Serious MIDI problem.

the problem is MIDI doesnt work at all on my new mac book pro retina.
the setup i have is a thunderbolt dispay, RME fireface, serato SL1 and logic pro9.
when the thunderbolt display is connected everything works amazingly. the RME fireface is connected via the FW800 port on the monitor, logic is fast and serato is reliable.
When i disconect the thunderbolt montior. everything goes belly up in terms of MIDI. in system preferances i change the input/output device to built in audio and audio from itunes etc. works great. but logic will not load. it stops and hangs when it gets to the midi part of booting up. serato will not open at all.
the most frustrating part is audioMIDI setup utility will not open MIDI settings. i can open audio settings but not MIDI. it just hangs.
i called suport from serato in new zealand today and the guy (who was awesome) remote accessed my desktop and basically had no answer. he said "i dont know."
i copy and pasted this into terminal
kextstat -kl | awk ' !/apple/ { print $6 $7 } '
from another thread where the guy had almost the same problem and this is what terminal says:
Nicholass-MacBook-Pro:EmagicUSBMIDIDriver.plugin nickrecording$ kextstat -kl | awk ' !/apple/ { print $6 $7 } '
com.serato.usb.kext(2.3.0)
com.paceap.kext.pacesupport.snowleopard(5.7.2)
com.nvidia.CUDA(1.1.0)
Nicholass-MacBook-Pro:EmagicUSBMIDIDriver.plugin nickrecording$
if anyone has any ideas of what i can do to get this working properly i would be greatly apprecieative.

I found a solution for this hanging MIDI Issue after many hours googling.
Probably The MIDI Server from Mac OS cant be started because a driver is not comaptibel with your OS.
That article here helped me:
Source: [http://www.sonosphere.com/MusicSoftware/MacOSX/AudioMIDISetup/]
On Mac Os X there is a folder
\$(HOME)/Library/Audio/MIDI Drivers
I moved the 2 existing drivers to the Desktop.
EmagicUSBMIDIDriver.plugin
Fireface MIDI.plugin
after that it worked. seems like one of the 2 Midid drivers causes problems. I do use a fireface interface but I dont know from where Emagic comes, it is supposed to be from ProLogic, whcih I dont rememeber I ever installed??? may be it is from garageband?
may be the fireface Plugin was not compatibel with mac os Mountain Lion on MacBookPro 15 retina?

  • Serious performance problems on iWeb site

Can anyone help me find the problem with peterlance.com? It looks like author Peter Lance uses iWeb to update his web site. He redesigned it recently (and did not use iWeb for the old design). Anyway, it has serious performance problems on Internet Explorer, which I was hoping you guys could help pinpoint? Is there something simple I can tell him to try to fix the problem? He is launching a new book on Tuesday so he will be getting a lot of traffic, but for now the response time is not very good. Any suggestions?
In particular, each new page seems to hang for about ten seconds and freeze using Internet Explorer 6. Any fixes?
I mean, fixes other than: "Don't use Internet Explorer!"

    Welcome to the discussions, TopDog08.
There are several plain .jpg's and that's good, but you need to convert every .png on the page (or as many .png's as you can) to a .jpg. For example,
    http://www.peterlance.com/Peter%20Lance/Home/Homefiles/shapeimage46.png
Convert that to a jpg, then replace the graphic and text on the iWeb page with this converted jpg (some have has success using Downsize http://www.stuntsoftware.com/Downsize/)
The ones you won't be able to do anything about are the ones that are a part of the blog, but that will be only 5 images instead of the many you have now.
    This image
    http://www.peterlance.com/Peter%20Lance/Home/Homefiles/shapeimage50.png
Is covering part of your menu which is why it appears that only the top half is sensitive to rolling over. You'll have to adjust your layout to account for this.
Another area to look at, there are white boxed png's surrounding the amazon book covers at the top.
    http://www.peterlance.com/Peter%20Lance/Home/Homefiles/imageEffectsAboveAli%20Mug%20TPI%20jpg.png
Another set of .png's you'll have to get rid of. How did those get put on the page?
What you see happening with IE is a java script running to fix IE's problem with png's. The fewer .png's you have, the less of a problem with IE you have.

  • Serious performance problems after updating from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7

I've got a Macbook Pro C2D 15" (late 2006). After updating the system from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7 and quicktime to 7.6.2, I experience serious performance problems which I have never seen before:
-From time to time, kernel_task has peaks in activity monitor (consumes a lot of CPU). In that moment, the mouse hangs for a short moment and audio playback is distorted/has drop outs.
-Recording audio consumes a lot of CPU (independent of the audio application).
-Video playback consumes a lot of CPU, regardless if I use VLC or the quicktime player.
Any idea what could be done? Thanks in advance.

