Serious jitter in video

Tech Specs:
Powerbook G4 titanium - 1.5GB RAM
DVD Studio Pro 4.03
Compressor 2.01
Toast Titanium 7
external burner - Plextor PX-740A
Maxell DVD-R 8x DVDs
I am hoping someone can help me solve this problem.
I have an 80 minute feature that has been exported from AVID to mpeg2 with a 6.9 bit rate. Audio has been converted to AC3 with compressor. The disc comes in at 4.8 GBs.
I am building the DVD with Studio Pro 4.03. The menus are very basic, still photos for the buttons. The background was created in photoshop, it is a multi-layer .psd.
I build the disc with DVD Studio Pro but burn it with Toast to do the compression. When I watch the build from the VIDEO_TS folder on my mac, through DVD player it looks great. As soon as I burn it and put it in a standard DVD player I get this horrible jitter through out the whole movie.
What can I do to fix this problem?
Thank you for your help.

The output from the Avid is likely to be 720x486. If it's upper field dominant and you want it to work as lower field, you should be able to fix that when you do the crop to 720x480 for MPEG-2. Cropping 3 off the top and the bottom should leave you with a set of fields that will work correctly with lower field dominance.
If it turns out that the Avid output was 720x486 and lower field dominent, cropping 3 of the top and bottom could introduce a problem. Try cropping 2 off the top and 4 off the bottom.

  • Jitter in video streaming on Airplay

I bought Apple TV recently mainly for the airplay feature. I already have a few streaming boxes for the TV apps. I have a 802.11n cable modem + wireless router (Arris TG852G) type device. I followed the recommended settings on http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4215 but I still see a jitter on video playback on my TV when I set my Macbook Pro for airplay mirrong. It is quite annoying and I have to resort to connecting HDMI cable directly to my MacBook.
Yesterday I borrowed a linksys router that supports 802.11 ac and has dual channel support for (2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz). For testing purpose I tried 1080p netflix streaming with intense action scenes of Avengers and it worked flawlessly. I wonder if there is any tweaking I can to my Xfinity home gateway before spending another $100 to buy a router with 802.11 ac support.
I haven't done an intense test and I am not sure if video streaming issues may come back even with 802.11 ac router. I have about a couple of days to return Apple TV. Has someone tried Airplay on similar set up like mine (MBP paired with Apple TV on Xfinity home gateway with 802.11 n) and found issues ? Could it be a faulty Apple TV device?

    Hi Chris,
thanks for your tip. I didn't get around to trying it, as I have just solved the problem:
Unless I misunderstand how things are supposed to work, I think I also might have found a bug (or at a minimum an usability issue):
When I talked about having relaxed all the local storage settings in my original post, I meant that in the System Preferences / Flash Player / Storage pane I had set "Allow sites to save information on this computer". I also had done some experimention around the "Ask me" and "Settings by Site" options - all without success. I had navigated to that pane by right-clicking on "Global Settings" from the non-working video players.
However, just now I discovered the following: When I navigate to http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager03.htm l (the embedded Global Storage Settings Panel) I found that in fact "Allow third-party Flash content to store date on your computer" was disabled all along!
So effectively, the System Preferences Pane and the Global Settings Manager were not in sync / had conflicting settings and it looks like the Global Settings Manager took precedence. When I enabled local storage in the Global settings manager, things started working immediately.
This is extremely easily reproducable by the way: Just change some settings in the Global Settings Manager and then right click "Global Settings" within it and the Preference Pane coming up will be in conflict with the settings manager.
(Even if this is somehow by design, its quite confusing)
Hope this helps future readers with the same issue. Also, this is an issue in 11.3 Beta 2, so maybe your teams can still fix this for 11.3
    Thanks,
    Jens

  • Jitter in video playback

I am experiencing this jittering when playing video in fcp or when i export out the final quicktime file and play it in quicktime. But the curious thing is the jitter appears on my editing computer but not when i play the final file on my powerbook. Anyone have any thoughts?
A little more detail, i made a motion graphic file in Motion, it plays fine and jitter free there, but when i import it into my fcp sequence and render it the jitter starts. I am sure there is some kind of clue there.
By jitter, i mean a get this kind of flickering of a few horizontal lines or bars, either at the top or bottom int the lower 3rd or upper 3rd area.
    quad g5
    4 gb ram
    geforce 7800gt
    osX 10.4.10
    fcs 5.1.4
quicktime 7.2 (also happened under 7.1.6)

I experienced something similar editing HDV on my Mac Book Pro. Horozontal lines - noticable when there's any kind of motion. It almost looks like a bad tape. Fortunately, when I played in on my G5 Dual, it played fine. I actually brought my Mac Book to the Apple store and they told me that the MacBookPro, with 2GB Ram installed, is not enough to correctly process HDV footage. Unlike you, when I exported the same clips to QT Files, the horozontal bands were gone. This is apparently because FCP uses up a lot more RAM. What I don't understand is why the G5, which has the same amount of RAM wouldn't have the same problem.

