Server 2008 R2 Certificate services web enrollment

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but here goes.
Upgraded a domain to 2008 R2. Migrated certificate services to 2008 R2 Enterprise root on a member server.
Autoenrollment works fine
Requesting cert from the MMC using certificates snapin works fine
Requesting a cert via the web https://servername/certsrv gets the following error;
Active Directory Certificate Services denied request 12345 because the request subject name is
invalid or too long 0x80094001 (-2146877439)
Error constructing or publiching certificate.
I created a new cert template and did NOT check use Active Directory for subject name as templates with this checked
do not show up in the web enrollment interface.
I have enabled this template for enrollment and gave users rights to enroll.
They are clicking advanced in the web interface as they want a computer cert.
For the subject name, they enter computername.domain.local
Based on searches I've done on the InterWeb, permissions APPEAR to be correct.
Again, Autoenroll and MMC work just fine. Appears to be confined to only web.

They are clicking advanced in the web interface as they want a computer cert.
For the subject name, they enter computername.domain.local
Be aware that the web enrollment pages does not support computer certificates and you need to issue the certificate to the user and import it to the computer store

  • SQL SERVER 2008 R2 Analysis Services

    Hi
We have a SQL Server 2008 R2 Analysis Services and it was running fine but suddenly its not processing the cube. I have checked log the file msmdsrv.log and there its continuously logging the following error message.
Message: The file '\\?\C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSAS10_50.MSSQLSERVER\OLAP\Data\TRCOLAP.0.db\Fact SL Financial Transaction.0.dim\466.SL Journal Type.kstore' could not be opened. Please check the file for permissions or see if other applications

Would really appreciate help in this regard. It our production box
    Thanks

    Hi Inazakat,
According to your description, your SQL Server Analysis Services database cannot be processed that can be processed without any problems before, right?
Based on the message, file could not be opened. Please check the file for permissions or see if other applications locked it. It seems that the file is corrupt. This issue can be caused by that the file was deleted by antivirus. You can go to the corresponding
folder and check if this file exist or not. If this file was deleted or corrupt, you can open the original project on BIDS, and redeploy it to your server. And then process this database.

  • Does Safari run in Windows Server 2008 R2 (Terminal Services)?

does Safari run in Windows Server 2008 R2 (Terminal Services)?

    Hi Jess,
Here are two things I suggest you check:
The Monitoring interval is set to 900 minutes, would the profile size get reduced after 15 hours and run
    gpupdate/force?
Since the Sessenv.dll version is higher than the ones described in KB 2575946, the issue is supposed to be fixed. I suggest you run System File Checker to scan all protected system files.
In addition, you can also collect Gpsvc.log to determine if policies are applied successfully.

  • Certificate template based on Server Authentication not showing in Web Enrollment

    Hi,
I have a test lab with a certificate authority and web enrollment on the same servers. I have made a certificate template with all permissions (read, enroll, etc etc) set to "authenticated users".
However, when I go certificate enrollment and choose advanced deployment, I do not see this cert template (which is set to be publish in AD).
I've given the CA machine account full access to the cert template (read/enroll/auto-enroll, etc)
I've started IE with "run as administrator" even though my logged on user is a domain admin and thus local admin on the server
Selected Supply in the request in the certificate.
    Please advise

After you created the template, did you add it to the CA? (right click Templates folder/New/Template to issue)
You mentioned the template was "set to be publish in AD". Hopefully you dont mean the checkbox on the template itself that says "Publish to Active Directory". This means the public key will be published to AD when a certificate based
on this template is issued. This will bloat your AD database overtime. All templates you create are automatically stored in AD. Be careful when using this checkbox.

  • Certificate Authority Web Enrollment - CSP states loading

    Hello,
I have setup an enterprise sub CA (the root is offline).
I have been able to issue certificates, but I did not have the Web Service, Policy Web Service or the Web Enrollment turned on.
I turned them on yesterday and when I visit the website, when I click Create and submit a request to this CA it takes to the next page where I can request a certificate.  I created a duplicate template for the User Certificate and made it available.
I see it in the drop down, however under key options, CSP just says loading. I went to this site:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939290 and followed the instructions, Active Scripting is enabled and it still
    continues to state loading.
I am at a complete loss as to what the problem might be. Event logs on CA server are clean, no errors or warning.
    Any suggestions?
Update: I tried to get to the site from the actual CA server and it displays the The Web site is attempting to perform a digital certificate operation on your behalf, etc...
    And it populated the CSP.
I tried it from another server and it worked.
I tried it from another workstation and it shows loading in the CSP.
Has anyone run into this issue?

    Hi,
As this works on one of your servers, whether all your workstation have this issue?
Certificate Enrollment Web Services client computers must be computers running at least Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 operating systems. To utilize key-based renewal, client computers must be running at least Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012 operating
    systems.

