as anyone could.
    3.  I manually manage my music and I am going to continue to manually magage my playlists due to organizational needs.
    4.  AND I need to move songs to playlists WITHOUT activitating Ping.
5..  I feel like Apple is bullying me into using PING.  I say this because the Itunes help section DOES have instructions on how organize my playlist IN PING.
    <Edited by Host>

    Thanks for responding!
My question is  the Headline and Is repeated as the 2nd header.
Second:  Please help me with my original question.
How do I select multiple songs and move them to a playlist?
I have songs in my "music" playlist and all I need to do is move them to my "marathon" playlist.
Obviously, there has been an upgrade that changed the basic operation something that has my songs locked in place.  However, nothing appears in the "help" that remotely answers my question.
I am just really sad it has taken me so long for something so simple and that I had to post here for something that should have been in "help" before the change was allowed to even happen.
Soooo....too make a short question even longer I had to run my 1/2 marathon without music this morning and I am not closer to getting those pesky music files to move from one playlist to another.
Hope you can help!  I got so many hits last night but no one even said "boo".  I think it is because my first message was marked "solved"

  • My IPod no longer shuffles songs within playlists that are clearly set to shuffle.  It is about 3/4 full so I thought of maybe compressing the files to get more space.  Do you think that is the problem and if that might help?

My IPod no longer shuffles songs within playlists that are clearly set to shuffle.  It is about 3/4 full so I thought of maybe compressing the files to get more space.  Do you think that is the problem and if that might help?

Storage space on the iPod would not affect shuffled playlists or playlist shuffling, though substantially full iPods may wind up skipping songs on larger playlists after a while, and require a restart.  As for compressing the files themselves, you can automatically re-encode files to a lower bitrate by checking the box on the summary page when your iPod is connected to your PC/Mac.
As for the shuffle problem, after restarting your iPod (hold the center button and Menu for a few seconds, until the Apple logo appears), make sure you're telling the iPod to shuffle the songs in a playlist by repeatedly clicking the center button until the Suffle Menu comes up, then scroll to the right to turn it on.  From that song forward, the playlists' contents should be shuffled every time the playlist ends, or is accessed from a new song.
Shuffle does sometimes turn itself off, I've found, so double-check the setting is still on.  Also, iPods shuffle by randomly assigning a playlist order for your songs, which is different from traditional shuffle (on, say, iTunes or Windows Media Player, where the new song is determined at random upon the current track ending.  The iPod only chooses a random order of songs when you shuffle, to conserve battery life and queue up songs coming up on the playlist in the event of a shock).

  • My ipod is not recognized on a new computer after old one crashed.  I have painstakenly restored all songs and playlists.  I deautorized all, and the reauthorized new computer.  It won't sync.

My ipod is now recognized on a new computer after old one crashed.  I installed itunes on the new computer, and have painstakenly restored all songs and playlists. I also purchased several new songs from the itunes stores.  Now my ipod will not sync with the new computer.  I deauthorized all computers, then reauthorozed the new one.  My ipod still won't sync.

...after running diagnostics through itunes, itunes says  "device not found"  Seems there are a lot of others having this problem, and it seems to be related to new version of itunes.  Apple should do something to fix this.

  • Songs and playlists missing in apple TV

itunes match is working on all my devices except the apple TV. None of my non-itunes songs or playlists are available on the apple tv. I have it showing all playlists on the apple tv and itunes match is activated on it. I am able to listen to itunes radio ad-free, but still none of my playlists are available. Anyone know what the problem could be?

This seems to be the root cause at the moment. Unfortunately, it does not appear to have a fix until 11.1.5 is released.

If you right mouse and select Get info it will show you the Apple ID used to purchase these songs.
Usually the name of an apple id is based on the email. So knowing that you may have forgotten the Apple ID password.
You can request a new password here http://www.apple.com/support/appleid/

  • How do I get my songs and playlists from an external hard drive into iTunes?

I have got all of my songs and playlists on an external drive from my PC. I just bought a mac and can't understand the directions to get my songs and playlists up and running in iTunes...Can anyone help?

If you backed the library up by drag-copying it, drag-copy it to the same location on the new computer. If you backed up an entire iTunes library, you can also drag it to any location, launch iTunes with the Shift key held down, and specify it.
If you used a backup product, check that product’s documentation.
The song files must be located on the computer’s internal drive for them to play without the external one connected. If needed, organize the library in iTunes.

  • IPod Reports no songs or playlists, however iPod is full.

I have a 30gb 5G ipod that has never had any problems until I loaded it full of new songs (around 20,000 of them) which are small files for foreign language study. Subsequently, the iPod reports that there are no songs or playlists. However, the ipod is roughly 17 Gb full, and this is properly reported under the about menu.
I restored my ipod, (twice) but this didn't help - midway through the first try, I stopped the sync and checked and the songs showed up, and I plugged in and re-continued. When all the songs were updated, once again no files display.
The iPod reports no songs or playlists, when in fact there are thousands of tracks on the iPod. The pictures, oddly, show up. When I say it reports no playlists or songs, I mean that if I go to the about screen, it says 0 songs and 0 playlists, although it shows the correct amount of Gb used. All of the menus are blank, with no songs or playlists. The exception is the photo viewing function, which still works fine and displays all of the photos on the iPod as it should.
This same problem has been reported a number of times by other iPod users elsewhere, just one example:
    http://forums.ilounge.com/archive/index.php/t-61231.html
I am using the most current version of iTunes on Windows XP. Everything looks and behaves normally on the itunes side of things.
My iPod is essentially unusable currently, as it is loaded with songs but won't recognize them. I would appreciate any help.

I tried to change the drive letter as suggested. However, after a restore and a sync, I end up with an iPod full of inaccessible files. sigh
By the way, to be exact, I have over 33,000 files now - could the shear number of files have something to do with it? Is there a limit of the number of files that can be put on the ipod? I also have over 300 playlists - could this be a problem?
