  • What are the best sequence presets and settings to use in FCE for the best resolution with the least amount on strain on computer?

    Hello!
Can someone please help me figure out the best settings to use in order to obtain the best resolution in FCE4 for a television show that is going to be sent out on full size Sony DVcam tapes, with 4:3 aspect ration and audio output at 48kHz? I am currently working with mixed media sources in Final Cut Express, and I am wondering what the best settings (presets and preferences) are, in order to provide the HIGHEST resolution possible, while putting the least amount of strain on my computer system?
I am importing mini DV-standard definition footage and still photos (from Canon Rebel camera, HD CMOS Canon camcorder that records in 1440x1080 at 48 kHz, and cell phone photos). For voiceovers I use the tools in FCE.
I use Voltaic (which I use thanks to recommendations from Apple discussion boards, love it!)  to convert the footage from the HD CMOS-Canon HD VIXIA (HG 20) camera, and then I am using print to video to output onto Sony DVcam tapes (full size). This is for delivery for a television network that broadcasts in Standard Definition, so I need to produce the highest resolution and best quality possible that also puts the least amount of stress on my computer system.
If anyone has any recommendations, help, or sources that can help me answer this question I would be greatly appreciative.
    Thank you!
    Susan Kayne

This is happening because your video clip properties do not match your sequence settings.  This is always a problem when you try to insert video from multiple camcorders/cameras (that use different video codecs, frame sizes & rates) in a single sequence.
It will help a lot if you provide more specifics - what FCE easy setup did you use to create your sequence?  For your DV footage, are you using standard 4:3 DV or anamorphic 16:9 DV clips?
If you plan to export to standard def (DV/DVCAM) and are mixing DV from a miniDV camcorder, stills, cell phone images and AVCHD then I would suggest that you use the DV NTSC easy setup for your sequence.  Use MPEG Streamclip or similar utility to convert your non-DV video (your AVCHD video) to QuickTime/Apple DV-DVCPRO NTSC.   Then all your video will match your sequence settings.  Yes, you will have to crop the AVCHD footage to 4:3 and you can do that in MPEG Streamclip.

  • New document about sequence presets and codecs missing from Premiere Pro

If you're having problems with sequence presets and codecs missing from Premiere Pro, see this document for solutions for this activation issue.
This document relates to the following problems:
    - missing sequence presets when creating a new sequence
    - Encore error: "Encore will not launch in non-royalty bearing mode. The application needs to be serialized with a royalty bearing serial number."
    - When opening a project in Premiere Pro: "Error Adobe Premiere Pro: This project contained a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview preset file or codec could be associated with this sequence type."
    - When importing footage, the footage is missing audio or video.
These failures are all because Premiere Pro and Encore use some codecs that require activation before they can be used. If activation of these codecs has failed, these codecs will not be available to use.

    Well done.

  • Best Sequence Preset and File Format for Editing HD?

I'm using Premiere CS4 and I'm starting a new project that was shot in HD. I'm dealing with multiple file formats, as several different types of HD cameras were used. This is for a feature documentary, so I need a balance between  maintaining image quality while sticking with a format that my machine  can handle smoothly. Two questions:
    1. Which HD preset should I commit to for the project (DVCProHD, XDCAM, etc.)?
    2. I want to keep things nice and tidy and convert all of my footage to the same file type. I've found that Premiere works best with AVI files, but I'd like some input on what file format and codec you recommend. I took a stab at converting some files to Microsoft AVI format using the V210 10bit YUV codec, but the file sizes are huge and my system (quad-core processor w/ 12 gigs of RAM) still can't handle smooth playback with them.
Recommendations? I'm open to purchasing a plugin, 2nd-party file converter, etc. if necessary.
    Thanks,
    Mike

I would be inclined to use a seq that matches the most prevelent source video you have.
If you decide to convert everything to one format; both P2 and XDCAM formats are a pretty good balance of file size vs quality IMHO. (both edit very smoothly)

  • Ok to move LR 2 presets and settings from old Mac PowerPC into my Mac Pro and LR4?

