Or is the presence of this forum alone supposed to make me feel better by itself? I've posted this question 3 times. Perhaps there is no answer. I'm getting frustrated. Since my iPod will only work with iTunes I need it to work or I've got a $300 paperweight.
Here's my question:
When trying to import a CD (a bunch of them) I get a message saying unknown error occurred (-1401).
I am running itunes ver 6.0.1.3
Windows xp home
My itunes files are on a network drive
Anybody have any ideas what an error -1401 is?

3) All the issues with version 6? No offense, but there are far fewer issues with this than with any version since it was released for windows. Of course, it looks like you just recently registered as a part of the community so it is quite possible that you are not familiar with the troubles previous versions caused.

Tecra M5: DVD drive does not read these mini DVDs

I have canon dvd handycam, and mini dvd works on it. One month back i recorded movie and pictures on mini dvd using handycam and ran mini dvd on my tecra M5 dvd drive, it worked very fine.
Now after 1 month i have 5 mini dvds with movies and pictures which i took on 1 month vacation in diffierent countries, i tried my best but tecra dvd drive does not read these mini dvd, cd drive label appears instead dvd drive when i put mini dvd in it.
All other standard size dvds, cds working fine on it.Its complicated and as well as irritating.
Any suggestions?
Why its messedup?

Seems the lens cannot read this miniDVDs. Possibly the drive lens cannot calibrate and therefore the miniDVDs are nonreadable.
Try the solution from sascha. Maybe youre a lucky man and it works.
If not, try to remove the drive physically from the notebook. Reboot the notebook without the drive. The Windows and BIOS shouldnt recognize the drive.
Then shuts down again, put the drive into the notebook and boot up the unit.
The notebook should recognize the drive and should indicate the firmware again.
Im not sure if this will help you but its attemptable

Dear All,
does anyone from Skype read the comments regarding their sales partners for hardware sold through their shop?
A simple search for ChatandVision should give some insight; futher searches online even more.
We are all happy Skype customers wanting to buy hardware to use your service; your "sales partner" is making the exprience a thorough misery to the point that people give up using skype as it is not possible to buy the hardware easily through alternate channels.
There are far fewer options available to us thatn there were which makes me wonder what the roadmap is.
If the alternative is getting a sip phone (more readily available, could Skype give a list of compatible models and information how to set this up?)

Any list I used to see for Skype certified products has been removed and hasn't been replaced with a comparable page. There doesn't seem to be that many products. That seems to go with the territory of an open vs. a closed standard. I generally just web search for available products at the major online retailers and then see if I can find a merchant of that product in the region I'm in. I've purchased many items from merchants around the globe. It seems to me that availability and level/quality of service at times tends to be indirectly proportional with little to no alternatives. I don't know if that's the dilemma that is faced and the only resolution is for issues to be addressed on a case by case basis. These forums tends to see all the bad cases and none of the good ones (if they exist).
I've never really known Skype to provide a public roadmap like some companies do. Even so hardware tends to be a roadmap provided by the manufacturer, though it would be nice to see a complete list of manufacturers that might be developing new technologies with Skype.
The only dual SIP/Skype phone that comes to mind is the Grandstream GXV3140. If you are looking for a way of fusing SIP hardware with Skype (due to availability) you can see my reply on a similar topic in the link below:

Before my music on itunes kept getting all grayed out, so i got some help and turned on manually somthing, but now my ipod always says do not disconect! also, I just bought a song and it won't appear on my ipod, just my library. can n e 1 help? Posting a "me too" response to someone else's question, as you did with your first post, isn't the best way to get help with your problem. You really should start a new topic when you have a question. And we're all just your fellow users participating as we have time and knowledge, so sometimes it may take a while for someone to respond. No one here gets paid to help - we all have other tasks and lives to attend to - so have patience and most likely you'll get a reply fairly quickly.
Anyway, if you have the iPod options set to manage your playlist manually, you'll get the "do not disconnect" until you eject the iPod in iTunes. You'll also have to drag the song to the iPod's icon in iTunes to get it to copy. So try dragging the track to the iPod (in the iTunes Source list) and then eject the iPod. That should do it.

There's clearly something different about the iPhone's bluetooth capabilities than the other two phones. To say it's only Apple's or Toyota's problem isn't very helpful for anyone because, yes, Toyota should have designed Entune for full compatibility with iOS devices and, yes, Apple should have designed the iPhone to be at least as capable as the other phones wrt bluetooth.
I still don't know who to holler at.

Transitioning from G4 Panther to G5 Tiger with many issues. Icons, preferences lost. NON-Apple Programs crash. Printer problems. Who needs this? Is anyone important listening to these complaints. I am an original Apple owner from AppleIIE and finally wonder why I continue with these frustrations.
How do you make G5 Tiger RELATIVELY problem free as was the G4 Panther I had for 6 years until the display died??