  • Would this be a good IMac for serious audio and video production?

I am looking for a imac that is good for serious music recording in protools or cubase and serious HD video editing and effects with adobe premiere pro and after effects. I also need it to run good with the rest of the adobe products like photoshop, deamweaver, fireworks, flash, etc. I am a student. And this is what i have came up with. I have external HDs so 500gigs is not a problem with me.
    2.5GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
    8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
    500GB Serial ATA Drive
    AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512MB GDDR5
    Apple Magic Mouse
Apple Wireless Keyboard (English) & User's Guide
AppleCare Protection Plan for iMac - Auto-enroll
Do you think this would be good for what i do?

That would be a nice machine, espcially for the price (I am guessing you looking at the 21.5" iMac)

  • What Mac should i get for serious Audio recording, Video editing and Graphic's?

Hey im new to Macs and i want to upgrade to one. My question is what one?.. My current system is not powerfull enough to handle what i am doing and i want to upgrade. I plan on using the mac for serious music recording with protools or cubase, video editing and effects with adobe premiere pro and after effects and graphics and web type stuff the rest of the adobe collection.. ex photoshop, dreamweavor, flash, illistrator, etc. So pretty much i need it to handle the adobe cs5.5 master collection and a music recording daw without bogging down. I do serious music recording and video editing and effects that need power behind it and runs smoothly. Any tips, tricks, advise, etc would be greatly appreachated!. Btw im a college student and plan on getting the discount prices in the adobe collection and hopefully the mac and would like to get the best quality computer for the best price!
    Thanks!

Buying refurbs from Apple is a great idea - except for my current iMac, all my Macs have been refurbished. However, I would only get a factory refurb from Apple - they come with the same warranty as new units and you can buy Applecare to extend that to a total of 3 years. And, as far as I know, the Apple online store is the only place where you can get factory refurbs.

  • Serious Problems with Video

I'm having trouble with the video following a SMPTE offset.
In Syncro page, I've enable Separate SMPTE View Offset like I always did in 7, and set it for 01:00:00:00. Then I set the video prefs to also start at 01:00:00:00.
But the video is not following the offset and always starts at bar 1.
The only workaround I've found is to drag the video in the global tracks video bar to my new start point, bar 21.
Can someone please confirm this issue for me. Also when inputing the offset, you used to be able to use "." to tab across, but now you have to use tab. No big deal, but the tab function doesn't seem to want to let you just type in a zero, so now I'm having to highlight hours, enter 1, then tab to min and highlight, enter 0, tab, highlight....etc.
I used to just hit 1.0.0.0 and be done with it.
I use this a hundred times a day scoring to pic.
Is this the new way? Seems like it might be a bug.
    Also on video
When cycle is on, the video loops based on the length of the movie and not the selected cycle range.
This would be okay, except it's skipping most of the audio that occurs at the the beginning. I do have the smooth cycle algorithm on in the prefs and it's set to 1/96. This is audio and midi that is played near the front, but not on the very first frame, so you should be able to hear it.....you should be able to hear it even if it was on the first frame.
It's impossible to watch a :05 video several times because it's cutting out so much audio!

    They look good enough.
    Time for a test.

  • Tactic3D Alpha Odd popping on Youtube videos

Ever since I've had the Tactic3D alpha (Two actually.) I've had this serious problem, youtube videos make loud popping noises when I use the USB connector. It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't eventually degrade into loud buzzing sounds that are identical every time. I can get around this problem by using the sound-card input, however this restricts me from using the control panel and accessing the full features of the device. (Leaving me with a headset that is significantly quieter, has less bass, a Mic that seems to not be picked up by most things as well as lower sound quality in general.)
This is frustrating, as it seems to come and go; while most of the time I'll have the popping sounds, randomly they'll just plain stop for a period of time, almost as if to lure me into a false sense of security.
My audio drivers are all up to date. I have tried multiple different USB ports etc etc.

The app is usually the best way to access YouTube.
You can try some of the 'standard' troubleshooting for Safari :
Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History)
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Why is processing/transcoding taking so long for youtube video

I'm using a MacBook Pro 17" made in late 2011. Runing software OS x Lion 10.7.3 and 2.4 GHz Ubtel Core i7 with 8 GB 1333MHz DDR3. I have a AMS Radeon HD 6770m 1024 MB. It is taking so long to process/transcode a movie. Any suggestions? Thanks

You are telling me...I videoed the event, along with editting...spent hours just to get it ready for processing...paying people to watch my video may be considered some form of punishemnt in some location.
More on the serious side, the video deals with state and local govenment policy and school budgets. Hot topic these days. Final decision could mean many jobs could be saved or eliminated. Can't compete with "Gone with the Wind", but for those involved, it could make the diference on how one provides for ones' family. It the sign of the times we are living in now.
Update: was not able to upload to any of my streaming sites, so placed it on a local server for local access.
Now working on the next video which is ONLY 30 minutes long...been rendering for 1:55':26"---over half way done...feels like I'm on vacation!

