Serial Port communication very slow in RDP on windows server 2012

Hellò, we have installed a new server 2012 and connected some thinclients via RDP, since that moment all peripherals connected to the imported com ports of the thinclients are running very slow, for example the cash register issue any receipt only after
15-20 seconds!!. We have try to connect via RDP also a personal computer with many other OS like windows 8, windows 7, or XP but the result is the same: 15-20 seconds for a receipt!! We solve the problem only changing the server 2012 with a old server
2008 or 2003!. How is possible window server 2012 is so slow on RDP imported com ports??. There is something to set for speed up the com ports on rdp? For us this is a great problem, all of our customers are using cash register via RDP and they can't wait
all this time for a receipt. For your information we have tried to connect the cash register to the same com port of the same thinclient to the same server 2012 without RDP and the issue of the receipt is fast, so the problem is something on RDC of the new
OS windows Server 2012. Also note this is a bi-directional communication because the cash register use a bi-directional communication for printing each one of the voice on the receipt, this problem wll not affect other printers unidirectional where the
print process starting in less one second. Please help us to solve this problem, otherwise we will not more install windows server 2012.

Hi,
Thanks for your posting in Windows Server Forum.
When the slow performance issue occurs on server 2012, check the Windows Logs – Application category of the Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc) on both the client and server sides. If there is any logs recorded, please let us know them. Please also check the
driver is properly installed on server and check the compability guide with the cash register machine, whether it support server 2012 with remote session. If there is particular requirement then you need to solve them first.
In addition, would like you to try connecting with RDP 8.1 and check whether it faces same issue.

  • Single server solution for RDS / TS / RDP using Windows Server 2012 R2

Planning on setting up a small single server and  need this functionality:
    * 3 local users runnnig Windows 7 Home Premium needs to access files on the server
    * The same 3 users should also be able to connect from home (PC, Mac, iPhone) and run an application on the server. (Session-Based Remote Desktop).
We want to use Windows Server 2012, and found out that Essentials does not support RDP, so that leaves Foundation and Standard versions.
However, I also found out that in WS 2012 the RDP can not be on the same server as the Domain Controller, and we therefor needs to run 2 server instances on our hardware. I think this starts to look way to complicated for what we want to do, but found out
that WS 2012 R2 allows a single server to run RDP (See TechNet article 2833839).
So we will go for Windows Server 2012 R2, either Foundation or Standard to set up our RDP.
So now the question: Will that solution work with our local machines running Windows 7 Home Premium, as they cannot connect to a domain? Can we set up some kind of simple file share or Workgroup to acces files locally while still keeping the RDP
    functionality on the server?
And, will WS 2012 Foundation R2 do this as well as WS 2012 Standard R2?
(I have been asking several locat MS representatives to find a solution to our needs, but no one seems to know how this works....of cause we could just get 2 WS 2012 Standard server instances, run one as DC and on as RDCB and upgrade all our clients to Win
7 Pro, but we would like a solution with minimal investment in time and money)

