Serious lack of stability

Okay so I have a custom built desktop (hardware specs below), running arch 64 for a friend of mine (will try and get him on the forums)..
Im not sure if it can go through an entire day without freezing. There seem to be some serious stability issues with this thing and I cant figure out where I have gone wrong with the build! Literally, the graphics seem to freeze with either a monotone colour screen (ramdom colour and at random intervals) or a 'no signal'. Its actually worse than win95! ;D
Any ideas on what's causing the problem or on how to debug this thing? It kills sshd everytime it freezes to I cant remote log in

Right, so we tried using nvidia. Consistant crashing every time (apparantly resising fullscreen to normal a flash vid really aggrevates). Here are the two log extracts.

Could you tell me why you can't select a save for web function as in jpeg, gif or png? If you want this app to be taken seriously using the photoshop and adobe name then it needs the ability to save different file formats used. People want the ability and functionality of photoshop on iPad, which is what this app is trying to do. But it's lacking the main features people expect when creating artwork. At £6.99 it's the usual over inflated adobe pricing. But people are willing to pay that as long as they get the features they've come to expect from the photoshop name. Are these coming in future updates...?
Or is it just a shiny app that can only create jpegs?

Serious lack of Sci Fi Content in On Demand!

Just wondering why the serious drop in content in the Sci Fi category in On Demand? There was previously a good selection here - X Files, Buffy, Fringe, Torchwood and more. It's been gradually reducing and now there are about 6 choices in there whereas other categories boast 50-60 listings??
From another listing I know there is more Buffy coming but surely there is a lot more you could add here. I'm sure people will add suggestions after me but here are some starters:

Very serious lack of VPN in apple

The problem is that I cannot connect to the specific Microsoft VPNs. The reason of that is that Mac OS X does not support "mppe stateful encryption" mode in pppd. Let we see the connection log:
Refusing MPPE stateful mode offered by peer
MPPE required but peer negotiation failed
This makes my apple just unuseful, because all my work requires making such VPN. I was searching the Internet and I discover that plenty of mac users have this same problem and there is no solution to establish this mppe stateful mode VPN on Mac.
What is really strange, if you would see pppd manual page in Terminal, you will see that there is option mppe stateful connection that you can turn on, but I suspect that this manual was copied from BSD, and this feature is just unimplemented in Mac OS X system, because pppd shows no reaction to this option when switched on.
What should I do now? What do you recomend? Is there any possibility that this feature will be fastly added to system with system update?
Please don't tell me I bought wrong computer for networking! Apple was always proud of it's simplicity of working over the Internet.

Serious lack of information in iTMS purchases

The coverfront is there, the music itself is there, obvious, the name of the band or the artist is there, all about date, bits, frequenzy etc. is there ...
But why can't I get the simple information, who is the band members and who is the session musicians on this recording? This used to be standard on even the covers of my grandad's old 33" records, so why can't I get these infos?
I regard this as a core reason NOT to buy online music.
What do YOU think about this?

Interesting point. From my view I buy music because it is something I like to listen. I do like being able to purchase only the tunes that I like and not an entire CD.
I imagine that all that info you do want is available on the CD insert. You would probably find that info online at at a bands website. If it is that important then stick with buying the CD at a brick and mortar outlet.

How does one submit a complaint to Apple UK about a serious lack of customer support?

HI,
The problem I'm having is finding an addess (e-mail, postal or phone) to complain to Apple about the abysmal customer experience I've had with them. I've been a loyal customer to Apple; having spent in excess of £10,000 over the past 10 years on content from their overpriced iTunes Store (that doesn't include the money I've spent on hardware purchases) and now their customer service is shocking!
I've purchased seasons 1-10 of the TV series Friends and seasons 1-15 of TV series ER (in HD). I have receipts for all of these, and I've purchased iTunes Match. Since Apple decided to offer iTunes in the cloud, a most peculiar thing has happened. Friends seasons 1-10 all appear, except season 5. Likewise ER seasons1-15 all appear, except seasons 2-5. Now in my purchased section of the iTunes store, the same problem exists.
OK? So its been over 12 months, I've submtted FOUR, thats 4, different attempts to get this problem with my iTunes store account resolved. They don't have a phone number you can call, so you can't ensure that the person understands what you mean. I have been completely ignored twice, given another download twice and still have no resolution to the problem I reported. What has realy annoyed me is the fact that because the guy got bored of dealing with me or whatever other reason, I was told to contact AppleCare, which I did - and granted the guy there was really good, but unable to deal with the issue as its an iTunes Store problem, not an Apple TV problem - so I'm left chasing my own tail.
All I want is this problem resolved and then I'm going to go with someone else, because this is just rediculous. So does anyone know of a way to complain to Apple UK?

