Sequence won't stay rendered (!?)

I have a 3-minute Hi-def sequence that contains many clips I have speeded up to 300%. Yesterday it was all rendered and I exported w/QT Conversion and uploaded to You Tube with no problems and a decent result, for You Tube.
Now I'm trying to Print to Video for my good copy on tape. The sequence was rendered just ahead of the PTV (Render All>Both>Needs Render (I unchecked all the other items - Proxy, Preview, etc.)) There were no red bars or red & black-striped clips in the Timeline when the Render was done.
As the "Transcoding to HDV" phase started it looked like all or most of the speeded-up clips in the Timeline reverted to that red & black "Needs Render" picture. Is there some special problem about rendering speeded-up clips for printing to HDV tape?
Only other thing I can think of is that yesterday I disconnected my media drive (the G-Raid) after the Mac was turned off, and when I restarted I got a nasty message from the operating system about the right way to disconnect the device. Could I have lost something crucial to FCE? (3.5.1) Since that reconnect, I have needed to "reconnect files" every time I've restarted FCE, and I wasn't needing to do that before.
Any guidance appreciated. Just when things were going so well!

ADDENDUM the Print to Video just finished, and it seems to have worked fine - the sequence is on tape - but WHY was it displaying in the Timeline as if it needed rendering????

FCE is non-destructive.
That means that the only _real media_ is stored on the Scratch Disc location.
All the stuff in the Browser and Timeline are file paths linking to the Real media files. When names are changed outside FCE or you move something around like a Scratch Disc, FCE has lost the path and spits up a warning message or OFF-Line slashes through the Browser and Timeline entries.
Render files are little media files that FCE creates to play at the appropriate time and also rely on file path info. These of course can be deleted and re-created by re-rendering. I like to have these on the Scratch Disc as they can use considerable space.
What worries me most is that the whole "project," which is based on about six hours of HDV >underwater footage, is somehow corrupt now, and I don't even know where to start with what to >throw away and what to keep.
Render files can be re-done.
Scratch Disc files (captures from camera) NEVER delete unless you are absolutely sure or you will have to re-capture. HDV does not allow you to re-capture using the FCE Capture Project feature as does mini DV.
If you gave each clip unique names during capture there's a chance you can trace the render files, if not, it's a minefield of an Untitled meaningless bunches of numbers.
Hope my explanation helps but I would have thought you could get this thing going without re-rendering. You could be right, that they are corrupted. Corruption is likely when any sort of storage is removed, particularly if it was doing something at the time.

Clips Won't Stay Rendered

This problem is driving me crazy - hopefully I'm being an idiot and missing something really simple.
I'm editing a fairly small clip in Premiere Pro 6.0.5. About 60 seconds of 1080p at 25fps. Just to confirm, the sequence settings do match the clips.
When I hit return to render my sequence everything seems to be working correctly. I get a green bar across my sequence, everything looks great. But then I immediately get a progress bar at the bottom right of my screen saying 'Indexing Rendered' and a seemly random string of numbers and letters. As this 'indexing rendered' bar progresses, my clips turn from green to red. Looks like I have to render again! But when I do, the same thing happens... And without the rendered clips, naturally I can't really see what I'm doing in the preview window. It stutters and stalls. Any idea what I've done?
PC settings:
Windows 8.1 - 64 bit.
Intel i5 Processor - 3.40 GHz.
8 GB RAM
2GB on the video card.
20+ GB on the scratch disk (I'm actually just using my C drive).
If I've missed any relevant info, please let me know.

This usually indicates that your clip properties do not match your sequence settings.
Please tell us what your clip & sequence properties are. We can't help you without that information. To do this, control-click the clip name in the FCE Browser, then select Item Properties, then tell us what it says for Vid Rate, Frame Size and Compressor. Do the same with your sequence.

Clip wont stay rendered

The DIVX clip I imported won't stay rendered. I render it, the red and orange lines dissappear, but then reappear just a short while later. Any ideas what may be causing this?

The DV codec comes with QuickTime. It's on your computer. Streamclip is free.
If you need to rip a DVD that's in MPEG-2 then you need to get the MPEG-2 Playback Component from Apple. It costs $20. The reason not to use Handbrake is that it rips for iPods and iPhones not for production formats.
You don't have to live here if you use the search box. There's a ton of information on the forum that can easily be accessed with a quick search, just like the meaning of codec.

Highlighting text won't stay on

When I highlight text it often won't stay on, and when it does and I try to move the selection, it just beeps at me and sits there. What's up?

Ok. In System Preferences > General, Apple applies the term “Highlight” instead of “Selection” color.
In Pages v5(.2), I select a passage of text and it reflects my first sentence color setting. You can leave this alone and visit any menu or side panel setting, and the selection in the body text will remain selected. It will remain selected, if you leave the Pages document and click in another application. When you return to this Pages document, click anywhere but the body text to regain document focus. The next click in the body text should be a click/hold/drag on the selection to move it, or a press of the space bar to remove the selected text. This is mouse-based behavior.
If you are using a Trackpad, whether built-in or external, you must be very careful not to brush against it while in your Pages document, or your selection focus will be lost.
I am using the above Pages on OS X 10.9.4 and do not experience a loss of selection, or an inability to drag/move or remove the selection. I have tried with both mouse and Trackpad following the preceding guidelines and cannot reproduce what you have stated.

