Sequence Setting Problem

Hi everyone,
Well I think I screwed up majorly. I have been editing DVCPRO HD footage on the wrong sequence settings. For some reason I assumed that by dragging the footage into the timeline that it would automatically change the sequence settings to that of the clip. Now I am realizing that the entire time I have been editing the footage in a SD timeline at 720X480. Does this mean that I have to start completely over as far as editing goes? Or can I somehow create a new correct sequence and transfer what I have edited so far into the correct format?

Make a new sequence, open it and enter the correct settings.
Copy all of your old Timeline clips together. Paste into the new Timeline.
Select all clips, right click one, choose Remove Attributes then deselect the Scale and Distort checkboxes.

Hello all,
I can't open a PP project without this error message appearing:
"The preset used by one or more sequences in this project requires third-party components that could not be located. These sequences will be modified to use a custom sequence setting instead. To continue editing using the original preset, quit the application without saving the project, reinstall any third-party components that are required and reopen the project".
What I had been doing before this occurred was editing a PP project using ProRes sequences and multi-camera editing. Multi-camera was not working very well and after a few attempts to fix that I gave up and finished the job cutting 3 layers of video instead. AME refused to render the three finished sequences of over 1hr duration so rendered final videos from the PP sequences.
I tried deleting plists for AME, PP and QT, repairing disc permissions and rebooting but there was no improvement.
Client is satisfied for now but will want to come back to this job at a later date so decided to uninstall and re-install AME and PP in the hope both would be ready to work properly when needed again. AME works fine in conjunction with a different PP project but now I can't open the PP project in question without the above error message appearing.
Having searched the net it would seem that the problem may be caused by ProRes but I haven't been able to find a definitive solution for the problem. Does anyone know either:
1. How to fix this?
2. If I chose the "modified using a custom sequence setting", can I be sure that my sequences will look the same even if they don't use ProRes? The final deliverable format will be mp4 so as long as the overall look doesn't change then I can afford a change in the edit codec. It's just that with three sequences over an hour long, I don't want days of work to be ruined.
Other older PP projects of mine open and work fine.

Adobe web chat come up with a solution.
Open the PP project.
Export your sequence or project as a Final Cut Pro XML file.
Set up a new PP project.
Import the Final Cut Pro XML file.
This will get you back up an running.
Since getting back to editing this project I have found that some things will be lost or change in using XML:
You will lose position key framing, black video clips, dissolve fx, audio levels, audio dynamic fx, the ability to open a multi camera clip and change the camera view.
You will keep cut points, crop fx.
Not perfect but only took a couple of hours to save 3 days work.

Video camera compatibility for CS5? what sequence setting do I use?

I am new to the extraordinarily complex world of hard drive/hybrid cameras. I have always used tape and firewires with few problems. A student came in today with new camera she just bought a Panasonic SDR –H85. We downloaded a video file, but it would not import into Premiere. I also had no idea which of the dozen new sequence set-ups to use. How do I find out camera compatibility for CS5? (Adobe doesn’t list specific models.) And what sequence setting do I use?

Thanks for your help! For some reason we had a hard time finding these specs. It looks like it is a SD camera, not a High Definition camera (the HD on the side of the camera mistakenly meant Hard Drive, not High Definition?)
At any rate we now need to use the Adobe media encoder to convert the file so that we can import it into Premiere ….all with a loss of quality due to the re-rendering. (btw, what is the best file to re-render?). I suggested that the student who just bought it return it for a camera (preferably High Def) that will work in Premiere. Any suggestions?

What Sequence Setting for 4:3 Aspect Ratio?

Just moved up from FCE to FCS2. Do commercials for small market cable and broadcast in SD 4:3 in FCE. Now in FCP I see a sequence setting for Frame Size Aspect Ratio NTSC DV that shows 3:2 aspect. Not really clear on what this is and after pouring through the manuals and searching this forum, still don't get it.
In the end, I want normal SD 4:3 TV commercials. In FCE, it was a simple NTSC setting. Does my sequence in FCP need to be 4:3 or 3:2? Need a little education on this and can't find any explanation anywhere.

What format is your source? I would never export out of FCP in that manner to achieve a frame rate conversion.
There are a couple of ways to change your footage from 23.98 to 29.97. The easiest I feel, is to select all the clips in your 23.98 sequence using CMD+A. Then copy (CMD+C),create a new 29.97 sequence and paste (CMD+V) those clips into your new sequence. Render and export a Quicktime Movie, Self-Contained.
However, I'm curious if you're shooting in HD based on your 23.98 frame rate. If you are, then you should be using a better SD sequence than DV which is 4:1:1 color sub-sampling. You may be throwing away half of your color information by working in that format.

