Seriously need help right away
Alright, I've got the new 30gb 5G iPod, own it since last friday, and I'm very happy with it. Until now! I copied some .txt files into the notes folder, done it before and they all worked perfectly. I had it connected to my pc, using windows, a time and the battery was totally loaded and everything. When I disconnected it through iTunes, it came off and when it was disconnected and I just, as I always, and always did with my old mini, took the cable off calm, it started to make a noise. One contious beep tone, not the alarm clock beep but just one continous beep. So please help if you know something about this problem. The apple care in my country, Netherlands, is already closed so I can't call them. Please help. Thanks in advance
yeah, don't know specificly but try resetting your ipod center and menu, if that doesnt work (BACK UP YOUR DATA!!!) restore the ipod and if is still presists here are some ipod service providers

This is what I need to do:
Use dialog boxes to get first and last names of any number of people up to 12. Print the names in alphabetical order by (1) first name and (2) last name.
And this is what I have so far:
import javax.swing.JOptionPane;
public class NameSort {
public static void main(String[] args)
String name1;
String name2;
String name3;
String orderStr;
name1 = JOptionPane.showInputDialog
("Please enter the 1st name");
name2 = JOptionPane.showInputDialog
("Please enter the 2nd name");
name3 = JOptionPane.showInputDialog
("Please enter the 3rd name");
orderStr = "";
if (name1.compareTo(name2) >0)
orderStr = name1 +" " + name2+" " +name3;
else if (name1.compareTo(name3) >0)
orderStr = name3 +" " + name2+" " +name1;
else if (name2.compareTo(name3) >0)
orderStr = name1 +" " + name2+" " +name3;
else if (name2.compareTo(name1) >0)
orderStr = name1+" " + name2+" " +name3;
else if (name3.compareTo(name1) >0)
orderStr = name1 +" " + name2+" " +name3;
else if(name3.compareTo(name2) >0)
orderStr = name1 +" " + name2+" " +name3;
JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null,"The alphabetical order "
+ "of the names is: " + orderStr,
"Alphabetizing complete",
JOptionPane.INFORMATION_MESSAGE);
System.exit(0);
}There are a couple problems here:
1. How do I organize them alphabetically without doing 144 combinations in lines of code?
2. How do I get them to recognize the last names as well?
Someone said that an Array class would help, but I don't know how to do that exactly.
If someone could help, I'd appreciate it immensity.

Edited by: KingofBlades on May 18, 2008 4:25 PMWell, the reason I'm asking is this:
I took a Java class in the beginning of the year, and it was pretty easy and fun for the first few weeks. Then it got harder. I regret taking this class, because now I have no clue what I'm doing. I've managed to just barely pass the class, but this is the final project, worth 20% of our grade.
It's not that I didn't try, I really did. But I just couldn't get this stuff. By the time we got to the "return" function, I was completely lost.
What I was really hoping is that someone would be kind enough to do this for me.
I'm not going to sit here and make excuses becasue I don't have any. I simply do not understand Java no matter how hard I try to get it. This project has 4 parts to it, and I assure you I did the first 3 on my own, but I can't get this last one. I don't usually do this, but I just can't figure this stuff out. I need help. I don't know what else to say, I'd rather not cheat, but I'm not going to get this stuff any time soon, and I don't wanna fail the class, so I'm stuck.
So if anyone doesn't want to do it based on morals, I understand, but I don't know how I am going to fair in the class if I don't do this. So if anybody would be kind enough, would they please help? -

Seriously need help but cant get through via phone
I am seriously needing help spend almost all week chatting with verizon via my verizon however nobody could come up with an answer for my problem it seems that I have been locked out of using the online payment option and the lady says it does not show that on her end I need this addressed asap but the lines have been down for days according to the store I just spoke with. is there someone in finance or billing that could call me? I have several things I am trying to do 1. add an account manager 2. make a payment arrangement for a week out ( I normally do this as my payday falls odd) 3. gain access to online payments
Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. If the problem isn't solved, ask for further instructions.
1. Are the current date (including the year) and time shown on your system clock? If not, correct them and test.
2. Disable any third-party firewall, "security" software, or network filter.
3. In some versions of OS X, Parental Controls has a bug that prevents loading of secure websites. Turn it off.
4. The process by which OS X checks the validity of root SSL certificates doesn't work behind the authenticating SOCKS proxies used on some enterprise networks. If applicable, contact your network administrator. The proxy server may need to have its settings changed. -

Seriously Need Help With Lightbox Widget In Dreamweaver
Hi guys, I seriously need your help with this widget.
I'm not exactly new to Dreamweaver and I've been working on a particular website. Everything was going well until I dropped the Lightbox widget into the page.
Lightbox gallery displays, but opens images in a new window on its own. Here's an example;
http://imagesbylady.co.nz/photomike/HTML/promogallery.html
Yet, when I drop the widget into a completely separate page from the website, it works absolutely fine. Like here;
http://imagesbylady.co.nz/photomike/HTML/testing.html
I have exhausted this entire forum on the subject. I don't understand how the widget can work on a blank html page but when dropped into an already designed webpage, it breaks....!
If you need to have a look at the coding so you can help me further let me know. I've been on this for a total of 11 hours and I still can't figure out what the problem is. Seriously....i'm nearly close to tears! ;-(
If you could help me out I would be forever grateful.