Call Apple support, ask to speak with someone in Customer Relations, and explain the situation to the CR representative. Perhaps they can help.

Customer service is seriously lacking

I reported the fact that I have no ability to receive calls on a Tuesday. They are disconnected or a message comes on that says all circuits are busy. I have a medical emergency on the line. I was promised a technician to come out in two days. They bumped me to Friday. I took off work on Friday, was bumped to Saturday (only I found this out after calling at 4pm to check on the status). Was bumped to Sunday at 515pm on Saturday. On Sunday was told that I was number 5 on the list and that they would be there. At 6pm no technician and was told that I was bumped to Monday between the hours of 8am and 830pm. I can't even get anyone on the phone tree (Verizon's lovely version of customer support) and so I contacted my lawyer who intends to look into why a land line with a medical emergency is bumped four times. I finally reached someone who sarcastically told me that due to the storm ( Hurricane Irene!!) there was a high volume of calls and tech support was very busy. You have got to be kidding me Verizon!! Comcast -- you're looking mighty good to me now!

Lack of support & answers for Twist 7705... any he...

There is a serious lack of support for Twist 7705 users. I'm trying to do a simple transfer of information (some music and pictures) from my computer to my phone and have had terrible time!
The memory card "says" it formats, yet when I check the card (using a universal card reader) there are no folders (gallery folders) as should be created when formatted
There are no USB cables for this phone, not even on the Nokia website. And buying a cable from another company is useless because there are no drivers to allow it's use. I purchased a micro usb cable and wasted my money.
When searching this site, for drivers, it says to use PC SUITE, then asks you to choose your phone, my model isn't suported on the software.
This company is seriously lacking in the technical department. You shouldn't release a phone, advertise it's abilities, knowing full well you haven't provided the tools to use the phone to it's fullest.
I've been trying to do this since November 1st when I bought the phone. Absolutely ridiculous and frustrating.

Actually figured it out on my own..
Connect USB cable to USB port on PC, connect other end into phone
Go to Menu>Settings&Tools>Tools>USB Mass Storage, then click OK
Your PC will install it's own USB Mass Storage Device driver, wait a min or two and a new drive letter will be visible in your "My Computer" window
My drive letter was G:\ and it said "Removable Disk (G: )"
Double click on the new "Removable Disk" icon and right click inside the window and select New>Folder
Name this folder "my_music" (lower case, and include the underscore ( _ )
Drag and drop all your music files into this folder
Next, push "Cancel" on the Nokia and go to Menu>Media Center>Music & Tones>My Music
press the right softkey for "Options" and select 1. Scan memory card for new music
Hit OK and now your music will be visible and playable from the phone!
I haven't messed with downloading pictures to the phone, but I would assume that creating a "my_pictures" folder might work. Just a guess
Nokia needs to include a more helpful manual with this product if they aren't offering online support or FAQ's for this model

How to install only selected version of packages for stability ?

i want a stable distro. but i also dont want leave arch and its aur. so i want to install only stable version for all packages. the version number can be know from http://ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackware/ … CKAGES.TXT or http://packages.debian.org/stable/allpa … mat=txt.gz or own expieriance. so it would make my arch more stable.
right now i can think of one way to achive this, by create another repositery and disabling all others including core extra community etc.
so which one is more feasible different repositery or different, stable distro (may be slack).

How do you measure that stability?
in infinitely stable system, binary will only do what they are supposed to do. thats what is desirable. one way to find out the stability is testing for a period of time. and i heard slackware and debian stable are most tested distro so thats why i chose their packages.txt.
i am ignoring their interference with upstream packages and assuming it has zero effect on stability. however feel free to shatter my assumption.
Arch is a rolling release; it is predicated on moving with upstream.
it does not matter the only requirement is that the required version of the pacages should exist somewhere. with the proposed changes it would not be rolling anymore, at least apparantly.
Depends how much work you want to put into it. I expect that in turn depends on the issues you believe have been caused by arch's alleged lack of stability, and you haven't said anything about them.
Given your apparent determination to stay with Arch, it's odd that you included the option to change distro in your question, but it's the option I would recommend to you. If you decide to persist with Arch, here's a previous attempt to inspire you.
the point is i dont have to do much work. most of the work is testing, which is already done by big distros like slack, debian. i am just using their knowledge of most stable packages and applying that in arch. the only work i have to do is to automate the whole process of changing the database file.
yes i am facing issue with my current arch, xfce-panel is crashing. there is fixed bitmap in my top left corner etc. but i dont want to spend my time debugging these problems. but i do want them dissappeared, hopefully the proposed change would do that.
i think i am moving to slackware but without leaving arch. the only difference between them that matters is slackware is well tested distro and i think i am bringing that quality in my arch.
the difference between archserver and arch is archserver provides more stability but not more than slackware. so i think i am not intrested in archserver.

