Serial async dialbackup ports not working after shut, no shut??

I have four serial interfaces with async modems configured for dial-back to remote sites. While testing the dial-backup to the remote sites I noticed that host router was always using the same serial port to dial each remote site. In order force the dial backup mechanism to use another of the four host modems, I did a "shut" on the serial interface with the modem. Although this did force the dialer to use another modem in the pool, after doing a no shut on the modem serial interfaces I found that it was unusable for dial-back after that, that is, the dialer could not dial-out on the modem. I had the customer power cycle the modems on the serial interfaces but they still shows as down. Below is a sample excerpts of my config:
interface Serial2/0

Anyone ever see this. How can I re-initialize the serial ports with the modems again. No shut does not seem to work??
Thanks,
Tony

Hello Tony,
not sure if this helps, but try the interface command 'ignore-dcd' on your serial interface(s); the modem might be sending a DSR (data set ready), while the interface would listen for DCD (Data Carrier Detect) as up/down indicator.

My HDMI port quit working after upgrading to Windows 10. The VGA port works fine. I have triend many of the fixes for listed for this issue for upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8/8.1. Here's whay I've done so far... 1) Downloaded the most recent drivers for my Intel(R) Graphics Card. Outcome: It said the drivers installed were newer than the driver I was installing. Tried anyway, didn't work. 2) Uninstalled the driver and let windows update it.Outcome: Black screen, then it restarted and installed the same driver it had before. 3) Tried installing the Windows 7 Driver for my Intel(R) Graphics Card. Outcome: Black screen, then it restarted and installed the same driver it had before. 4) At this point I tried the last resort. I spun around three times in a circle and spit in the corner.Outcome: Wife yelled at me and kids thought I had a demon.  Please help, I use this computer in the office to connect to a 65" TV and I NEED my HDMI port.

Yeah, lot's of people on this forum have stated they have the same issue. It's not just people with Intel/AMD switchable cards either. I have an AMD 8650G + 8670M dual grapgics card and I am having the same issue.

I have the same problem when I updated to OS X 10.10 I lost both my USB ports as far as they will not recognize anything that I plug into them.  The power part of the USB seams to work since it will recharge my Striiv Touch but nothing shows up when you connect anything to the ports.
I have tried a number of things from rebooting, trying other usb devices that work on other systems with no problems but will not work on my Macbook Pro.
    Any Help out there?

  • USB warning and ports not working after update to Snow Leopard from Tiger

I've gone for hours through all kinds of forums without finding a proper answer, so here I am.
This morning I've installed OS Snow Leopard 10.6.3 on my iMac, previously I had OS Tiger 10.4.11 running. Everything seemed fine until I restarted and then I started getting "USB drawing too much power" promps all over the place even though the only thing that's attached to the iMac is the keyboard and the mouse (they both work fine). The process went like this:
The iMac is a 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo from october 2007
First I did an upgrade of my RAM, from 1GB to 2GB, that went ok.
Then I runned the install dvd for Snow Leopard, I did not perform a clean install, just did it over my old data. After restart, everything worked but i got this USB warning message, one of them. At that point my usb's still worked, (even though the warning) I could print and scan. To get rid of the warning, i resetted the PRAM and SMC, as suggested everywhere. After doing so, the promps multiplied and my usb ports ceased working, except for the keyboard and the mouse attached to it.
I've done the Apple Hardware Test, and it gives no malfunctions.
Firewire works fine, Isight buildt-in camera and bluetooth too.
I've tried all usb's and the keyboard will work in all of them, not like my printer and scanner which are completely ignored.
USB power warning also appears at restart with no deviced connected (no keyboard and mouse, i've tried).
I've also found in many forum entries  the possibility of a problem on the logic board, but since i've never had a problem with my imac until today i would not be sure about a hardware malfunction.
The last thing i've found around that could be a clue is something about the kernel extensions, but that's complete chinese for me, I'm  a mac plug&play user and not too much of a mac expert.
Does anybody have an idea about what could be going on? Should I perform a clean install of snow leopard? Would that solve the problem?
Many thanks in advance to the community for the help, I'm quite lost since I've owned macs for the last 15 years and this is the first problem I have with one.

