Seriously, what good is a Support Community that won't respond to a question?

I've started two discussions one a singular question and with approximately 50 views, not a single response.
Are there any people out there who actually answer questions?

Hello Saxon,
We strive to provide support though many channels and I am sorry that you have not been able to get the answer you were looking for. I have looked over your most recent post in an effort to help.
From the look of it, you are wanting to create two subnets on the RV042 and would like to be able to route between these two subnets while having access to the internet. If this is your intention, then yes the RV042 does provide the ability to do this through the use of vlans.
You will have to first create a new vlan for your second subnet. Once this has been done, you can edit the subnet to match the address range you want. You will want to ensure that the multiple subnet option is enabled as well.
I want to advise you now, that in order to support this configuration, you will have to have two separate networks OR all devices supporting vlans.
I do hope this answers your questions.

  • What good is this support vehicle if questions go unanswered....

I am very disappointed. I have been having problems installing SP3. At this point I can neither install or uninstall my original version or SP3. As suggested I posted my question 3 days ago on how to resolve this on this site with the understanding that it was monitored and that an SAP representative would reply.
The days have passed and still no reply and no program to use while the work piles up. "Disappointing" is not strong enough to describe my reaction. To sell a product, not provide basic support on installation, suggest a forum for support and leave it unmonitored and problems is absolutely cynical.

Albert, I think you've misunderstood the purpose of these forums. While you might have a question of such importance that a SAP person will pick it up (such as Marilyn), most of us members aren't SAP employees. We answer questions that we feel we can answer. And we post questions, in the hope that one of the other members will voluntarily help out.
For timely responses to issue, that SAP are responsible for, then OSS (or whatever it is called now)  is the route - But SAP hope you'll get the answer through these forums, because it's a lot cheaper for them
I've had problems to do with stuff I'm developing and had fantastic help from other members... but by no means can I ever demand such assistance.
I'm not in any way an SME for your problem. However, in the ABAP area, there are many questions we get that are fantastically important to the questioner, but have been answered many times, or are trivial. I'm not suggesting that yours are in this categorgy, but such questions are also unlikely to get good answers. The quality of questions is often reflected in the quality of the answers, as my sig used to run in SAPFans.

  • I have inserted a non supported CD that won't come out of the DVD player

How can I get the non-supported DVD to eject?  Nothing happens when I hit the eject button.

Actually, what I did after that didn't work, I found the eject "up-arrow" near the CD list. When I hit that it ejected!

  • Good headphones for vigorous workouts, that won't fall out?

I've found the earbuds the Shuffle came with to be a little small as it is, and while at the gym on an elliptical or whatnot, they tend to need to be frequently pressed back in or they fall out.
Any recommendation on something that might fit better/be less prone to falling out? Looking at the ratings on headphones in the Apple store, all of them seem to vary widely from "they're great" to "they break five minutes after you put them on."
I suggested to Consumer Reports that they rate headphones, and got a thank you from them for the suggestion, but supposing they do an article on it, it wouldn't be for some time. Perhaps there are other magazines that have done ratings?
    Thanks,

The in-ear type fits more snugly and so doesn't fall out as easily. Due to the snug fit, it blocks outside sound better and sounds MUCH better than the terrible headphones the iPod comes with.
These are the ones I use. Apple sells some too.
However, they might still fall out with vigorous exercise. They work pretty well on my walks though.

  • HT4061 How do I restore my iphone 4? Whilst updating to new software my computer crashed. This has left me with a phone that won't respond at all and itunes says 'restore your phone'. I can't press anything without getting a picture of a usb. not useful.

My computer crashed while updating my iphone 4.
My phone now will not respond other than a USB symbol to itunes.
When I plug into itunes it says 'reset your phone'.
I've tried holding the on/off and home button together, nothing.
On another note, it isn't possible to schedule into a shop in London until a week today. There is something seriously wrong with this picture.
    Any help would be awesome.
    Thanks

    1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.
above works for purchases from the iTunes store. for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer.

  • How do I add my products to my Community emails when I respond to a question

Can anyone tell me how to automatically add my Apple products to my community emails, I'm usually resonding?  I have them set-up in my profile.

To add your device when you reply, select “Use advanced editor” at the top right of the text box

  • Safari browser version you are running does not support community tool bar. what's that mean and where is it coming from or how do I get rid of it ?

I keep getting the message "Safari browser version you are useing does not support community tool bar." Where is this coming from and how do I get rid of it ?