    Hi Ryan,
and thanks for the answer! I do not know how to do "multiple quote" in this forum so I do it this way:
"have you considered virtualisation, as you can run multiple virtual machines under one licence. I think this would be the cheapest and most efficient use of your money. Upgrading your clients to Windows 7 pro would allow you to have domain control
    Single Sign On SSO. "
This is the "official" solution I think: Upgrade all clients to Win 7 Pro and run two instances of Win Server 2012 Standard on the server.
However, I was hoping to get away with something a bit more Quick & Dirty.....;-) We do not have big security issues and will have a good backup system, and I think for 3 users only, it will be more work trying to centralise administration like updating,
backups etc, than to just go to each machine and do what is needed.
We are good with computers/Windows but have no Server experience. A server guy will help us get started, but I dont want him around after that, so it must be a very simple solution.
Also, installing 2 instances of WS 2012 and upgrading all 3 clients to Win Pro, and then installing all software and settings on the clients into the new domain user accounts on these clients is quite a lot of work. So I was hoping to keep only existing local
users on the client machines and only have some kind of file share thing going on with the server disks that we need to access. So perhaps use a Workgroup instead of a domain, if that works with the RDS setup?
    "Option 1
2 virtual machines 1x DC and 1x RDS server."
So, if we set up RDS this way (so we can log in remote and run our application session-based on the server), can we keep the local clients running Windows Home Premium using our current local user logins (ie no domain user accounts created on the client machines,
as this is impossible in Home versions) and still access the server disks somehow, or is it impossible?
Another question is if it is stupid/a really bad solution...but I still want to know if it is possible....;-)
    "Option 2
2 virtual machines 1x DC and 1x RDS server.
You can configure your RDS solution as a domain joined platform and will still be able to access resources from the local device as you can map local drives to the session host. http://www.serverintellect.com/support/techfaq/drive-rdp/
Your users would have two sets of credentials, one for the local client and one for the domain."
I do not want to access files over VPN or RDP, we only want to run an application on the server from remote (Session-Based Remote Desktop). However when we use the local clients we want to access files on the server, and then we access huge image and film files
on fast RAID drives, so local network speed must be top speed. Also if possible we would like to not upgrade to Win Pro, and then joining a domain is not possible.
    "Option 3
    1x Server
The second option would be to manually deploy the session host role and licencing role to a work group server. This would limit access to RDP only and you would loose web access functionality."
I think this is what I was hoping for. It seems that the new R2 release of WS 2012 allows you to rund RDP and Domain Controller roles on the SAME instance of the server. That sounds nice, it limits what we need to keep track on and minimises the load on the
server that needs to act as a very fast file server locally.
However, can we do this and still keep file acces with only Windows Home (no domain) in the local clients (same question as above under "Option 1")?

    Hi Roberto,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
This error might be caused by one of the following conditions:
    -  The printer is not reachable on the network
    -  Windows cannot allocate sufficient memory
    -  There was invalid or incomplete data received by the print spooler
    -  A driver upgrade failed
    -  There is a bad printer device driver

  • How to RDP access my Windows server 2012 system with Windows 7 system

In the VMWARE workstation, I have a " Windows server 2012" & " WIndows 7" OS deployed. I am not able to RDP the " Windows server 2012" from "Windows 7" system even though i have performed the below step.
    1. Enabled the " Allow Remote Connections to this comptuter " in windows server 2012
    2. Disabled the firewall in Windows server 2012.
Can someone advice me on the below.
    1. How to RDP my windows server 2012 from my Windows 7 with " Firewall disabled" & "Firewall Enabled" conditions

    Hi,
Just make sure that the firewall is disabled in all three profiles Domain/Private/Public.
Create a incoming UDP rule on firewall to allow port 3389 and give a try.

  • How to port forward in windows server 2012 ? for IIS

    Hi,
I have windows server 2012 in AWS cloud (Public IP)
Installed IIS 8 and running website in the port 8980 and its working fine (Public IP)
    My question is
I have CNAME record in Godaddy in the name of example.com which is pointed to my PUBLIC IP ... its working fine.
But I want to know how to port the 80 request to 8980 in windows server 2012 thanks.
    Wes

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want that example.com(in Godaddy) to transfer corresponding queries(port and website name) to the website on WS 2012(in AWS cloud).
Since your domain example.com is supported by Godaddy, I recommend you to contact the supporter of Godaddyand confirm that if their product supports port forwarding.
In general, if you useWindows ServerInstruction, we may enable NAT(Routing and Remote Service) on network interface to redirect services/ports.