I think it's serious, but if it didn't do it booted from Install Disc then Software is highly suspect.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
Did we get the warning in Safe Mode?

  • Usb ports not working after mavericks install

After installing Mavericks on my mac pro the usb ports are not working for my printer or other usb drives. the only item i can get to be seen via usb is an apple optical mouse. any suggestions would be great.

  • USB ports not working after OSX 10.9.1 update

    I have a late 2011 MBA 13".
The 2 USB ports stopped working as soon as I updated to 10.9.1.
I tried zapping PRAM and resetting the SMC.
I even turned the thing off for hours and still nothing.
    Any idea how to fix?
Everything was fine until I did the update.
    Thanks.

This is not a known bug affecting 2011 MBA computers with 10.9.1 so there is something wrong with your installation. Since zapping PRAM and resetting the SMC did not work I suggest that you try one of two things but first make sure you have backed up your computer.
    1) download Mavericks and reinstall it. Sometimes an update goes awry and a reinstall fixes it. Since doing this won't disturb any of your data or applications it would be my first choice. You'll be downloading 10.9.1 so you won't have to perform any updates.
    2) boot into the recovery mode, erase the hard drive and then download and install Mavericks. Once Mavericks is finished installing you'll be asked if you'd like to migrate data and applications from a backup. Say yes and if your backup drive isn't already connect it, do so. Select your applications folder and account folders from the list and let the Setup Manager do its magic.
BTW - this is why one of my several backup hard drives is a cloned backup using Carbon Copy Cloner (SuperDuper! Is another good choice). I can boot up my computer using this backup and download the newest version of Mavericks on it if I haven't already done so. I always quit the installer first and make a copy of it because the installer program deletes itself once it is finished which is something of a pain. It gives me more options including being able to boot my computer with it, erase the computer and copy the installer to the computer rather than having to perform the download all over again if step 1 fails. Since I always download a new copy of the OS when Apple releases an update this computer will have the newest version of the installer so I also can skip the download step of option 1 and just copy it over and install on the computer.

  • W520, (2) USB 2.0 ports not working after updates

I find it rather odd that my 2x USB 2.0 ports go out after updating Lenovo, but the 2x USB 3.0 ports still work, and Bluetooth still works.  I did install the newer BIOS and the USB 3.0 update, before hand the ports were working fine.
right now I'm using the SATA/USB combo port, but I don't want to wear out the plug. My computer Lenovo solution center says there is a hardware device problem, but I can't find it doesn't appear to be any of the drivers, or the power manager.

I have an Asus WIndows 8 laptop that I just upgraded to Windows 8.1 today. My USB 3.0 ports have started acting up. At first they recognized some of my external hard drives but not others. I tested all of the external hard drives and they work fine on my

  • Ethernet Port Not Working After 10.6.6 Upgrade

Hello! Since upgrading to 10.6.6, I have lost my Ethernet port connectivity. AirPort is working fine.
    I have done the following:
    -checked ethernet cable
-used System Preferences/Network to check connection and try to create a new one
    -used Diagnostic button
    -zapped PRAM
    -reset SMC
    -repaired my disk permissions
    -installed the 10.6.6 combo update
-booted in Safe Mode and then restarting
Is anyone aware of an incompatibility with 10.6.6 and the Yukon adapter?
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

let me reiterate. 27 ' iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo just updated to 10.6.6 uses AirPort to access the internet. Set up to share it's internet connection via ethernet with PPC Dual 2.3 G5 running 10.5.8. Up until the 10.6.6 update things were fine. After updating the iMac's OS, the PPC lost it's internet connection. On the PPC's network System Prefs, the built in ethernet is connected and green. The iMac is in the finder under Shared. On the iMac, the PPC is in the finder under Shared and in Network settings the ethernet connection has a self-assigned IP with a yellow light. I have reset and rebooted all settings and devises on the network with no resolve.

  • Configuring ports not working after installation of HP 6000.