That toolbar/ct plugin causes problems for all who install it!
Close Safari, then locate and delete the following files and it should be gone:
    /Library/Application Support/Conduit
    /Library/InputManagers/CTLoader
    /Library/Receipts/ctloader.pkg
    /Library/Receipts/<Toolbar name>.pkg
    /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/CT2285220.bundle
    /Users/<User name>/Library/Application Support/Conduit
where / is the root library on your Hard Disk.
If you are running Snow Leopard you should also look here:
    Library/launchAgents/com.conduit.loader.agent.plist
    Library/Application support/conduit plugins
Note: Safari does not support any third-party toolbars except those supplied as an extension to Safari via the Extension Gallery.

  • IPhone 2.0 Unusable - What I'd tell Support if they accepted communication

I have been very dissatisfied with the iPhone 2.0 rollout. Far from motivating me to decide to get a 3g despite their not being a larger capacity phone available, it has actually made me substantially less happy with my iPhone.
I was used to software crashing, the phone rebooting, programs freezing, etc. and I dealt with this quite well. My dissatisfaction began on Friday when my phone suddenly blinked a bright white, popped off and rebooted. Once it was rebooted, none of my 3rd party apps would load and the iPod declared that it had no content. I tried hard reboots, turning it off and on, and more all to no avail. A hassle, but I figured I could deal with it because I could restore it when I got home.
Despite the time required, I had consistently let my phone do a complete sync including a backup daily, so I anticipated that I’d have a bit of a hassle and then I’d be back on track. Well, I was able to restore the phone, but it got into a restore loop where it always asked me at the end if I’d like to restore my phone from a backup since an iPhone had been attached before. I finally told it to make it a new phone and it seemed fine.
Then I tried using my phone again. Loaded a note app, made one note, closed it and then tried to open a quick game. Instead of loading, the game popped back to the home screen a few seconds into its load process. I was starting to be agitated at this point. I again tried all the tricks and superstitious behaviors that are suggested as ways to fix this including resetting all settings and deleting all the apps from the iPhone. No luck. I was out of time, so I was just stuck with an iPhone that not only couldn’t play apps, which apple had already received payment for, but one that didn’t even have an iPod!
I next tried setting the phone up as an entirely new phone rather than doing anything with my backups. I only synced the two apps that I really use and began using the phone. After I read a few pages in an ebook that I’d bought from Apple, I tried to load a different app and you know it: the same problem. Changed software from 2.0 to 2.0.1; same outcome.
At this point I thought perhaps I was doing something wrong, so I scheduled an appointment with the Mac guy at the Apple store, in case it was something I was doing with iTunes, and an appointment with the iPhone guy at the Apple store. Spent an hour with them and while they were nice in that they acknowledged that my situation was upsetting, there was nothing they could do. They reset my phone back to an entirely new iPhone, recommended that I not sync MobileMe to the phone and wished me luck. You might have already guessed the outcome: my phone won’t work right now again.
I really feel this is unacceptable. If the software wasn’t ready for use and didn’t have a way to reset it, Apple shouldn’t have taken the course of action that they did. At minimum, they should have only made free applications available until the software was more stable so they didn’t have people who paid for apps that they have absolutely no way to use (I can’t even load them on my mac as a sad substitute). Perhaps they could have declared it to be a public beta. I’ve only spend $23.98 on apps, but I imagine there are people who have spent hundreds of dollars on apps and should be irate that they can’t use them.
Also, if you’re going to make complete resets such a common thing, providing a tool that allowed users to organize their homepages on their Mac would be a good thing. Or at least allowed us to change the names of the apps so that when iTunes put them on in automatic alphabetic order, they’d be closer to what we want.
I’m honestly not sure what I want. First and foremost, I want some sort of communication that makes it clear that Apple first knows that the problem exists and more importantly, recognizes that the situation of being unable to use apps or the iPod is not a good thing and acknowledges that my situation is negative. I would like to see action, but that acknowledgment is what I would like to see as an absolute.
If someone could help those of us with this error, from what I’ve read it’s easy to recognize because the iPod claims to have no music while iTunes says it does and the media that should be in the iPod is taking up the appropriate space on the hard drive, that would be a nice thing. An official request that we provide our crashlogs perhaps? Along with a list of the apps that are installed to help insure that it’s not some app causing this problem.
What is the official Apple policy about apps? Is there a maximum number or size that you recommend running? Is there some procedure that I don’t know about? I’ve checked at least daily for updates and updated my apps if there were any available, so I really feel like I’ve held up my end of the deal.
Ok. So I’ve been rational and calm and explained the issue. Now, I would like to take a final moment to convey to you the irritation and anger that I am feeling as a result of this situation. I am unhappy. I have spent at least 14 hours dealing with this since Friday plus hours that my macbook and my phone were working away without needing my direct supervision including almost a dozen restore/resets of the phone, yet I’ve had at most an hour of time that I could use my apps. This is wrong.
Tell me what to do to allow me to use my apps and I will appreciate it. I can even deal with a daily restore of my phone if that would result in the apps working for at least part of a day, but it doesn’t.
Based on the company’s policies and beliefs, is this wrong? Does my experience not reflect what the Apple experience should be? I hope that this is the case and that I receive a response that demonstrates this because I believe Apple is better. I actually had such a positive experience throughout the first year of the iPhone that I broke down and decided to buy a Macbook Pro at the beginning of July. That has been a positive experience as well, so I hope that this iPhone problem is proven to be an anomaly and is acknowledged and addressed promptly.
I know that the software for the iPhones and the apps are only a small part of your work with iTunes, but it does have a significant effect upon end users. Thanks for all your hard work in all the other aspects of iTunes including functionality, flexibility, appearance and content. It really is a quality product and I want to make sure that you don’t interpret my extreme displeasure with this one area of iTunes as slamming the product as a whole.
I anticipate an acknowledgement of my hardship along with communication outlining a method to rectify the situation.

