Sequences in Acrobat DC

I rely heavily on the «Flatten fields and comments» sequence, for the purpose of securing a pemanent mark-up of pdf documents. Usage is primarily my signature, otherwise exhibit numbers/identifiers in legal pleadings.
In DC the previous sequence appears to not work or to not be compatible. For whichever reason; ease of migration and use of DC obviously not among them.
the question is, is there any way to make the old sequence work in DC or is there a similar sequence for DC?

  • Running a batch sequence in Acrobat 11

    Hi All:
       I am running a batch sequence in Acrobat 11 on the Mac and as quickly and conciesly as I can, I want to outline the steps in the process:
    1.)  Select the batch sequence to be run.
    2.)  Select the files upon whic to run the batch sequence.
    3.)  Click Start.
    4.)  The text of the script appears on the screen, highlighted.
    5.)  Click OK to close the script editor and run the script on the first file.
    6.) The text of the script appears on the screen, highlighted.
    7.)  Click OK to close the script editor and run the script on the first file.
    8.) The text of the script appears on the screen, highlighted.
    9.)  Click OK to close the script editor and run the script on the first file.
    <continue the last two steps for each document you process>
    If the user has selected thirty documents to process in this sequence run, then she must see the script apear thirty times, and must press the OK button thirty times to actually run the script on the next Acrobat document.  Ditto for sixty and ninety documents.This is cumbersome and tedious not to mentionn dangerous to the script.  Im ny preactice run I accidently tapped teh spacebar and completely wiped the script!.  Is there any way to tell the program to skip displaying the script at the start of each cycle and just move on to the next job?

    Click the commands you added to the Action and make sure that none of them has the "Prompt User" check-box underneath it ticked.

  • Additional Batch Sequences for Acrobat 9 Pro

    In my downloaded version of Acrobat 9 Pro, there are only a few batch sequences.
    The last time I bought Acrobat on a CD was version 5, and many additional batch sequences came on the CD.  By "additional" I mean that they were not automatically installed when Acrobat was installed, but they could be installed manually.  One could simply copy the additional batch sequences from the CD into the Acrobat installation, after which all of them would be available via the Acrobat interface.
    Is the same true with a CD version of Acrobat 9 -- i.e., has the Acrobat 9 CD additional batch sequences that can be copied into the Acrobat installation?
    If so, is it possible for a user of the downloaded version of Acrobat 9 Pro to obtain those additional batch sequences?
    On my Acrobat 5 CD, the additional batch sequences were in --
    (optical drive letter):\Batch\Sequences
    In my Acrobat 9 Pro installation (under Windows XP Pro), one would copy additional batch sequences to --
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Sequences\ENU
    In both Acrobat 5 and Acrobat 9, it appears that the names of all batch sequence files end in the extension .sequ
    I would particularly like to obtain the "List all Bookmarks" batch sequence.  I copied that sequence from the Acrobat 5 CD to the Acrobat 9 installation, and it "sort-of" works.  The main problem is that its list of bookmarks is limited to one page, regardless of the number of bookmarks.  Any bookmarks that would be listed on pages 2, 3 etc. of the list of bookmarks are not listed at all.
    Is it possible for me to download or otherwise obtain the Acrobat 9 "List all Bookmarks" batch sequence?
    Thanks!

    Thank you, try67, for that insight.
    Here is the "List all Bookmarks" batch sequence from the Acrobat 5 CD:
    /* List all Bookmarks */
    /* Recursively work through bookmark tree  */
    function PrintBookmarks(bm, nLevel)
        if (nLevel != 0) { // don't print the root
            bmReport.absIndent=bmTab*(nLevel-1);
            bmReport.writeText(util.printf("%s",bm.name));
        if (bm.children != null)
              for (var i = 0; i < bm.children.length; i++)
                PrintBookmarks(bm.children[i], nLevel + 1);
    bmTab = 20;
    bmReport = new Report();
    bmReport.size = 2;
    bmReport.writeText(this.title);
    bmReport.writeText(" ");
    bmReport.size = 1.5;
    bmReport.writeText("Listing of Bookmarks");
    bmReport.writeText(" ");
    bmReport.size = 1;
    PrintBookmarks(this.bookmarkRoot, 0);
    global.bmRep = bmReport;  // make global
    global.wrtDoc = app.setInterval(
        'try {'
        +'       reportDoc = global.bmRep.open("Listing of Bookmarks");'
        +'       console.println("Executed Report.open");'
        +'       app.clearInterval(global.wrtDoc);'
        +'       delete global.wrtDoc;'
        +'       console.println("Executed App.clearInterval");'
        +'       reportDoc.info.title = "Bookmark Listings";'
        +'       reportDoc.info.Author = "A. C. Robat";'
        +'} catch (e) {console.println("Waiting...: " + e);}'
        , 100);
    I am not a programmer, and so would be grateful if you would advise how that sequence should be modified to incorporate your suggestion.
    Thanks!

