Serious accessibility regression in Acrobat 9 UI, low constrast black toolbars

I've been evaluating whether to upgrade to Acrobat 9, or stay with Acrobat 8. Acrobat 9 fixes a Javascript auto-crash code segment I want to use in a PDF Form my business uses (the PDF currently coaches the users do a less user friendly workaround in Acrobat 8). I see in Acrobat 9, Adobe reworked the interface. Form editing is now modal to my displeasure. Even worse, there are these garish candy Vista-ish black low contrast tool and side bar. So I turned on accessible colors through Control Panel->Display->Appearance Tab->Color Scheme Drop-down List->High Constrast White. I use the Windows 2000 interface, not the blue XP interface. In Acrobat 8, it obeyed the accessible color scheme, as shown in the attached screenshots. In Acrobat 9, it ignores them (see attachments). Adobe claims Acrobat 9 follows legal/regulatory/industry accessibility compliance at  http://www.adobe.com/accessibility/products/compliance/acrobat_9_508.html#softwaredetails  and at http://www.adobe.com/accessibility/products/acrobat/faq.html#q7 . I see no way of getting rid of the white on black low contrast toolbars/sidebars in Acrobat 9. The method that worked in Acrobat 8, doesn't in Acrobat 9. I see nothing in the release notes for 9.1.0, 9.1.1, 9.1.2, or 9.1.3 about accessibility, so I assume this bug exists in later versions. Am I doing something wrong in changing the UI colors of Acrobat 9, or Adobe dropped the ball on this issue?
Versions details:
Windows XP SP2,  Acrobat 9.0.0 Pro
Windows XP SP3,  Acrobat 8.1.0 Pro

  • Accessibility (tagging) in Acrobat 9.3.3

I routinely tag single-page and 2-page documents for accessibility after converting them from Word 2007, and usually this is pretty straightforward. Today, I'm trying to tag a 115-page document (a fairly simple document, not a lot of graphics), and I've run into significant roadblocks.
I've had Acrobat automagically add tags during the conversion process, and as usual there are plenty of artifacts to weed out. Sometimes they're so numerous that the best option is to clear all tags on a page and draw them in from scratch. In most cases, I will at least highlight them tag-by-tag and make adjustments to the tagging order. I've come to accept this as the standard aggravation of accessibility tagging in Acrobat.
My immediate problem results from highlighting a tagged area (a level 1 Heading, for example) and changing its tagging order by dragging and dropping within the "Order" panel in the Navigation pane. As I've done this today, in several places, the text within these areas has simply disappeared! You can imagine what an annoyance this might be in a document this large, given the further complication that there is no "undo" option while tagging for accessibility in Acrobat. I've had to be very careful to save often, then to revert to the last saved version when the whole process comes crashing down -- which it has done consistently and often.
Has anyone seen this before? Better yet, has anyone resolved it?

I finally found out how to turn it off. It wasn't a Prefs thing after all but a button at the bottom of the Preflight window. I guess I must have clicked it by accident.
Not sure what value it has either since it never displays anything but a blank window with the message that there is nothing to view.
    Problem solved.

    Hi,
As the event log indicated, this is due to acrobat pdfmaker office com addin doesn't work well with Microsoft Word.
I would suggest you go ahead and try to upgrade your Adobe product to the latest version and see if issue persists.
Or contact the support of Adobe and see if there is a known compatibility issue or not.

    Hi lynnb,
If you already have Acrobat  installed, there's no need to download it again. When you launch Acrobat, you should be given an option to "License this Software." Click that option, and then log in with your Adobe ID and password, and you should be all set!
Please let us know how it goes.

  • Unrecognized database format error when trying to access addin to Acrobat reader?

I get an "Unrecognized database format" error when trying to access addin to Acrobat reader so I can use Pro to edit a pdf document?  What do I do so that teh ACCESS program aI am generating PDF's from uses Pro and not Reader?
    Thanks,
    Dan

Adobe Reader and Acrobat Professional are 2 different products. Reader is for free and limited as to what it can do an support.
Add-ins can only use features supported by Reader.
You need Acrobat to edit PDF forms. Acrobat no longer supports access to SQL databases through Acrobat JavaScript.
If you have an add-in and Acrobat can use it for filling a PDF form from Access, you need to talk to the developer to see if it can work with Reader.

