Serious audio trouble. 44/48 sync problem

I am posting this here too because maybe music and audio savvy people are over here as opposed to in the OSX forum.
I'm not sure if I need to contact Apogee support or call Apple.  I use an Apogee One audio interface.
Despite how I have my apps, OSX Audio Midi Setup, and my Apogee One set (everything set to either 44 or everything set to 48), I always end up with an audio sync problem with Photobooth now in Mountain Lion.  It never occured before I upgraded.  It's far too out of sync to simply be a system resource issue.  It's cleary a 44/48 descrepencey.  It's way out of sync.  If I go into Audio Midi Setup and ensure everything is 48, restart my computer, then Photobooth works fine.  Yet the second I start up an app like Garageband, the Photobooth audio jumps way out of sync.  Despite having the Garageband settings right (In GB audio settings I've tried both "System Setting" and "One") This happens regardless of what app I use - GB, Logic or Kontakt - all set to whatever the system settings are.
This is beyond frustrating as I need to make videos for school while I have my audio apps running.

UPDATE:  The problem occurs even when the Apogee One is completely disconnected.  While I am troubleshooting I am now only using the iMac onboard audio and mic.
I understand now that Garageband only works in 44100, so it's possible that if I had other things set to 48000, that starting Garageband would force some changes that might mess things up a bit.
So I'm only working with Kontakt now which I am absolutely certain is set to 48000.  I ensure that all the settings in OS X Audio Midi Setup are set to 48000.  Restart the computer.  Photobooth works fine, until I start Kontakt. Once I open the app, even before I load any samples,  Photobooth audio sync delay occurs and it's REALLY bad. I check the OS X Audio Midi Setup settings -  all are still set to 48000.  I verify that Kontakt is set to 48000, and it is.  So I'm at a loss.  Apple might be losing me over this.

  • Photo booth - audio video out of sync problem

    Hi
I'm using Mountain Lion 10.8.1 and Photo Booth 5.0
Photo Booth has severe audio video syncing problems!! When I record a video, the audio is out of sync with the video.
I managed to get it to "sort of" work: every time I want to record a video, I restart the program. I also wait a few seconds to say something after I started to record. Movies longer than a couple of minutes are always out of sync, even when I restart the program....
Untill now I haven't been able to find a sollution for this problem. I searched the web and more people are having these difficulties and don't know how to fix it either....
Maybe someone here knows the answer to fix this problem?
I hope apple will fix this problem in their next update???
    Nice regards!

    Hi
I found the solution for the audio / video sync problem in Photo Booth!!!!!
Go to your Launchpad and open audio/midi configuration. Make sure that your input and output has the same settings. I changed the input and output to 2 channel 16-bit 44100,0 hz. And this did the trick for me!!
Now I can record as many video's after each other without restarting the program and they are all synced one hundred procent!!!!

  • Audio Going out of sync problem, Help Please

    Hey all.
So I have just filmed about 3 hours worth of gaming videos using XSplit recorder,
in a mp4 format, and when I played it back using VLC it all seemed fine.
However I went to import it into premiere to start editing it I noticed the sound was completly out.
I have recorded some audio and video times listed below to show the sync times and how they are out.
    Video          Audio
    00:41:24  -  00:44:09
    47:46:25  -  50:11:12
As you can see it gets worse over time.
I could manualy do a time shift on the audio to align it but thats a lot of work as I have multiple clips to edit and would like a proper fix for it
I did some quick research and found one fix was to make the sequence settings the same as the video file, but that didnt work for me.
also trying to conform the video file also didnt help me out.
    Anyone have any other ideas?
    Thanks In Advance

  • FCP insists my audio is NTSC, causes sync problems

I have a project with a single video track from a still camera at 30fps, which I converted to ProRes at the same frame rate. I recorded audio separately and want to replace the camera audio with this.
When I import the audio track, it drifts out of sync with the video. I was able to track the problem down to the fact that FCP is playing it back at a rate adjusted by the NTSC 1000/1001 factor. Exporting the project as XML shows that the audio has NTSC=TRUE. My sequence is set up as 30fps (not 29.97) and the video has NTSC=FALSE as expected.
I am going crazy trying to fix this. I have tried several sequence settings, changed my default sequence settings, edited the XML and re-imported but to no avail. FCP insists that my audio be played at the wrong rate. I finally edited the audio in Soundtrack Pro and time-stretched to compensate. This is nuts.
I thought I'd worked with media like this before without similar problems. Why is it doing this? And what does NTSC have to do with a pure audio track anyway?
    Bruce

I may have worked my way around this for my current project: I tried harder to make my default sequence settings 30fps and it seemed to stick this time. The imported audio did not get the NTSC attribute.
I still don't understand why I have to change my global application defaults to avoid behavior that I don't see why anyone would want.

  • Premiere CS4 - Audio sync problems, Encoding Problems

    Hi,
I've been using Premiere CS3 for encoding 20-25 minute videos to deploy on a Flash Media Streaming server.
Today I upgraded to CS4 and everything that I render to FLV/FV4, H264 or Quicktime format has serious audio sync problems when I use AAC as the audio codec. Unfortunately for me, AAC is the codec that I need to use for the streaming server. The audio is synchronized to begin with, but it gets progressively unsynched as the video progresses.
Has anyone else had this problem? I'm using bitrates of 256 kbps, 512kbps for the video and 24 kbps / 32 kbps for the audio.
Another thing that I've noticed is that many of the options that I used when encoding videos are no longer available!! For instance, I cannot generate hinting tracks for Quicktime, and most of the audio frequencies are gone for Quicktime as well.
    What a disappointment:(

Seems to be an on going issue with no response from Adobe.  Have the same issue with the audio running ahead of the video.  (Cool if this was an old Japanese monster video).
Running CS4 PP & AME all updates are current.  Nvida Quardro CX (current drivers 4.20.006) used several formats (Elemental h.264 to MPEG-2) same issue.

  • 'Source play' and 'audio-video sync' problems with PE8 on fast WIN7 64 bit computer

I am transferring Hi8 videos, about 2 hours long, to my WIN7 64 bit computer with PE8.  [Dell Mobile Precision M4400 Computer Workstation (Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 500GB/4GB); NVIDIA Quadro FX 770M, 512MB] I seem to have several problems:
First, after importing the file (.avi), I get a message about ‘dropped frames.’
Secondly, when I try to play the video in the source monitor, the audio plays but the video doesn’t; it only shows the first frame [this is after waiting until the video is ?recognized? ]   I can use the shift-arrow key and see that the video is there.
Thirdly, I can play the .avi file in other players, e.g., avidemux or PE pro CS5 on another computer.  There, I see that the audio and video are not in sync; the audio can be up to 300 ms ahead of the video (as determined using avidemux).
    Questions:
    1.  Why doesn’t the source monitor play the video? Is this a problem with PE8 (latest update as of 3 March 2011) on aWIN7 64 bit computer (intel duo core. 3 GHz).
    2. Is the audio-video sync problem the result of the ‘dropped frames?’ How can PE8 correct this? Avoid this? Or, is it coincidence?

"I think you're telling me you're using a backwards compatible Digital8  camcorder to capture your video as DV-AVIs. Is that right?" YES
"Are you using  Premiere Elements to do this capturing?" YES, AS ABOVE PE8
"Go to the File menu and select Properties. It should show a standard DV codec being used for your video and audio."
WMP v12 is dumb. Under properties, media, it says 'video.'  However, avidemux gave me the information state above: video -- Codec 4CC: dvsd, frame rate: 29.971 fps; audio -- codec: PCM, channels: Stereo, frequency: 48 kHz.
    So, back to the Questions:
    1.  Why doesn’t the source  monitor play the video? Is this a problem with PE8 (latest update as of 3  March 2011) on aWIN7 64 bit computer (intel duo core. 3 GHz).

  • Audio sync problem with videos imported from iPod Touch

I have an iPod Touch 4th Generation that I used to shoot video at a family birthday party. When I imported the footage into iMovie '11, the audio is not in sync with the video (video is about two seconds behind audio) and there is only the left channel of audio. I verified that the video on the iPod plays just fine--no audio sync problem, both left and right channels work. I just upgraded to iOS 5 on the iPod Touch. The iMac is running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
As a workaround, I can import the video into iPhoto instead. When I play the video in iPhoto, there are no audio sync problems and both channels of audio can be heard. I have imported other iPod Touch videos successfully into iMovie '11 in the past few months, but this has been the first time these problems have occurred. Any help would be appreciated.

Premiere cannot handle clips with variable framerate.
Your converted clips need to have constant framerate.
Otherwise use a converter like Handbrake.

  • Major "BUG" in Imovie 9 - Audio Sync Problem on Export  !

Well I'm a hard-core Apple user from day one, but unfortunately today I'm not to proud about the latest version of Imovie 9.
It seems there has been a "MAJOR audio sync problem on export" in Imovie 9, since July 2009. Apple knows about this bug for a long time now, but didn't release any bugfix yet!
    Here's what it's all about:
It seems if you use the (custom /manual) speed-adjustments and not the preset slider speeds, you will experience (after exporting your movie) annoying bursts of audio from clips that had been set to mude. The strange thing is that you will only experience this audio-bug after exporting, you will NOT experience it in the project playback mode!
    Here's what you can do:
Find ALL the clips in your Project that are Speed Adjusted.
Instead of using a "Custom Speed" percentage, use any of the "Preset Speeds"
    Preset Speeds on the Slider = 12.5%, 25%, 50%, 100%, 200%, 400%, 800%
Then, export your project as usual.
    No more sync issues.
Really hope That Apple will come up with a real BUGFIX soon.
It's a shame that a major bug in a otherwise GREAT PRODUCT, hasen't been fixed yet!
What's wrong with Apple?...this is not one of their finest hours.
Still A BIG fan from Imovie HD,...I'll chance to Imovie 9 when the bugs are finaly fixed!

This is TERRIBLE! I have spent so much time working on this project, and I really don't want to adjust the speed settings to the preset levels, BECAUSE I need to motion of the video to match certain musical points. I can't re-film my video, and I needed this project done TODAY. I made a music video with some kids at summer camp, and today is the last day- the day we were supposed to all watch it together, and now, I've got NOTHING!!!! (Because I can't export it without all those glitches!)
I am MAJORLY DISAPPOINTED on this one. I've made movies in windows movie maker before, and purposely used imovie, because you know, everything on macs is supposed to be better. Well, I guess I was wrong.

  • External Audio Sync Problem

I have video captured at 23.98 fps and I'm trying to match up external audio to the source audio on the clip. The external audio is a 48kbps wav file. When I match the beginning of the clip, the end goes way out of sync. If I try to alter the speed and get the end to match, the middle is still out of sync. I don't have this problem with video captured at 29.97 fps. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Tom, I'm having the same problem. Start with an AVI 30fps clip. Export to DV standard everything at 29.97. All works well. Then match up some sound taken at 48k on a very reliable, stable set of tools - used them before with straight DV from a Canon DVX 100A with zero syncing problems - and the movie and it's sound come up too short by a second or so over fifteen minutes. We should not be having this problem. Did you ever get it solved? Im on FCP version 6.
    Thanks.

  • Premiere removes black footage on import causing audio sync problems.

    Hello,
Strange problem at the moment. I've exported DSLR footage and audio from Premiere as H.264 - works fine - its my usual export and one I'm allways happy with for most uses. No sync problems, but some black footage (or blank footage).
When I import this into Premiere again, the black footage seems to be removed and thus the audio is completely out of sync. Any thoughts?

I'm inclined to say observer/operator error here.  I don't believe it's possible for PP to do as you claim, so I'm skeptical of your conclusion.

  • Sound bitrate not the same. Audio sync problem. Clip not segmenting.

Hi. I used FCP to edit various wedding videos. I have never had problems edditing my own videos in NTSC dv or hd. Somone asked me to edit their tapes wich have been recorded in PAL ( european) format. I don't know what amera or format they used but when i try to import them i keep getting the sound out of sync error. I checked and it seems that the sound is ok but would like to get rid of this error just to be sure. I am importing as dv-pal in fcp. any ideas as to how to find out the bitrate or sound type or how to get rid of this error? like i said in NTSC i don't have issues. Also in NTSC when i import a clip it segmets it to 1 clip per shot and for PAL it does not do that . It makes the whole tape one clip. Any sugestions? Thank you.

To check the audio sample rate easily in the browser just scroll the blue bar at the bottom of the browser. If you haven't rearranged the columns it should be around the middle somewhere.
Curious, is your audio out of sync in the viewer as well as the timeline/canvas? If it is in sync in the vieweruse Shanes multi-clip sequence trick to create a sequence with the correct settings. Control click on one of the clips, choose make multiclip sequence, then delete the extra muticlip sequence folder from the browser. As long as all of the imported clips have the same settings they will all fit nicely into this new sequence.
But... if the clips are out of sync in the viewer then you have a problem with the way they were captured.
You used the word import. Just to clarify, are you importing clips from a disk or hard drive that SOMEONE ELSE previoulsy captured? Or are you using the term import to describe capturing the footage into your computer from the source tapes yourself. Import and capture are two totally different things.
If you are importing data that someone else already captured and the audio is out of sync then you need to either recapture the tapes or get him to recapture them because they were no doubt captured with the wrong settings. If you are importing yourself, find out what camera they were shot with and get the settings.

  • Audio sync problem: exporting from FCP to Pro tools or soundtrack pro

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Final Cut Pro sound export for mastering.....sync problem
    Hey,
I'm editing a 30 minute film and I have done most of the sound edit in FCP and Soundtrack pro and I want to now bring all the sound into pro tools to master the sound but every time i export sound into pro tools it seems to stretch by two or three seconds.
I have tried OMF, AIFF, XML, and Quicktime audio file sut to no avail!!!!
There are 50 tracks in the file so it is quiet large. It's not that there are handles of the file also as when I sync the file with the audio track with the video it syncs in one place but it is still out of sync in another.........It's as if the audio has been stretched!?!
If anyone has any advice it'd be much appreciated
    Keith

Try mixing down the audio first. Sequence/Render Only/Audio mixdown.
You could even try exporting the audio with the Export QT movie command using "current settings" and reimport that file, Add that mixed down file to a copy of the sequence. If it syncs in FCP I'd think it will sync on export too.

  • Frustrating audio sync problem with MJPG clips!

I make short films from our family trips, using the jpg:s and mjpg clips made with our Canon compact digital camera. This has worked fine (since PE 2). Now I often get a frustrating audio problem on SOME of the MJPG:s, SOMETIMES.
When I play the clip in PE7, after 0.5 - 1 sec the audio jumps back to start, before it continues to the end along with the video. This makes the audio out of sync with the video (lagging 0,5 – 1 seconds).
The only way to fix this is to separate the audio track from the video, cut the start of the audio (to where it jumps back to the start) and then move the audio track to make it in sync. Besides being a tedious way to do on all clips, the audio track is not possible to extend “in the other end”, so I have to cut the video at the end as well…
However, this is not happing on all MJPG clips but only on some.
Also, the clip looks fine in other programs, e.g. wmp or windows movie maker.
I have tried other MJPG decoders but that does not make any difference (so it’s obviously no problem with the video). The audio is PCM Audio 44100Hz, 706 kb/s mono.
Now, when I tried repairing the PE7 installation, updating DirectX, removing all caches in the project directory, rebooting, it worked! The clip I was testing was in sync!
But, the next day I noticed the sync problem again on a lot of other clips… I then thought I should try to force PE to reanalyze the video again, so I remove the cache-directories (did not help) and moved the project file to another directory (this did not help, but on the other hand, I didn’t see PE7 analyzing the video again, so maybe there is a cache somewhere else??)
I noticed (looking at properties on the clip in the preview window in PE7), that the original audio is 44100Hz mono, but PE7 converts it to 48000Hz mono. Don’t know if there is some problem there, but it should not be any difference on different clips from the same source… (and the “jump back” in audio is 0,5-1 seconds regardless of clip length, and not the 9% that the difference in frequency would suggest + the audio plays in “normal speed”).
    I’ve run out of ideas!!
Please, does anybody have any constructive ideas or tips on what to try? Are there more caches to clear? Are there conflicts with another program, like wmp?
(I use PE 7.0 on a 4Gb, quadcore system running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit.)
    // G

Thanks, I suppose I can start batch-converting my mjpg movies before importing them inte PE7, if that would make this problem disappear. I'll try that (I have FormatFactory installed, but VirtualDub seems like a nice tool if that is better), although that would make the process a bit more long-winded...
Regarding GSPOT info on a file that works and one doesn't, there are typically no difference between them (except length and content, of course). In fact, as I mentioned above, the same movie did not work until I did some reinstalling, clearing caches etc. Then the same movie suddenly worked OK again.
I attach the GSPOT info on that file.
(I never had this problem on my older XP system that run PE2...).
I will try converting to see if the problem disappears.
    Thanks!

  • Audio sync problem with sony video walkman input

i purchased a sony video walkman to ingest mini dv into fce1, using a 1ghz g4 imac with os 10.3.9. 256mb of ram. i made the purchase to overcome the same sync problem i had when ingesting long clips directly from a canon xl-1.

i'm buffaloed at this point: how can i capture longer clips without a loss of sync?
could the problem still be related to having shot the material on an xl-1? could it be related to only having 256mb of ram?
