Server 2008 R2 Terminal Server c0000005 and c0000006 errors with KERNELBASE.dll error in RDP sessions.

We installed a new Server 2008 R2 server this spring. It is configured as a Terminal Server with 16 Wyse t10 thin clients connecting with RDP. We are a small resort so we run Springer Miller Host and SpaSoft. Ever since moving from PCs to the thin clients
and TS we have been seeing SpaSoft randomly crash with KERNELBASE.dll errors and also a lot of c0000005 and c0000006 errors. Springer Miller support says its a Microsoft Networking issue so no help there. The company we worked with to install this has no clue
so I hope to reach out to this community to solve this. I can also open support case with Microsoft Support but I am not sure if they will be of any help. Here are some examples of the errors:

There are no network specific errors in any of the logs. I am thinking that SpaSoft needs to be run as an administrator but I am not sure how to do that in this environment. We have disabled DEP for all but essential Windows processes. All of the firewall
and AV has been completely disabled, and still getting these errors. Is there a way to run these applications as admin without the user actually being an admin? Should I go ahead and open a Microsoft support case? Thanks

  • Windows Search Service failing to install on Windows Server 2008 R2 Terminal Server

    Hi,
I am unable to install the Windows Search Service on a Server 2008 R2 Terminal Server. I want to install this to enable indexing options within Outlook 2013 for all users.
Server Manager > Add Roles > File Services > Select only Windows Search Service > Install.
The error I receive: "Attempt to configure Windows Search Service failed with error code 0x80070057. The parameter is incorrect."
    Thanks,

    Hi,
I did the test and could install the Windows Search Service without problem.
Which role did you installed on the terminal server?
Did you try to install it on another windows server?

  • Word 2010 - "Connecting to printer" message when opening documents at Server 2008 R2 Terminal server

Our users experience sometimes the message "connecting to printer" while they open a document in Word 2010 (32-bit) on our Server 2008 R2 Terminal Server. This is behavior
isn't consequent but random. The default printer in this environment is a Net2Printer-printerdriver (1.16) which redirects the print jobs (in PDF-format) to the local client's default printer. This feature works well. We don't want to change the default printer
because this is the right one to use by our users.
After a long seeking trip on the internet I've found the Microsoft hotfix KB974991 which can fix this issue for Word 2007. My question is, is this also usable for Word
2010 (32-bit) and if not, is there maybe another fix for the 2010 version available?
Any other suggestions or workarounds are welcome!

    Hi,
Please change following options test if it works:
    Ÿ
    Print proofs quickly
Enable the Draft output option. When you use this option, the document prints with minimal formatting. Therefore, the document
may print faster. This option is ideal for printing proofs.
To enable the Draft output option, follow these steps.
Note Some printers may not support this option.
    Start Word.
    Click File, and then click
    Word Options.
In the Word Options dialog box, click Advanced, and then scroll down to the Printing
    section.
Click to select the Use draft quality check box, and then click OK.
    Ÿ
Use the background printing option that best fits your requirements
When background printing is enabled, you can continue to work in Word while your document prints in the background. Background printing uses additional
memory, and your document may print more slowly.
When background printing is disabled, your document prints faster. However you cannot work in Word until the print job is completed. If you do not have
to continue to work in Word while your document prints, disable background printing to speed up printing.
To do this, follow these steps:
    Start Word.
    Click File, and then click
    Word Options.
In the Word Options dialog box, click Advanced, and then scroll down to the Printing
    section.
Click to clear the Print in background check box, and then click OK.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Terminal Server and Outlook 2013 Profile

Really hoping someone can offer some advice on this one as I have wasted far to many cycles trying to figure this out.
Company I work for recent purchased another company and we are in the process of bringing them into our network.  They currently run a a 2008 R2 terminal server where all users connect to for there day to day work.  A number of applications
    are installed including Office 2013.
All users have Outlook 2013 configured to access their exchange server for email and this works fine.
The first step in bringing them into our fold is to add an email account for Our Exchange  server without removing their existing exchange configuration or Outlook Profile.  So the one profile will have both exchange accounts listed and they can
continue to get email from their server but as well email from our domain.
I created a MSP file and tested pushing this out using PDQ Deploy to a few workstations here in our office and it works fine.  I then started to work on deploying in their environment.  PDQ Deploy will not work as they are all terminal Services
Clients.  So I tried to push out via GPO.  I created the GPO Initially wanting to use a package and apply that GPO to an AD group.  However it will not let me deploy a MST as a package.  So I then tried moving it to a script that would
run at logon.  That too is not working.
I know I could enter install mode then run the MSIEXEC.EXE \config.MSP but that takes away the ability to control the role out.
Any other ideas on how to get this done.

