Sequence Settings Changes-

Hello,
I am new to Final Cut Express, but have had no problems troubleshooting using the Support Forums in the past. Currently however,  I am in quite the predicament. The problem first started when I realized that the quality of the video in the Viewer was far greater than that of the Canvas. I then reviewed several posts, and discovered that the sequence settings are set to 720x480, while the footage is 1920x1080. Following the post's "instructions" I attempted to change the sequence settings to match that of the file settings; but to no avail. As additional information, I just started using a GoPro Hero camera, and although I film in the same resolution as my Canon, the Compressor changed from Apple Intermediate Codec to "H.264" on the GoPro footage. Because I have never encountered this problem before, I am fairly certain it has something to do with the new camera. In addition to the Compressor difference, here are other changes since I have imported footage:
I noticed is that in the viewer, the resolution percent was set to 44%, automatically. In the canvas however, it's 132%.
I didn't use log and transfer to import files, because FCE 4 HD wouldn't recognize them, giving me a message about some sort of protection. I proceeded to copy the files onto my hard drive, and then import them into FCE4 through the Import>Files.
Overall, from reading the other posts it sounds like I just need to change the sequence settings. How do I do this...

Select the clips that aren't filling the frame correctly, and then right click on one of them to select "remove attributes". From the dialog box that will open, select "basic motion" then click OK. This should take care of your problem if I'm reading this correctly.

  • Sequence settings changed and digital cinema freezes. what now?

    hello there.
i'm a new fcp user and i could really use some help on some issues that came up while working on a film project.
the material was captured with the camera function of a digital still camera, which resulted in rushes of .avi format, 30 fps, 640X480 frame size.
we then converted these into .mov clips using quicktime and compressor so that we can work without the need to render. we encoded them using the Apple ProRes 422 codec.
i opened a NTSC project to work on this and have created a sequence preset having exactly the same settings as my clips (Apple ProRes 422, 30 fps, etc).
i'm cutting the whole project on a macbook pro (see details below) running fcp 6.0.3 and i'm using a second monitor toggling between browser and digital cinema desktop preview.
everything was working fine till yesterday, when suddently some sequences needed rendering (while they were working fine till then) and dcdp freezed (that is i get the first frame and i can hear the sound when i playback a clip or a sequence and then i get the current frame when i stop it).
i've checked the sequence settings and i've found out that all of my sequences are now pal, 720X576, 25 fps. that's the first part of the problem. i tried changing the sequence settings, but of course i cannot change the frame rate; i've tried creating a new sequence with the correct settings and then copy&paste the clips from the prev sequence but then video and audio go out of synch by 2 frames. how did my settings changed all of a sudden? is there a way to keep my edited sequences without the need to manually re-cut the whole thing?
as far as the second part of the problem is concerned (the dcdp not working anymore), i've tried changing my settings (going from full screen to raw, trying single frame against all frames, etc) but still it doesn't work. the rest of the settings are ok (eg. i've found in the forum that the checkbox about playback mirrored on the desktop should be ticked and it was already).
this computer is never conected to the internet and it has never been manually updated (so there is not a way that an OS update is not working well with fcp).
    any ideas?
    thanx,
    nikos.

I've experienced the exact same problems you are having and it's driving me nuts.
It's not like my system has changed. I bought the Mac Pro and Final Cut Studio together and all was well when I first installed it. That initial project was an HDV project and DCDP worked great.
Since then I'm working mostly on SD PAL projects and when I go to preview it on the desktop it does the first frame freeze when you hit play and parks on the current frame when you hit stop.
I can resize the main edit window to full size and the sequence plays back fine but when I go to DCDP it just won't play at all. It feels like a bug but this is the first time I have found someone else with the same problem. By the way, I'm only using one monitor so the mirror desktop thing made no difference.
I know the DCDP isn't great quality but it's fine for getting a general overview and I sure do miss it.
    Help us.......please......