  • Pdf image sequence in QT Pro

    I am running QT Pro 7.2.0.
    I frequently make Quicktime animations of image sequences of jpeg files using QT Pro "Open As Image Sequence". Works great.
    I now have a sequence of pdf files, (created by Acrobat Distiller from postscript files) and when I try to make an image sequence, all the images after the first one are either garbled or blank.
    I have looked at each pdf file and they look normal.
    Has anyone successfully made QT movies from pdf file sequences? What am I missing?
    Thanks.

    Thank you.
    I don't have to use .pdf's. I am trying to find the most direct path from a series of postscript files to a Quicktime image sequence.
    Acrobat distiller will convert a series of postscript images to .pdf's with a single "click".
    I don't know of a way to do the same conversion from postscript to .jpg's. Preview requires you to convert each image individually, AFAICT.
    I'd be happy to go from postscript to .jpg directly if it can be done painlessly.
    These are simple .pdf files. I opened one in Acrobat and checked. I am also able to open the individual files with QT and they look as I expect them to.
    If you try to open a series of postscript files with Quicktime Open Image Sequence, the .ps files are greyed out. .pdf files do show up as "openable", so it seems like this ought to work.
    I have also tried it with QT version 7.1.6 with the same result.

    If you are updating Acrobat 9 by manually downloading the patches then you have to follow the sequence below:
    Acrobat 9.0.0 -> 9.1.0 (Quarterly) -> 9.1.2 (Quarterly) -> 9.2.0 (Quarterly) -> 9.3.0 (Quarterly) -> 9.3.2 (Quarterly) -> 9.3.3 (Quarterly) ->  9.4.0 (Quarterly) -> 9.4.2 (Quarterly) -> 9.4.5 (Quarterly) -> 9.4.6 (Quarterly) -> 9.5.0 (Quarterly) -> 9.5.1 (Quarterly)-> 9.5.2 (Quarterly)-> 9.5.3 (Quarterly)-> 9.5.5 (Quarterly)

  • QT crashes with PDF image sequence

    A script generates 72 small (ca. 1100 bytes) pdf files as movie frames and I "Open Image Sequence...". The movie, whether saved or not, crashes at a certain point.
    All the frame files open without a problem in Preview. By laboriously weeding out the files that cause the crash I end up with a "disabled" folder containing 6 of the original 72 files, so the movie now runs (on the Mac at least) with just the hiccups created by the excluded files.
    I next tell QT to open the image sequence containing all the disabled files and, lo and behold, I get another movie that behaves.
    Has anybody any idea what might be the problem?

  • Acrobat Pro X Replaces Document Title with File Name

    We process many Microsoft Word Documents into PDF. Whether or not this is the correct way to process them we use the new "Action" previously a Batch Process.
    We require our documents to open "Full Width" so we run the created Action which converts the Word files to PDF and sets them to open width.
    In the previous version of Acrobat (9) this worked fine. But the current version strips the document title out of the Word document and replaces it with the file name in the PDF. eg. If the title of the document set in the properties of world.doc is "Changing the world", when the action created the PDF its stripped and replaced with "world.doc"
    This of course means that we must now take the time to change the title of each document so that the search engine on our intranet can correctly list it. As you can imagine a time consuming process, which until this update never had to be done.
    Alternatively is there a better way to convert large numbers of Word documents to PDF that will keep all of this information intact?
    Many thanks
    Murray

    Actions are not really intended for that type of work:
    Actions allow a complex, guided series of events to be applied to a single file, usually with some user interactivity. They can be run over and over but usually only process one file at a time. In the example we show based on redaction, this guided interactivity is essential as only a human can decide what to redact in each document.
    Batch processing applies a standard set of events to a series of files, usually without any user interactivity beyond selection and filename choices.

  • Example of running a batch sequence without Evermap

    Good afternoon
    I am trying to run a batch sequence in Acrobat X from a button on a form in MS Access.
    I am aware that it is not possible to run a batch sequence (action) from the command line - you need to purchase Adobe's partner Evermap's AutoBatch to do this - but is it possible to recreate all of the menu selections etc. using the SDK?
    I know that Evermap provides this facility but has anyone else created the code to do this?
    It seems like it would be a really useful tool for Adobe to add to Acrobat but then I am not aware of the reasons why they have chosen to leave it out.
    Many thanks,
    Martin.