After a few days of using CoolBook I report that my 1st generation MacBook Air is now reliable and never overheating, regardless of environment conditions.
I must point out that I do believe that it really is something new in 10.5.7 that is causing this problem as my environmental conditions have not changed and even Summer in Dublin still sees temperatures no more than 72F/22C. I am now in Madrid, where the environment is quite different, and I am still having no problem with kernel_task spinning.
I plan on reporting my problem to Apple anyway and being aggressive about the issue as MacLovinRanga did in this thread (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9647353#9647353). Perhaps many/all of those of us having this problem will obtain new MacBook Airs.

  • Logic Pro 9 Midi Problems Multiple Devices

Hello, im having issues with using multiple external devices in Logic Pro 9.  I have a virus TI 2 and a prophet hooked up to a Saffire Pro 40 audio card which I am using the Midi Hub.
Basically, If I have an external instrument (prophet) playing on a track I have to turn the virus off or else there is midi problems communicating with the prophet 08.
The Biggest issue i'm having here is that when the midi data in the external instrument track is playing, if I'm selected on the track while its playing, I get an extreme cluster #$)* of midi on the midi input display and it completely and utterly destroys what the prophet is trying to play into logic.
In my Midi setup on Mac Snow Leopard, I have the ins and outs of the prophet going to the saffire pro 40.  The virus is connected and playing midi via USB.
Anyone know how I should be setting this up so the midi information is not getting messed up?  Yes, I have consulted the user manuals.

  • Serious performance problems

    Hi
I am having some very serious performance problems witgh java web start. I have a swing client that transmits XML/HTTP to and from a server, parses it, etc... I am finding that the XML/HTTP data request
is a factor of 10 to 100X slower, at least, using Java Web Start than without.
    Any suggestions would be helpful
    Thanks
    Charles

    Charles,
I've also observed some overhead when running an application deployed with JAWS compared to running the application from the jar, or in my dev environment.
After searching these forums a bit, I found this buried nugget of info: Try System.setSecurityManager(null) if you are requesting <all-permissions/> already.
Before the workaround, my application was taking 194 seconds for a single analysis run. After this workaround was applied, the same analysis run took only 82 seconds.
So as you can see, there is considerable overhead associated with performing operations through the layers of security (my guess). My particular application does a lot of disk I/O (which is probably something the security manager watches closely).
I stress the 'workaround' aspect of this because I haven't fully investigated the ramifications of using it, but eventually this might turn into a bug submission (because if I'm already requesting all-permissions, why do I still need to do setSecurityManager(null)?).
At any rate, hope this helps!

  • ***Serious iPod Problems***

My brother is havign some serious iPod problems. A while ago the battery died after having it for about 2 years. He just had the battery replaced, it will atleast bootup now, but it wont get passed the Apple logo. I can get it to boot into Disk Mode, then reset it, but it still wont get passed the Apple logo. Does anyone have any idea what's happened to it?
    Thanks in advance!

Hi Jeff, thanks for the response, i have been able to do that a bunch of times today, i've even opened up the Disk utility and erased and then done it, no such luck, it just wont get passed the apple screen

  • Serious System Problems. Pictures and Documents folders are opening iPhoto when clicked. iPhoto Library gone.

I have been speaking to Old Toad for the majority of today trying to fix my iPhoto Library as its become corrupt and I cannot get my photos/videos back into iPhoto. After many many suggestions I seem to have created some serious system problems.

If anybody can be of assisatance that would be a great help.
I am a mac dummie, recently transfered so foolproof guidance will be helpfull!
(Unfortunatly.. and now I know the importance, I haven't used time-machine and my mac isn't backed up. If i restore to factory settings I will loose the 600+ photos and videos I had in my iPhoto Library.... which dissapeared, which is the whole reason why I created the first thread)
    Thank you!!

    Linc:
It appeared to me that somehow the OP's Picture folder was converted into an iPhoto Library as his screenshot of the PIctures folder looked like the inside of a library.
This statement by the OP make me think it might be more than just an iPhoto issue (the bold text):
I am unable to drag the Picture folder to the desktop, It wont move, and iPhoto (which is still empty) just opens.
Some how the same is happening with Documents,

  • Serious display problem. Please help!

