Serial/License Number

I have a Swing application that I plan on selling soon and I'd like to require users to enter a serial number to be able to run the program. I'd like to make the serial number computable rather than create a list of hundreds (thinking optimistically) of serial numbers and check against them in the code.
Can anyone point me to any resources for algorithms I might be able to use? Or offer any advice?
I'm fully aware that I will not be able to totally secure my program and that it's decompileable and so on... I just want to make it more difficult for someone to use the program without paying for it or more obvious that they're doing so.

Believe it or not, I've actually thought about the market for this program. I have considered how much of this 'security' will annoy customers, how much will reassure them that the application they paid for is not being used for free by their competitors, and how effective it will be at actually stopping people from copying the program. I've thought about how large the market is, how technical it is, how much of the market knows what bittorrent is, how many know how to find someone who knows what a decompiler is. I've thought about how much time it would take to crack the program verses rewriting the program from scratch and the skill level involved in both tasks.
I've thought about the value the program will provide a customer, what their ROI will be, and what my ROI will be. I've thought about how many customers might want to open the door for other potential users, how they would distribute it, who they would distribute it to and how that would affect my market share, my reputation, and my name recognition. I know how many people want to use the program now and how much they will pay for it. I also know that they will feel they should have paid less if there is not some semblance of serial number security on the program, even if you and I know that no program is truly secure.
I have considered these things. I have decided that a serial number/license number/activation code scheme is necessary for this program. I welcome opinions and suggestions about how to best implement this scheme. I also welcome more detail about your experiences, Brian, and the business model you now follow as it may be appropriate for future projects of my own.

So basically I want to take my final cut pro off of one computer and put it on another. But I don't have my disc, I do have the serial/license number so is there anyway I can install it on my other computer without the disc? Or is there anyway to get a replacement disc? Thanks for your help.

Sure it is. Just download the version of PS you were using from the Adobe Photoshop update page.

Install it and enter the serial number. If you have an Upgrade serial number you will need a serial number from a previous version also.

Photoshop CC license number?

I have purchased Photoshop CC yesterday. Now with every start of the programm I have to choose Testversion because I have no serial/license number.
The payment transaction in my account is listed as finished.
So what do I have to do?

You need not have a SN for CC, just need to login with the adobe id against which subscription was bought.

Hi My company global IT needs me to provide a license number to them for all adobe photoshop installed in my users computer. I don't know what they mean about license number. Is it the same with the 20 digit serial number that i can find in the system information that starts with "9"? i dont want to provide them with the activation key in the box. I only have ann activation key and the serial numbers.

You need to ask your company global IT what the actually want from you in detail so you understand what they want since you do not understand what they want. With CC you need a subscription, Don't give then your personal Adobe user ID and Password for your Adobe account that has your subscription associated. Older Adobe products were supplied with a install key serial number on the CD or DVD jacket or induced in your download order. If your product is supplied to you by your company they should have all the required information for what they gave you. They need to keep track of site licences.

Photoshop CC is the equivalent of CS7... and it is available ONLY by paying for a monthly subscription... your CS6 serial number does not work for CC

What do I do If I have received an invalid license number from Adobe to activate my trial version of Photoshop Elements 13

I have just purchased Photoshop Elements 13 on line and received an email with the serial number to activate my trial copy on a Mac.
When I enter the serial number to license my trial copy, I get an error message saying that " this is not a valid license number for Photoshop 13.
I have followed all instructions on Adobe's troubleshooting pages. Same result.
I have reinstalled the trail version. Same result.
I have contacted Adobe through chat and for the past three days I keep getting the message "chat not available".
I have called the Adobe sales department. They confirmed that the serial number I registered is the correct licence number but told me they cannot provide product support.
I have posted a message on this forum. No response.
Before I ask for a refund any futher thoughts on what I can do next?

Owner of CS6 Master. Unaccidentally installed Acrobat XI Professional. Was always trial - not upgrade. Uninstalled Acrobat XI Pro. Can I just download the Acrobat X Pro and install it using the CS6 Master License number ?

Hi, I believe I made a mistake when installed Acrobat XI Professional over the CS6 Master version Acrobat X Professional. The result ended up with running a trial version of Acrobat XI Professional. I wanted to upgrade but not using the subscription version, but rather buy the software and own it, like with my CS6 Master Software. Well, I now uninstalled the Acrobat XI Professional and wondering if I now can download the Acrobat X Pro software, install it and use the CS6 Master license number to get going ?

Well. After downloading the separate full version of Acrobat X Professional, it could not be installed using the serial # for CS6 Master Collection. I started the installation for CS6 Master Collection and ONLY selected Acrobat X Professional. Voila! Now everything is working.

You would get an e-mail from Adobe with the serial #. Usually it arrives within 5 - 10 min after purchase.
Check your spam/junk e-mail folder.

You cannot retrieve the licence number.
First of all the sticker on the bottom of the unit was an OEM serial key. Such key cannot be used and would not work in connection with fresh installed Win XP system.
The point is that Toshiba image which was preinstalled on this notebook was already activated and this means that such key was useless.
I assume you did not create a Toshiba Recovery disk (or flash USB stick) in the past? Right?
Such disks would reinstall the Toshiba image containing activated Win XP system.
Well, usually its possible to order such disk [here|http://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx] but I think this would not be possible anymore because of the notebook age.
Solution: you would need to purchase the Win XP with valid serial key.

Can't find license number on product?

I can't find my license number on my boxed elements 13 product I purchased on Amazon. There's numbers but none that fit in the license number boxes....I've checked the box, the sleeve, and there was no insert.

Cannot find my license number since I downloaded online

I have a subscription that I have used without issue for several months. As of Friday, when I attempt to open a PDF I am told that my free trial has ended and it is asking me to license my subscription. I never received a license number since I downloaded online. Please help.....this is becoming very inconvenient for my business!
