Server 2008 - how to validate the backup will restore in an emergency

So you have server 2008 backup regularly backing up to a set of rotated USB drives...and the alternate(s) are safely stored (offsite or firesafe)
How do you confirm the backup will restore when you need it?  Guaranteed (if the drive is readable the restore will produce a working server)
There are no ECC codes on the backup that I know of.  I regularly restore random large zip files from the backups (to alternate folders) and check their ZIP check sums (thus the contents are good for that one file), but do I know the restore of the
system files and most importantly the exchange database will work?
I would prefer to have a piece of software validate the drive rather than getting alternate test hardware and trying to restore every 6 months.  How many small companies can buy a test restore server just to validate the backup?
Some concerns...I've read other articles that mention that if de-fragmentation is run on the server drives that the next stored backup may well trash earlier backed up files, does that mean only the most recent backup is valid (and again how to validate
it)?

Since you are in the SBS forum, we'll assume that you're using SBS 2008 and the built in backup
Unfortunately short of restoring to other hardware...and occasionally restoring files...thats about all the checks you get
So you need something more robust.
My suggestion is StorageCraft  SBS Edition
http://www.storagecraft.com/shadow_protect_SBS.php
Provides verification and re-verification...plus lots of other tools

  • HT5096 how about copying the backup to a server instead of a hard drive?

how about copying the backup to a server instead of a hard drive? Doesn't seem to work.

ISP's cap your upload speed to a fraction of your download so you don't run a server off your computer.
You can certainly spend more money to upload faster, but it's a waste of money and the data online can vanish or be held or spied upon.
Then there is a prolem that you want to restore your system and there is slow Internet.
Apple now requires fresh OS X installs to come from them online, it's better to have local drive to boot from anytime, so a bootable clone is ideal, better than TimeMachine which is only a backup system

Hello, here is a novelty: SQL Server 2008 Express R2 exceeds the storage capacity of Oracle XE, XE you still limited to 4GB of data from, the competition gets better and offers a bit more, XE remains the same, hopefully Oracle 11g XE exceeds storage and memory to SQL Server.

Yes, I do good work is correct, I have not thought to migrate from Oracle XE to SQL Server Express because it could not work with the flexibility of PL / SQL and other Oracle features own, however, SQL Server 2008 R2 Express if takes the lead XE in storage, at which Oracle Corp. will match or exceed, offer more storage in response to competition and not only compensate for the limitation of 4GB with Excellency good features.

Now, I understand how the backup and restore the backup features function. However, if I don't want to transfer the music that I have on iTunes to my phone, how do I avoid it? How do I not transfer the music or take it out of my iPhone if it is already there? I really do not want any music on my iPhone because I have an iPod for that. Thanks. Hope someone can help.

When you connect your phone and start iTunes on the left side you will see your phone listed under devices.Click on te icon next to it that looks like a battery. Click on the music button at the top and uncheck the sync music box.

  • How to stop the backup process....

How to stop the backup process....
Okay, so it happens nearly everytime you synch your iPhone with your iTunes? Easy. As soon as it starts, hit the "X" in the bar where the backup process is being shown, this does NOT STOP the synching process, ONLY the backup process.
HOWEVER, keep in mind that a few times during the week (depends how often you synch ur iPhone) it will be good to let the backup process let run fully.
    There we go. Problem solved...

i agree its what i do i backup whenever i add a new app, or take more pics etc its exactly what i do its what ive been saying on all these threads talking about backups etc, im hoping in 2.0.1 will be bug fixes about this sort of thing...

    If :quentity <0 then
    message('do not enter negative value');

    Access

You could also check to see if the following infrastructure components are running:
    1. repository database - sid = iasdb
    2. repository network listener - port 1521
    3. infra http server - default port - 7777
    4. oracle internet directory - default port 4032 (389 windows)
    5. oc4j_das component - dcmctl getstate -v -d OC$J_DAS

  • Server Admin - How current is the data?

    Good afternoon.
When I view the DHCP data in Server Admin, how current is the data? When I close down workstations and logon others, the data displayed, even after multiple refreshes, does not change. A quit & relaunch doesn't update the data either.
Can I rely on Server Admin to provide a current, accurate view?
    Brian Bowell

    Hamilton New Zealand.

I'm not sure of the frequency at which Server Admin re-polls the data, but nothing is cached so at the very least each time you connect to a server you're seeing data that's valid up until then.
However, in the case of DHCP you need to consider lease duration.
If your lease is set to something like 3 days then any given client will remain in the DHCP leases list for that long.
In other words, assuming you have one DHCP client on your network and that machine boots on Monday Afternoon, then that machine will appear in the DHCP leases list until at least some time on Thursday afternoon. The number of leases will not decrease when the machine shuts down on Tuesday, nor increase if that machine comes back online before the original lease expiration (it will just be re-issued the same DHCP lease/IP address/etc.). Therefore your lease counter will remain at 1 even when the machine is offline.
Is it possible that accounts for what you're experiencing? The number of leases does not reflect the number of active DHCP clients on your network, just the number that have been active within the last (lease duration) hours.

  • How to Validate the Fileds in LSMW - In step 6.   Maintain Fixed Values, T

    Hi
How to validate the fileds in the LSMW in the step
6 Maintain Fixed Values, Translations, User-Defined Routnes.
In this step how to i validate the fileds.
    Please help.
    Regards
    Gangi

    Hi,
You can validate the fields in the LSMW in field mapping section .
For example you are loading the BOM using LSMW and you want to validate those material numbers which do not exist in the material master .
For this purpose write a select statement to check the materials existence like below :
    select single matnr into v_matnr
    from mara
    where matnr = source-matnr .
    if sy-subrc <> 0.
skip_record. " this statement will skip the record .
    endif.
To get such statements to handle the records withing LSMW during data transfer .Go to the field mapping step , there in abap conversion routine step
go to ' INSERT' -> 'GLOBAL FUNCTIONS' -> ( then a pop will open offering various function options for your requirement. ) In fact SKIP_RECORD is also available there .
    reward if it helps...
    Regards,
    Omkar.

  • How to access the backup of ipod touch

I recently updated the software on my 2G iPod touch.  I performed a backup but none of the music will restore no matter how many times I attempt to restore it.  Can anyone help?

Synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup. See:
    iTunes: About iOS backups
You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
For other music yo will have to get it from where you obtained it before.

    module date_validation.
    ENDCHAIN.

WHAT CODE I have to write here to validate ?
and If I write like this How can we know which is the current row being add ?
It loops total internal table ..?
    Bye,
    Muttu.

    Hi,
I think there is no need to put chain endchain.
To do validation you have to write module in PAI which does required validations.