I'm having a serious display problem all of a sudden. It is not application specific. Various different applications are pixelating, especially wherever I move my cursor and click the mouse. When I grab the entire application with the cursor and move it, the image duplicates into hundreds of images all over my screen. If I shake it around awhile, eventually it goes back to normal. What is going on??!!
Here's some background info: I'm on a 2009 Mac Pro. I still use the old fashioned tube monitors with mini display port to VGA converters, but I've never had a problem up until now. Just before the problem started happening, I tried to open up some .jpg files in Quicktime Pro 7.
I would greatly appreciate any ideas of what the problem could be and how to fix it.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!

sir since update of ios 8.1.2 i got serious battery problem on 3g 4.30 hrs my battery gets low and sometimes serious net probelms please give an update for this issue its not alone me my friends too getting many problem commonly battery problem please can this be resolved
its not related to any hardware because last year april i got replacement new phone from apple and i maintained it well...!

Probably apps running in the background are causing this, sometimes Mail get's stuck connecting to the mail server, or some social media app like Facebook can also be a reason for prolonged background activity.
Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose any data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.
If this does not help, setting it up as new device would be the next step:

    Hello labmaster,
It sounds to me like your system is capable of connecting to the internet, but that it is unable to do much beyond this. It appears that these applications that you are trying to build in LabVIEW are exposing some of the networking limitations that exist on your machine. Unfortunately I do not know what to make of the port scan that you have provided. There can be many causes of networking issues that you would want to troubleshoot with your IT department or network card manufacturer. What I can do is to provide you with a list of ports used by National Instruments software. You will want to be sure that no packets are being blocked on these ports. Also keep in mind that when using TCP or UDP communication, you can specify the ports which you are using. Also, as a starting point, you may want to disable any antivirus software or firewalls that might hinder communication. I hope that this will at least get you started in figuring out some of these networking difficulties. Thanks,
    Mike D.

  • Serious date problem

    I am using Form 6i.
I am getting serious date problem.
The MM/DD/RRRR is converted to DD/MM/RRRR and the result is false record.
How to avoid this serious problem. I am very shocked to find this error after few hours of brainstorming session.
I am using following query to create cursor
[htm]     CURSOR cur_first IS SELECT      a.item_code,

I've just noticed something in the where clause that makes all this a lot easier.
         CURSOR cur_first IS SELECT      a.item_code,
         b.item_description,
         a.lot_no,
         d.name model,
         c.vendname,
         date_of_purchase,
         warrenty_upto,
         quentaty,
         rate,
         pc_type,
         warrenty_upto AS amc_date
         FROM      pc_item_procurement_history a,
                        pc_item_master b,
                        pc_vendor_master c,
                        pc_model_master d
         WHERE a.item_code= b.item_code
         AND a.modelcode=d.modelcode
         AND a.vendcode=c.vendcode
AND (b.item_description LIKE '%'||:blk_main.item_name||'%' OR :blk_main.item_name IS NULL)
         AND (a.warrenty_upto <= :blk_main.to_date OR :blk_main.to_date IS NULL)
         AND warrenty_flag_yn='W'
         ORDER BY b.item_description;BUT...
Is Warrenty_upto really a date column? You say it is "stored as m/d/yyyy" but a date is not stored with a format in oracle - it's just a date and the format is applied when you retrieve the data.
In sql*plus if you Describe the table you can see the column type. If you select the data you only ever get a string.
    I'm assuming :blk_main.to_date is a date.

  • Serious printing problem - HP Photosmart 7350 / Mac OS 10.6.6

    Hello to all helpers!
Recently, I encountered a serious problem with my printer, an HP Photosmart 7350. This printer has always worked with my setup over an Airport Express network. However, it suddenly stopped working mid-job last weekend after updating to Mac OS 10.6.6, and I have not found any solutions. The printer has power, plenty of ink and paper, and appears to be connected to the computer, but when a job is sent to it, it tries to initiate printing but it doesn't, and after a few minutes the printer queue pauses itself. The printer will print a test page from itself, but it will not print one sent from the computer.
I've tried many conventional solutions, including:
-deleting the original job and resending it to the printer
    -restarting the printer
    -restarting the computer
-unplugging the USB cable and power cable and plugging them back in
-replacing the USB cable with a different one
-connecting the printer directly to the computer instead of the Airport Express
-removing and reinstalling the printer driver (Gutenprint 5.2.3)
    -repairing disk permissions
-resetting the print system and reinstalling the printer driver
I am completely confused about what happened, but I'm guessing it is an incompatibility issue related to the OS update. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

So I have tried the foregoing suggestions and reinstalled with Gutenprint 5.2.6, but I still have the same errors popping up in console, suggesting incompatibility.
Is there any hope for this printer anymore or am I going to Office Depot later today?