Lack of Keyframing Support in FC Express HD

For over 6years I have been a long time user of FCP2.0 on a G4,…
And in the last few weeks, a newcomer to FC Express HD on my new iMacG5/iSight. (I couldn’t afford the upgrade price to move to the FC Studio package.)
Am I missing something, or is FCE seriously lacking Keyframing support?
The manual supplied with the software package and imbedded Help Section is sparse on this topic. These onling forums seem to be the best place for getting "How To" advice.
I really loved the flexibility and control of the keyframe timeline that was alongside all the Motion parameters available in the Viewer pane of FCP2.0
Tell me I’m stupid and that what I want to see is available, but I haven’t found the right view or mouse click or menu or what!…..
I simply want to provide dynamic changes WITHIN a clip to such Motion parameters as Opacity. It seems as though this parameter can only be set for the total duration of the clip.
I have figured out how to do keyframing in controlling audio tracks, and dynamically moving “Scale” and “Position” within the duration of the clip. But some of the other Motion effects (Opacity, Blur,...) seem locked and do not allow multiple keyframes within the clip.

With a lot of “playing around” and help from a friend in a local Apple Users Group, here are the details that we have come up with to dynamically control Opacity within a video clip:
Once the video clip is in the Timeline, you turn on Clip Overlays by clicking the squiggly line button in the lower left hand corner of the Timeline window.
When the 'Clip Overlays' mode is turned on, you will see a black horizontal line appear at the top of all video clips (and red lines in audio clips for that matter). That is the opacity control line at its default 100% setting.
Then on the Tool palette, you select the Pen tool; it looks like a
calligraphy pen and is the left option in that tool palette. When you position the tool on the video clip, specifically on the Opacity line, it converts to a pen point. Click on the opacity line with the pen tool and it applies an Opacity control point. Clicking on the Opacity line at multiple points creates finer control of the Opacity function. The cursor turns into crosshairs when over the point. Dragging the cross hair down or up, changes the opacity, much the same way one controls amplitude within the audio tracks.
Tom, this is the detail that I have not been able to find in the User’s Manual that came in the FCE box, nor in the Help Section of the software. I did learn from the Help Section (page 228 of my version of FCE HD) that the Motion Parameters, “Drop Shadow” and “Motion Blur”, are the only ones that cannot be controlled by keyframes. That’s too bad, because Blurring within a clip can have a neat effect; I don’t need to try to figure that one out quite yet.
Because of forums like this one, and people like yourself willing to help each other, the rest of us can achieve some satisfaction and performance improvements with this software.

SERIOUS ISSUES WITH MAC - OS 7 - iTunes Syncing

The intent of this post is to inform RIM and all prospective buyers that there is serious lack of functionality with desktop software for mac with the new OS 7 devices. If you are an iTunes user, you will be tearing your hair out trying to get this to sync correctly. Some advice- go buy an iPod.
I try and sync my music collection, and it crashes EVERY time. Very pathetic and frustrating.
Do you guys test this **bleep** software before you release it?

No there is several different versions of BlackBerry 7, to find the version type in myver in a message and hit the space bar.
Also what was that version of BlackBerry Desktop Software?
I just want to look into this further, since I have no problems syncing with iTunes.

I2C Stability - Production Quality Hardware

Hello NI Land,
Fairly fresh to these forums so take my ignorance in stride. I have a production related issue going on with an I2C bus and more specifically the hardware. We have a proprietary control that our company designed and we program some settings using an I2C bus that we have integrated on the product. Right now we are using a totalphase I2C tool to communicate from the PC and our product. We have kept all of the USB cables and junctions very short so the loss is minimized. I believe our code is very solid and communicating the way it should, but we are constantly having issues where it will not program and we reset the totalphase device and it begins to work again. I was wondering if anyone out there has any recommendations on solid hardware to use. The totalphase product was fine for development but I believe it lacks the stability needed for a production environment.