  • Black Screen on a RDP Session on a Windows 8 VM (with a RemoteFX 3D Card) running on Windows Server 2012 HyperV

    Hi,
I am trying to test a Windows 8 VM (RTM) with a RemoteFX 3D adapter (I used Powershell command to add the RemoteFX adapter to the VM) and when I connect the machine with the RDP Client (Windows Server 2012 RTM),
I just get a black screen.
Off course, I can not connect using VM Connect (because RemoteFX is enable in the VM).
I tested same configuration but this time with a Windows 7 VM and this time it's OK, RemoteFX working fine.
Any Idea will be apreciated :-)
    Stanislas Quastana, Microsoft France http://blogs.technet.com/stanislas

I may have a solution for this which I am about to test.
My environment is 2012R2, Win8.1 VDI Machines on a Dell R720 with Nvidia GRID K2.
I've been trying to rollout VDI all week with everything working except RemoteFX.
On logon the screen is just black but if you press enter it continues to log on, it appears that the logon message text may be causing the issue so I have created a GPO for my template machines and client machines which disables require CTRL+ALT+DEL
and also deletes from the registry the logon message and logon text entries that are displayed on all machines, I figure the users will see this when logging onto their ThinPC machine before connecting to VDI so it's not needed twice.
    CONFIRMED working!!

  • Serial port access time slows in version 6 to 7 upgrade

Hi - I am in the process of upgrading an project from LV 6 to LV
7,  the serial port access works well in LV6 but after the
upgrade, the serial port access is slow in LV if the application is
compiled into an exe.  We are running Windows 2K on all machines
and have installed the LV7.0 runtime engine on the PC that is running
the executable.  If I run the application on a machine that has
the full LV7.0 development  software on it, the executable runs
just like it used to under LV6.0
What am I forgetting??  The application is built into one exe that
has all of the sub vi's included.  I have checked the box on the
application builder that says included serial port support.
Help! - We have 3000 PCBs sitting in manufacturing waiting to go to test until I solve this problem
    Thank you

    Hi
I just recently finished a project in which I had to upgrade code from LV 6 to LV 7.1. After I did that the serial port actually worked but all the Fieldpoint devices that were connected to the system didn't work. The problem ultimately was the NI Fieldpoint Drivers. After I installed the newest drivers from NI everything worked perfectly. I don't know why your problem is occurring, but I wanted to reasure you that there isn't a problem with the serial ports when upgrading to LV7.1 (I don't know about LV7).BTW, I had LV6.1 development system installed on the computer, but didn't have the LV7.1 (All I had was an EXE file).
So, try installing the newest drivers. Maybe that can help.

  • Serial Port Communication Class

    Hi

    Thanks

There's the Java Communications API that does serial port communication. Don't know whether it handles whatever it was you said.

  • Serial port communication IRP_MJ_READ

Hello, i would like to ask you about serial port communication. I am currently trying to make application for communication with my stepper motor (Microcon), but it doesnt work. If i try to communicate with original software, my serial port monitor gives me values
IRP_MJ_WRITE  when i write some values and
IRP_MJ_READ when i try to read from serial port
But when i am using LabView i am only able to send IRP_MJ_WRITE function using VISA write component (so this one works good), but when i use VISA read component my serial port monitor gives me only IRP_DEVICE_CONTROL. Have you any sugestion where can be problem? I have no idea how to get this IRP_MJ_READ function using LabView VISA component.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Are you monitoring the using PortMon software ? Only thing I can see here is that check the command what you send, there might be some space which you might have introduced while typing,
    or
Are you still running stepper motor control software while running the labview ? In this case there will be conflict.
When you are using original stepper motor software and when you send command wirte down the hex value (see in portmon or anyother monitoring software) and try sending same hex values using labview. Sending command, sending hex are same but just give it a try,
Use bytes at port function before VISA read to read all the available data.
Search for Microcon drivers in Instrument driver network in NI website if you want easy & fast solution.

