Serial # template w/linked story on path to easily edit number batches

Hey!!! I am making an indesign template for a customer they need it to serialize their product with a laser engraver and this jig that is already made from this same file. What it is is a series of 56 - 1.1" circles with 3 digit serial # following the path of each circle. I am going nuts trying to get this to work but I can't do it! If it is all one linked story I can just drop in a new batch of numbers and they will all be in the right place in 1 second! If it were not following the path I would have been done hours ago! I have linked up the file here so you can see any help thanks!!! I hope I am explaining this well!
http://binarydetroit.com/helpmeplz/

A real pain in the neck, but doable. And I'd make this a non-facing document and set it up on the master page.
I'd start with one circle, then click on it with the type on a path tool (cilci the triangle in the lower right of the text tool). Zoom in and use the direct select tool to adjust the inport and outport positions to the desired locations and set the length of the text on the circle.
Select the circle and use step and repeat to build the grid.
Click the outport of the first circle, then click in the path area of the second circle that has the text to link them. This should highlight the second circle and you should see the threading arrow inside the inport. Click the outport and continue thread the paths until the whole page is threaded.
I didn't have any luck with using auto-flow to just place my number list, so I selected my page and from the pages panel menu selected Override All Master Objects. Then I just selecet the text file and clicked the loaded cursor on the path or the first circle (without holding a modifier key). If you have more numbers than circles, add a page and repeat the master objects override, then pick up the overset from the last circle onthe previous page and click on a new circle. I didn't test , but it might work to add multiple pages first, do the overrides, then place the list holding the Alt/Opt key to leave the cursor loaded for each page.

  • Template not linking to files in folders

    Hi,
    I have a template that is for about 5 folders. Each folder
    has 3 html files in it. All the files in these folders are
    identical.
    The template has links set to go directly to those identical
    pages in each folder.
    For example:
    Template
    - home
    - about
    - contact
    Folder
    - home.html
    - about.html
    - contact.html
    The problem, is that when I save and post, Dreamweaver is
    adding /Templates/ into the link:
    /Templates/home.html
    How can I set the link, so that it stays in the same
    directory/folder? I have tried ../ but this will take it to the
    root directory.
    Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks.

    Which DW? In versions prior to DW8, you would have to make
    your links like
    this -
    <a href="@@('whatever.html')@@"...
    and DW will leave those links alone. The downside is that by
    leaving them
    alone, they will not be managed, so you'll have to do that
    yourself.
    In DW8, just set your Site Definition > Templates to NOT
    update relative
    links. Make sure you understand how this will affect other
    relative links
    that you may *want* DW to manage....

  • CS6 - Export to HTML & link to server path

    I've got an InDesign document which has some linked EPS and JPG images. I've added all of the links and text into the articles panel, and then exported to HTML with these settings:
    GeneralContent order - same as articles panel
    Image
    Copy images - link to server path
    Path on server - "assets/images/"
    File extension - "jpg" (note, not ".jpg" as this would result in "..jpg" being added as the image extension...)
    AdvancedCSS - embedded CSS, including style definitions and local overrides (which InDesign seems to ignore and generates an external style sheet anyway...)
    The result - the EPS images have been converted to PNGs, renamed and the HTML now links to those. The images I want to use in the website have the same name as the EPS files - so I have to go in and change the src attributes before it all works as I had planned.
    I have not set any custom rasterisation for the images.
    Any ideas on how to fix this?

    I am having the same problem!  I also cannot use the 'original' option for image export.  It will convert and rename the original files and put them in a folder.  It does not appear to be working as advertised.  Did you find a solution?  I am using CS6 v.8.0.

  • Missing Internal Linked Story (CS6)

    Hello all!
    I have just opened a document in InDesign CS6 which I created myself a few days back. I copied and pasted text from Microsoft Word to Notepad and then into InDesign (I probably didn't need to do the Notepad step but just in case).
    The text is divided in small boxes so just importin the Word Document wouldn't have worked for me in this case.
    Regardless, now that I have opened this file again, I get some weird link error where it says I am missing story links in each box. Here is the screenshot.
    The text is still present and editable and acts just as any text, which is what I expect it to do. However I don't understand the issue with the missing linked story, especially since I didn't even import anything: I copied and pasted the text.
    I have no idea of how to solve this, in practice it doesn't affect the document and I can export the file with no issues, but I still would like to know what InDesign is on about.
    Thanks in advance!