  • The "First Bar of MIDI" problem

Just curious how many people experience this behavior which I see almost daily --
Often I'll have a passage on a Vi (usually EXS24, sometimes a 3rd party synth) and it plays back fine as long as Logic has some time to "run up" to the MIDI data. But if I set my locators to cycle with the start point right where the notes start, then sometimes the notes don't come out at first. There's a kind of pause, and then a rush of notes as Logic seems to 'catch up'.
So, what used to be eighth notes don't come out as "ba-ba-ba-ba" but instead, sound like "........bbbbbbbbaaaa!" A big last minute clump of sound.
The "workaround" is to start playback sooner. But that can often lead to a very unmusical 'loop' to play over, having to incorporate an extra bar just so Logic can play back some simple MIDI notes properly.
I've seen this countless times on my system. Version 7 and 8 (though I don't remember seeing it in version 6). Anyone else notice instability of the first bar of MIDI playback? Any suggestions for troubleshooting to isolate the cause?
    thanks.

Try also to set ReWire behavior in "LIVE mode"...
this features is required when you need to use Logic for Run Midi through Reason without Latency!
(this also require a lot of CPU power request)
Usually I suggest to avoid to start a song from BAR1...
this suggestion is also reported on the Logic Manual!

Thanks for the attempted help, but you misunderstand the problem.
    1 - I have never used Reason.
2 - I am not starting my song on Bar 1. Never have. But if I'm working on a section, say, bars 24-28, then the notes in bar 24 will exhibit the erratic behavior I outlined above. Wherever you start playback in Logic Pro, the first bar of playback will often experience MIDI buffering issues. Not every single time. But often.
If, as pancenter suggests, this is simply a by product of Logic's "buffer/cache" system, then I sure hope it's something they plan on fixing. Not being able to do something as simple as playing back a series of eighth notes seems like a rather serious flaw for such an 'advanced' DAW.
I'll try the suggestion of setting my process buffer to 'small', which I have tried in the past. Unfortunately this is known to cause some problems with UAD-1 cards...
thanks again. Curious to hear other users' experiences and possible workarounds.

  • Midi problems and crash report in a loop

    hello,
i´m running os x 10.8.3. on mac pro intel quad core. no midi-devides work, whenever i connect a device (e.g. AKAI LPD8 or Q49...) via USB the report crash comes over and over again, using a lot of CPU and the application crashes.
in the midi driver folder in the librarys is nothing; no third-party content. the midi-studio (audio-midi-controller from utillities) also won´t work (endless loading...). can anyone help or has the same problem?
    thank alot,

  • Please take a quick look at this: Midi Problem with Logic 8.0.2

Hello, I am trying to connect up my Roland FP3 Keyboard with Logic 8.0.2. I am using the following MIDI IN/OUT to USB device:
MUSIC STORE Midi Port 1x1 USB
    http://www.musicstore.de/de_DE/EUR/-/art-PCM0006795-000
In the Audio Midi Setup in Mac OS X 10.5.5, the Midi device calls itself WORLDE MIDI PORT and is automatically recognized. However, when I click on "Test Setup", nothing happens. This is not the first time that i have setup such a device and i recall that with other MIDI-USB devices that the computer plays some kind of sound to confirm that the MIDI-USB device is working.
More importantly, when i open up Logic 8.0.2, the transport bar displays "No In", "No Out". This is very confusing seeing as that the device is recognized in the Audio/Midi Setup. It is unlikely that the device is broken, because I've now gone back to the store where i bought it and replaced the first device with an identical second device - and am now having the same problem. The staff at this music store say that the Midi-USB device should automatically display, for example, C-sharp 4, in the transport bar without any additional tinkering. I have a feeling though that there is some kind of button that i have not pressed (or HAVE pressed that i shouldn't have pressed) and as a result can't play music in from my keyboard into my computer.
I really appreciate anyone who takes the time to give me a helpful pointer here. As you can imagine this is quite frustrating. Thank you very much in advance!
    Peter

"No in No out" simply means there is no MIDI coming in or going out +at that moment+. If you strike keys and move controllers and it still says no in no out, then you may have a problem. Is that the case? Have you actually touched the keys...?
    regards, Erik.
