Serious security concern: PDF dropped encryption & unable to re-encrypt. Get error 18

I am really hoping that someone can help since this is a serious security issue for us.
We had a document encrypted with a password (required to open it). However, along the way of several rounds of comments and reviews (which includes adding blank pages for lengthy comments), somewhere along the line, the PDF "dropped encryption." It has recently been noted that the PDF opens without password. So, I tried to re-encrypt but it gives the following error: "The document could not be saved. There was a problem reading this document (18)." Considering that there could be a disk I/O issue, I have copied this file to different disks and yet the error remains.
Is there any way, regardless of how user-unfriendly it might be, to encrypt this file? Adding password to the file outside of PDF (e.g. zipping/compressing it with password) is not an option. I am on Acrobat 10.1.7 on MS Windows 7 Professional.

If you applied a user password (required for opening the file) but didn't also set an author password (required to change permissions) then anyone who opens the file in Acrobat can easily remove the encryption, as once past the initial prompt they have total control.
Unlike with an author password, the user password on a PDF file encrypts the entire file stream; so any bit-level corruption during save or transfer cannot remove it - the encrypted stream would be altered (damaging the file contents) but it would not suddenly become plain; any more than a random bit change would turn English into French.
You could try a low-level Preflight repair, but once a file has been corrupted it's very unlikely that you can continue to work with it. One option would be to export the annotations to a datafile (via the options menu on the Comments Panel), re-create the underlying document from source, then re-import the annotations.

After downloading the latest upgrade of Adobe, I can no longer open files that are PDF's. Why do I keep getting error 0.104?

Since October 23rd, after downloading the recent upgrade for Adobe Reader, I continually keep getting error code 0.104 whenever I try to open a file that is in PDF format. No matter if I'm using Internet Explorer or Chrome. Huge waste of time! I have restored the Adobe to previous upgrade of September 2014, which was working fine. I have restarted the computer several times since I restored to prior version with no luck at all.

Adobe Reader could not open 'Employment Application(1).pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).

How i remove a security program on my Mac, when i try i get error 1009

On MAC i have a security program from Fullrate, when i try to remove this i get error 1009. I don't have Fullrate anymore .

Unable to send emails, get error message that access to server is denied...problem began a few days ago

For the past few days, since the Thunderbird update, I have been unable to send any emails from my thunderbird account. I have also tried going into my juno account online, and any emails that I send out come back with the mailer demon response - tha the email did not go through. With help from Juno I have tried to reconfigure my account, turn off my Anti-Virus and Firewall (Norton 360) changed my password many times, but nothing is working.
This is the error message that I receive...An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: Access denied...4664b9656464c9c921b121b9b9c5354d11b420a93520358d357984a56d99d1cd24a07174e57559e0b1f00c7149f025b925ed4d45140c20f5.... Please check the message and try again.
In the past, I have received this message and was told by Juno to change my password. When I did that, I was again able to send out emails. But this time nothing has worked. I even tried a system restore to go back before the Thunderbird update, but that did not help either. I really need to use my email, and just can't imagine what has happened to it. I am not sure if this is a problem for Thunderbird or for Juno my email server. Please advise. thanks.

To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try the following:
*Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.

Note that Norton's is notorious for not being "off" when their interface says they are. Safe mode with networking guarantees that.

I have just tried to convert a PDF file for the first time. Get error message-can't access service.

Could you try these steps to alleviate the access issue you're having:
Choose Edit > Preferences (Win) or Adobe Reader > Preferences (Mac)
Click 'Online Services' on the left-hand side
Sign out of our Adobe ID and sign back in.
Try to convert your document again.
If you continue to have trouble, please verify that you can access the service via the web interface. To do this:
Open a browser and navigate to http://exportpdf.acrobat.com/signin.html
Try to log in with your Adobe ID (email address) and password
Once logged in, follow the on-screen prompts to convert a file
Let us know if you're still having trouble and we'll try to help!

Just purchased annual PDF converter and cannot use it- keep getting error message

I just bought the Adobe service that costs approx. $24 annually, to convert PDF files to Word.doc or Word.docx. I can log in properly, but when I click "Convert" I continually get an error message. I already corrected one error in the system (had not specified English as my language") and thought that would take care of the problem but I still receive the error message. Can't find a way to actually call Adobe on the phone, so this seems to be the only form of help and support. PLEASE HELP!

Unable to install UPK - get error while loading library

I have installed UPK 11.0. I get an error when I start the Developer Client.
"Unable to connect to remote server. Verify the webserver and database server are running"
I have followed the install steps and have updated the profile, library location etc.,
OS details - Windows 7 Professional, SP 1

Are you trying to access the service from Acrobat Reader?
Try using the link: https://cloud.acrobat.com/exportpdf sign in with your Adobe ID and try to convert a pdf to doc and check if that works for you.

No, you should be concerned about the friends you have at your place. If you think they will do that, I'd suggest you get some more trustworthy friends.
Take some personal responsibility to protect your internet service.
Personally I only use a wired ethernet connected laptop and have wireless turned off, so that concern is mitigated.

Unable to DES encrypt / Unable to establish security context.

I am trying to call a tux client from Oracle Stored proc as an external procedure.
My tpinit fails giving me the following error:
GP_CAT:1567 Unable to DES encrypt data (50/517).
LIBTUX_CAT:6243: Unable to establish security context Error code 70 minor_status
4290672230.
LIBTUX_CAT:2005 gssapi function returned -3003.
However the client runs perfectly fine when I run it from unix command prompt.
My WSL is runing on a server with NO security.
Can someone help?

Hi,
AL11 tries to open that file for reading and it fails for some reason. Maybe SAP does not have enough authorization to read file. Check file permissions on OS level.

BT Digital Vault security concerns

Hello all,
I have copyrighted video in my Digital Vault but I'm concerned about piracy. I have done some tests and it seems that any prior contacts are able to copy the video link and then stream it directly from the vault, even after they have been removed as contacts and the folder is set to private. This seems like a serious security breach to me.
Is there anyway around this issue? I want to make use of BT Digital Vault but it seems to be very unsecure.

How do I secure a PDF that has been signed so that it can't be opened in the new Word

Hoping someone can help. As the title suggests I need some advice in securely locking a PDF after it has been signed.
I know how to secure a PDF document so that it can't be opened in the new version of the Word 2013.
File > properties > Security and pick password protect
Then open Word and down the bottom left hand corner click 'open other documents'
This then attempts to open the PDF and if secure it will fail to open if unsecured it will open making the content fully editable
However when you sign a document you can't secure it by going file > properties > Security and pick password protect.
Then open Word and down the bottom left hand corner click 'open other documents'
This then opens the PDF and makes the content fully editable but removes the signature
The content is fully editable - how can I lock this????????????????????????????

Hi Garetch,
You could encrypt the file first, but set the permissions to allow for signing. After that you can sign the encrypted file (you just can't encrypt a signed file). As long as you get the order of operations correct (encrypt first, sign second) you will end up at the same place you are trying to get to.

While upload a scured adobe pdf file into a ztable it is getting uploaded but i am unable to view the file from SAP. While downloading from SAP, the file size was increased and showing error message. Is any standard transaction code to upload and download the Adobe secured PDF file.
