Serious problems with ipod  Classic 30 gb

hello everyone,
a friend has given me an ipod classic 30gb that is broken to see if I can fix it. It does something that I have never seen ... when I plugged the ipod in to my mac last night it lit up with only 10% luminosity and the message in English that the battery was very low and to not disconnect (the battery level was at about 10% approx.). I left it charging all night and this morning the battery was at 45% approx .. I tried to restart the iPod by following the instructions on the Apple web site (moving the hold switch and then press the center button and menu simultaneously). It then lit up with white apple logo on a black background (luminance 100%) followed by the list of languages to choose from ... BUT ... It won´t let you choose the language or move or reposition the cursor... and then it immediately turns itself off... and then after about 5 minutes, it restarts and shutdowns all over again by itself. but again with no possibility to make any changes in the settings.
Is it just a matter of the battery? Should I leave it charging until 100%? It has been plugged in for about 4 hours more now but doesnt seem to move past the 45% charged signal of this morning.
Any suggestions, ideas?

Sounds like the ipod is having issues, and it's not able to talk correctly to the processor responsible for the battery charging. It could be indeed a battery issue, but only a professional could tell you...
If you wanted to have someone look at it you can try a service like iResQ.com.

  • Serious problem with Ipod touch 4g

    Hi.
Sorry form my bad english but i have a serious problem with my Ipod.
Couple days ago my Ipod touch 4g was little bit weted on rain(just couple drops on screen and maybe little bit in headphones and dock connectors) When  saw this, i putted Ipod in rice for 72 hours.
After being wet i not try ot tuned on or charge, just stay in rice. After that i try tuned on. but the device isnt'starting.
When putted oncharge, and after 2 hours i pushed sleep and home buttons and he turned on. On the display had a "z" or other name sig-sag symbol,
later i readthis meeans battery is fully discharged and it's need from couple hours to charge. Butwhen i saw this symbol, on the display in upper corner have a little spot(maybe moisture),and putted in rice for other 24 hours. On nextday try to charge and turned on, but this time the ipod isn't turned on. Even can't start recovery or dfu mode.
My question is - did wet and not warking Ipod is normal to be not recognises by pc?-  even date recovery programs cant'recognised him.
Also the important is condition on my cabble. Its verry bad condition, and even before weting Ipod, ismaking problmes wih charging.
    Its posible problem is cabble?
    Pleasa help.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • [PLEASE HELP!] Problems with iPod Classic 160GB.

Okay, I was about to sync my iPod Classic 160GB and go to bed. I plugged it in and everything was good. I am not sure if it was syncing yet, but it fell off the cord because my HP laptop moved. I wasn't worried at the time, The apple screen came up so I pressed Middle Button+Menu to reset it, then I plugged it back in. When I plugged it back in it said I had to format the drive in G.. The screen of the iPod said Connected Eject before disconnecting and had the circle arrows like when it is loading. It seems to be working fine when I unplug it.
But anyways, When I unplugged it a second time (I did click Disconnect in the toolbar on the actual device, not in iTunes) it didn't work again, and it brought up the grey apple screen again, then went to the language. so I plugged it back in. Then I said OK to the reformat. I clicked Default settings to the format and left the Volume Label blank because I don't know what that is...
It said WARNING: Formatting your iPod will delete all files on it, or something along the lines of that. so, I said okay, I'll just resync it, just get on the reformat. When I clicked format it said that it couldn't format my iPod... So, once again, I disconnected it, ejecting from the actual device in the toolbar, and it was absolutely cleared asking me for the Language. It keeps doing this every time I plug it in, and even when I switch USB slots. it wont read into my iTunes either.
I am really sad, and please answer because my iPod is basically my life, this is my worst nightmare come true.
    PLEASE ANSWER QUICK, Thanks...

  • Weird problems with ipod classic 80gb, hdd's gone?