I had a Mac PowerPC but recently purchased a Mac Pro.  While I was at it I got Lightroom 4.  Now I want to migrate the Settings and Plugins folders from my LR 2, which is on the Mac PowerPC, to my LR 4, which is on the Mac Pro.  Is that going to cause a problem?

    Hi.
...My question is: Can I use the hard drives and RAM chips from the older Mac Pro in a new Mac Pro? I have a lot of money tied up in the additional HDs and RAM chips and I hope I can save money if they are compatible with a new "very basic" Mac Pro...
While your HDDs are reusable as Kappy said, be aware that the sleds they are in are not. The new Mac Pros use a different sled design so you'd need to take the drives off the old sleds and install them on the new sleds before you can install them in a new Mac Pro.
Also, you can get some good deals on the RAM you'll need here http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Mac-Pro-Memory#1333-memory.

    1. Deactivate
    2. Uninstall everything Adobe
    3. Run Clean Script CS4 2 or 3 times. Look here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406241.html
    4. Reinstall and activate
    5. Update
Why did this happen? Because you have in the past used a trial version or your installation was faulty.

  • How to kill custom Easy Setup / Sequence Presets?

I set up some experimental Sequence Presets and Easy Setups and now want to delete them. I have tried every recommendation that I could find (details below) but they still show up in the lists. Where on earth are these things stored??
    Here's what I've done:
    1. Repaired disk permissions
    2. In FCP, selected the Sequence Preset and pressed the Delete button.
    3. Exited Final Cut Pro.
    4. Trashed the preferences by deleting these files:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
~/Library/Preferences/Final Cut Pro User Data/Final Cut Pro 6.0 Prefs
~/Library/Preferences/Final Cut Pro User Data/Final Cut Pro Obj Cache
~/Library/Preferences/Final Cut Pro User Data/Final Cut Pro Prof Cache
    5. Emptied the Trash
    6. Rebooted the computer.
    7. Started Final Cut Pro.
    8. The Presets/Setups are still there!! Tried to find them by name with Spotlight. Doesn't find anything. Tried to find them using the command-line Defaults program. Doesn't find anything. Looked in
/Applications/Final Cut Pro Additional Easy Setups
    They are not there.
I also have Final Cut Express installed and trashed all its preferences too for good measure. But my custom settings will just not die.
    All ideas welcome!

  • HD Sequence Presets

    Hello,
I need some help on sequence presets and capture presets when shooting with the new Canon 5D Mark II. I normally have my presets at HDV-1080i60 because I shoot with the Sony Z1U.
When playing with the 5D, I went to put a clip in the timeline, and it comes up with the Sequence message, and it changes it to HDTV 1080i(16:9). What option is this under the Audio/Video when you are setting up your sequence and capture presets?
    Thanks for the help!

  • Preset or settings for video on iPhone 4?

Hello, I've been trying every preset in AME that I can find that's related to iPhone.  No matter what I use, the output video will not play on my iPhone 4 (or iPhone 4s or iPad 2 for that matter).
Can anyone tell me exactly what Preset and settings I need to select in order to produce a .mp4 video that will actually play on my iPhone 4?  On my example webpage, I'm using the HTML video element.  In Safari on my iPhone, I see a black box where the video should be, and a play button with a slash through it.
I've read numerous articles and searched forever regarding how to make a video that will actually work.  I've seen repeatedly info about using MPEG-4, AAC, etc.  I've tried creating my own custom presets and all of the ones in AME that I can find.  I just can't seem to get anything to work!
    Please help!

    Thank  you for your help.
I've read in numerous places that Safari should play .mp4 files fine and many of the iPhone presets output .mp4 files.  In general, I've read, including at Apple's website, to enode using H.264 MPEG4 part 10, AAC audio, etc.  I have tried creating custom presets and different subsettings, such as bitrate, frames, etc.
I cannot get anything to work correctly when trying to view the video using Safari on iPhone or iPad.
Anyone else know of any specific settings that will work?