What I had done to try out the new features in FCP vs. FCE was to create a 23.98 timeline (since I am shooting in SD 24pa with a DVX100A), add a Motion Master Template, add a few jpg's to the drop zones, add 3 NTSC-formatted jpg's to the end for the logos, add a Soundtrack music bed.
For future commercials, will likely be shooting 24pa footage, so wanted to figure out working in a 23.98 sequence. Just had not understood how to get it back to 29.98 for the cable company and broadcast stations. Your advice (copy to new sequence) makes it simple. Hopefully based on this info, I am still on the right track to accomplish my goal. I want to get the 24p look for some clients, but deliver the finished spots via upload to the stations' servers in a QT MOV.
If you have any other advice that would improve things, ready, willing and able to listen. Been Mac-ing since Mac Plus days, but new to FCP. Made the switch from Express with the access to 24p shooting. Thanks.

Anamorphic sequence settings problems w/ a little XML thrown in

After searching long and hard and finding similar problems, yet without seeming to find a solution to mine, I humbly post this.
I have been using FCP since version 1.0 and usually been able to solve all problems, but this one has me vexed.
I am in a major bind. I have a project which needs to be delivered today and I can't figure this out.
I am working on a film shot 16:9. My loading and sequences have all been tagged approriately as DV NTSC 48K Anamorphic. I finished editing the film with no problems until it came time to get notes from the (admittedly) computer-phobe director.
Instead of notes, the director asked if she could take a crack at doing revisions. I never see my family, so I said "have at it!" I backed up my sessions to my internal drive and gave her the firewire drive containing session copies and all loaded footage.
She played around for a week and then told me she could not see the forest for the trees, so could I (quickly) please smooth out the new version and do a compromise between it and the original.
At that point we discovered that she was using FCP 5.0. I am still happily using version 4.5. I got her to export the new version of the sequence as an XML file, which I imported into FCP 4.5 on my system, reconnecting to the media on the drive.
Sorry for that long set up. Here's where the problems start.
The director didn't simply duplicate my sequence and make changes. She created a new sequence and cut and paste portions of mine into it, then added her own parts.
Only she had no idea how to set up FCP properly.
Her new sequence was created as a 4:3. When she pasted footage from mine into hers, it became letterboxed.
I changed the sequence setting to anamorphic, but it just squishes the footage, leaving the matte at the top and bottom.
Upon further inspection, it seems that none of the clips (reconnected from the footage which I originally loaded) is tagged as anamorhic either. (!?) If I retag it, it makes no difference. BUT IT'S THE SAME FOOTAGE I LOADED, WHICH STILL LOOKS FINE IN MY ORIGINAL SEQUENCE!!
She's made too many changes, and her sequence is way too much of a mess with footage everywhere and audio and video disconnected everywhere to reconstruct it easily.
I have to have locked picture by tomorrow!
Why is this happening? Do I have to go back into her FCP 5.0 session to fix this? I'm still running 4.5 (and in the middle of several projects -- I don't want to upgrade now).

Well I discovered the solution finally.
Besides the fact that the seq was 4:3 and not one clip was tagged as anamorphic, I discovered that every single individual clip now had an aspect ratio setting of -33.33 in each clip's respective motion tab. Setting that back at zero for each clip, resetting each clip to anamorphic and changing the seq setting to anamorphic and -- voila! Everything is back to normal.
It seems that when you drop anamorphic footage into a 4:3 timeline, it unchecks the anamorphic tag for that footage and changes the clip's aspect ratio setting to create the letterbox effect. Unfortunately this will have to be reset on each clip to get it back to normal.
I'm glad this is just a short and not a feature. What a pain.

16x9 footage is 4x3 in camvas window. Sequence set to animorphic????

I have searched the threads and can't find the specific answer to fix my issue.
Sequence set to animorphic. Footage shot in squeeze mode on DVX 100A. Digitized via Sony 900 calm shell as animorphic in FCP.
Problem:
When opening 16x9 footage file from bin, opens in canvas window as 4x3 (not 4x3 in 16x9 canvas window - viewer window remains in 16x9). When dropped into sequence, must change aspect ratio back to 0. Clip will not retain aspect setting and reverts back to 4x3 if taken off of timeline. Have to repete process each time. Clips do not need to be rendered.
Any help appreciated.

so when you double click the clip in the browser they open into the viewer window which shows them in their correct aspect (16:9)
but when edited into a sequence it distorts to 4:3 (and the canvas window is 4:3 not 16:9)
this suggests that the sequence settings are actually not set as 16:9 anamorphic
can you recheck them... with the problem sequence open and active, press Cmd-Zero or choose Sequence menu > Settings...
in the settings window check to see if the Anamorphic (16:9) checkbox is checked
if it is please post the exact details of all settings in that sequnece window plus all the format details of one of th eproblem clips (select one in the browser and press Cmd-9)

What sequence setting should I use for a High Quality Video Montage?