    Okay, but Evermap (the Adobe Solutions Partner) have developed and are selling a plugin that allows people to run batch sequences from the command line.
    Why do Adobe allow a plugin that allows enhanced command line options but then not incorporate the option as part of Acrobat as standard?
    On the one hand I hear Adobe saying that you cannot run enhanced command line options due to technical and legal issues but then on the other we see Adobe's Soutions Partner selling a plugin to do exactly that.
    Can you please unconfuse me?

    Scanning and OCR Question:
    We are currently using Adobe Acrobat Professional Version 9.  The scanner is a Canon DR-9080C.  What are the best setting to assure the best searchable image?  Once we upload the pdf document into our database we want to make sure it is searchable and selectable.  Also what is the best scanning dpi setting?
    Currently when we OCR a document and insert into our database we are unable to get accurate search information.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    [email address deleted by host]

    The OCR output of Searchable Image and Searchable Image (Exact) uses text rendering mode 3.
    Text rendering mode 3 renders glyph outlines with neither fill nor stroke (invisible/hidden text).
    Use a Preflight profile that evaluates for "Invisible text objects".
    This finds text objects which use text rendering mode 3 (invisible text).
    Create a new Preflight profile and place it in the "Custom profiles".
    Give the profile a friendly name (perhaps "Invisible text").
    Select Custom checks.
    In the 'find' field [1] type "inv" then select "Invisible text objects".
    Click the arrow [2] to include this selection in the profile [3].
    capture 1
    While the default indicator is "Error" for when a Preflight fires you can change this to Warning or Info. [1]
    To further configure the profile click the "Edit check" button. [2]
    The default trigger for this custom check is "is true" but if you want "is not true" you can change that in the Edit Check
    dialog.
    capture 2
    Once you have this (or any profile created) Preflight profile saved export it to a dedicated location (say a "KFP" folder).
    When many PDFs, in a common folder, are to be assessed create a Batch Sequence (pre-Acrobat X) or an Action
    (Acrobat X) that uses the Preflight profile.
    Using Acrobat 9 Pro as an example --
    Create a Batch Sequence. One I use is "Preflight HT".
    Click Edit Sequence...
    capture 3
    This opens the dialog "Edit Batch Sequence - Preflight HT" . Click the Select Commands button.
    capture 4
    Next, select "Preflight" then click the "Edit" button.
    capture 5
    In the dialog that is presented you can configure reporting options.
    Ticking "Display a summary PDF with a list of files for which Preflight found errors or warnings" will provide a PDF report
    that facilitates a quick at-a-glance means of assessment.
    Once configured click the "Save" button.
    capture 6
    Next you'd click OK on the Edit Sequence dialog to close it.
    In the "Edit Batch Sequence - Preflight HT" dialog you'd click on the "Output Options..." button.
    In the Output Options dialog configure configure as desired.
    capture 7
    The summary report provides useful information.
    An icon adjacent to the file name provides a visual indicator. [1]
    For an Information alert you have blue. Note that "information" is denoted as "Notification".
    For a Warning alert you have the yellow/orange icon.
    For an Error alert you have the red icon.
    For each file you are provided with a count of error(s), warning(s), and notification(s).
    The file name in the summary report is linked to the file which lets you view the file for specifics.
    capture 8
    What can be useful is to create an Action / Batch Sequence that use multiple Preflight profiles.
    As an example is to check for fonts not embedded, invisible text present, and text can be searched.
    The premise is that PDFs in a given folder all contain PDF page content that is scanned images of textual content and that
    all PDFs have undergone OCR (Searchable Image or Searchable Image (Exact)).
    The output summary report can provide V&V that the premise is true.
    --| OCR output (text rendering mode 3) is, by default, not embedded
    --| The OCR output is expected to be searchable.
    --| OCR output *is* of text rendering mode 3; so we expect this to be present.

    --| Select 'Add Watermark' and then click the 'Add >>' button.
    --| Click the 'Edit' button.
    The Add Watermark dialog presents itself.
    Configure as desired. Note the links "Page Range Options" (upper right) and "Appearance Options" (left side, just below center).
    You may want to use these options as part of the Watermark's configuration.
    When configuration within the Add Watermark dialog is complete, click OK.
    OK out of the Edit Sequence dialog.
    Back in the Edit Batch Sequence - Add Watermark dialog continue with configuration options as desired.
    Note: There is a square adjacent to the "Add Watermark" command that was selected.
    For unattended operation, leave this box NOT ticked.
    Clicking the 'Output Options' button provides access to a dialog from which you can choose to utilize PDF Optimizer.
    The 'Settings' button provides access to PDF Optimizer's configuration dialog.
    With all desired configuration complete, OK out of the Edit Batch Sequence - Add Watermark dialog.
    Click the 'Run Sequence' button to run a selected Batch Sequence.
    The configuration selection made for "2. Run commands on:" (in the Edit Batch Sequence - <name of sequence>) determines what you will observe next.
    It may be that Acrobat JavaScript will be needed to pull each PDF's document file name (?).