  • No Default Mail Client Error with Outlook 2010, Server 2008 R2 Terminal Server, and TAM

We are running a software package on a Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Server called TAM (The Agency Manager) along with Outlook 2010.  The application uses a MAPI connection to retrieve mail data from Outlook to be able to send and receive messages inside
the application.  On our individual PC's this works just fine, but on the Terminal Server users we get the message "Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request.  Please run Microsoft Outlook
and set it as the default mail client."
I've tried the steps listed in KB 813745 which tells you to delete the registry keys and run a repair in Office, but that didn't resolve the issue.  I've searched on this issue, but haven't found anything useful.  Any suggestions would be much
    appreciated.

Try to set DEP and add outlook.exe. I had outlook 2007 same problem. With DEP enabled and outlook, word en excel also added to the list it worked again.
You can find it under this computer, properties, then change settings. Click advanced tab and then select the first "settings" option. The click the "Data Execution Prevention" (DEP) and select the last option and add the office programs
    there.
    Hope this helps.

  • Explorer folder update issues Server 2008 R2 Terminal Server

    Hi Folks,
We are having a few issues here. We have a cluster of 5 Server 2008 X64 R2 SP1 Terminal Servers running Citrix Xenapp 6. Our file server is a Server 2008 R2 SP1 server also. All servers are virtualised on ESX vSphere 4.0 and are connected to an EMC
    FC SAN.
The users have an application which references a mapped drive (K in this example). This mapped drive is populated with contents from a network scanner. The file extensions change from PDF, JPEG, JPG and GIF. The files are stored on the 2K8 X64 R2 file server.
This all works fine, however the users are getting intermittent 'refresh' problems if you will. Sometimes after the user scans to the folder they will not see the item which was scanned however another user on the _same_ server will be able to see the item
that has just been scanned to file. If I login to the server via remote desktop I can also see the files also. It can take from 2minutes to 30minutes before the users explorer will actually refresh and be able to see the files. During this time if the user
creates a folder in the my documents which is also redirected/hosted on the 2K8 R2 file server they see the changes immediately. If the user logs in and logs out of the Terminal Server the file which was scanned is immediately available to the user.
**NOTE** this problem does not occur every time
Below is a list of the things that I have tried
Changing the Icon size and layout under explorer
Changing the layout from thumbnails to list etc
    Disabled SMB 2.0
Completed SMB tuning for Xenapp and Explorer on the limit of concurrent connections etc
    Disabled Windows Search
    Disabled Indexing
Changed the folder to be both offline and online
    Index offline and online folders
Disabled "Client for Microsoft Networks" on the network card
Disabled IPV6 on both Terminal Servers and File server
Ran filemon in compatibility mode on the file server (I can see the file being created)
I have changed the scanning location on the 2K8 R2 file server to no avail
I have checked the file share and it is indeed set to Maximum allow concurrent connections
Checked Perfmon and the disk queue is running about 0.4
I'm now at a loss.. any advise would be great! thanks folks.

    Hi,
Does this issue happen on a Windows client? Like the Windows 7 and Windows XP.
Meanwhile, I would give you the following suggestions for your reference:
    1.
By default, Windows Explorer generates a lot of SMB traffic - which can result in poor file server performance in some circumstances.
However, some of this traffic is superfluous and can be reduced - for example:
•Searches for Desktop.ini files used for folder customization
    •Periodic refreshes of folder contents
•Searches for supporting library (.dll) files
•Individual file details and attributes pulled for each file
    •Thumbnail extraction
There are some registry changes you can implement to optimize the SMB traffic being generated.
Import the settings below on client machines.
Terminal Servers running in Application Mode should be considered client machines in this scenario.
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

Please try to temporarily disable all firewall and anti-virus software to check whether this issue can be fixed.
    3.
Please check if the problematic user is still on one switch. If so, I would guess there is an issue on switch.
In this case, you’re using Citrix when this issue happens. I suggest you contact Citrix engineer to particularly ask whether they saw the
similar issue running on Citrix and how to fix it.