I have to agree with Peter on the fact that I haven't had any problems with my Panther to Tiger upgrade.
Since this is a user to user forum, venting to us will not do you much good.
If on the other hand you wish to tell us about your problems, what hardware you are running it on and how you upgraded maybe we might be able to help you solve your problems.

For many years I was a Windows OS user, and I used Photoshop Elements 2. It was a little difficult to learn, but once I got the hang of it I thought it was great: simple, bright, easy and well organized. A few months ago I made the switch to Apple iMac Desktop, OSX Lion v. 10.7. I used iPhoto, but I really missed PSE. So I downloaded the trial version of PSE 10. What a disappointment.......It is a very good program I suppose, for advanced photographers, but it is no longer simple. The screens are too dark and there is too much crammed on to every screen in Organizer and Editor. The fonts are too small and the font colors do not stand out against the dark backgrounds. I wish Adobe had stuck with the white screens, large type and black fonts, but most of all I wish they had kept it simple like it was in earlier versions. I was looking for simplicity and ease-of-use, and I got what could be called "Almost Photoshop Full". I uninstalled Elements and will have to use iPhoto. I miss the days of KISS.

Yes adobe does read the forums but they don't always comment on everything and they are quite aware of the complaints about the ui colors and such in photoshop elements.
Hopefully the ui problem will be addressed in photoshop elements 11 in such a way that satisfies both those who like the dark interface and those who want a lighter interface

Does anyone read 'computer'? I need help!

I am having real problems with my G4 PPC! It crashes constantly, and freezes with a 'restart' message. I believe it has something to do with a kernal panic, at least that's what is says! I can't afford to upgrade right now, and I really don't want to go the Intel route (I might as well get a PC if I do that!) I have looked at the Crash Logs, but they might as well be written in Sanskrit! If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it.

Flash has always been and always will be an issue on PPC Macs.
The crashes, however, can wreak havoc on a hard drives directory.
A system drive that has been subject to many crashes without proper directory repair using Disk Utility or Disk Warrior can carry enough corruption to render a system unstable and cause kernel panics.
It sounds as if you have repaired the hard drive with the proper utilities.
I would stick to other system test with tech Tool, but leave hard drive repair to Disk Utility and Disk Warrior, the latter being the best.
Tech Tool is marginal for drive repair and can possibly harm drives, especially if defragmenting is used.
Testing RAM is also important, due to the fact that RAM is often the root of kernel panics.
Use Memtest X or Rember.
Use the AHT and Tech Tool to test video, logic board and processor.

Firefox 5 is running very very slow does anyone know what I can do to fix it?

I have FF ver. 5 and for about a week now it is taking way longer than normal to load any and all pages. I can't play any of my games because of how slow it is running. I'll click on a dropdown menu or something of the like like the "Tool's" menu and it will suck up so I'll have to push on it several more times before it will finally stay open and I can choose something. It also takes much longer for it to close down completely. Start up is running at normal for the most part. Every once in a while it will take a while to load and open.
I've done everything I know to do like clearing cookies and history to no avail. I've even run a virus scan which only came up with some tracking cookies, no viruses or anything like that.
I know about 3 days before this started happening I updated the Java stuff and that's it.
I'm at my wits end as I work on the internet for a living and this is making it very difficult and frustrating to get anything done.

If a representative from Apple would read these posts, doesn't it seem like all of us who are having the same problem (the iPod Mini not being recognized by iTunes 6.0.1) would have been fixed already? Check out the number of posts that ALL have to do with this same issue - going back at least a month. This HAS to be related to the most recent software version. Does anyone know of a way (other than calling customer support and being charged for the call) to contact Apple and let them know there is a widespread problem with the iPod Mini and the most recent version of iTunes?

I can't seem to get iTunes up and running on my PC and am not getting any reply - I get the strange message "The folder iTunes can not be found or created and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the My Music folder. From what I can tell it is there but am unable to get things connected and running even after a de-install / re-install of the software. Getting frustated now - anybody out there with a suggestion?

I have taken it back to the Apple store genius bar, but they say they don't see anything wrong. Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. But over time, some of my contacts have started showing up, although i am still missing over 800 of them.

Google "Apple phone number". Choose the correct number and call it.
If you have purchased an iPod you get one free support call - unless you buy the Apple Care extended plan, in which case you get calls for 2 years.
If you have not purchased an ipod, they will bill you, since iTunes is a free program, and they are not in the business of troubleshooting Windows systems.
Hope that makes sense. The Firefox browser is free and there's no phone number to call on that either, to make a comparison.