  • FCP preset and Exporting movie codec setup?

    Hello all,
I am using Canon 5D mark II to take the video clips, and editing them by FCP. The original video format from 5D2 is H.264, fps 30, .mov format. At the begining, I transfer it to ProRes422 format, and then edit it in FCP.
I am not familiar with the codecs, Can anyone teach how to setup the FCP Video/Audio Setting, the Sequence Preset and Capture Preset for my 5D Mark II video?
On the other hand, when I finish editing, I don't know what kind of codec and file format is better to make the file size smaller and also has good quility for exporting, please give me some advices! thanks!

Make a new sequence. Drag one of your converted ProRes clips into the timeline before you do anything else. You should get the option to change the sequence to match the clips. Do it.
As far as exporting goes there's no way to answer that without knowing where you're trying to get to when you export.

  • Premiere Crashes & Loses Sequence Presets & Codecs

I am in the middle of an edit and all of a sudden Premiere stops responding to anything and all of a sudden the mouse changes into an endless spinning dial. Had to cancel and lost 1 hour's work because the autosave seems very unreliable despite set to save every 20 minutes. An attempt to open the project, results in Premiere saying the sequence preset and codecs are missing therefore the project can't be opened [HDV]. Then I will have to take a break and have a cup of coffee or something....AWFUL. I am signed in my Creative Cloud account and tried launching Photoshop
only to be greeted with a Trial dialog box telling me that I have got 0 days remaining for my trial with this software. The problem is I keep getting this issue once or twice evry week and I lose almost 3 hours of my edits and time troubleshooting this same problem again and again, and I think it's not a case of activation because this has been activated already unless it has to be activated every day.
I pay my subscription on time but I lose a lot of time not being to use the tools that I paid for. Can somebody tell me what's wrong with the CREATIVE CLOUD in this case, because I am just fed up of being a fall guy unable to deliver my content on schedule. I keep explaining technical issues to my clients, whom I believe they may start thinking that I use an illegal version of this software. It has happened several times in front of my clients and felt very embarassed with this crashing and losing progress. There's no third party hardware being used on the system.

While I can't address your activation issue, and if your a registered user with an active account, you should contact support directly -that's part of what you're paying for.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/service-ccm.html
In regards trusting autosave.  I don't.  It's best practice to manually save files in increments at miles stones, every hour, or whatever works for you.  That way you won't lose all your work and have to start from scratch.

  • How do I match a clip to sequence settings and sequence presets?

I'm getting the warning: Attention - This clip does not match this sequence's settings or any or our sequence presets.
I'm trying to figure out how to set things up in Compressor so that my clips do match my sequence settings and presets. The issue seems to be with the audio not matching.
    Here are the sequence settings:
    Audio-2 Outputs
    Frame Size- 1920x1080
    Vid Rate-24fps
    Compressor-Apple ProRes 422 (proxy)
    Aud Rate 48.0 KHz
    Aud Format 32-bit floating Point
I shot all the footage with a Canon 5D Mark II. I'm using Compressor to convert all my original clips. The only thing I don't seem to be able to match is the Audio. I can't find any way in Compressor to encode clips that have "two outputs" in the Audio column.
The dialogue box for "Sound Settings" in Compressor doesn't offer any sort of options, that I can find anyway, to generate clips with "two outputs."

    These are the Compressor settings:

  • How Best to Import iPhone 4 video into Premier Pro CS5 - Settings for new import "sequence preset"?