    Heya, sorry what preference are you referring to?
    Edit: Oh nevermind the screenshot didn't load for some reason. It's turned off already. But maybe for some reason it was on when I first made the file *shrug* Although I didn't touch that option at all.
    Also if you read that option carefully it says "When placing", and I didn't place anything, I copied and pasted.
    Nice try though, thanks anyway
    I guess it's a bug rather than something solvable by logic.

  • Why cant I copy and paste local links (file:/// or bookmarks) into an editable page (browser or email) in Fx 4 or 5, as I COULD in Fx 3?

    During the time I was using Fx 3, I found out that I could copy and past links and bookmark folders into an editable page in firefox, and manipulate those links just as I could in my emails for instance -- copy and paste to my hearts content! and the links would remain clickable--
    now, having switched to Fx 4, and then a week later Fx 5, I find out that in neither of these versions can I still do this same operation-- the links from file (file:///) and bookmarks to local pages (including about:config, or about:blank) used to show up in an editable page (and then saved in the scrapbook extension, but even if saved onboard my disk, no matter) as a clickable link-- (no, about config would not open up from a saved page, Im trying to remember more examples here, the LINK would still be a correct hyperlink)
    now, in Fx 4 and 5, these links are copied to the clipboard as text only!
    this saddens greatly-- I was making wonderful use of this feature back in Fx 3.6-- but Fx 5 really is faster, and so far, ALL the extensions Ive come to LOVE still work great in Fx5, and things happen faster

  • Crystal 2011 linking table with a String and a Number

    Hello,
    I am able to retrieve the data I want with the following  SQL Query in SQL: If I try to create it in Crystal 2011 APPLRUNN is a string and CNTBTCH is a number. Is there a way I can link these two fields if one is a string and the other is a number ?
    SELECT
    ENADV.APPLRUNN, ENPBD.CNTBTCH,
    ENPBD.DOCNBR
    FROM
    ENADV INNER JOIN
    ENPBD ON ENADV.APPLRUNN = ENPBD.CNTBTCH
    Thanks,
    Debbie

    Hi Debbie,
    You cannot linking  table with a string and a number. I have given a example query:
    SELECT
    ENADV.APPLRUNN, ENPBD.CNTBTCH,
    ENPBD.DOCNBR
    FROM
    ENADV INNER JOIN
    ENPBD ON
    ENADV.APPLRUNN = ENPBD.APPLRUNN  or ENADV.CNTBTCH = ENPBD.CNTBTCH
    I modify last sentense because one table primary key is equal to another table Foreign key i.e
    one table ID field = another table ID field or one table NAME field = another table Name field.
    Please understand my intenction and check linking fields in tables.
    Thanks,
    DJ

  • Trying to attach a Story script to a multicam edit

    I have a multicam edit of an interview which has been transcribed in Adobe Story.  I'm trying to attach the script so I can access points of the interview through the script metadata. Premiere doesn't seem to want to attach a script to a multicam sequencs, yet if I attach it to the individual clips (there are five of them) I don't see the script in the multicam meta.  How can I best utilize the embed script feature in multicam?  I am updated to all current versions of CC.  Thanks!

    I'm trying to do this as well. Trying to figure out the best post workflow when dealing with transcriptions and multi camera edits with separately recorded audio.
    So far I've attached Story scripts to audio files, then merged those audio files with video, then attached the story script to the merged clip and that all works fine. But seems like I can't create a multicamera edit from merged clips.
    Is there any way to attach a story script to a multicamera edit? Or at least see the script that is attached to clips within the multicamera edit?

  • Page based on template don't update image path

    When I create a new page beased on a template in the
    templates folder some of the image paths don't update.
    A div in the template has the following style code
    "background-image: url(../images/leftframe.png);
    background-repeat:repeat-y".
    When the new page is created, and before it is saved in the
    correct folder the code turns to: "background-image:
    url(file:///MYDISK/CLIENTFOLDER/client_webpages/images/leftframe.png);
    background-repeat:repeat-y".
    This is perfect, because the new page still don't know its
    correct path. But in CS3, and earlier versions of Deamweaver the
    path was updated when the new page was saved. That does not happen
    in CS4.
    Linked css files and other image and file paths are updated
    as it should, but this div style is not.
    I know the work arounds; move the div style code to the css
    file, open the html page in an other html editor correct it and
    paste it back...
    I don't want to spend time changing my templates or perform
    work arounds when it is obvious that there is a bug in CS4.
    Others with the same experience or a way to solve the
    problem? Or should I send Adobe a bug report?