  • Cruddy iChat Video/Audio feed

Hi, on my iMac, iChat is having serious problems with video chat, screen sharing, and audio chat. First; video chat. On the Video Chat, the screen I see that's supposed to be the other person is very choppy. I often see them staying in the same exact position and then later part of their body moves and their hand looks like it's chopped off and floating (mind you, none of this is in great detail... everything looks kinda like that censer you see on peoples faces in crime scenes and stuff only it's not even that high quality.) *See Audio Chat for problems with audio in Video Chat*
Screen Sharing: Same exact problem with Video Chat.
Audio Chat: The audio chat seems to work well and clear, although every two seconds, their sentence gets cut out a little bit. Again, the only word to describe this is: Choppy. It sounds kind of like this:
So, the other... was walking home... and I ran... pole and hurt... so now I'm... the hospital... concussion and I... seven stitches... of my head...
*Another note about the audio, I downloaded Skype for before I ever used iChat, and I had the same exact same problem with the audio... It's almost like it's not the program but my computer. If there's any information I can give you please be specific, and I will do my best to answer as clearly as possible. Unfortunately, even though I try to be, I've not got a whole lot of experience on how computers work (even though I try to learn, some of it is inconsistent.)*

  • Video problems with games

    hello,
i'm having problems playing serious sam and return to castle wolfenstein.
i'm using k7n420, onboard video, 1.13 drivers, 17 inch princeton monitor, windows setting is at 1024 x 768, 32 bit.
i first experinced this on serious sam, game video setting is at 800x600, color depth is windows default so i assume 32 bit.  when playing at this resolution, the screen wont fit my monitor, its stretched, a little bent, changed to 1024x768 and 640 x 480, and its okay, but 640x480 is too low, and 1024x768 is just too slow for me, slows down my system.  but it wasnt like this before, so i uninstalled the game then reinstalled it, then its okay, after a few days, it went back.
now, wolfenstein also acts like that...
    thanks,
    edison

Ive got an option for you. Try changing the refresh rate for the monitor at 800*600. Some monitors are kinda funky and will actually alter the screen appearance with varying refresh rates.

  • Flash version 11 causing lagging in videos when mouse moves

Hi, new to this forum.. I was wondering if anybody else is experiencing serious frame-dropping & video lagging on YT videos when moving the mouse/touchpad across the video page?
Using Vista 32-bit on a 232 gig dual core system.. laptop is in great shape, responsive,Ccleaned regularly & has 50% free space
I've tried most everything my amateur geek head could think of to repair this but no joy . Maybe I've missed a thread or something obvious that some of you might think of.
Please help !! and Thank you all in advance :-/

Well, first thing I'd try is to update to our latest 11.5 release to see if that helps.  I'd also recommend updating your touchpad drivers, as it sounds like there's a conflict there.  If it doesn't help, the next thing I'd try is reverting back to 10.3.
How do I revert to a previous version of Flash Player?

  • Getting 15" MBP to do some HD video editing - Canon 5D mkii.  Premier Elements or Final Cut?

With a new 15" MacBook Pro, what would be the suggestion for video editing software - will be doing HD with the Canon 5D mkii.  I am doing ostly some family stuff and a few things for work - training pieces, nothing longer than about 15 minutes in time.  I don't need the Pro stuff as a lot of it will go unused due to lack of skill and need.  I have iMovie 8 and I need more than that.  Final Cut Express is discontinued, so I am looking at Adobe Premier Elements 10 as a possibility.  It is not a matter of money, but I want like a middle of the road software, with a good laptop (need the portability). Also, shoudl I ge the top of the line upgraded 15" MBP or spring for the Retina display with the SSD option???

