Serious M-Audio Profire 610 sync and dropout problem

After an, over a month, waiting for a solution to the problem from m-audio, I have to post the problem to the community:
I m using an early 2009 8-core MAC PRO with M-Audio Profire 610, using it for video editing with Final Cut Pro (and sound design with Pro Tools).
The problem is that since I've  updated the machine to 10.6.7,  I m experiencing VIDEO dropouts in Final Cut, the very first playback seconds of EVERY video track (on every codec) that I try to preview and at any point of it.
Also, occasionally, the audio-video sync is lost and I have to pause-play in order to gain the sync back on..
When I switch the audio output to Built in audio or Display audio, the dropout and sync problem disappears. When I switch back to Profire 610 the dropout starts again.
The video and audio settings and the tracks encoding are the same for at least 2 years now, since I m working ALLWAYS with my P2 panasonic DCVPROHD camera, with which I have shot and edit in my MAC PRO multiple videos, including a feature film..
I have tested the problem on two Macbook pros (early 2007) that I use for the shootings and the problem is there also !(when I plug the Profire 610)
The last think that I 've tried on my main unit, was:
-do a zero data format to my vertex 2 ssd boot drive,
-do a clean install of Snow Leopard (10.6.0)
-restore the system from a time machine backup (the os still remains 10.6.0)
-run 10.6.6 combo update
-uninstall the profire driver
-repair permissions
-install the profire driver (for 32 bit 10.6.6)
-repair permissions.
The problem's still here.
I m stuck with my projects here… Is there a solution out there?
Thank you very much for the attention

So, to be clear, it happens when the FirePro 610 in connected, and does not happen when it's diconnected?
That is obviously directly related to the FirePRo 610 having some hardware latency issues on an OS level.  That's up to M-Audio to fix.  There was never anything wrong with your Mac, there's something wrong with the M-Audio unit, obviously.
Do you have a FW hard drive plugged in?  If so, will it work correctly without any other FW devices connected?
It could be defective.

I'm just about to get the above: Logic Studio, MacBook Pro, M-Audio ProFire 610 and the M-Audio Aziom 61, and want to know if any of the above (Logic Studio and MacBook Pro excluded) are a big mistake. I've been using an Aluminium Powerbook 17" 1.33MHz, and M-Audio MobilePre USB, and an Edirol controller, with guitar rig (and Controller), and Logic Express 7.
I need a set-up that will work as well in the studio, as it does on stage. We tend to plug everything in to the powerbook at the moment, and use Reason to power the synths, guitar rig for the guitars and bass, and logic express plugins for vocals etc.
Anyone have any experience with any of the above?
    Cheers,
    Adam

    Hi Zuelito,
Please read my first paragraph again:
"I gotta RESPECTFULLY take issue with every point you bring up about M-Audio stuff, Zuelito..."
I'm not sure how you can be "slightly put off by the tenor" of my post given everything I said, with the one possible exception being my line about MOTU making crappy hardware - and that was based on personal experience. And while we're talking about the opinions of others, feel free to peruse the Unicornation board - it's full of MOTU users talking about firewire port failures and other hardware issues - so it appears neither of us is alone in our experiences
Seriously, if I was in some way brash or offensive in the way my post came off, I publicly and sincerely apologize. I really try to think about what I say (and how I say it) when posting on the 'net, for this very reason. I thought I simply stated my experience in an informative manner; again, please re-read my post - I hope it comes across as intended.
For what it's worth, I will say (even more clearly) that I've always loved MOTU products in terms of feature set; maybe that's why I've owned almost every product they've ever made! However, in my environment, I simply can't risk hardware failures, and their stuff has let me down too many times to keep rolling the dice. I will also divulge that one of their top tech support guys has acknowledged the firewire port problem. That's a shame, because they do make great stuff, conceptually. I really wish I could take a chance on that new 896mk3, but it ain't gonna happen for me; 6 dead firewire ports is enough of a failure rate for me to give up on them. To be fair, this probably isn't an issue for fixed installations, but I have to make these connections daily while on tour.
Also, I did NOT categorically state that "M-Audio stuff is better than MOTU." Again, if you re-read my post, it should be obvious that all I'm saying is I have a newfound respect for M-Audio, as of the new ProFire series. I also said in my first paragraph that I shared your opinion of M-Audio for a long time!
If this were all about M-Audio's 410 vs. MOTU's Ultralite (or other competition), we probably wouldn't even be having this discussion as I would have agreed with you - but the original poster specifically asked about the newer 610 with Logic, which is what I'm using on one of my rigs. I simply offered my personal experience.
As for drivers, I've not had any problems with M-Audio or their level of support. Just the opposite - they really seem to be on the ball and are way more communicative than other mfrs. I don't know of any other mfr. that supports each OS subrelease in detail like they do, and their development speed seems as fast (if not faster) than anyone else.
Finally, until now I've only owned a few M-Audio pieces (410, 1814), but I can state that they've been flawless. Their audio quality was not 'high end' by any stretch, but I only used them for utility purposes (writing rigs on the road, etc.). Like I said, my main studio stuff has been RME or Apogee for years, and that's the quality level I'm used to - which is why the 610 really surprised me. I also have several friends who do a LOT of touring, many of which rely on M-Audio hardware (mostly 410s). One guy's unit doesn't even have any paint left on it from road abuse - but it still works like a champ after 4 years.
So anyway, this is all just my experience. Hope it doesn't come across as anything but that
    Peace,
    Jim