  • Attribute field in 2008 R2 AD CS Web Enrollment - Obsolete?

Is the Attributes field in AD CS Web Enrollment now obsolete?
I have implemented a Windows 2008 R2 two tier PKI infrastructure at my organization for some time now. We are just now rolling it out to our general populace. As such, I am tasked with coming up with an instructional presentation for less knowledgeable
users. I have found that I cannot use the Attributes field on the Web Enrollment page for requesting SAN certificates.
I read the documentation from Microsoft located at:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff625722(v=ws.10).aspx#BKMK_MakeSanExt .
I can see that in order to request a SAN cert via certreq and .inf file, I must use the [Extensions] section rather than the [RequestAttributes] section. This works when using and INF file. When using the Attributes field in Web Enrollment, my certificate
can be issued but the SAN is not present in the resulting certificate. I used the makeSanExtension.vbs script as mentioned in the above site and create the ANSI1 formatted extension then copied it into the Attributes field in Web Enrollment
and viewed the Binary certificate request in ADCS and the
    SAN is not even listed.
So, is there a way to request a SAN via that field? Are there other attributes that may be requested via this field?
Below is what I read from the site mentioned above:
    [Extensions]
; If your client operating system is Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Vista, or Windows 7
; SANs can be included in the Extensions section by using the following text format. Note 2.5.29.17 is the OID for a SAN extension.

; SANs can be included in the Extensions section only by adding Base64-encoded text containing the alternative names in ASN.1 format.
; Use the provided script MakeSanExt.vbs to generate a SAN extension in this format.

    [RequestAttributes]
; If your client operating system is Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, or Windows XP
; and you are using a standalone CA, SANs can be included in the RequestAttributes
; section by using the following text format.
    SAN="dns=www01.fabrikam.com&dns=www.fabrikam.com&ipaddress=172.31.10.130"
    Thanks for the response.

You're reading the documentation incorrectly. That script is only required if you're going to use an INF file for the request. If you're going to use the web enrollment pages (which is
not recommended as per the security warnings in the article) you need to enter something like the following in that section:
    san:dns=corpdc1.fabrikam.com&dns=ldap.fabrikam.com
This example will register two SANs. Multiple SANs, if required, are separated with an &.
From a security perspective I would strongly suggest that you forget about using the web enrollment and instead document how to use the Certificates MMC console.

SMB Digital Signing is enabled by default on Domain Controllers - I'll double check, but don't believe it is enabled across ALL 2008 Server, but it would be worth checking.
Digital Signing is designed to prevent man in the middle attacks - which is precisely what WAAS is doing
Turning it of generally improves speed by around 20% even without WAAS, and lets WAAS use full DRE and the CIFS adapter to cache files.
Any problems, just raise a TAC case and my boys will help you out
Edit: Link from MS which discusses it in more detail and how to turn off:
    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=887429
According to that, it's NOT enabled across the board in 2008, just on the DC's.
My company uses waas, as you can see above whenever i try to do the implementation waas is giving me the following message "pt in ad error"for all the connections that will be compatible with windows, I did some research and what's above has to do with the digital windows certificate which waas is struggling to open due to the code encrypted in the certificate. do you happen to have a way of enabling the certificate within the module. another option would be to disable the certificate in windows server 2008?

    Thiago,
PT AD Int Error has nothing to do with SMB digital signatures.  PT AD Int error means TFO auto-discovery failed and could not negotiate an optimized flow; this is during the TCP 3-way handshake before digital signatures even come into play
A common reason for PT AD Int Error status is another device in the path before WAAS has filled up the TCP options field with other data, thus leaving no room for WAAS to put it's TCP opt 0x21.
Once you resolve the PT AD Int Error problem and a CIFS AO negotiated policy occurs, if the server/client require digital signatures then you will see the connection as T,G,D,L or T,G (meaning Generic AO).
If digital signatures are not required the CIFS connections will show as T,C,D,L.
I suggest you take packet captures on both client and server side WAEs to see how SYN and SYN-ACK packets are reaching the WAE and see if the options field is filed with data before reaching the WAE.
If this is part of a WAAS PoC/ Demo feel free to open a case with the PDI team.
    http://www.cisco.com/web/partners/tools/pdi.html
Otherwise, if this is in production please open a case with TAC.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 DNS service issue with BitLocker

