Serial number & Find my iPhone problems

Hey everyone,
So my iPhone had stopped charging. Now I brought it to an Apple Store and the Genius there had reassured me that they will gladly replace it. HOWEVER, the serial number on my device and the serial number on my phone were totally different. The serial number that my device was registered to was to some person in another country, which confuses me. If I were to get the replacement it would have to be under the carrier of the device (AT&T) however I am with Rogers. Another road block was that my phone was not disconnecting from Find My iPhone, which in order to replace, was needed to be done. I only ever sign into my iphone with one apple iD and dont sign into others. I have no clue what I can do.

This doesn't make sense. Your phone is your device. Can you possibly try to explain what you mean by this?

If you had the Find My iPhone application installed and location services turned on, you can track the iPod touch, but you can not use the serial number to track it.

Unfortunately no. Due to privacy issues Apple does not trace devices (if it could) based on serial numbers. That's why Apple provided the Find My iPhone service to help find lost devices. But in your case, a dead battery defeats the service. All you can do is contact your carrier to ask that it block your service and inform the police. Do you have insurance for the iPhone?

Yes, it tells them the legitimacy of the phone. the serial number is tied to the purchase of the phone and verifies date purchased and more importantly if it's still under warranty. There is no personal information given about the phone serial.
This is just the buyer being cautious of the purchase and if it is a legitimate sale, it won't matter if they have it or not.

If you're locked out because of a forgotten passcode, you don't need the serial number. You need to restore the phone.

How to find the serial number of your Apple hardware product
A serial number will not get you out of recovery mode. Try this:
Placing your device into recovery (DFU-Device Firmware Upgrade) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.

Unless you can locate it via Find My iPhone on another iOS device or http://icloud.com then you won't be able to try and find it and or lock/remotely wipe it - it can't be done via the serial number nor IMEI number. With iOS 7 it should be harder to remove from your account.
If the phone was registered to your account then you should be able to get the serial number from your support profile : https://supportprofile.apple.com/

You've contacted your carrier ? You should also change your email account passwords, and any passwords that you'd stored on websites/emails/notes etc.

I was reading on the internet that Apple just made an iPhone 5 battery replacement program and that I need to provide the serial number to see if my iPhone cualify for the replacement. So i went to the support page where i found the link to the replacement program and just need to put my iPhone serial number and see if it cualify something that i was sure it will because the one that were affected are the one that where bought between septermber 2012 (the month i bought it) and january 2013. When i click submit i got a message that says .
When i saw that "I already replaced the battery" I log in to my account on the support page and I didn't found my actual and only iPhone 5 i have registered in my products, BUT i have another iPhone 5 case open and 3 services to that iPhone 5 i don't know and its not mine. That iPhone have another very different serial number and when i check the services they have done are from an Apple Store in California and I from Puerto Rico.

It's possible that if they serviced your phone before, they replaced the entire unit making you ineligible for the battery replacement. Have you had your iPhone replaced thought Applecare recently?

It sounds like you need to disable your iPhone remotely. I'm sorry to hear about your phone! The only way to do this with is Apple services is if you had Find my iPhone enabled. You have 2 options:
You can use this article to put the phone into Lost Mode and preserve your data on it, but prevent access to it:
