Serious Error Shut Down when Burning DVD

When attempting to burn DVD, Premiere Elements 3.0 immediately says there has been a serious error and program must shut down. Video was captured from camcorder, is about 12 minutes, just a couple of scene buttons on scene menu. Using an HP 2.4 ghz quad-core PC with 3 GB ram. I'm using DVD burner in other programs with no problem.

Success---I followed some troubleshooting links and the one that worked was as follows:
4. Re-create the Premiere Elements PluginCache.
The PluginCache is a Windows registry entry that contains information regarding the status of all native and third-party plug-ins used with Premiere Elements. To re-create the file, hold down the Shift key while choosing Start > Programs > Adobe Premiere Elements 7.0. Release the key when the Select Initial Workspace window appears.
Thanks for all the help...hard to believe the fix is as simple as holding down the shift key as the progam starts!!

  • IMac shuts down when burning DVD

I'm trying to burn a dl DVD for the first time. I have ~3700 items taking up 6.5GB to send to a friend.
Twice when I have tried to do this my iMac has just shutdown, like pulling the plug. It seemed to happen just a little after it displayed "writing first track." Twice it gave me a message that the drive wouldn't do this (yes, I forgot to write it down, it was late).
    Any suggestions

    Gday Aaron,
Sounds like your machine might be overheating for some reason? Maybe try quitting all applications but the burning application and set the burn speed lower to get the job done? If your mac shuts down with no warning it may mean its protecting itself from overheating. If it continues you may want to have an Apple Service Centre look at it. Hope this helps.

Set your Premiere Elements DVD output to a folder on your hard drive and then use the FREE Imgburn to burn the folder to disc for DVD... Premiere Elements does NOT burn to a folder for BluRay (send the author a PayPal donation if you like his program)
Read http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1322583 for notes on installing Imgburn WITHOUT any toolbar add-ons... Set Imgburn to use the slowest burn speed your drive and media will use... I set my burn speed to 1x and let Imgburn adjust to the actual minimum

  • Error Code- 6 When Burning DVDs/ CDs- Any Ideas

I recently had a problem burning DVDs from iMovie due to an error code- 6 (whatever that is!) I had put this problem to one side for a number of months, on account of the fact I don't burn that many DVDs. I have now found the problem has spread to CDs as well.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can solve this, or is it new drive time?
    iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.2.x)   1Ghz Power PC

    Hi Skinner,Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Firstly you can't burn DVDs from iMovie!
Under OS 9 Error 6 was an overflow error, although I can't confirm its the same under OS X it sounds like it could be a buffer overflow issue in iDVD. This would mean that the computer cannot supply the data to the drive quickly enough. Try the following things (which admittedly are undesirable but may be neccesary):
Close down all Applications not directly involved in what you're doing to free up processor time and memory.
Burn at a lower speed (choose 1x or 2x rather than 4 x).
Try different media those PC World branded disc may not be as good as a Verbatim.
    Hope this helps

You're using the Finder to burn?
A Google search on this error code turns up a lot of
topics. Some point to the media as the culprit,
others point to Tiger, some to the drive itself.
Fuji isn't a bad brand of media, but it's not
    amongst the best, either.
Generally, an older burner can use 16X media, but
would obviously only be able to burn at the maximum
speed of the drive. It's possible that your drive
doesn't recognize the media code on the disc and
refuses to burn. Sometimes a firmware update to the
    drive can solve this problem.

  • Cd/DVD not burning.  Error Code 0x8002006E when burning DVD's

I have a MacBook Black and am trying to burn cd's and dvd's. I have tried multiple brands of DVD and CD and can get the cd's to burn once in a while with a microboards printable cd. When they don't burn I get either an error saying something about not being able to calibrate laser power, or it goes through like it's burning and shows up on the desktop, but when I go to open the disk, there is nothing on it. DVD's never finish, giving me the error code 0x8002006E. It will also not read any DVDr's on the machine. Stamped DVD's (store bought)are fine, but multiple brands of DVDr will not read. All of the burned DVD's I have are personal movies and music videos that I made on the machine. Anyone have any suggestions? Is my superdrive toast?