Shooting video with my iPhone 4 (ATT version) and am trying to import file into Premiere Pro CS5 (5.0.3) running on Macintosh OS 10.6.6.
The problem is that I am simply guessing on how to import sequence, and the result is that I am getting motion artifacts and generally inferior quality.  I am using iMovie 11 as my basis for comparison.   Not surprisingly, iMovie 11 imports from iPhone beautifully, but when I've looked around inside of it for properties, there isn't much to see.
From using Apple's built in quicktime "inspector,"  it is possible to see that iPhone4 video has following properties:
    ".mov" file
    dimensions:   1280 x 720
    codecs:  H.264, AAC
    Color Profile:   HD (1-1-1)

Seeking advice on how to smoothly and *losslessly* import/ingest iphone4 footage into PPro CS5.  (I am not worried about exporting for iPhone display, which is what most of the information I can find relates to).
    Thanks in advance,  Michael

    Wow.  Thanks Colin.
When I follow your approach, I don't get the same "sequence preset" dialog box popping up.
FU question, though, the motion is frequently jagged.  Is there a way to smooth out/increase the quality of the rendering?    I have 16gb ram, Mac Pro.   which is able to handle iPhone video rending fine in quicktime.   (I've tried rendering for "performance" and "memory" but both seem to produce, eh results.).

  • Sequence preset settings for HD

I'm new to shooting in HD, and I have a Sanyo Xacti HD2000 camcorder.
    I'm using Final Cut Pro v 5.1.4.
The .mp4 files which come off the camera I assume are encoded with AVCHD, since that's what the documentation says. Since FCP (at least my version) doesn't deal natively with AVCHD, I downloaded a trial of VoltaicHD and tested a clip.
The resulting .mov has a frame size of 1920 x 1080, vid rate of 59.94 fps, audio 48.0 KHz 16-bit Integer.
My question is: what sequence preset (if there is one) should I be using for my FCP projects? I can adjust a sequence settings to be HDTV 1080i frame size, but I haven't found a sequence preset which starts that way.
Should I be concerned with the Integer vs. Floating Point for the audio track?

Right, so VoltaicHD converts the video to:
    Apple Intermediate Codec, 1920 x 1080 (1888 x 1062), Millions
    16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz
and I figured out how to make a custom sequence preset with that codec and the right resolution. I'm pretty sure my FCP version doesn't have the ProRes codec support. Any thoughts on Voltaic? Is there a different/better/free way to convert the video?

  • Canon HG10 and sequence/project file settings FCP6.x

I have previously transferred footage from my Canon HG10 into FCP6.x and had it play back fine. I just transferred in some more footage and when I layer the clips the playback freezes. Now, I'll admit I'm a novice in the HD game so let me know if my settings are all wrong:
    Sequence is set to:
    frame size - 1440 x 1080
    aspect ration - HD (1440 x 1080) (16:9)
    pixel aspect ratio - HD (1440 x 1080)
    field dominance - upper (Odd)
    compressor - Apple ProRes 422
    quality - 100%
Under the "advanced" tab it is set to interlace at 29.97
    The audio/video settings are:
    sequence preset: apple prores 422 1440 x 1080 60i 48 khz
    capture preset: HDV apple prores
    device control preset: HDV firewire
video playback: digital cinema desktop preview - full screen
    audio playback: default
    Recently updated QT to 7.6.4
    Running FCP 6..0.6 on a G5 2 x 3GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon tower with 8GB 800 MHzDDR2 FB-DIMM
    In other words, HELP!

OK, doing some more research. When I look at the clip properties it is listed as 1920x1080 1.0 29.97i UFF, not progressive. If I go to Modify Clip the field order is listed as Field Order from File: Upper Field First and I have the option to Conform to: Progressive Scan
I'm confused because I thought i Interlaced was for broadcast TV and progressive was better for editing on a timeline for things like web video, adding effects and combining with other footage.
Should I modify the clip to be progressive you think? Another question, if I just change the Sequence Settings to be AVCHD 1080p is that enough or would I still need to modify the clip as well? It's so hard to find this info on Adobe's site or in any books.
Not sure why Canon would list the setting as progressive but it is wrapped as interlaced. After Googling I see this is the case and I'm not the only one who has noticed this, but I see no recommendations.
    Thanks.