I have both Adobe's Premier Pro CS6 and Final Cut Pro X installed on both my Mac Pro 8-core and a new Macbook Pro with Retina Display (2.7 GHz, 768 GB flash storage, and 16 GB of RAM).  I am not a professional editor, but I am serious about editing video as a hobby.  On both my Mac Pro and on my MBPR, Final Cut Pro X is very very stable, and performs exceptionally well.  Since it's introduction about 18 months ago Apple has offered a number of free updates to FCP X which have really improved its functionality and stability.  FCP X has a unique trackless paradigm for video editing (the magnietic timeline) which I really like and find helpful in speeding up the editing workflow.  However, FCP X (like all video editing programs) does have a learning curve and I recommend that you purchase  and watch the training tutorials from Ripple Training or from other good sources such as lynda.com.  It can be a frustrating and unprofitable experience to simply jump into FCP X and try to begin editing your Canon 5D Mark II footage without first taking the time to learn the fundamentals of the program.
These comments are also true for Adobe's Premier Elements (a simpler version of Adobe's Premier Pro editing package).   I have not yet used Premiere Pro CS6 to any significant extent on my MBPR but I have edited several projects (indcluding ones using 5D Mark II footage) on my Mac Pro using PP CS5 and CS5.5.  I have never had a problem with the stability of the program.  However, a number of Mac users are reporting problems using PP CS6 on the Adobe PP Forum.
As for advice on whether to purchase the top of the line upgrade 15 in. MBP or the MBPR, I would say that is a matter of personal choice. The high resolution display of the MBPR makes for a great editing experience since you can see a full 1080p video in FCP X's output window without any scaling at all.   The flash storage of the MBPR means that you will be able to play numerous streams of 1080p video simultaneously without the need for purchasing external Raid arrays.  I purchased my MBPR for video editing purposes and I certianly have no regrets about the choice.
One final comment.  Most of the time my MBPR runs quietly and reasonably cool (CPU temps of 45-75 C.).  However, when you render a movie in FCP X, be prepared to hear the fan speeds go to their maximum speed (which is dfinitely audible but not unpleasant)  and for the cpu temperature to rise as high as 100 C. or slightly higher.  I have never had the MBPR do a thermal shutdown while rendering video, but it does get hot, and a laptop cooler support for the MBPR is a necessity when using it for high intensity cpu tasks like video editing.

  • Adobe After Effects CS3 horrible export quality

I made an intro for my Youtube channel using Adobe After Effects CS3, in the preview and whilst I was rendering the video quality was remarkable, no flaw in it. But after it rendered and I exported it as a .flv file the quality was horrible and grainy. Since I'm starting a serious channel my videos have to be high quality, including the intro. Is there any way to make it better quality, perhaps a free program that converts it into a better quality extension, or anything. I appreciate any feedback since I really need this intro in high quality.
Here's the video link as you can see it's grainy as hell, even when put at 720p(HD):
As I mentioned before in the preview and whilst rendering the quality was one of the best I've ever seen, no grain or anything, it was flawless, but when I exported, the quality turned to s***. Please help.

Well, straight to the point: Read YouTube's requirements! FLV? They don't even recomemnd it themselves and in the last 3 years nobody serious has used it. There are enough free H.264 encoders based on ffmpeg. Download one and render an uncompressed movie from AE to be used for final output.

  • Imac g5 to lcd tv

I have a imac G5 17" flat panel and a samsung lcd 26" tv with 1xhdmi, 1xscart, 1x s-video and rca audio connections, what i dont understand is how to connect the two. Iv'e heard that s-video sacrifies on quality but is the chaepest option. Please help.

    Scart :
is likely for Satelite tv boxes + High end video machines but is old tech and can not connect to your Imac without you spending some money buying a device to connect it to and then to your Samsung.
    HDMI:
is only recently released and if you do not have the latest ATI graphics card then likely not worth the use.
    S-video / RCA :
S-video is better than RCA but this mostly depends on your other devices that connects to your Samsung.
S-video is the improved RCA and depending on your cables / quality of your cables it will come close to HDMI.
I just use the S-video cable that comes with my Pbook.
You should likely have in the box that shipped with your Imac have a "something to rca" or "something to S-video" cable that fits in the small graphics out connecter on your Imac or you can get one for $20-30 online.
PS: get some Monster Cables or 99%+ silver/gold/oxygen free or better cables if you are serious about sound + video quality but you have to have very good eye's and extremely good ears to make it worth your while.
    Hope this helps.

  • I am considering buying a Macbook pro 15 inch without retina display: 2.3 ghz model vs 2.6 ghz model

I am planning to use this computer for VIDEO EDITING (final cut pro), and MUSIC MAKING (logic pro). Even though i only listed logic pro and final cut pro, i plan on having multiple softwares. I have been editing and making music for a while so this wouldnt be "messing around" with software. i am serious about both video editing and music making and use them both as occupations around the town i live in. I've been hearing that the macbook 15 inch 2.6ghz is more powerful than the 2.3ghz.
THE QUESTION: is spending the extra money for the 2.6ghz model worth it for using my computer for video editing, music making, and some large programs on my computer as well. Also: in my case would a quad core be more useful than dual core?

Not immediately, for the average user. In about 5 years, when software needs more processor horsepower its nice to have that extra .3Ghz. It means the useful lifespan of your computer might be extended an extra year, to extend past trends into the future. Although predicting software trends is probably unwise.
You also get a better resale value out of a faster processor. If you planon doing processor intensive work like video editing then you should get the fast processor in any case. Ald lastly, if you have the extra money you should do it just on principle.
