Sequence size different from clip size = need to render?

Dear All
I would like to edit DV-Pal clips (720*576) in a sequence that has identical settings except the frame size: 1440*576. The final product is then a video with the width of 2(720576).
If I drag into that sequence a clip, FCP asks me to render it. Is there a way around this (for a basic real time edit)? I lowered render options (in sequence settings) to a minimum, still it needs to render. I lowered sequence resolution to half the desired output (720*288) still it wants me to render.
I coudn't find any thread discussing this problem.
thank you,
Hynek

Dear Michael
I don't intend to do a stereoscopic movie. Still I see similarities, or am I wrong.
I would like to run different clips next to each other, and sometimes I would like to stretch one clip over the whole 1440*575 canvas (of course loosing some image at the top and bottom).
The only way I found around rendering my sequence all the time, is to edit my video in a 720*576 sequence by dragging two clips in, resizing them to 50%, and putting them next to each other (each on a different track). Once I have done my edit I take each cut into the 1440*576 sequence and I scale each clip to 100 percent (with copy attributes). I have to do some repositioning of the clips on the canvas (again time can be saved with copy attributes). Then I render it all ONCE.
now is there an faster way? can I learn something from your work flow?
greetings,
H

  • IMovie 11 file size differs from the size it becomes in iDVD

I've made a movie in iMovie 11, and the file size in the finder information window says that it is 667MB, but when I sent it to iDVD it was too big for a single dvd.  What are my options?  Really would rather not have to chop things out...

Just to clarify, and to add to zyfert's advice, the Best Performance encoding setting allows a duration up to one hour only, including themes and menus, for a single layer DVD. High Quality and Professional Quality give you up to 2 hours (as mentioned by Lennart). But to maintain optimum quality, it's probably best not to exceed your current project duration of 95 minutes (you may need an extra few minutes for menus).
I appreciate that all this can be inferred from Lennart's and zyfert's excellent advice, but just wanted to expand on it a little.

  • Library size differs from Vault size

I just made a new Aperture Vault. My Aperture Library file is 41.66GB. My Vault file is 35.41GB.
    Why are these different?
I have consolidated the library as well, so I am sure that the issue is not related to referenced files.
    Thanks,
    ~BC

Thanks for that. Does my vault size (85% of the library size) seem about right to you?
I only ask because the whole point of the vault is to be sure nothing is lost ... so I want to be sure I have this set up properly.
    Thanks,

  • Is there a way to "print" a raster image to a size differing from the artboard, just as w/vectors?

when you print from illustrator you can specify to fit a paper size
that's different from the artboard being used. I want raster images that differ in size from the artboard - is this
possible? Or would figuring out the pixels based on a dpi and a sheet size be the equivalent?

I'm not clear what you describe. Sounds to me like you are confusing the rasterization on the printer/ in the printer driver with actually resizing. All that happens when you fit content on a page for printing is to change the overall ratio of paper vs. content vs. rasterization grid and that is a mere technical thing. Works for vectors and bitmaps. however, AI having a track record of being extremely picky about what it prints, you'd probably do better saving a PDF and printing from Acrobat.

  • Clip size different to frame size in sequence-

    Hi all,
I'm editing on FCP 5.1.4, and need to edit 720 x 576 DV PAL interlaced footage on a timeline that's 720 x 398 for output for a web video.
When I drop the clips onto the timeline, the clips are rescaled to 69.1%, and when enlarged back to 100%, seem to have noticeable interlace lines during any movement in the shot.
What is the best way to do this? Is it to edit on a normal aspect timeline, then at the end, change the sequence frame dimensions to 720 x 398?
Or rescale each clip at a time in a sequence that's already set to 720 x 398?
    Many thanks for your help.

I'd recommend editing in a Timeline that matches your native footage. Save the downconversion (for web) until your ready to export.

  • Make spry child font size different from parent

    Hi you all,
Hi am using the old spry menu. This works for me so i dont need the spry ui menu.If you want to make the child text font sixe and padding different create your own selectors.
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul li a
        font-size: 12px;
        padding: .2em 1em;
works fine instead of having every thing been the same.

    thank you very much, Nancy!

Possibly.  It's hard to tell without seeing your page, though.

The position of Spry Menu Bar submenus is controlledby the margin
    property on submenu ul tags.
    1. Locate the ul.MenuBarVertical ul or ul.MenuBarHorizontalul rule.
    2. Change the margin: -5% 0 0 95%; default values to the desired
    values.

Also, look through the CSS coments for IE hacks. Often these
workarounds for older browsers can be commented out or deleted.
Test before you delete anything permanently.

  • Font Size different from same jsp

Its beahving unusual with such different font sizes, does not look formatted.