    Here's a better one - make the link root relative rather than
    document
    relative.

  • Moving Thin Template w/ Linked Clones

    We've got 6 Gold Thin Provisioned Templates and have filled the datastore they are on. Long story how this happened. The process that is used is a user Clones to Workspace using a Linked clone and then deploys the machine from there.
    I need to spread these thin provisioned templates out across other datastores so this doesnt happen in the future but my understanding is that if I use the Consolidate action to move one of these templates this will effect all of the linked clones. Is this correct?
    If so is there any other way to move a Thin Template to a new datastore and not break the linked clones?
    The only other option is making a copy\clone of the template and moving it but the problem so far with that is this converts the template from Thin to Thick as we are using LM 4.0.2. So if I Cloned the template and it converted to Thick is there a way to get it back to Thin again?
    Then I could take those new Thin Templates and spread them out and those could be used as the old ones get undeployed.
    Thanks for reading this far and any suggestions.

    Option 1: Move an existing Template and all related VMs:
    SSMove will relocate (cut/paste) an entire linked clone tree between datastores.  However, I would want you to be on Lab Manager 4.0.4 (final version) as there are some minor improvements to the tool.
    You also need to undeploy all the related VMs to do this.
    Option 2: move the template only via a full consolidate.
    This move the template only.  The template gets consolidated to the new datastore.  Any new VMs provisioned from the template will go to the new datastore where the vmdk resides.
    The previous VMs will still exist and function.  As they are deleted, space will be freed on the previous drive.  If all related VMDKs to the orignial tree are deleted, then the entire tree will be cleaned up.

  • Linked Image file path cleanup

    Regex frustrates me, especially with trying to work with slashes... I just haven't got it yet. I'm looking just for a code snippet to thrown in another clean up script I use. To standardize to UNC, as some templates were created on workstaions (also Mac vs PC) that were incositently mapped (i.e. W:/ or X:/ etc.). Blown a day messing with this so far, maybe reaching out for help would work... Thanks in advanced!
    var gDoc = app.activeDocument;
    var gLinks = gDoc.links;
    var gCounter = 0;
         for (var i = gLinks.length-1; i >= 0 ; i--) {
              var currentLink = gLinks[i];
              var oldPath = currentLink.filePath;
              oldPath = oldPath.replace(/:|\\/g, "\/");
    // Intention
    // IF the drive letter W:/ or X:/ is used
    // IF case is \\OHFILE02\Personalization\
    // THEN
    // REPLACE with \\ohfile02\Personalization\ (string replace: would be case sensitive, not just all to lowerCase)
    // ALSO above would be for all linked images as it looks like it's looping through currentLink, is that correct?
    Thanks again!

    I don' t pretend to know all the ins and outs of this, but I've beat my head on the same wall to know that you have to use two slashes to find or replace one. In other words:
    \\ = "\"
    \/  = "/"
    \\\\ = "\\"
    I also know that you can use "/i" in the first part of the replace statement to make it case insensitive. "/gi" makes it global and case insenstive so:
    oldpath.replace(/\\\\ohfile02\\Personalization\\/gi,"whatever")
    should catch all variations of upper and lowercase, so you end up with "whatever\Personalization\"
    As for the replace string, I think that what you type is what you get.

  • Help with linked files/ compound paths please

    Hi - I am working with an illustrator file from another designer which has a compound path with linked files - when you link a new file the image is automatically resized and clipped to the path.  I am able to edit it but i want to make my own from scratch and can't figure it out. I'm working with Illustrator CS6. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Hi Steve - thanks for the reply - my question was a bit vague as I wasn't entirely sure what I was working with but I think your point about the new linked image scaling to the same size as the existing file has helped me understand it a bit more.  What I want to know how to do is to make an entirely new file with a clipping mask that I then link an image to.  I made a file with a clipping mask on the page and then chose file>place but the image I import is not being clipped (I ticked the link option when importing it) I see it working with the existing file I'm working with but I need to know how to make a new one myself.
    If this makes it clearer here's what I want to do ...
    I am making a banner, I have 3 flat jpegs of t-shirts that I want to place on the banner without their white background.  I made a clipping mask the same shape as the outline of the t-shirt and now I want to import the jpeg so it is a linked file and is clipped by the clipping mask and so I can use it in future to import different t-shirt image in without scaling and clipping them each time.
    REally appreciate your help, thanks.