  • M-audio profire 610

    hi,
I'm trying to run an m-audio profire 610 on logic express 8; the program and my computer detects it, but for some reason i cannot monitor or record anything. does anyone have any suggestions as to what i should do?
    Thanks,
    -Mark

I'm not sure which model of MacBook Air you have, though I think MacBook air doesn't have FireWire port which is required to connect with Profire 610.

  • IMac OSX 10.9.1 incompatible with M-Audio ProFire 610

I have no more connection with my M-Audio ProFire 610. My iMac OSX 10.9.1 doesn't see the device! There does not seem to be an updated driver for M-audio ProFire 610 in Mavericks. I need to record. Help!

I've found a workaround for M-audio's *disgustingly* lazy support: either
    - use an outboard Thunderbolt dock like the one Belkin makes (the one I'm currently using) and connect the Profire to the 800 port on the back of the dock
    - use a thunderbolt to fw800 adapter (which makes using an external display impossible of course).
The problem is that Mavericks addresses FW ports differently from Mountain Lion, however any ports connected through TB works just fine. I have a hunch the same principle applies to the FW port on the back of Apple's TB displays.
However, I'm not able to include it in an Aggregate device. I know Apple is phasing out FW ports but that's no reason for M-Audio to shaft their older customers!

  • Audio out of sync and missing

I have several clips from my Panasonic LX-5 (720P). I created a new project (CS 5.5) and imported the clips. When I play the file directly from Windows Explorer, all is well. However, in the timeline, the audio is way ahead of the video and then part way through a clip, the audio disappears altogether. Also, the line at the top of the sequence is yellow (above transitions, it is green). I thought maybe the final exported file would be fine, but it had the audio out of sync and missing in the same spots, too.
Any ideas what's going on here?
    Thanks,
    Jay

  • Syncing and Charging Problem with 1st gen iPod nano

I purchased a 1st generation iPod nano via eBay about 3 months ago and have developed an interesting syncing and charging problem.  When I plug the nano to my iMac, frequently neither the computer nor iTunes will recognize it.  I have done "the five R's" with occasional success.  I've tried jiggling the cable in the computer port and sometimes it works in getting iTunes to recognize the nano, sometimes it doesn't.  Even when I am able to get iTunes to recognize the nano, I have frequently found that the nano hasn't charged up at all.  In fact, a couple of times I found it almost totally drained of power after having been connected to my computer.  Yes, I have the most recent version of iTunes installed on my iMac and my iMac, by the way, is relatively new - having been purchased in May of this year.  What is interesting is that I've taken my nano to work and it has absolutely no problem charging up on my Dell (yuk!).  For the record, I do not have iTunes installed on my work computer and I am not allowed to add any apps to my work computer without the consent of my supervisor.  The chances of getting iTunes installed on my Dell at work are pretty much nil.  Any suggestions on how I can fix the problem?

I bought a new USB dock connector and hoped, with fingers and toes crossed, that something positive would happen.  Sure enough, I was able to sync and recharge my old iPod nano.  I guess the original USB dock cable is on its last legs.  Not totally broken, but no longer reliable.  I consider my problem solved!    My thanks to everyone who took the time to read and try to solve my iPod problem.  I greatly appreciate it!

  • Ipon nano 3rd generation red. Sync and storage problems.

I have just got the new iPod nano (product red) 8 GB capacity. When i started to sync with my Intel Macbook i got suprised with a sync and storage problem. It starts syncing and suddendly it stops and lock the iPod and the Itunes. The must surprising is that happens every time the storage capacity reaches about 300 mb of music. Does anybody got this kinf of problem?
I have tried all the solutions I have found: formatting the iPod, connecting on a PC, restoring the factory settings and nothing works.

You'll want to copy what is currently on the Nano to your iTunes library on the laptop.  Your iPod can only be synced with one iTunes library at a time. See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • M-Audio ProFire 610 and Snow Leopard

I know that M-Audio has not officially declared any of its interface devices (save some simple USB ones) Snow Leopard compatible yet. But has anyone upgraded to SL yet? If so, does it recognize your Profire interface device or are we best off waiting "a few weeks" (as M-Audio's web site states) until they release new drivers?
    Thanks!