Hi, hope u could help me.
Excuse my not fluent english, I'm not british/american so I will try to make myself as clear as possible. Thanks
First of all, got iPod classic 80gb, systems Vista/XP, was trying to cope with this problem on both computers, but ran out of ideas, so decided to make a topic on Apple forum.
Few days ago my iPod was working fine, then I put some stuff on it (put them in 'Notes', using iPod as a pendrive) and weird things started to happen. Maybe it has something to do with it, don't know, but will try to write as many details as possible.
When I connect my iPod to the computer (i tried on 3 computers), every time my Windows doesn't recognize an iPod (computer sees something has been connected, but doesn't see what). So if I go to 'Computer' I even do not see an iPod disc.
I can't open iTunes when iPod is connected, but once I disconnect my iPod, iTunes opens immediately. If I open iTunes before connecting an iPod, iTunes works fine but it can't see an iPod as well. (I used an option with checking connection with iPod but it sees nothing unfortunetely).
Later, when I want to disconnect my iPod using 'safe remove hardware' it doesn't work, just hangs.. so I have to unplug my iPod and once I do it, it immediately appears 'USB xxxxx now can be disconnect safely' (something like that, very similiar to the iTunes case).
When I disconnect my iPod, it just hangs showing 'Connected, do not disconnect', sth like that, so I got to restart it and then works fine.
My iPod works fine without connecting to the computer, everything is just fine.
Any ideas? Already tried to reset settings on iPod and tried to re-install iTunes, but I guess problems lays somewhere beetween iPod and computer which doesn't see my iPod.. Also I tried to re-install USB slots/drivers, didn't help.
    Thanks in advance.
    Cheers, Robert.

When I had Windows XP on a Lenovo, I also had a U2 20Gb iPod...The problem was, believe it or not, the battery! I took it to ipodrepair in Toronto, and they said there was some servo or switch that was blown. It couldn't charge properly and when it was connected to the computer, it went into limbo - not able to charge, not able to load the ipod.
So, check with repair if you can...It may be the battery, even on a new one!
    Good Luck!

  • Unusual syncing problem with ipod Classic

I recently bought a new 160 Gb ipod Classic and the first one that came seemed to sync all my music but as soon as I removed the cable I got an Apple screen and an unresponsive ipod. Eventually Apple swapped it for a second ipod. I found it difficult to get this one to work properly although the hard disk on this one hadn't failed like the first one.
I did have to restore the new ipod at least twice and after the second time I decided not to sync all my music at once as before but selected a few genres to start with and it worked fine so I gradually selected more and more genres each time I synced it until I had all my music on the ipod. So all was fine.
After using the ipod for a couple of weeks or so with this I decided to try and sync the ipod by selecting All the music rather than by genre. As all the music was already on the ipod this didn't take very long to sync. As I normally play the music on random shuffle I selected shuffle and what happened next I've never seen before but the track that was about to be played appeared on the screen but didn't start playing. As I pressed the play button the track wouldn't play but the ipod jumped to the start of the next track and just kept doing that without playing anything.
I then stopped this and decided to sync the ipod as before by selecting all the genres. When this was done the ipod then played normally as before. While this is fine I'd like to be able to sync my ipod by selecting all the music as I've been doing for years with my old ipod Classic 80 Gb. Is there anyone who can explain what might be causing this problem to occur?

Ok here goes, after 6 weeks of restoring, resetting, putting device into manual scan, manually resetting, downloading itunes older versions, newer versions and all around fighting my ipod; I have had the same results. When restoring through itunes the ipod is "still named", now one would think when doing a full system restore on the ipod via itunes it would do a full restore and the name would be no longer existent, so not the case. I have gotten multiple error messages, this is the most prevalent, "The "ipod name" cannot be synced. A duplicate file name was specified", another is in order for this ipod to work you must restore with itunes. I am thinking that there is problem with the new software, you see yesterday I set up a computer that has XP and itunes 7, the sync went without a hitch, no freezes, no long pauses, no problems. Then I made the mistake of hitting the button to update itunes "newer version", rediculous mistake. All of the problems are as pevalent as before, ipod will not sync, manually I can add movies and music but no more than 264 songs will add. My question is, why did Apple create this very nice, durable large player if they do not have the capability to serve they customers with the correct software?