  • Sequence settings changed after round trip to Audition

I am very far along on a feature project, Premiere Pro 5.5.2, Mac 8 core with 32 g, Matrox MXO2 LE, Nividia Quadro 4000. Editting ProRes 4444 from Arri Alexa 1080p24. After many weeks of difficulties in getting everything to play together, I had many weeks of no problems. The last few days I have begun using the "edit in audition" command. It seemed to work alright at first with some small issues with the play back in Premiere upon return. Instead of editting single clips from a sequence in audition I sent the entire sequence to audition. No problem till I returned to the same sequence in Premiere Pro. The sequence would play but the sequence settings had some problems. I had worked this out earlier when trying to get the MXO to work and used the same system for resetting things those guys had worked out. It did not work this time, instead the sequence settings were changed. I no longer have a Matrox sequence. The Premiere prefs still list the player as Matrox player but it does appear in the sequence settings. I tried opening a new project with Matrox settings just like the previous one. It worked perfectly. My entire project ( 30 different sequences) are no longer a Matrox sequences. Wondering if anyone knows how to return a project and all the sequence settings to its former self.

I've not used 8-bit filters/effects without converting back to 16-bit before saving. I assume an 8-bit version would look somewhat more crayola crayony (as in more towards sRGB). Is this what you are seeing?
As a check, create a new version and roundtrip, make similar adjustments in CS2 and convert back to 16-bit. See what differences you see. I would expect some.

  • Moving Images (jpeg) Sequence Settings

I am making a slide show of pictures from multiple digital cameras. When it renders it ONLY renders to blue and not the typical green. It also takes about 10 minutes to render ten pictures. FCP did not always react in this way and it is driving me crazy how much time this is adding to my editing.
do i need my sequence settings changed? the jpegs are not all the same size
    Working on a C2D 24" iMac with 1GB RAM.

"When it renders it ONLY renders to blue and not the typical green."
Green is not rendered. It means you have real time playback. Blue or Steel Grey (hard to tell on small screens) means the render is complete.
You most likely have large Jpegs that require a fair bit of rendering. 8 megapixel images, for example, are nor really required for use with FCE. Bigger files mean longer render time.

  • How Do I Change My Sequence Settings to Match My Clip

    Hello -
I shot some footage in SD with a frame size of 16:9. When I dragged a clip into my first sequence, FCP asked 'if I wanted the Sequence to assume the properties of the clip?' I hit 'yes' which changed the sequence to match my clip. However, when I created a new sequence(in the same project) and dragged a clip into it, FCP did not prompt me with the option to change the sequence settings. Now, I have a 4:3 sequence with a letterbox 16:9 clip. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks for your help!

  • How to change sequence settings without CC 7.1 update?

Well, i was hoping that Adobe will release 7.1 update on October 15th, as promised on some websites. I don't recall, maybe it was Creative COW or any other.
That's why i have created 720p PRORES proxies for 9x multi-camera live performance shoot which lasts for 2 hours for lag free, fast editing.
I have sucessfully edited it and promised my clients that on October 16th they will get the whole show in 1080p, high quality.
So, there is no update yet, and yes, i can relink files to original 1080p, but the multicam sequence is capped to 720p and i simply can't find a way to change it's size.
The old fashion copy/paste way from one sequence to another does not work, since 720p sequence is linked to multicam edits. In CS6 i could edit ".prproj" file in text editor to change any properties (including sequence properties), but right now in CC, .prproj file contains binary data only, so i can't do it that way either.
Maybe someone knows any other way to change sequence settings right now, or what is the exact day for 7.1 release?
    Thank you!

    Hi Paolon!
You need to extract your .prproj using WinRAR to a text .prproj file, then use some text editor such as Notepad to search and replace sequence dimensions
For example find "1920" and replace it to "1280" if it looks like Īt belongs to a sequence definition.
I don't recall how it was called, maybe "VideoFrameRect" or something similar.
First create some very simple project to experiment with, and always make a backup copy in case something goes wrong

  • FCP 7 crashes when choosing "yes" to changing of sequence settings for Flip

I've been doing quite a bit of work with the Flip HD video camera recently. I grew tired of rendering everything, so decided it was time to finally upgrade from FCP 5 to FCP 7.
However, FCP 7 crashes every time I try to lay down video files from the Flip camera onto a timeline.
Upon laying the files down onto the timeline, I am prompted with the message asking if I want to change the sequence settings to match the video. I click yes and immediately get "General Error" and FCP crashes.
I tried trashing the preferences. same result.
I tried updating FCP 7 to FCP 7.0.1. same result.
I even tried updating fixes for iMovie as if that would have anything to do with it. same result.
I'm currently rendering it out the same way I had been in FCP 5.
    Any advice or ideas?