I've used this card from NI at a previous employer and had no issues. It is rather pricey for I2C but definitely stable.

Color 1.5 and Matrox MXO2 Mini

Hey all. Just got the MXO2 Mini from Matrox which is really amazing. I use Apple, Adobe and Avid products so when Avid announced that this would be the device they will be compatible with I jumped on getting one. It works amazingly well in every product I've tested, Premiere, FCP, Compressor (for h.264 Max encodes), After Effects and so on. But I get into Apple Color and an odd thing happens, it plays the video I bring in in the little preview window on my second monitor but it old shows me a still of the frame I park on on my preview monitor. The codec is obviously working to an extent since the options for preview showed up in Color and that I saw picture when I selected it. But is the preview monitor only showing a still frame right or normal? Anyways thanks for any insight.

I disagree with nothing you've said. I already know Davinci having piloted a few sessions (though it's not my primary work by far) and I took to it much quicker than I took to Color. Though I have no issues with the learning curve on Color either. I think they are both great with equally good and bad support for 3rd party hardware. But I do think that Davinci is a more worth while product to use if you want to compete in the color correction profession.
The thing that bothers me about Apple's Final Cut Studio in the past 2 versions is that both stability and innovation seems to have stopped. Dvd Studio Pro has gotten no love for what 4 versions now? They push Quicktime as the core video technology behind all of their apps like FCP and Color yet when they've had ample time to modify Color's code to reflect their software compatibility needs things like the hardware issue I'm having pop up ONLY in Color. Just seems like Apple just wants to buy good apps, sell them in a bundle as inexpensive as they can to sell systems but they've lost their competitive edge with comparable NLE packages like Adobe's Production Suite CS5 or Avid MC. Not to mention they've done nothing to compete in the pro space with the advancements Avid makes every version. Not including the features coming in MC5, MC4s AMA already makes it faster to get editing than FCP was ever able to do. Plus, much like our Color VS Davnici conversation, if you learn Avid you learn software EVERY post house in the world has and uses. The workflows are standards. FCP doesn't have great workflow infrastructure and Apple doesn't seem interested in fixing that.
Why did I just go on that rant? Well I guess it's because I have to use these tools daily and though I see so much potential in Apple Color alone, I feel issues like the one I'm having right now show a serious lack in Apple's interest in keeping their software suite competitive and stable.

Matrox MXO2 Mini and COLOR?

Anybody have any experience using the Matrox MXO2 Mini breakout box to monitor color grading
The Matrox MXO2 Mini will be used with a 40" Sony LCD HDTV. My work mostly is shown though a projector to big screens, and for the web. I work in ProRes 422 (HQ) and (standard).
Just like to know if people are happy with it

I disagree with nothing you've said. I already know Davinci having piloted a few sessions (though it's not my primary work by far) and I took to it much quicker than I took to Color. Though I have no issues with the learning curve on Color either. I think they are both great with equally good and bad support for 3rd party hardware. But I do think that Davinci is a more worth while product to use if you want to compete in the color correction profession.
The thing that bothers me about Apple's Final Cut Studio in the past 2 versions is that both stability and innovation seems to have stopped. Dvd Studio Pro has gotten no love for what 4 versions now? They push Quicktime as the core video technology behind all of their apps like FCP and Color yet when they've had ample time to modify Color's code to reflect their software compatibility needs things like the hardware issue I'm having pop up ONLY in Color. Just seems like Apple just wants to buy good apps, sell them in a bundle as inexpensive as they can to sell systems but they've lost their competitive edge with comparable NLE packages like Adobe's Production Suite CS5 or Avid MC. Not to mention they've done nothing to compete in the pro space with the advancements Avid makes every version. Not including the features coming in MC5, MC4s AMA already makes it faster to get editing than FCP was ever able to do. Plus, much like our Color VS Davnici conversation, if you learn Avid you learn software EVERY post house in the world has and uses. The workflows are standards. FCP doesn't have great workflow infrastructure and Apple doesn't seem interested in fixing that.
Why did I just go on that rant? Well I guess it's because I have to use these tools daily and though I see so much potential in Apple Color alone, I feel issues like the one I'm having right now show a serious lack in Apple's interest in keeping their software suite competitive and stable.