  • BMW 335i ipod interface connection problem with ipod classic 80GB

Hi all, i have a 2007 BMW 335i with dealer installed ipod interface, and i been using it since, it's simply i just connect ipod with the cable in the glove compartment and leave it there, and it charges and stanby, when i start up the car the audio jumps right to where i left off on the ipod and it also let me control it with iDrive. after about one and half year of usage, i think there is something wrong with my ipod or i dont know for sure, well here is the problem, when i start the car it will play music from the ipod and i can control it from iDrive and everything but after about 5-10 mins, the music stop, and my iDrive shows weird playlist, and i need to unplug the ipod and replug again to have it connect and then it will stop by itself, after 5-10 mins, any of you guys have a bmw with the ipod interface have this problem?? i dont really know if it's my ipod problem or my bmw ipod interface problem. anyone can help me with this? thank you!

That is most likely going to be a problem with your iPod, not the interface.
Have you tried Resetting the iPod? (hold down the menu and center buttons for six seconds).
If that fails to work, try Restoring the iPod in iTunes.

  • Problem with Ipod Classic

    Hello
I have an ipod Classic 160 GB. Recently I had to re-contruct my itunes library. I have synced the library and the ipod 3-4 times. Each time itunes seems to transfer the recordings and podcasts without any difficulties. However, nothing is coming up on the ipod. There are 30-40 60 minute "songs" (lectures and sermons) and 1700 podcasts. Previousy I had 100 plus "songs" and 2700 podcasts. The ipod is telling me now that 148 GB have been used. The ipod must be stacking each sync on top of the previous one.
I am lost. Can anyone help?
    Thank you.
    George

Have you tried plugging it into iTunes again to Sync it again?
    Phil

i am SOOOOOOO frustrated. someone please shed some light on this.

  • Serious problem with ipod!

    Hi people,
Having a bit of a nightmare with my ipod...it came up with the sad face on holiday and when I came home I checked the support site and tried resetting and restoring it...however my PC now doesn't recognise my ipod even in Device Manager and when I plug it into either the mains or the PC to charge it freezes after one bar and then goes back to the sad face and then the one bar on the battery.....any ideas? I'm totally stumped on this one...
    Thanks

    Hi,
I am currently experiencing a similar problem, so I am just adding to the previous question.
All usual troubleshooting tips are not working with my ipod. Problem: the display shows the folder with exclamation point and the ipod is spinning the whole time (resetting is not working anymore, tried millions of time already, seting ipod into disk mode is possible but doesn;t seem to help when trying to restore etc.) and when I tried to completetly restore the ipod, I noticed that the ipod update doesn't recognize the ipod (the PC neither), thus no restoring possible. I read through all apple tips on the website, but nothing seems to work. Has anyone any addtional idea before I revert back to an Apple store?? Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks!

  • Serious Problem With iPod Nano/iTunes...

    Hello all.
2 Months ago, I upgraded from a Dell Dimension 2800 to a 5100. I was using an iPod Shuffle. Upon connecting the device to my new computer, it would come up with 'iTunes cannot recognize the iPod' and so on. When trying to Restore Factory Settings, the process could not be completed. The Shuffle ended up breaking and was replaced by Apple. It still doesn't work in my computer.
I now have an iPod Nano, although the same problem occurs. I have reformatted my hard-drive several times, and have tested just the iPod with nothing else on the computer. Still the same problems. My USB Drives work fine, and Mass Storage works fine before installing iTunes and the iPod software. I am guessing that the iPod has corrupted my USB Drivers or something like that. I have followed all the help topics - they do not work. Both the Shuffle and the Nano work on other computers.
I know several people who have the same problem. I would like to know if anyone else has the same problem, and has any idea how to solve it?

  • Serious problem with iPod 30GB

I just bought a brand new iPod 30GB today, I had a 4GB mini and decided to upgrade. Well to cut a long story short, I know have a little folder icon on the screen, all colour has been lost from the screen (it's in back and white). I've tryed resetting, no help at all. i've tryed to restore the factory setting but it say's it cannot update because other programs are using the iPod when no other programs are running! I need any help that can be given. Thanks in advance.