You will not get a reply from Apple in these forums. As stated in the information to which we all agreed when we signed up here, these forums are for user-to-user assistance, not for getting technical assistance from Apple. All you will get here is suggestions and commiseration from we your fellow users. If you want to express your displeasure directly to Apple, call the tech support line and ask to speak with Customer Relations and see if there's anything they can do for you. Please keep in mind that the CR rep will not have caused your problems, so keep your calm and be polite; they're just working stiffs too.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can install the new hard disk yourself if you want to. You just need a 2'5" SATA II hard drive, which is compatible with your MacBook Pro. You can buy one at OWC > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/ You can filter hard drives by computer, so press a "Click to view all...", choose your computer in the sidebar and it will give you the compatible hard drives.
There are different brands for the MacBook Pro. The most recommended are HGST and Seagate, which have good reputation. A 7200 rpm hard drive will give you extra performance

  • How can I delete the first question, which is still there, that I ever asked in this community support, and that I have already had answered.

The asking of questions and responding to answers on the support pages is a bit more complicated than I think it should be. The first question I ever asked was answered by a community member, but when I go to ask other questions, that first question is still there. Somehow I bypass that at times and get another question in, as right now. But why does that first question remain? I thought I said in the answers that my question had been answered, and replied to the person who answered it with my thanks.

    Hi Ideato:
I was not talking about the questions that are in the question and answer section. I mean the question that I keyed in when asked for a summary of my question in one sentence, before it ever gets posted. You are right, of course, that questions and answers from someone else can be helpful to a lot of people.

  • What is the latest MAC OSX that my Macbook 2,1 can support?

What is the latest MAC OSX that my Macbook 2,1 can support?  It came with 10.4.11Lion.
I am upgrading my harddrive and would love to install the most current OS that I possibly can.
I also have a Macbook 3,1 with OSX 10.5.8 Leopard that I want to do the same with.  If they can both run the same OSX that would be helpful too.
    Thanks a MILLION!

Both of those MacBooks can run up to 10.7 Lion. (10.4.11 is Tiger) It's the RAM that you'll need to upgrade.
First you'll need to upgrade to 10.6 Snow Leopard.  The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. After you’ve installed that then download the 10.6.8 combo updater to finish it off. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399 You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion, http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    System Requirements for 10.6:
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible internet service provider: fees may apply.
You can put two 2gb RAM sticks in your model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3_GB_barrier
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/faq/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-3-g b-memory-limitation-details.html
OWC tests have found that there is a slight speed increase with having two 2gb sticks in rather than one 1gb and one 2gb. Your model is in the gray lines at the bottom of the graph. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/Memory_Benchmark/Apple_MacBook/
You can upgrade from 10.4 straight to 10.6 with no problems as long as you have at least 1gb of RAM. Any program that runs under 10.4 should run under10.6. See this list for third party programs compatibility with 10.6: http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/  You might have to upgrade some drivers for printers, etc.... And you will have to install Rosetta if you have any Power PC applications
    http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/snow_leopard_installing_rosetta/
I recently upgraded an older MacBook (Early 2006 model 1,1) straight from 10.4 to 10.6.
Once you are at 10.6.8 Lion is still available from Apple. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. to purchase it. Then within 3 days you will get an email with a code which you can use to download Lion from the App Store. Or go to http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion and purchase it there. The price is $19.99.
You must have at least a Late 2006 model 2,1 MacBook.
Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.
As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.7 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.