AVC is h.264, which is not a work-able editing format, it's a delivery format (and a consumer video camera acquisition format suitable for holiday videos going straight to YouTube), that's why you've been having to render all the time in FCP 5.
Now you're in FCP 7 and it's asking if you want to change the sequence settings to match the video, but there is no sequence setting to match AVC/h.264 so it's freaking your computer out. Still, it shouldn't crash, but that's the problem i believe.
You need to correct your work-flow by transcoding your media into something usable like ProRes, or you can choose not to change your sequence settings, and render the timeline as you have been doing in the past.

  • Application Crashes/Quits when attempting to change sequence settings

Application (Final Cut Pro 4) suddenly quits/crashes when attempting to changwe sequence settings. How can this be fixed.
Also changes made in "user preferences", "timeline options" are not saved.
Also, audio wave forms no longer show up in "timeline".

    Welcome to the discussions, Streetart.
This was a bug in 4.0 - you need to upgrade to at least 4.1 to fix it - you can go all the way to 4.5 for free...

  • Changing Sequence Settings for HD

    Hi Gang
    Working with FC6
I work mostly with Standard Def, but I have a few pieces/clips of HD.
If I change the Sequence Settings here, as prompted, will ALL the sequence settings also be changed to exisiting Projects which contain mostly Standard Def?
The plan is to integrate a few pieces of HD footage to other standard footage in the same timeline.
    Thanx
    Mike

"I understand you have a DV timeline already setup"
    Yes
"when you bring in an HD shot FCP should automatically resize and letterbox it (if you are in a 4:3 timeline) No prompts."
Actually initially there is a warning/prompt to reset settings; http://www.locationstudio.net/Sequence%20Settings.jpg
I will say NO to this prompt, edit the clip, drag it down, and resize manually 120%, (I don't use wide screen format).
    Thanx

  • Changed sequence settings to match source footage but only half footage now matches even though they're from the same camera and same aspect ratio

My source footage is 1920 X 1080 from a canon 60D. I changed my sequence settings to Digital SLR 1920 X 1080 to match. On the program window I have it set at "Fit". Only about a quarter of my footage now fits the program screen and looks to be the matching aspect ratio. The rest of the footage when on "fit" fills a tiny portion of the viewing window so it appears they don't match the sequence settings. I don't understand why this is happening because this footage is from the same camera, shot the same day, and have the same aspect ratios.
Can anyone tell me why this is happening and how I can fix it??

First of all, the setting that you mention is on Fit is the Zoom Level of the Program Monitor. It controls only how the sequence is shown in that monitor; it has nothing to do with how any sources are handled in the sequence.
    Please provide the following information:
    Exact version of Premiere Pro
    Exact version of operating system
    Graphics card and driver
Also, please post a screenshot showing the following
Project panel with the Video Info column visible
    the Timeline visible
one of the problematic clips selected and the Effect Controls panel visible, with the Motion section twirled open.

  • Changing Sequence Settings?

Guys, I think I may have made a major boo boo!
I edited a sequence but when I render it certain parts (mainly the ones with speed adjustments) stutter.
I think I forgot to change the sequence setting prior to beginning the edit. It normally asks me if I want to chance the settings to match the clip but it didn't this time round for some reason!
I went and changed the sequence setting but now the canvas shows a smaller version of the footage even though it matches the clip settings.

what are the clip format properties (select a clip and press Cmd-9)
what are the sequence settings (with timeline active press Cmd-zero)
try Modify menu > Conform to Sequence ... it will adjust attributes of selected clip instances to better match the sequence settings inc. adding (or removing) shift field filters to compensate for field order errors if/where possible to predict a mismatch.
that said, some issues are unfixable. it may be that the juddering you see is because the speed changes you are applying are not suitable for the clip content (pans, zooms etc)
    best
    Andy

  • My sequence settings have changed - inexplicably

I have loaded up a project i was working on yesterday and i can't understand why but my sequence settings appear to have changed from what they were initially set to.
    They should be and were:
    Frame size: HD 1440 x 1080 (16:9)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD (1440x1080)
    Field Dominance: Upper (Odd)
    Compressor: DVCPRO HD 1080i50.
    Now they are:
    Frame size: 720x576 CCIR 601 / DV PAL (5:4)
Pixel Aspect Ratio: PAL - CCIR 601 (720x576)
    Field Dominance: Lower (Even)
    Compressor: DV - PAL
So now in effect I have HD footage on an SD anamorphic timeline. When I change the settings to the correct ones, it stretches and shrinks the footage.
How do I correct this without having to recut the whole thing?
    Thanks
    Jeremy

