Serial number for material lying in Inventory

Hi Experts
Here the requirement is to add serial numbers for materials in SAP.I am having serial number seperately in legasy system.I need to activate in SAP for that Material.That i can do it by adding serial number profile in Material Master.
But how can asign serial numbers for the material already Lying in Inventory in
our plant.
I tried mb1b- 311 to another storage location its asking serial numbers and i m able to give there.But Is there any data migration work so that i can add serial numbers to the material lying in stock.
Help needed

One option could be to make the stock zero by issuing the stock out completely to scrap (or cost center or...). Then activate serial numbers. Then do an initial upload of the stock.

I Tried looking standard table which contain Material number, Serial number, Equipment and Material Document but there isn't any.
So I went into SQVI and join two tables, MSEG and OBJK. There I manually draged the MATNR from MSEG Table to OBJK and then selected the fields like Materials Number, Plant, Material Document, Mov Type etc and from other table I selected Material Number plus Serial Number, Equipment (chose your required filters) and then executed and it shows the required records correctly.
Only issue it had was that if you try thousands of records e.g. Materials it went though and brought resukts and some time it dumped. But it fulfilled my needs successfully.

Table to find serial number for the stock of a material

I have a requirement in which i want to find the serial number for the stock of a material.
in Equi i have serial number with material.
But i want it with plant also.
pl. suggest me in which table u have serial number,material , plant and storage location.

I checked EQSE table in that no entries are found.
In EQBS table for that equnr u have plant and storage location.
but the performace while selecting EQUI on the whole will be very slow.
so i want a table with material,serial number,plant and storage location.

Serial Number for 2 different material

HI All,
        I need assistance in assigning the serial number to 2 different material.Material A,B of same material type.I had made 2 serial profile and assigned to 2 different material.
   I wanted 2 different unique number for material. for example 1-500 for A material and 501-1000 to B material.I am trying but not able to get the same.Please assist me identify missing thing in my configuration.

Hi VJ,
Two different number range for serial No might not be possible in this case but there are some possible way in doing it.
Please check the following points
1) In your present process dont assign any external serial no . Just click on automatic, system will be able to generate one internal number. However in this case serial no will be in the sequence of that material.
2) If you are ok for syncronization with the equipment no and serial no you can have different no range of serial No.
     Since you have two different serial no profile and you can assign two different equipment category and 2 different category can have different no range.
It just the work around . Think about it whethere it is feasible to your business.

Serial number for non stock material

I would like to create a serial number for a non stock material (material type NLAG) (PO with account assignment catergory K) and I receive the following error message during the goods receipt (transaction MIGO) :
*Movement type 101 does not currently support serial number management*
*Message no. IO306*
*Diagnosis*

I'm not familiar with Serial Number Management but I guess you can apply it only to materials with stock.

SWAP Equipment using IE4N, without serial number and material, it is possible?

Hi PM Experts, I´ve been reading about the way to SWAP equipments from his functional location without using serial number and material, I think if it is not possible, but to be honest, I cannot find any logical answer for it, since equipment number is unique for a plant. Does anyone have found any work around for it?.
I don’t want to use serial numbers and materials, because I think the process is really simple, since the client does not want to implement the refurbishment process. If there is a break down, here is what I do:
Case 1:
Dismantle damage equipment (Say PM01 Order Type)
Install new equipment (same PM order)
TECO the actual PM order
...Later
Case 2:
Create a new PM orden (say PM01 Order Type)
Repair the break equipment
TECO this new PM Order
Here are the inconsistencies:
What happen with the MTTR and MTBR reports?
In case one, I´ll create the material as equipment, while I´m installing, starting date for his master data is the installation day, and the MTTR and MTBR will start to run. This is ok.
What happened in case 2?, I need to stop the “clock” for the MTTR and MTBR of the dismantle equipment.
This is the reason why, I would like to use IE4N, but since there are no serial number and material, I cannot.
Can anyone please suggest a workaround for this scenario?.
I´m thinking in use INAC (Object Deactivated) system status, can this status help me?, Does this status “stops” the clock for MTTR and MTBR report?. If I change the status to ACT, I´ll get the clock back running?.
How about dismantle the equipment?, It will get the AVLB Available status, but the problem is, this equipment will be “floating” in the whole PM structure and I do not want it. I want to have it in a specific Functional Location but with this status, is this possible?. I woul like to use IE4N to SWAP UTs and later change the status to AVLB Available status, with and exits.
I thinking in an Equipment Status and a “Z” MTTR and MTBR report, based on this status. But to be honest, I´d like a standard solution for it.