I really need help with this! I have a valid Serial # for Adobe Acrobat XI and it shows on my account with Adobe. When I try to install on my new hard drive it says that the serial # is invalid.. I tried to install the free version to get me out of a jam and it keeps saying that it failed!!!! What can I do?
I am on Windows 7, and I was on Adobe.com. I went to downloads and clicked on Acrobat XI standard. It downloaded. But when I went to run it said Acrobat XI Pro and would not accept my serial number. I have done this now 4 times. I think that the system is downloading the wrong version. I am getting very frustrated and unhappy with Adobe!!!!

My computer got back from being upgraded from ME to XP. I plugged in my speakers (Boston) and installed Sound Blaster Li've! Value. After installation, I restarted, and the sound worked then. I tried logging on AOL, and the sound doesn't come up for the dialing. I then checked the Creative programs. My status?
Creative Playcenter-Opens, and in a split second, closes out.
Creative Recorder-Comes up with an error and closes. The error: "Recorder could not find the necessary hardware or drivers to execute properly. Make sure your hardware and drivers are set up correctly
SBL! Experience-Has sound
My grandpa told me that he found some sound on a joke he read. I don't understand this. Please help me. This is the informatiom on the subject
-Creative programs are messed up
-Sound doesn't work (even on shutting down now)
-Sound only worked twice, but work on Experience now
I really need help, since if I don't fix it, I'd either have to buy a new computer, or spend tons of money upgrading my old, dusty windows 98.Dwark,
Sounds like you need to uninstall all Creative Drivers and Programs/Utilities. Then download the uni-pack drivers from the Creative Support Downloads. The problems you are describing sound like the result of either outdated or mismatched drivers. You can not mix the old programs/utilities with the new uni-driver. You can kiss your Creative Recorder good-bye as Creative Labs has not seen fit to provide a new download for this app, only an upgrade, which is useless with the uni-pack. Also, don't be surprised if your Sound Blaster crackles and pops a little sometimes. This happened to me when I upgraded from Windows 98 to XP. It can be 'solved' by disabling sound hardware acceleration for whatever games/apps in which this problem occurs. There are patches for this problem if you have an VIA chipset motherboard(AMD processor). My advice? Since Creative has not seen fit to fix their SB Li've drivers under Windows XP, I will never buy another Creative product ever again. They suck.

-Options for when an iOS device gets locked because of forgotten password-
Restore (and reset password) on your device by connecting it to the last computer to which it was connected:
iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring iOS software - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you cannot connect it to the computer to which the device was last connected you will have to use recovery mode to completely reset the device, losing all data:
iOS: Unable to update or restore - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 - recovery mode (e.g., cannot connect to computer last used to sync device) -
i have a 4th generation 8gb and its stuck in recovery mode. I have tried everything i even got a new computer. When i try to recover it it has to do an update and when its done and error pops up. What do i do i seriously need help

I just now went to the internet to download some audio files. Really needed to listen to some and now all of a sudden get no sound from iTunes. Even the songs I have on saved playlists in iTunes will no longer give sound. The computer is showing that my audio is all the way to the top and the volume level on the downloaded files is also showing maximum volume. Why is this happening all of a sudden? I have version 11.0.1 iTunes. How do I fix this?
Went to call Tech Support and found out that the problem was in Apple/System Preferences/Sound/Sound Effects. Somehow the Internal microphone - built in was not selected. Was told that had to be selected in Sound Effects, Output, and Input. Output needed to have Internal speakers selected. Have no idea how I might have changed one of these selections. Anyway, that solved the problem. Thanks for the idea anyway, Limnos.

Seriously, why was the answers to the security questions entered incorrectly?
Hello 14609zyi,
If you are having issues with your security questions, see the following resource:
Apple ID: All about Apple ID security questions
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5665
What should I do if I don't remember the answers to my Apple ID security questions?
Try answering them at least once to see if you can get them right, even if you are not sure you remember the answers to your security questions.
If you are confident you can't remember them, try one of the following:
If you have three security questions and a rescue email address
- sign in to My Apple ID and select the Password and Security tab to send an email to your rescue email address to reset your security questions and answers.
If you have one security question and you know your Apple ID password
- sign in to My Apple ID and select the Password and Security tab to reset your security question.
If you have one security question, but don't remember your Apple ID password
- contact Apple Support for assistance. Learn more about creating a temporary support PIN to help Apple confirm your identity when you contact Apple Support.
If you do not see the option for resetting your questions with a rescue email address, see this excerpt:
Note: The option to send an email to reset your security questions and answers will not be available if a rescue email address is not provided. You will need to contact iTunes Store support in order to do so.