New Pioneer DVR-110 installed, "patchburned", BUT drive won't stay closed.

Have had some good advice on how to intall a new DVD/CD drive, but after installing a New Pioneer DVR-110 (I thought succesfully) on my G4, and downloading Patchburn for Panther, the DVD drive now won't function as the computer keeps ejecting or opening the drive tray.
After installing the drive, I installed Patchburn, and Toast did recognize the drive. I then tried to verify disc permissions on the computer and it kept getting hung up during repair/verify saying it lost connection with the drive manager. Tried Onyx to repair/verify permissions and it too gets hung up. (Had to force quit)
Any advice on how to get the drawer of the DVD drive to stay closed and what else I need to do to get it working?... Alas I can not even reinstall my original OSX software now as I can't boot from the disc drive since it won't stay closed.

You can verify the closeness by opening the empty drive door with the KB and then hold the door open and close drawer with the KB.

Try removing the Genius database. In the "Finder" go to the /username/Music/iTunes/ folder and delete the "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file. This may allow the program to launch again. This file will be recreated upon first use of the "Genius" feature.

4. Under the "Print Processors" sub-key DELETE ALL THE SUB-KEYS EXCEPT "winprint" key
5. Start the Print Spooler service.
6. Test to see if you can Add a printer.

How recently did you switch? If it's less than 60 days, then Verizon simply reinstates your previous account. The fact that you were on the EDGE plan and mailed the devices back, and they apparently are somewhere in the system, could cause complications, and it might just work out that you just go back on the same plan and they set you up with the same devices. I'm not sure how it will go - but since you are still being billed for the devices...

IPod Nano won't stay mounted

Hi this is my first post and hope someone can help. My problem is that when I attach my nano to my computer it will mount on the desktop, open iTunes check and see that it is update, which it is and then it umounts from the desktop within a few seconds. It remains in the iTunes window so I can access the nano preferences but then when I hit apply it searches for the nano and since it is not on the desktop says it can not find it. The iPod is not in the finder window but shows up in the system profiler as being attached to the USB. I am up to date on iTunes and the nano updater says it is up to date running 2006-06-28. I have tried everything such as restarting, using different USB ports, etc... to no avail. When I run the updater it stays mounted on the desktop but I can not acces the preferences. I really need to change my nano preferences as it will not update my new playlists because prefs, are set to update only the checked ones and I can not changes this and apply it if the nano won't stay mounted. Can anyone help? Much thanks

This happened to me when using iTunes 6. Is that the version you are using? I was never able to find a complete answer to the "Preferences not saved" error or any knowledge base articles with an official explanation. I did however find a workaround in a previous discussion. Connect your iPod and in the short time that it is still visible on the desktop just as iTunes is opening, go to Preferences>iPod and tick "enable disk use". You have to be quick but it can be done. Once it is enabled you will be able to go back and update the preferences such as manual update etc. and and you'll not get the error.
If you are using iTunes 7 try the same technique only tick "enable disk use" in the Summary tab before your iPod unmounts.

When I boot up my Mac, Messages opens automatically. I quit the app, but it just re-opens itself. It won't stay off!!! I can't figure out what's wrong with it!

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

Image Adjustments won't stay on

Hey everybody, I'm Steven! I'm working on a sci-fi mural spacescape for my art class, and I'm having a bit of difficulty in the star scape area. See, whenever I do anything in the "Image > Adjustments" tab at the top of Photoshop, the preview on my page makes it look just how I want it, but after I click OK, or Apply, it either goes right back to how it was before I did the adjustment, or it does it to a degree, it just goes back halfway.
For instance, when I click "add noise", then go to Image > Adjustments > Levels to thin the noise out to resemble stars, as a base layer to my starscape, and get it perfect, with the right amount of contrast and everything, when I click OK, it just goes back to big ugly noise. Now, I've added adjustment layers, but those effect everything under them, and I kind of need this to be specific. I've tried changing my mode to 32, 16 and 8 bit, as well as from RGB to CYMK and others. If anyone could help me out, I'd be really grateful! Thanks!
(P.S. I'm using CS4, if that helps)

Well, I did have one file that looked similar to it in the directory I was opening it from, so to be safe, I moved it and tried again, but it didn't work. The thing is, when I do Image > Adjustments, the preview on my actual canvas looks good, but when I click OK to lock it in, it just goes back to the way it was before, or kinda how I wanted it, but only a fraction, like half power. And when I save it, it also won't stay on. It will keep effect if I add an adjustments layer, and give me the desired effect, but it affects all the layers below it, not just the one I want, and it will revert to what it was before the effect if I save it as anything but a .PSD, for instance a .PNG, it will go back to white noise, not stars, just like Image > Adjustments. I did both Save and Save As, but they both had the same outcome. Haha, it seems I've really gotten myself in a pickle. Thanks for helping me out -