  • Windows Server 2012 Storage Spaces Simple RAID 0 VERY SLOW reads, but fast writes with LSI 9207-8e SAS JBOD HBA Controller

Has anyone else seen Windows Server 2012 Storage Spaces with a Simple RAID 0 (also happens with Mirrored RAID 1 and Parity RAID 5) virtual disk exhibiting extremely slow read speed of 5Mb/sec, yet write performance is normal at 650Mb/sec in RAID 0?
    Windows Server 2012 Standard
    Intel i7 CPU and Motherboard

The Enterprise drives are on LSI's compatibility list.  The Desktop drives are not, but regardless, both drive models are affected by the problem.
Interestingly, this entire configuration but with two SIIG eSATA 2-Port adapters instead of the LSI 9207-8e, works perfectly with both reads and writes at 670Mb/sec.
I thought SAS was going to be a sure bet for expanding beyond the capacity of port limited eSATA adapters, but after a week of frustration and spending over $5,000.00 on drives, controllers and cabling, it's time to ask for help!

    1) Yes, being slow either on reads or on writes is a quite common situation for storage spaces. See references (with some of the solutions I hope):

  • Very slow to open new window

How to fix very slow opening window. I have vista 64. Since the last foxfire update it is very slow to open new windows. It can take some windows opening over a minute to open. (yes minutes not seconds)
Once a window is open I can open in new tab with no problem, but not with new window. (I like to have many windows open at a time)
When l click to open a new window either from a link or new window, it seems that nothing is happening. Then clicking to open another one which seems to open faster. Then all of a sudden the first window decides to open after about a minute or so. Sometime it seems to hang longer than other times.

I did try the safe mode and didn't work. I did make iexplorer my default and then back again to foxfire and it somewhat worked. It was work not bad (but not as good as before) until I rebooted and it seemed the more I used it the better it became. Go figure :)
Well I just did another firefox update to 4 and it works perfect and maybe even better than before. (or I got use to how slow it was :) )
Thank You for you quick reply and I'm very happy for the new update... So far so good.

  • Windows server 2012 R2 PXE boot is unworkable slow, I have this exact same set-up working in 2008 R2 What can I do?

    Hi there
I'm trying to deploy a windows 7 image through Windows deployment services via PXE boot from a 2012 R2 server.
Issue:    PXE boot is extremely slow, it takes up to more than 60 minutes for the device to download download the PXE boot
Things I already tried to get this up and running:
I've tried to change the TFTP block size via command prompt and via regedit
I've changed the settings on the tab of the WDS role (go to WDS role -> properties on server -> Tab "tftp")
Both actions resulted in PXE boot being even slower than it already was.
To make sure this is not because of our environment I’ve set up the same configuration on a windows server 2008 R2, here PXE boot image is downloaded to the machine within 3 minutes.
Both servers are set up through Hyper-V this is the configuration:
    2008 R2:
    Memory: 4096 MB
    1 Virtual processor
    IDE controller 2 hard drives
    Network adapter
    2012 R2:
    Memory: 4096 MB
    32 virtual processors
    SCSI controller 2 hard drives
    Network adapter
I can’t imagine that PXE boot is not working because of the differences of the Hard drives controllers or because of the amount of the virtual processors.
Windows server 2012 R2 seems to handle PXE boot TFTP differently in comparison to 2008 R2.
Do you guys know what I can do/try to get this working?

    Hi Jacques Rodrigues,
You can run Windows Deployment Services on Hyper-V virtual machines,
that the performance will often be degraded, particularly during the Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) download phase. This phase is very resource-intensive and may
fail if insufficient resources are available on your server running Hyper-V.
If you are using multicast, Check if IGMP Snooping is enabled i.e. Routers that support multicasting. In particular, Internet Group Membership Protocol (IGMP) snooping should
be enabled on all devices. This will cause your network hardware to forward multicast packets only to those devices that are requesting data. If IGMP snooping is turned off, multicast packets are treated as broadcast packets, and will be sent to every device
    in the subnet.

It seems like with the Windows Server 2012 R2 GPO's, this setting is no longer available? How do we disable RDP compression so that we can use it with Riverbed products?