  • Accessing PDF with Acrobat viewer javabean

But I also wanted markup/annotations features in the same acrobat viewer. Is there a way to implement these features? The api given above in the link doesn't seem to provide all the updated features of acrobat. Any kind of help is appreciated.

  • Acrobat 9 windows 7 adobe toolbar missing

New Dell, Windows 7 nothing special or tricky, installed Adobe Acrobat 9
pro and no toolbar appears in IE8. It's not in the manage add on files, and inside Adobe all I can see is
notation that it's not loaded but is in the program. always worked before in XP and Vista, any ideas anyone?
    TIA, Jim

Understood but there is no toolbar in IE8, whereas before in vista and XP I always had the Adobe toolbar to use. It simply isn't there, and I don't know how to reinstall it. A 'repair' did nothing. all references assume the install creates the toolbar for IE8 or whatever. I can create a pdf per page but again, the toolbar was key to capturing the entire page.
Hope this is a better explanaiton. Jim

  • Remote Access: Configure Video Playback to not go black

While using Remote Access Media server the display will go black in the middle of the video the sound will keep playing and if you touch your keypad or mouse fast enough the screen will start up again but if you aren't paying attention you may have to
sign back into your computer. Is there any settings either in Windows 8.1 or on Windows Server 2012 Essentials R2 that I can change to get this behavior to stop.
    Derek Smith

    Hi,
Regarding to your description, did you mean when the screen came black, if you didn’t do anything, you had to entry password and then log on computer
again? Or just the screen gone black, then you operate, the screen came back? Did you always encounter this issue at the same time when the video plays?
Based on current state, please refer to the path: Control Panel-> Power Options-> Change plan settings, then check the setting “Turn off the
display”. How many minutes you set to the setting? And, please follow the path: Control Panel-> Personalization-> Screen Saver, then check how long the waiting time you set.
By the way, would you please use another Player to play the video, will encounter the same issue?
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Justin Gu

Wow. I have not seen that question nor a discussion. I agree with James. I don't think it will, and if the power drain is different, maybe it'll be less and not more.
With a 10 hour battery, you have plenty of time to test it and see. If the battery depletes fast, just go back to the other way.
If you do try it, let us know what you discover.

  • Accessibility PDF using Acrobat 8

    Hi Dudes,
I am srinath - Newbie from India, for past two months im struggling with Accessibility Pdf. One of my serious error is after backgrounding some elements (running head at top of all pages) suddenly they got disappeared, but still those contents are there in hidden format. Please suggest me how to bring those contents visible in my pdf file.
    Steps i followed are,
    1. Selected TouchUp Reading Order from, Advanced -> Accessibility.
    2. Highlighted the content and set it as backgroud from TouchUp Reading Order Panel.
    Thanks in Advance
    Srinath.R

Very likely you have tucked the items under another object on the PDF page.
All too often this can be an outcome from use of TORU.
Sometimes this can be fixed by locating it in the Content panel and making position adjustments there.
After having Acrobat perform a best-estimate/guess about the Tag structure you need to enter the Structure Tree (in the Tags panel) to perform the majority of the clean up activity (there will always be some).
An addition - If you can do so, it is often easier to go back into the authoring file from which the PDF was created.
Use the authoring application's tag management to identify the header/footer content as meant to be an artifact.
With MS Word both Adobe PDFMaker and the Office Save As PDF-XPS features provide this as a "built-in" when the Accessibilty feature of each is engaged.
    Be well...