  • Instant Search not working on local mailbox in Outlook 2007 on Windows Server 2008 R2 Terminal Server

Sometime last week Instant Search stopped working on a Terminal Server we have deployed. I don't use Outlook on the server so I didn't notice it myself but users started complaining several days ago. When I checked instant search settings everything was
grayed out. I noticed that the feature for Windows Search was disabled so I enabled that feature rebooted the server and now instant search is looking for email in archive folders and sharepoint lists. Local Mailbox mail however is not being indexed by instant
search. When I check data files it says that there is no file for the local mailbox. I checked and Cached Exchange Mode is disabled so no OST is being created and apparently there is no PST for it either.
Do I need an OST/PST to search the local mailbox?
Also I have added the Office GPO Templates and enabled the GPO for allowing Cached Exchange Mode but that doesn't seem to be helping either. Please help.

Have you had any luck with this?
One of our clients has reported that 5 different users, when RDP'd into 3 different RDS Servers, cannot use the Instant Search.
I haven't been able to find anything about this in my online searches.
Like you, the mailboxes aren't even appearing under Instant Search > Search Options.  Also, it would appear that there are no locally-hosted .ost/.pst's for any of the users on this server; can the instant search function work on a .pst that's saved
    somewhere else on the network?

  • Installing additinal cals in existing 2008 R2 terminal server.

    <style type="text/css">P { margin-bottom: 0.08in; }</style>
    Hi ,
we are using windows server 2008 R2 terminal licensing server which is having 10 user CALs
now we planned to purchase some more CALS for example additional 20 CALS per user
Note : This is the first time we are adding the CALs in existing cals server.
    Kindly clarify my query below:
    1. what is the procedure to add the CALS with existing CALs.?
    2. while installing the new license do we need to deactivate the terminal server ?what will be the impact ?
    3. whether we need to define the users per CALs ?
    Regards,
    Baki.

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Based on your description, it seems that you already have RDS License server & RDS per User CAL installed on server 2008 R2. And now you want to add other RDS User CAL. For this you can follow the same procedure when you add the CAL. Also suggest you to
contact MS Clearing house and explain him the whole scenario that you want to add the CAL to your existing environment and they will help you to achieve your goal.

  • Firefox 22 update crashes on startup in server 2008 R2 terminal environment. Downgrading back to 21 works fine though.

Firefox updated to version 22 and immediately started crashing on startup. Doing a completely clean reinstall does not solve the problem, as soon as the install finishes it immediately crashes. I have since installed version 21 from an old install file and it is working fine, so something with version 22 apparently does not like our Server 2008 R2 terminal environment. The server has the latest OS updates and AV/malware scans are performed routinely.

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing when you open it. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.
#Press the following shortcut to get a Run window: [Windows] + [R]. This should bring up a window that contains a text field.
#In that text field, enter %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
#From that explorer window, double-click on the ''Mozilla'' folder, then double-click on ''Firefox'' and then on ''Crash reports''. Double-click on ''submitted''.
#Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to ''View'' > ''Arrange Icons by'' > ''Modified'' to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
#Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
#Paste each ID with '''bp-''' into the reply window on the forums.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Does Safari run in Windows Server 2008 R2 (Terminal Services)?

does Safari run in Windows Server 2008 R2 (Terminal Services)?

    Hi Jess,
Here are two things I suggest you check:
The Monitoring interval is set to 900 minutes, would the profile size get reduced after 15 hours and run
    gpupdate/force?
Since the Sessenv.dll version is higher than the ones described in KB 2575946, the issue is supposed to be fixed. I suggest you run System File Checker to scan all protected system files.
In addition, you can also collect Gpsvc.log to determine if policies are applied successfully.

