Serious trouble installing itunes.....HELP!!

I recently purchased an iphone, and needed to install itunes to successfully activate the phone. When I click on "download" on the itunes page, instead of it giving me the usual prompt of "run or save".....I'm getting this odd window at the top left of my screen that is blank and only has Windows Internet Explorer at the top. And on the itunes page, it says "thank you for downloading itunes", except that it hasn't downloaded. I'm stumped, can anyone help me??

I'm getting this odd window at the top left of my screen that is blank and only has Windows Internet Explorer at the top.
If it's getting that far into the download, another thing that might be worth trying is the technique from the following post:

  • Hello i am having trouble installing itunes 10.5 on my laptop i have windows vista. it says error 7 windows error 998. i now have no itunes. i have tried to uninstall itunes but it still wont work and keep coming up with that message. please help!

    hello
i am having major trouble installing itunes. i had itunes working fine and i went to update it as it told me there was an update which i thought i did. i went on my laptop the next day and it said "itunes was not installed correctly error 7 windows error 998"
i read a few articles on here but i am having no joy. i uninstalled itunes and reinstalled and that did not work. i also unistalled some other apple things cant remember the names sorry!
i am not a whiz on a computer so really need some help please!!

Installing, and uninstalling, applications never touches or removes the data.
Clean out and uninstall all the apple programs and software thru Programs and manually.
Might want to use Revo and CCleaner
I always use manual standalone installers (and keep a couple backup versions)
itunes 10.5 may affect iTunes media playlists, not sure, depends on what you have.
A search of these forums will show some threads.
I'd clean up vista, you need SP2 or later, and specific error message?
I wonder as you arenot the first with a dell if maybe the OS or included software.
Security programs like Norton and older versions of Kaspersky have been implicated.
Also settings in IE that affect pop-ups and plug-ins.

  • Trouble installing itunes - 'cant remove older version'

i had trouble installing itunes recently. i think i may have been installing it earlier when my computer ran out of battery half way through or crashed or something.
the error i get seems to have to do with removing an older verion of itunes (i think one of the last verison 5's, i have not updated in a while ) i checked the folders that apple semi-secretly caches with install/uninstall files and found only quicktime install files present, no itunes.
help please? i cant sync my ipod now :-\

    Glad you got it going!
You only need that mobile support program if you have an iTouch or iPhone:

    I've uninstalled it.

  • Trouble installing itunes -itunessetup.exe is not a valid win32 application

I have trouble installing itunes. The following message appears: C:\Documents and Setting\Owner\My Documents\ itunsSetup.exe is not a valid Win32 application. I tried the following but I still have problems: remove previous version of itunes, remove quicktime, install again quicktime as a standalone, delete temporary files, restart computer, delete all itunes related files.

    Finally an answer from Apple:
    Dear Stefanie,
I understand that you're receiving an error when trying to open the iTunes
installer that you downloaded. I'd like to try to help you resolve this issue.
It appears that your web browser may be truncating your download of the iTunes
software. I urge you to try using a different web browser to download iTunes. If
this is not possible, you can also try using a different computer to download
iTunes, and then transfer the iTunes installer file (iTunesSetup.exe) to your
original computer and open it from there.
Some transfer options would include using your iPod to transfer the file via
hard disk mode, using a local network, burning a CD, using an external hard disk
or a USB drive, or even sending the file to yourself via email or over an
    instant messaging network.
I hope this information helps to resolve your iTunes installation issue. If it
does not and you still need assistance from Apple, you will need to call Apple
technical support (there may be a fee associated with the call). To find the
    appropriate phone number, please visit:

Everytime I try to run the setup though it comes up witht his message: "The installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package." I have tried deleting all other itunes setups and then trying again to install but the same message pops up. I am currently using windows vista if that helps.