You get one free phone call to Apple within 90 days of getting your iPod. If it's not convenient to get to an Apple store, I strongly suggest calling them. They will most likely send you a box to put your iPod in, and three days after shipping it out, you should get it or a new one back.
Sorry, I don't know the number. I think it's somewhere on the documents that came with it, or you can find it on Apple's site, probably.
Do your videos play in black and white?

  • Ios 7 not compatible with Ipod classic

Ever since Itunes updated to IOS7 my Ipod classic that has been completely reliable for about four years is now unable to sync. I get a wide variety of responces from itunes while trying. It says the disc is not located, compatable, or sometimes it pretends to sync but only about 20 songs out of my 8,000+ songs were synced. I've tried everything from restoring (about 8 times total), trying to fix any bugs through my windows7 on the device, and only attempting to put on certain playlists- only to have the same results.
I do hope that the Apple people know of this problem and are trying to resolve it because I would be very irritated to find that I can no longer use my Ipod. (its 160 gig)
-If you know of anything that could help, I would greatly appreciate it.

iOS has nothing to do with the iPod Classic, it is used on the iPod Touch and iPhone.
Your Classic uses firmware (the operating system) 1.1.2. Nothing whatsoever to do with iOS.
I suggest you have a browse through the Classic discussions and iTunes discussions for anything concerning problems with iPod Classic syncing, as I have noticed a few posts on that topic. I have not experienced any issues myself with my iPod Classic, running 1.1.2 for PC.
Since there has been no update to the iPod Classic's firmware (operating system) for quite a while, the problems that I have noticed in the discussions, that mention partial Playlist syncing, additional songs not being synced etc. are more likely to be associated with updates to iTunes, which is now on version 11.1.38.

  • Serious problem with my iPod Classic/iTunes

I have a 6th Generation iPod classic (80 GB), and recently, I have been having some serious problems with it.
When I connect it to iTunes, there is usually no problem, it shows up, plays and displays the music correctly, etc. However, if I try to ADD any music to it, iTunes will freeze, then close, and within 5 minutes, my entire computer will freeze completely, and be shut off. For whatever reason, happen when my iPod finally disconnects because my computer turned off, all of my music is missing from the library (This doesn't happen every time it freezes, because I try to disconnect my iPod manually before everything freezes). The music is still on the iPod, (it says that I have XX.X GB of "other" instead of music/videos), but it doesn't show up. When I plug in my iPod, iTunes says that there was a problem and I need to restore it. The first time this happened, I lost over 5,800 songs, but I forgave Apple, because these things do occasionally happen, plus I had no idea what exactly went on. The SECOND time happened within the same week, after I had put 800 songs back on the restored iPod. The first time happened when I was using iTunes 10 (which is seriously buggy on my computer, and freezes often), so I switched to iTunes 9 (still buggy, but doesn't freeze quite as much), and the same thing happened. So now I'm thinking it's my iPod's fault. My iPod does a whole host of minor problems over time such as making certain songs cut off at a certain specific point for no reason (Always the same song, always the same cut off point, and I can't fast forward past it, I also can't delete the songs because if I highlight them on iTunes, iTunes will freeze, and if I find them under the music folder in iPod control, my computer will freeze), freezing the entire iPod for seemingly no reason, and somehow messing up my album artwork (it will appear as "Colourful Static"), along with alot more.
I know this is a troublesome problem, but if anyone could somehow shine some light on this problem, it would be tremendously appreciated.
    Thank you
    -Eric Luna

Unfortunately, when a hard drive starts clicking that means it's going bad. The mechanism is having trouble reading the drive. Since the iPod is mostly just a harddrive and a battery I have a feeling that this is your problem.
    watch this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMm6c3fr-fU
about 25ss in is where the clicking starts. If it sounds like that, but softer and more muffled since it is a smaller drive that is being enclosed then I think you might be SOL. Maybe if you're iPod is still under warranty you can get a credit and go for a touch and avoid moving parts all together?