I had written last night about problems getting my HP 6000 Wireless E609n printer to work on my home network. There are three computers hard wired into a medialink router, with the printer attached to one that is running Windows 7.  One of the other two computers runs Windows 7, the other XP. The three computers can see each other on the network.  I downloaded the software for the XP and installed it, and the installation went okay, but the printer still will not print.  It seems as if the problem is with the router or the settings on the printer.  The printer works on the main machine, the one it is attached to.  I printed the Printer Status Report, and under connectivity settings, the network status is offline with no active connection type.  Its URL is 0.0.0.0.  I was attempting to try and enter an IP address on the XP machine so that it could see the printer.  So on the main machine, I tried to configure the ports to get the IP address.  I got this error message 'An error occurred during port configuration.  This operation is not supported.'  I had this problem earlier too, so I uninstalled the printer and then reinstalled it, but the problem remains.  I cannot obtain an IP address.  Are there settings for the printer or the router that need to be changed, or is it something else?  Any information would be appreciated.

It sounds like you have the printer connected a Windows 7 computer with a USB cable and are sharing this over the network.  With this type of setup, you would not use an IP address since it would not have one.  The printer would only have an IP address if it is connected to the router (ethernet or wirelessly).
Based on the description of the setup, there really shouldn't be a need to have it connected directly to a Windows 7 system.  If you prefer to have it connected to a Windows 7 system directly and to share it with the other computers, this document from Microsoft discusses how to share it and this document from Microsoft covers adding a network shared printer in Windows XP.
Honestly, I recommend using the printer connected to the router for the simplest and most problem free setup.
HP's site does show the Officejet 6000 e609n supports wireless and wired network connections.  The easiest option would be to connect the printer to the router with an Ethernet cable (wireless can be problematic in some setups).
This document from HP covers how to install this printer on a wired network for Windows 7.

  • USB ports not working after downloading I tunes 10.1

After downloading I tunes 10.1, as prompted by I tunes, , I got the device not recognized message for my IPOD. Also, a bonjour error message. I un installed and re installed as per instructions and still had the problem worse-none of the USBs are working. They were working before I downloaded the new release of I tunes.
I believe this is a bad download-any idea how I can fix this problem?

  • New T400 - Mini Dock USB Ports not working after hot dock

    Hello,
just got a new T400 at work. I know this issue was common with the R60...however I figured this would be resolved with the T400.  After PROPERLY undocking my T400 (Start -> undock -> wait for notification and green light).....  I go off to my meetings, etc and all is well with the world. When re-dock the machine, the USB keyboard and Mouse (and sometimes the monitor) will not re-engage.  Sometimes I get the monitor...and no keyboard and mouse.
Any ideas on this? Kind of frustrating because I usually have to re-boot (or unplug the mouse/keyboard/ monitor from the dock and plug them directly into the laptop...which defeats the purpose of the dock).
    Appreciate the help!
    Robert

i have the same problem with a R60 and advanced minidock (winXP SP3). it worked for three years now, but since about one month, when returning to dock, my USB mouse only works in about one of five cases. monitor-usb same problem. keyboard is an old PS/2, this always works. i need to plug the mouse directly to the R60, then it is recognised and works as expected. i do driver updates quite regular, so maybe one of the last drivers have a bug?

  • HP G4-2275dx left two usb ports not working after OS install.

    Hi all.
I had to remove my windows 8(Upgraded to Pro before) install due to compatibility with certain programs and I was not very satisfied with the results.
So I had an extra cd key for windows 7 x64 home premium.
    Everything went smooth.
I had all my drivers installed.
    I installed Direct X also.
But when I tried to use my tutle beach headset it would not install the driver for the headset or even make the sound when a device is mounted.
So I checked device manager and I saw three yellow excelemation errors.
two were "Universal Serial Bus(USB) controller"
    one was "SM bus controller"
I have installed the catalyst drivers multiple times but no dice.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Happy Holidays.

  • Ethernet port not working after installing Leopard

All fine when in 10.4.8, after installing 10.5 it no longer works.
Says cable is unplugged, checked the cable on other devices and the router and cant see any problems on system profiler.
    Any ideas ?

Cat6 cables are not required or beneficial for most home situations. The purpose of Cat 6 cables is to be able to work around a electronically "noisy" area, or to pinch out a little bit more throughput in a Gigabit network.
If you change a cable to Cat6 it will still work at the Cat5 or 5e standard if any of your other cables are not Cat6.
I'm running GB ethernet using hundreds of feet of Cat5e wiring into several rooms. No problems with Leopard.