  • How to set default pag magnification to 100%

    Whenever I open a PDF in Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard v9.1.2 it opens to 69.2% zoom magnification.
    How can I set the default to open all PDF's at 100% zoom magnification?
    Thanks,
    Howard

    Regarding the OP:
    "How can I set the default to open all PDF's at 100% zoom magnification?"
    With Acrobat Pro, run a Batch Process (Sequence)/Action to run the "Open Options" sequence.
    This sequence permits setting the values for all items under the Initial View tab of PDFs' Document Properties.
    Regarding a PDF's Document Properties > Initial View:
    Visit an open PDF's Document Properties (Ctrl+D, Cmd+D). Go to the Initial View tab. The top pane (Layout and Magnification) permits configuration of:
    Navigation tab: Page Only | Bookmarks Panel and Page | Pages Panel and Page | Attachments Panel and Page | Layers Panel and Page
    Page Layout: Default | Single Page | Single Page Continuous | Two-Up (Facing) | Two-Up (Cover Page) | Two-Up Continuous (Cover Page)
    Magnification: Default | Actual Size | Fit Page | Fit Width | Fit Height | Fit Visible | Magnification percentages (25% to 6400%)
    Configuration settings other than "Default" dictate how the PDF is viewed initially.
    The settings for all values in all panes in the Initial View may be established for one or many PDFs by use of a Batch Sequence/Action (Acrobat Pro required).
    This functionality is utilized in an enterprise environment where large document collections are deployed in a LAN/WAN "eLibrary" to provide a consistent initial view to end-users.
    It also provides a content author a mechanism for establishing the initial view for *their* deployed content (such as PDF document collections distributed on optical storage media).
    As to the typical default Initial View for a created PDF:
    When a PDF is created via Acrobat the PDF document's default Initial View for Layout and Magnification is:
    --| Navigation: Page Only
    --| Page layout: Default
    --| Magnification: Default
    --| Open to page: 1
    Regarding the Open Parameters document — While this document does provide a few command line options the document's primary focus is the use of a URL to open a URL's targeted PDF's initially opening.
    Worth noting is that the document is specific for URLs and not applicable to UNC links (links with a LAN/WAN).

  • Seving Security Presets for PDF's

    I'm attempting to create a preset for PDF Export's that includes security settings (password, etc.) However, when I set the appropriate security settings, and save the preset, none of the security settings are being saved.
    Am I to understand that this simply means that security savings cannot be saved in a preset? I'm using InDesign CS3 on a Mac.

    You should be able to set up a Batch Sequence in Acrobat Pro or Professional.
    In Acrobat Pro or Professional, choose Advanced > Document Processing > Batch Processing. Click New Sequence. Give it a name and click OK. In the Edit Batch Sequence dialog, choose Select Commands, and choose Document > Security, the click Add. Select Security in the list, and click Edit. Double-click on Security, and choose your Security Method. If you choose Password Security, the Password Security settings dialog will appear. Set them, and click OK. When finished with the Security sequence, choose when the sequence will be run, and the output location.
    To run the batch sequence, choose Advanced Document > Document Processing > Batch Processing. Select the batch sequence you created, and choose Run Sequence.

  • Some PDFs contain text (e.g. OCR'd) and some do not contain text.

    I have a document management system that full text indexes all of our documents, but if a PDF is simply a picture then the full text indexing becomes useless unless I run an 'OCR' on the PDF...in essence adding text.
    In order to make PDFS fulltext searchable I run an OCR process on an entire folder.  I'd rather not run that process on PDFs that ALREADY have embedded text.  Is there a way to identify whether or a PDF has embedded text without opening it.

    You can use a Preflight to check the PDFs via an Action (Acrobat X) or Batch Sequence (pre-Acrobat X).
    The Preflight would use a Custom check.
    You could use "Can be mapped to Unicode"
    To be searchable the PDF pages' glyphs must map to Unicode.
    Similarly you can create a Preflight, Custom check to evaluate for "Invisible text objects".
    "Invisible text objects" are text objects using text rendering mode 3 (invisible text).
    Text rendering mode 3 (no glyph/font fill or stroke) is used for the output of OCR (Searchable Image and Searchable Image (Exact)).
    Acrobat Pro has two out-of-the-box Preflights that may also be of interest.
    One to use a fix-up to embed fonts another to embed fonts (including text rendering mode 3).