You can check in system profile and select disc burning to verify what cd/dvds are readable by your superdrive....Also with that error message you can try removing any extra ram chip installed, with that model powerbook it also has onboard ram built into logic...being a disc reading problem id say its the superdrive itself, you can try cleaning the lens with those cleaning discs you buy from electronic stores..Burn disc whilst running on power adaptor and not battery...
just a few things to try might help you

  • Error code 0x80020042 when burning DVD

I recently updated my 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo MacBook Pro with 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM and MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857 Superdrive to Mac OS X (10.5.6) and installed the latest updates.
Since updating I have not been able to use Burn to burn DVDs. I get the following error - Burning "xxx" failed because the disc cannot be written to. (Error code 0x80020042). I have successfully used these DVDs before the upgrade. The DVDs that I am using are TDK double layer DVD +R (Item code: DVD+R85AA).
    Can anyone suggest a fix.

I have used cleaning kit from an audio/video store. It's basically a CD with a pair of brushes underneath. It has restored a failing optical drive in my tray-loading eMac several times.
But I have heard that these kind of kits aren't so good in slot loading laptops, because there is a chance of them getting stuck inside. I suggest contacting a local Apple certified service shop and seeing what they recommend.

We first need to determine what program is involved and the details of what you are doing?
You cannot burn your content to DVD disc (assumed DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc) with just Photoshop Elements and its associated Elements Organizer? So, if you are getting this error in your burn to disc, I am suspecting that you are not working with Photoshop Elements.
So, what program and version of it are you working with and on what computer operating system is it running?
The error that you present at burn has been seen before with no one description of what it means (that I have ever seen). Sometimes defragmentation of the computer hard drive and/or using another brand/type DVD disc resolves the issue. If you are in Premiere Elements burn dialog, does hitting the Rescan button a few times have any impact on the situation?

  • Macbook Pro shuts down when burning disk or watching video

I have a 1st generation macbook pro and I am running OSX 10.4.11. For some reason, every time i try to burn a disk or if I am watching high resolution video the computer will just crash and completely shut off. It only happens if I am doing one of these two things. Everything always seems to be fine when I turn it back on.
    Advice?

Booting up in "Safe Mode" essentially undertakes the same sort of repairs, CMorton.
Simply boot up holding down the shift key. (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564 and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455 for further details. Restart normally afterwards. A Safe Boot takes longer than usual - see http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1884)
It is very likely, as you say, that your limited drive free space coupled with very little memory is playing a part in your problems. By this stage the free space remaining is probably itself very badly fragmented, and the low RAM level will also mean that the computer has to "page out" to disc regularly when doing any intensive tasks.
You can upgrade the RAM in your computer to 2 Gigabytes for around $50 these days (see http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/Pro/DDR2/) and even a big drive can be had quite cheaply (see http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/ for example).
It sounds to me as if you need to think about upgrading the RAM and HD if you intend to keep on using it for such things.
    Cheers

  • IMac shuts down after burning DVDs.

Brand new aluminum iMac 20" with Tiger 10.4.11 installed. We've found that after burning a DVD(-R) the iMac just shuts off - bizarre.
Any ideas why this is happening? Fix?

That's interesting, so it's not a heat problem then. So do just a few of us have defective iMac burners, or does everyone? Friends of mine who use Mac laptops for processing similar files to me, have not had this problem of mid-burn shutdown, nor has a friend in UK on a pre-Intel iMac and 10.4.9. I tried several different brands of CDs and DVDs including TDK, Verbatim Data-life Plus (usually very reliable), and DataStream. All failed equally. So far the external LaCie burner is working well and is a work around for the problem. Why was it that only the aif files failed for me? You would think if there was a Mac problem then we would all have the same thing happening?

  • Sorry, serious error, shut down...

I've experienced this problem for many months (Premiere Elements 7).  I've tried the dozens of fixes found on the internet.
Clearly this is a huge problem for a vast number of users.
Apparently it's a serious bug in the application that Adobe needs to properly address.
I need a one-time permanent fix for this.

Unfortunately there is not one size fits all magic fix -- any more than there is a single specific problem that every person is experiencing. You'll kind of need to troubleshoot it to find out where things are failing.
What operating system are you using?
What processor do you have and how much RAM? When did you last run Disk Cleanup and the Disk Defragmenter? How much free clean defragmented space is on your C drive?
What model of camcorder is your video coming from and what format and resolution is it? What are your project settings, as listed under the Edit menu?