I recently installed BitLocker on a Windows Server 2008 Platform. I did not encrypt the boot partition because the server hardware BIOS did not have the necessary requirements to encrypt the system drive.
The Server roles are ADSM, DC and File Server. For DC operation I am also running the DNS service.
When I installed the DNS role I was prompted to install the Log files on a different volume than the OS. I did this, but unfortunately, it was the same volume that was encrypted.
Since I could not encrypt the system disk, the encrypted volume must be unlocked via password in order to mount. Here in lise my problem.
When I do a full reboot of the server, I get to the point in the boot process where my mouse is visible and operational (this would be just before the Windows OS logo displays, I believe), then the server reboots. On the next boot up I am given the diagonstics
and recovery dialog because the OS failed to boot.
I believe the failure is the DNS service trying to launch, but because the log files are on the encrypted drive and it has not been unlocked, the system sees this as a security problem and reboots
Does this make sense? If it does, is there a way to boot 2008 R2 with the DNS service disabled, say with the original install disk in recovery mode?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this system cannot be booted in its current state.
    Peter C. Hesse Network/Systems Administrator

    Hi,
I believe you mean the Active Directory Logs not the DNS logs, because these are necessary to startup a domain controller, because the AD database depends on these logs.
So if you have AD logs on a different partition and that is encrypted with Bitlocker you could probably automatically unlock it.
So you did not encrypt OS partition because the server does not have a TPM fully compliant chip ?
    manage-bde /?
    manage-bde -autounlock -enable Driveletter:
But you have to be able to boot server normal mode I am not sure if the command can be used in DSRM mode.

  • Unable to install SCCM client on Windows Server 2008 R2 - certificate permission error?

I am trying to comply with corporate policy, which is, have an SCCM agent or client on every Windows device. I have successfully used the provided SCCM installer on other Windows 2008 R2 servers. However for one particular server I cannot get the SCCM agent
to install successfully. I've searched forums and documentation, but can't find a solution. Part of the problem is the lack of feedback by SCCM on what is wrong. I think I have narrowed down the symptom to the following error messages from the "C:\Windows\CCM\Logs\ClientIDManagerStartup.log":
[LOG[Certificate [Thumbprint C559304C1598F17641D0732EB9EB787169A25FA7] issued to 'SMS' doesn't have private key or caller doesn't have access to private key.

When I use the Certificates MMC snap in to look at installed certs on this Windows Server 2008 R2 machine, there are plenty of normal and expected certificates there. There is also a branch called SMS with hundreds of entries, I have no idea what that is.
The above error seems to indicate a permissions issue. What do I do to fix this SCCM install? It seems like a server cert issue, not an SCCM issue, so I'm posting to the Windows Server forums.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Windows Server 2008 (TS) and Lync Web App installation failure

    Hey folks,
I've run into a little big problem due the Lync Web App installation via mstsc on a stand alone Terminal Server 2008 SP2 64 Bit. When I tried to install the Lync Web App Plugin via
mstsc and standard user I get the message:
    "The system administrator has
set up a policy that the installation
    prevents"
    Till that it's just fine.
The next thing I did is to disable the UAC and DEP, but same problem as above. I also tried to extract the install EXE for the MSI packages to allow the installation. But did not work.
After I searched the internet for an answer relating to this problem I've had to create or change a RegEdit entry. So I switched to the registry to:
    HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer
and created a DWORD entry DisableMSI and set it to 0. Then I tried the installation of Lync Web App Plugin via
mstsc and standard user again and this message appeared:
"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2755"
Now the curious thing is, that when I am logged on locally, the standard user is able to install the Lync Web App Plugin. And it works fine. After the installation is complete I can switch to mstsc again and it works.
The only thing what doesn't work is to install Lync Web App Plugin via mstsc into the user profile.
    Any suggestions?

Before you install the application, change your user mode to installation mode.
You can run the following command with Prompt Command:
    Change user /install
After the application is installed, change back to execution mode, you can do so by running the following command:
    Change User /Execute

Instead of installing SQL server instance you selected add node which is to be selected when SQL server installation is to be made on Node which is being added to cluster. Since your OS is not clustered I am sure you selected worng option.
Please right click on setup file and select run as administrator. Now installation window which pops up on that on left hand side select
installation and then on page that appears select 'New server standalone installation or add feature to existing installation'.
You already have SQL server 2008 installed on your machine as per feature discovery report

  • Best practices to share 4 printers on small network running Server 2008 R2 Standard (service pack 1)

    Hello,
I'm a new IT admin at a small company (10-12 PCs running Windows 7 or 8) which has 4 printers. I'd like to install the printers either connected to the server or as wireless printers (1 is old enough to require
a USB connection to a PC, no network capability), such that every PC has access to each printer.
Don't worry about the USB printer - I know it's not the best way to share a printer, but it's not a critical printer; I just want it available when its PC is on.
I've read a lot about the best way to set up printers, including stuff about group policy and print server, but I am not a network administrator, and I don't really understand any of it. I'd just like to install
the drivers on the server or something, and then share them. Right now all the printers do something a little different: one is on a WSD port, two has a little "shared" icon, one has the icon but also a "network" icon... it's very confusing.
Can anyone help me with a basic setup that I can do for each printer?
p.s. they all have a reserved IP address.
    Thanks,
    Laura

may need to set print server... maybe helpful.