  • M-Audio Profire 610 Adobe Audition 5.5

I can record my bass on input 1 on the front of the 610 but and hear it out of headphones 1 but when I try to listen to what I recorded I have to move the headphones to the 2nd headphone input on the front. Can someone please help me with this?
    Thanks

I have a Profire Lightbridge rather than the 610 so I can't be 100% specific but it's likely just a matter of setting up the routings you want to use.  On my Profire, in the control panel for the device, there's an option to set what order you want the outputs to be put in--and you want the top of the list to be the output channels you wish to mainly use.
Within Audition you also have various routing options--each track in a multitrack session can be sent to the "main" outs or else to individual outputs.  I use either routing depending on what I'm doing.  One hint I'd give is that, once you've worked out where you want things to go, use the File/Export/Session as template command to set up one or more templates for your most common session layouts and routings.  Setting up routings for a multitrack session can be a bit time consuming so, having all your common ones as a template can be a huge time saver.
I'm not on my sound computer as a write this but, when I get back into the studio I'll see if I can give a bit more details about the M Audio side of things.

  • M-Audio ProFire 610 audio interface

    Hi,
I'm new to Garage Band and am trying to get set up properly to learn how to use the software.  Is ProFire 610 a good way to go or is there something better in a similar price range (MSRP was $399 but I got this one for aboug $200 and THEN learned another company bought M-Audio which makes me kind of concerned - as in, will the continue to upgrade their software?)  Wondering now if I should return it for something else before I get started.
    Any feedback would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Syl

    Good morning!
Thanks for the quick response.  What would you recommend, if not firewire?  There's not much out there in the way of Thunderbolt, from what I've seen and it's pretty pricey.
I'm quite a newbie at this stuff so I really appreciate the input from those with experience/knowledge.
    Apple store has Apogee Duet
sugggested.  It looks super simple which is what I'm looking for while in the beginning.  In the past I've bought equipment with such a tough learning curve that it took the fun out of it.
For now, I'm just looking for the simplest way to connect guitar, keyboard & mic so I can experiment with GarageBand and learn how to use it.
    Looking forward to your response.
    Have a good day!

  • Audio out of sync and Jumpy video

I can't seem to get through a project without some sort of critical adobe issue cropping up. Either theres a problem in the editing, or theres a problem in the exporting. Today, its the exporting.
I just did a large project (6 x 30 minute videos) for a client, and it is a roundtable discussion with slides. Inside premiere, everything plays back fine, but when I exported, the audio got out of sync and you'll see all the slides jump around.
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/qz0mudqfj224y5g/jumpy%20export.mp4
Anyone have the foggiest idea of whats happening? Its a 2012 rMPB with 8GB RAM and SSD. Exported down to 720p MP4 for review. Nothing else was running on the machine, I just let it render out last night while I was asleep.
    Please help!!

Last night I exported a queue via AME and sent it to the same USB3 drive that the project was on.
Today, I exported only one, straight from Premiere onto my Internal SSD and have the same exact issue.

  • Syncing and recognition problems

When trying to sync my iPhone as usual my Mac does now not recognise my iPhone. When I put in my password the Mac accepts the iPhone, tells me it is already registered, then stops the sync and tells me the iphone is not recognised again. What should I do?

Thanks navhari but that did not do it. I wonder whether the problem relates to the fact that my wife also uses the Mac with her iphone sometimes. We have existed like this for ages but this is a new problem today. When asked to register my iphone her itunes account address pops up, not mine, so I change the address to my own and try to log in ar described above.

  • Sync and Wifi problem (iphone 3G 3.0)

So I've been updated to 3.0 since launch day, and I've been having these problems.
First, when I plug my phone into my pc to sync, sometimes (more often than not) just disconnects and reconnects in a loop, and will do so until I unplug it. I've tried every port in my pc, and it still does it. I switched it to my laptop, and no problems. I've reinstalled itunes and the mobile device drivers, and can't think of what else I can do to fix it.
The other problem is that my phone won't stay on wifi when it is connected. It will continually switch on and off, and my browser and apps will tell me that I don't have a connection to the internet, even if I have 3g service while the wifi is disabled. Just started doing that with 3.0. I've reset my phone, powered on and off, and factory restored it twice. Not sure what else I can do, thanks!

Restored my phone again, still no change.

  • Sync and Disconnect Problems

After recent I-Tunes update, I-pod nano 3rd generation says it is syncing and then automatically disconnects and prevents another sync from occurring because of the message that "I-Pod cannot be found." Restarting computer and reopening I-Tunes does solve the problem. Resetting the I-pod did not solve the problem. New music can be added to any previously created playlist that I had created that shows up on the computer; however, any new playlist, along with any music added to the new playlist, will not sync and show up on the handheld i-pod. This only began occurring after the recent I-Tunes update. Sorry I ever did the update. It's been time consuming searching for a solution when the problem is on the end of the new update.

Does Apple care about it customers?
Too many customers having I-Pod problems and glitches that Apple does not appear to be addressing.
Looks like they only care about the initial purchase and leave their customer out in the desert for any problems that are created by their updates!