Reset the settings to what they should be. Then go to a single clip, and reset it's Basic Motion and Distortion in the Motion tab of the Viewer. Copy this clip, select all of your other clips, right-click, choose "Paste Attributes", and check Basic Motion and Distort.
An even faster way to do it: select all in the timeline, then command option v. Then tick the Distot and Basic Motion checkmarks and press OK.
Note that any changes you've made in Basic Motion and Distort on your clips already will be lost (i.e. a "Ken Burns" pan/zoom on a shot or image).
Correct. Also for the workflow I sugested
Not sure if there's a way to do it without losing that information, maybe someone else will pipe up.
No. that is not possible. Both methods will reset all those information and you'll need to redo them.

  • Downconverting HD to SD:  Change Sequence Settings or. Motion Tab ???

I'm working with 1080i DVCPro HD footage, which am editing in HD. The client wants me to deliver the project file with HD and SD sequences (with identical cuts) but SD Quicktime renders.
So the HD sequences are easy ... under Sequence Settings I have these specs, which allow me to edit the footage without having to render:
Frame Size 1280x 1080, Aspect Ratio HD (1280x1080)(16x9)
Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD (1280x1080) - Ananmorphic NOT checked
    Field Dominance: Upper (odd)
    Editing Timebase: 29.97
    Compressor: DVCPro HD 1080i60
SO ... the best way to downconvert to SD ... I'm figuring copying the HD sequences after the edits are done, and then changing Sequence Settings to these specs:
Frame Size: 720x480 NTSC DV (3:2)
Pixel Aspect Ratio: NTSC - CCIR 601 DV (720x480) - Anamorphic NOT checked
    Field Dominance: Lower (even)
    Editing Timebase: 29.97
    Compressor: DV/DVCPro NTSC
I'm not delivering Anamorphic; the SD renders will have letterboxing. BUT unless I tweek the footage's Motion settings, it still looks distorted. The footage looks the most normal after shrinking the Scale to 60% of original, and changing the Aspect Ratio to -60.
But I'm just eye-balling things ... is there a precise rule for downconverting this HD format to standard SD ?

Umm well OK I found the Advanced Format Conversion option in Compressor, and am testing that out now.
But for academics, let's just say I want to convert the sequences also ... as in, exporting normal SD Quicktimes directly from FCP's sequence without using compressor ... which Sequence Settings and Motion Settings would I change?

  • FCP Adding two frames to Starting Timecode change in Sequence Settings

Hi I am trying to change my starting timecode in my sequence to 09:58:00;00 but FCP keeps adding an extra two frames to make it start at 09:58:00;02 - my sequence is in DF. I am changing this by going into Sequence Settings > Timline Options > Starting Timecode. Anyone else have this problem? It's awfully frustrating - perhaps a glitch?

IF you ripped to DV NTSC, it should have come in as DF.
What are the specs of the Digibeta material?
Are you delivering on Digibeta or as a QT file?
Is your client asking for a master beginning with 09:58:00:00 DF starting timecode? You could set the starting timecode for 09:57:29:00, then add an additional second of black at the head of the timeline. The client is most likely needing DF timecode for 'show timing' purposes...is this to go to broadcast?

  • How to change '2 Outputs' to '1 Stereo' in Sequence Settings

Any ideas how to change audio to '2 Outputs' to '1 Stereo' in Sequence Settings of FCP5.1.4? I'm always having to render my audio after importing!

    My about-box reads:
    "Studio Edition Version 10.1.3.1.0.3984"
"Build JDEVADF_10.1.3.1.0_NT_061009.1404.3984" (arrgh, please make an option to copy/paste this...)
Have you accidentally switched 2 ciphers, Frank? By the way, I found the reason for this - I had set the "J2SE version" under "Libraries" to "1.4.2_06" earlier to make sure about 1.4.2 compatibility - but since we soon don't need this any longer, I'm switching this value to 1.5.0 to be able to fully utilize 1.5 options in my code.
So... I guess we can say, that this was my own fault.
    Thanks,
    Jacob