  • ISR/Adobe possible on Acrobat version lower then 7.0.x

    Dear forum,
Working with ISR/Adobe forms I know it is common sense to use the latest Acrobat reader version, or at least 7.0.1. At a customer site we face serious compatibility problems with other software when using versions from 7.0.X . So it seems we are stuck on 6.0.x. Maybe you mind that 6.0.2 is mentioned in the ISR cookbook as the first possible release of Acrobat reader.
Unfortunately, however 6.0.2 does not seem to work properly. My question is: does anybody have ISR/adobe running with a Acrobat reader 6.x? In other words, if anyone had experience with modifying the ISR scripts to get it work on a release lower then 7.0.x?
I’am looking forward to your answer,
    Hans GM

    Hi Hans,
could you let me in on the incompatibilities (software, release, etc.) at your customer's site (directly if you prefer). This is quite crucial for SAP. If one customer runs into issues, others are bound to as well. (So far, luckily, we haven't heard of this yet, so it would be important to analyze whether the issue really is around Reader.)
Some background on the topic of Reader: With continuing development on both Adobe and SAP side, new requirements and features came up and into the product over time (including a new PDF spec, 1.6 instead of 1.5). Some features also required work on the Reader. If anyone has attempted to adapt the scripts to Reader 6, they probably had a difficult time. SAP also recommends to go the latest Reader release instead of sticking with 6.0.X. Apart from the annyoing Update available pop-ups in Reader...
    Thanks in advance,

  • Access regression status field in bugdb

    Hello:
We are writing an application to create/edit a bug on Oracle BugDB. We found regression status is a field in RPTHEAD and its values are in table bug_lookups.
There are some state logic for that field. When the current value is empty, its drop down list will contain empty and 'candidate' selection. When regression status field is 'candidate', its drop down list will contain 'candidate', 'confirmed', 'rejected'.
When the value of regression field changes, one need to fill out some information on regression analysis dialog. There is another drop down list for regression causes.
    Could someone knowledgeable tell us:
    1) what are the APIs we can use to update the value of regression status?
    2) what are the tables holding the values for regression causes and comments on regression analysis dialog?
    3) which API is used to update users' comment from regression dialog in its table?
    4) does the state logic to show different LOV on regression status come from db itself or bugdb web application?
    Thanks.

    Hi Kerim,
Cisco avpair is used for cisco devices only. For other 3rd party devices, separate attribute is required to be pushed by radius server.
You have to add these attributes are defined under ACS 5 GUI >System Administration => Configuration =>Dictionaries =>Protocols => RADIUS => RADIUS VSA
Then in Authorization Profiles under Policy Elements =>Authorizations=>Network access=> Authorization profiles, we need to call it.
Here is the VSA for netscreen.
    Name=Netscreen
    IETF Code=3224
    VSA 1=NS-Admin-Privilege
    VSA 2=NS-Admin-Vsys-Name
    VSA 3=NS-User-Group
    VSA 4=NS-Primary-DNS-Server
    VSA 5=NS-Secondary-DNS-Server
    VSA 6=NS-Primary-WINS-Server

  • Pass SQL from Access 2000 to Acrobat

I have the need to pass dynamic SQL statements (including the use of variables) from Access 2000 to an Adobe form.  The Adobe form will then display the data that is gathered by the SQL.  While I am fairly good at Access and SQL, I am just beginning with Acrobat.  The forms are developed and coded in LiveCycle Designer.  The SQL code has the ability to directly access either the linked tables in the Access DB or the data tables on the SQL server.  Thank you for your help and time.

I did not find the 1.30 plugin. I finally got it to work by fooling oracle into thinking that I had a 9i database installed by manually creating the \oracle\ora91 directory.
    Thanks for your help though!

  • Accesse array entries within a lower VI hierarchy

    Hi
I would like to have access to an array elements within a subVI at lower hierarch. Right now using the property of "callers" I have access to VI refnum at the higher level and "Array elements reference number" enables me to write into the first element of the array but I would like to have access to all elements seperately.
Please consider that I am using LV 8.2 .

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Afshin,
as you already use property nodes you should wire the property "IndexValues" to show the wanted element and then read it's value by "ArrElem.Value". Or search the forum as there are other threads on this topic too
In general: the better (faster, no thread switches, [no] datacopies) way is to wire the array itself to the subvi !