I am about to start a new project for a client using photographs only. I have two questions:
1. What should I use for the sequence settings? Should I edit with a HD sequence setting?
2. I am going to scan the pics myself. What Pixel or resolution is appropriate to get the best quality? I'm looking for wide screen 16 x 9, not 3 x 4.

First, decde how you are going to deliver this production to your client. Then tell us what that delivery medium will be. Then we'll have some advice for you.
See the section in the FCP manual on using still images. You need to understand that in video there are only pixels, no dots per inch or lines per inch. Those terms are meaningless in video. You wil sand at a size in raw pixels that is only slightly larger than your delivery format.

As the above log shown, I cannot do any backup command in the RUN bracket and it complains that the character set is not recognized.
This set of error happens when I have create six other Oracle databases in my NT box. Before that, I can manually run the backup with no problem and a backupset has been generated.
If you have come across this problem and have solutions of it. That will be great.

Using translate function to correct character set problem....

I have a table(TBL_STOCK) on Oracle XE.
Rows come from sql server 2005 with a trigger on sql server table via the linked server.
But there is a character set problem with some character like İ,Ş,Ğ.
They change to Ý,Þ,Ð. in Oracle.
How can i correct these ? Do you suggest the TRANSLATE function ?
What do u think, if i create an After Insert trigger on Oracle table(TBL_STOCK) and convert these character using the Translate function when they inserted from sql server.
Anyone have any other ideas that can be more efficient. Any thoughts appreciated.

Final Cut Pro: Sequence Setting Question

I would like to know what the best sequence setting is for my FCP project.
In my project I mostly use digital still images, shot with a digital camera. I import images into FCP and directly drag them onto a sequence.
JPEG file dimensions 3488x2616
For making stop motion animation, the duration of each frame is extremely short, usually 00:00:00;03.
If the project is 60 seconds, it usually ends up with about 550 or more still images on a sequence.
What should be the appropriate sequence setting for it?
Frame Size: currently set for NTSC DV (3:2)
Pixel Aspect Ratio: currently set for NTSC-CCIR601/DV (720x480)
Quicktime Video Settings/Compressor: currently set for DV/DVCPRO-NTSC
in the Advanced field/Frame per Second: currently set for 29.97
Are these settings need to be made before editing the project or could setting changes still be applied to a finished project?
Any advice would be appreciated!!

I export QT movie and make it into a DVD using DVD studio pro.
I was trying to learn about the ProRes the other day but there are many kinds and could not figure out what the best one is for me.
Which prores preset could I use? and could I still change it even the project is done editing?

I am not sure I understand what you are requesting, but ...
You can configure JDeveloper projects to include various libraries by default.
This is done by selecting menu Tools | Default Project Properties.../ Libraries tab.
You should define a library for your classes.
You can import any of the packages / classes from all the libraries which your project includes.
It would be incorrect for a tool to automatically add a bunch of import lines at the top of every file because each file should import what it needs and just as importantly, not import what it does not need depending on the component type (e.g. a servlet should not include javax.swing.* ).
An easy way to import elements into JDeveloper is to type in something like:
import java.
// and then type in Ctrl Space
and this launches the package browser, you can select packages or classes to import.
You can also do this at the variable declaratiton point such as typing in:
foo() {
Frame x
// Press Control Alt Space
and this will correctly change the type (Frame) to the type you select in the package browser and add the import statement.

Reflection function is not working, unable to click on it at all. Need help! Setting problem?

Hi all, I seek for your kind expertise advise on my Keynote. Once I've chosen a slide to open, any type of slide at all, my Reflection button or function is unable to be clicked on to perform that function. However, Shadow function facing no problem.
I can see the Reflection button but it's blurred like not allowing me to click on it at all. Is this cause by some software problem? Or setting problem? iWork has just being installed.

What sequence setting would you use to edit 1280 x1080 DVCProHD (P2) and 1920 x 1080 AVCHD (Sony) in FCP. Experiencing Quality and rendering issues.

What sequence setting would you use to edit both 1280 x1080 DVCProHD (P2) and 1920 x 1080 AVCHD (Sony) in a single timeline in FCP. I'm experiencing quality and rendering issues. I've tried numerous settings but can't seem to figure this one out. Thanks for your assistance.

Although you can combine the avchd 1920x1080 material with prores 1920x1080 in the same timeline, you might land up saving time just converting everything to 1920x1080 prores 422. You'd probably reduce the amount of rendering while you're working and exporting when you're done by a great deal. This workflow will require much more drive space.