Please help me. This is a terrible situation. Last night, I was making a movie with iMovie and trying to find a way to export it that would be compatible with the item on which I am going to be displaying it (an Epson MovieMate via a USB Thumb Drive). I was SO frustrated that none of the formats iMovie could export in were compatible with the MovieMate, and also frustrated that the software I found to convert it from one of the iMovie formats to a format usable on MovieMate wouldn't convert the entire movie for free in its trial version, only half the movie.
Desperate for a solution, I was going through all the different ways iMovie could export, and I found it odd, but I found this jpeg one. Knowing that jpeg is a format for still photo files, it did strike me as odd, but I thought I would give it a try and see what would happen. After all, my "movie" is just one still photo with music playing for a half-hour. It said it would take over 40 minutes to create the "movie," so I went to bed.
To my shock, when I got up this morning, my computer was freaking out. It said that it had no more memory left or something like that, and prompted me to quit a bunch of open programs that weren't responding. I tried to do this, but it just wasn't handling things. Eventually the clock stopped progressing but I could still hear the processor working, so I just hoped it would work through the issue then snap out of it sort of, but instead, I eventually stopped hearing the processor sounds, and the cursor was also frozen. At this point I could see the whole computer was frozen, so I held down the power button for a few seconds to force the computer to turn off.
When I restarted it, it was trying to re-start all the applications I'd had open previously. After several minutes of trying to get it to quit all these things, it finally did, but nothing was displaying on my desktop yet. Normally there would be a HD disk image and a few folders. I had seen in a Finder window that there were tons of jpeg files supposedly on the desktop (where I had designated the file to save to), but I couldn't see how many. It never occurred to me that this is how iMovie would render things when I told it to save the project in jpeg format. I expected one jpeg file, not some tremendous and unknown amount.There may be hundreds or thousands if it created a jpeg for each "frame." Even if it created one jpeg file per second, that would be 1,800, and I suspect there's more than that. There could be several per second. Five per second would be 9,000 jpeg files. I hate to think but there may be a whole lot more than that even.
Finder continued to "think." I was never able to access it to do anything with it. There was a "stuck" Finder window which was displaying the Desktop folder, which is how I saw that there are multiple jpegs there. After a few minutes, I re-launched the Finder and was able to command it to not try to open a Finder window upon re-launch. After it re-launched, I could hear the processor working for a few more minutes. I think it obviously was working to display all the files on the desktop. The clock froze again, and the cursor movement was jumpy. Shortly, the cursor would not move anymore, and I could not hear the processor sounds anymore. The computer was frozen again. I held down the power button again to force it to shut down. When I re-started it, I logged into the Admin account (which I am using right now), which is the only way I think I can use my computer right now. I was also hoping I could access the files from the Admin account and just get them to display in a window so that I could delete them. I just want to delete them at this point. I wish I had never done this! I wish iMovie didn't even have that option or that iMovie would have explained to me what was going to happen if I were to proceed! I don't use my Admin account very often and wasn't really sure what it would be capable of doing. I can open a Finder window and access my Time Capsule, which contains something that looks like my hard drive image but when I double click on it, I get an error that says The following disk images could not be opened Macintosh.sparsebundle: Resource temporarily unavailable.
Anyway, please help! What do I do to get my computer back to normal??? I just want all those jpegs deleted and want to be able to log in and boot up like normal! This is a terrible situation as I use my computer for work and everything. I was needing to print some things for a presentation tonight. Please help me! Thank you!
Melanie
P.S. I just now got a Time Capsule backup message that came up and said Time Capsule could not complete its backup because Time Machine is unavailable! I am concerned this jpeg situation has gotten completely out of control and has gone beyond affecting my computer to also affecting my Time Machine!
(Also, additionally, assuming I can get my regular user account to boot up again at some point, if anybody happens to know how to get an iMovie file to save as .mpe, .mpg, .mpeg, .dat, or .vob, that information would be greatly appreciated.)It worked! Thank you! I finally just finished about 20 minutes ago! It took over 26 hours to complete the process you described, but I stuck with it and it worked. I am glad I didn't give up or "forget it" as some might have suggested. That would have set me back until tomorrow!
Ultimately, it turned out there were 45,910 jpgs created. No wonder it took so many hours to render/display them all. It ended up being about 10 hours before it seemed they were all rendered but the process between them displaying and being able to start really deleting them took a few hours because partly I was asleep and also partly it took forever to do anything. Any action as simple as selecting and right-clicking to Get Info, or emptying the trash, would take 20-30 minutes, a couple times longer. The clock stopped many times for 20-30 minutes at a time, a few times over 30 minutes, before catching back up. My cursor never froze which is what really kept me going, although it was a spinning beach ball for most of the time. I was never so relieved to see my regular cursor as opposed to seeing a spinning beach ball as I was early this morning after about 10 hours!
Once I was able to open a Finder window and select all 45,900 files (I had already deleted 10 in the previous couple hours during experimenting of trying to figure out what would work best), then right-click and select to move all the files to the trash, the process of moving them to the trash took 4.5 hours. Then deleting them from the trash took a couple minutes. There were 21.4 GB!!! No wonder the whole process took 26 hours!
mende1, thank you so much! -

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