  • Can tablespace block size different from the database block size

I have a 10.2.0.3 database in Unix system.
I created a database used default block size of 8k. However, the client application requires 16k block size database. Can I work around to create a tablespace that has 16k block size instead of drop the database to recreate the database.
    Thanks a lot!

As Steven pointed out, you certainly can.
I would generally question, though, whether you should.
    - Why does the application require 16k block sizes? If this is a custom application, it almost certainly doesn't really require 16k blocks. If this is a packaged application, it probably doesn't really require 16k blocks. If 16k blocks are a requirement for support, I would wager that having the application's objects in 16k block size tablespaces in a database with 8k blocks would not be supported.
    - Mixing block sizes increases the management complexity of your database, potentially substantially. You need to specify a completely separate buffer cache for the 16k blocks, a buffer cache that would not be integrated with Oracle's automatic SGA management functionality. Figuring out how to split up the buffer cache between 8k and 16k blocks tends to be rather hard (particularly if the mix changes over time), which means that DBAs are going to be spending substantially more time managing the SGA in this sort of system than in a vanilla 10.2.0.3 system. And that DBAs will have many more opportunities to set things up incorrectly.

  • Why is page size different from my original Illustrator file?

My art board in Illustrator CS6 was set to the correct dimensions (4.25" x 5.5") with an added bleed (set to .125"). However, when I save as a PDF and viewed the resulting document in Acrobat Pro, there is now almost a half-inch ADDED to the overall page size of the document!  This has never happened to me before when saving documents as PDFs. Is there a setting somewhere that I can change to make this stop happening?

Check the bleed and page framing settings in the PDF export dialog.

  • TLF Font Size different from Word, Excel, Google Docs

I have Times New Roman size 10 font.  In Word, Excel, and Google Docs the height of "Mg" in pixels is 12 but in my application and in the TLF Demo application the height is 9 pixels.
    Anyone know why?
    Thanks

fontSize in FlashPlayer is in pixels not points and FlashPlayer has a 72 DPI screen resolution (see flash.system.Capabilities.screenDPI).  These other apps may have a better handle on actual screen DPI.  You could try scaling the fontSize setting.

  • Export - QuickTime Move (self contained) - different from project size

I've been chasing a problem of my iMac not being able to play back finished videos, possibly because I don't have enough computer power (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3318100?tstart=0)
While looking at this I just realized something - the completed video is 1920x1080, even though the original source files and FCE project properties are all at 1440x1080.
Is that normal? If not, where should I start looking to find whatever is wrong?

Yes, it is normal.  It's a difference between rectangular pixels and square pixels.

  • Output movie size differs from specified

I created a Cativate movie sized 800 by 600 and did not resize it before compiling. The finished version is 803 by 629. In IE9 I have ensured the View setting is 100 percent. Is this a known anomalie with Captivate 5?

    Hello,
The pixels added to the height are due to a playbar, which is set outside of the captured space. The other pixels are perhaps due to a border?
You have ot take into account space for a playbar and/or eventually for a TOC set up in separate mode (250px wide at least).

  • ITunes size different from "iTunes music" folder size!

When i select "Library > Music" in my iTunes (which displays all my music), i find that t the bottom of my iTunes 8.2, there is the information for my iTunes library. it is 4058 songs, 11.4days, 18.83gb
however, when i go to Finder > music > itunes > iTunes music, it shows a much higher value. like 20gb or sth.
i suspect this is because sometimes when i delete songs, i accidentally click "keep file" instead of "move to trash"
how do i reconcile this program and ensure that songs i don't like and have "deleted" are not taking up space in my HD anymore?

I believe this script should do what you want.

  • Lightroom 1.1 export size different then import size

Just recevied lightroom 1.1. My camera a D200 puts out a 10x7 image and when export to photoshop the size comes out to be 16x10 at 360 rez. Can you control the export size

You can control the size in the Export menu that pops up when you click on the export button or File > Export. Use the Image Settings section. Set the resolution and then "Constrain Maximum Size". Fill in both boxes with the same value (which allows for both vertical and horizontal images). LR will enlarge or reduce the size as required. For example, if you want an 8 x 10, you would put 10" into both of the Constain Maximum Size boxes.

  • Sequence and Capture Settings Match, Still Need To Render

I am capturing my video footage through a AJA Kona board using the SDI input. I have set my capture setting in FCP to 525 29.97 DV, and have set my sequence setting to match, also 525 29.97 DV. Yet when I overwrite the footage to the the sequence it needs to be rendered. I was under the impression that if the sequence and capture settings match I would not have to render. Is this not true?

The orginal footage is not DV, it is DVCPRO 25. I am capturing in the DV setting because of the length of the footage. The DVCPRO deck doesn't have a firewire output.