For find my iPhone to work, the device has to be powered on and it has to be connected to a network (Cellular or WiFi). Find My iPhone uses your AppleID as the account to search for. Maybe the "guys" you were talking to were referring to a 3rd party application that essentially lo-jacks your device. But even then, it would still require Power and a network.
I don't believe that there is currently a way to flag a specific serial number for location.

Auto GR of Serial number assign material

Dear All,
I have assign serial number to the inhouse produce material. And as per client requirement of automatic GR for same material, am doing auto goods movement at the time of confirmation.
So for serial number assignment material system giving error for serial number obligatory material this movement is not possible.
Is there any other method for serial number assign material to do auto GR. Plz revert its urgent.

we tried to do Auto Gr with serial number for FG iIn my company but can't do. Finally we convinced our users to do manually.This is SAP standard that Auto GR is not possible for the material maintain with Serial Number
So you must convince your clients for the same

Same Meter Serial Number for 2 devices

Hi Experts,
For Gas Business, there is scenario that two different meters can have the same meter serial number and be at different locations.
Therefore we need SAP to be able to handle the same meter serial number but treat them separately under two different MPRN/installations.
Is there any way in SAP we can have meters with the same ID?
I know if they are of different device categories this is possible but they are all of the same device category.
Please advise how this is possible? And also how the incoming and outgoing meter reads will be handled?

As the previous poster already pointed out, the combination of material and serial number has to be unique within SAP.
I would actually question the data quality of the existing system, if there's a duplicate serial number for the same material, because it defies the purpose of a serial number.

I need to find out the serial number for the invoiced item. For ex: I have an order with an item with qty 3 and they all the received in the inventory (drop ship case). But I have invoiced only one qty of the item and I need to find out serial number for this specific item.

I am looking for any pre-exisitng link between these entities. If it doesn't exist or is not possible at all without any customization, just wanted to confirm it.
Also, when records are interfaced to the AR and autoinvoicing is run, we may populate any attribute column to capture the sr.# but again, how can we specifically determine the sr. no. for the item being invoiced. I think we'll have to pick anyone out of the 3 generated in the above example. Similarly, if we invoice the rest 2 items later, then we'll have to assign the remaining 2 sr. #s to each of these 2 items in any order.
Please let me know if this is what you meant.

Dear PRASAD
If you want to manage an item by serial number, you should define it in Item master Data -> General tab -> Serial and Batch Numbers->Manage Item by. You could choose 'Serial Numbers' or 'Batch'. After that, another field 'Management Methodwill' be available. You could choose 'On release only' or 'On every transaction'.
If you choose 'On every transaction', on every transaction which will receive goods (for example, GRPO) before adding, the 'Serial Number - setup' window will pop up. Or you can open this window by putting cursor on Quantity field and use Ctrl + Tab key. Under this window, you could create Serial Numbers.
And there is a button named 'Automatic Creation'. Using it, you could create serial numbers automaticlly.
Before adding documents which will issue goods, the serial number selection window will pop up.
If you choose 'On release only', when you receive goods, the serial number setup window will not pop up. After receive them, you can finish the creation of serian number.
Inventory -> Item Management -> Serial Number -> Serial Number Management.
If you want to create Serial number for new received goods, choose 'Complete' in Operation. In this function, you also could automaticlly create Serial Numbers.
If you want to update Update existing serial numbers, please choose 'Update' in Operation.

It sounds like what you're seeing is a malicious pop-up on the web. Do you have anti-virus software of some kind installed? If not, note that that's the only thing that can scan your computer for malware. A web site cannot do that, but it's trivial to display a pop-up in your web browser that looks very official, telling you viruses have been found and that you need to install their software to remove them. That's a classic malware trick... the software the pop-up wants you to install is the malware.
Can you provide a screenshot of the window warning you that you have malware? Press command-shift-4, then the space bar, then click the window. The screenshot will be placed in a file on your desktop. Add it to a post here using the camera icon in the post editor's toolbar. (Don't drag it into the post or copy and paste it... that will appear to work for you, but we won't be able to see it.)