  • How to add Windows 2012 R2 RDS to Existing Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Server

I currently have a Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Server running and I am looking to add a Windows Server 2012 R2 server to it. All I see when I google the setup is only for Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS, cant find anything to integrate with a current 2008 R2 Terminal
    Server.
Can anyone help with this or point me to a blog I possibly missed?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your comment.
Yeah, agree with diramoh; as already commented. If you want user session from RDS Server 2012 R2 then you need to  install RDS License role on server 2012 R2, purchase and install RDS CAL (per user or per device) according your requirement and then you
can use user session for server 2012 R2 and also for lower version.
But as you already have Server 2008 R2 RDS CAL, then with that you can simply access lower version but can’t manage Server 2012\R2.

  • Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Server.

    Hi,
I was wondering about running Adobe Acrobat Std X (10) on a Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Server for two users. Anyone else that have any experience with this? Best solution?
    Best regards
    Vegard

Although Server 2008 R2 is a supported install platform, you'll have to be extremely careful about licensing - Acrobat is not a server product, so the only person who would be legally permitted to connect to it would be the one who owns the copy of Acrobat in question. Sharing a copy between multiple users is not an option; for that there are dedicated server-based solutions such as LiveCycle.

  • Logging into a specific server in a terminal server farm

We have several terminal server farms and in each farm we have the need for 1 user to always log into a specific server in the farm.   This is due to a little piece of sortware that is required for a device that only this one user has and
the fact the it is licensed to only one server.   The user must use that server for it to work.  I want to include this server in the farm because it seems silly to have a server for only one user.    How can I point one PC/user
to the same server in the farm all the time?  We are using the Connection Broker and NLB which seems to work just fine for all other users.
    Thanks

    Hi Steve,
What operating system version are you running on your servers?  Server 2008 R2?  Server 2012?
When you configure a RDS farm to be load-balanced by the connection broker, all servers in the unique farm are intended to have the exact same applications installed.  The idea is the RDCB can redirect users to different servers as needed to balance
the load, and that you may take any particular server (or servers, if you have enough) offline and your farm will still work.
Now, there are always exceptions and I understand it would be nice if you could assign a user/app to a specific server to handle a case like yours.  For example, you would understand this particular user or app would not be load-balanced or highly
available and if the one server was down it would not work, but other users/RemoteApps would be load-balanced as usual.  This is
not a feature of the current versions of RDS.
To do what you want the "best way" would require writing a custom plugin for RDCB.  In your custom plugin you would specifiy the load-balancing logic.  For example, when one of the "special" users logs on, your logic would direct them to the
correct specific server, but when a regular user logs on you would allow the normal RDCB load-balancing logic to apply.  Please see here for more information:
Terminal Services Session Broker Plug-in reference
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/cc644962(v=vs.85).aspx
Besides writing a custom plugin I suggest you consider the following workarounds:
    1. Instead of running the app under RDSH, run it in a Win7/Win8 VM pool if possible.  Either a pool of identical VMs or assign each user that needs to run the app to a dedicated VM.  Downside of this is added complexity, licensing for VDI,
and an increase in hardware resources required to run the VMs.
    2. Have the user connect to the server using /admin.  You can change the permissions so that a specific group may connect using a /admin connection, without them being administrators.  Downside of this is that some features
of RDSH are not present when connected as an administrative RDP session, and only two Active admin sessions are permitted.
    3. If running Server 2008 R2 you could set the server so that it does not participate in load balancing and have the users that need to run this special app connect directly to the server's ip address instead of to the farm name.  Downside of this
is that you will get more uneven load distribution, however, it may not be that bad if you are balancing your initial connections using NLB and you have all of your regular users connecting to the farm name as usual.
    4. Have a separate server in each farm (not joined to the farm) just for this one app.  If possible they could be VMs with not much resources dedicated to each.  I know this is what you did not want to do, but I mention it because an
extra base Windows Server license, one for each farm, is likely less additional cost than licensing the special software on
all servers.  If you can run the app in VMs then the additional hardware cost of doing it this way is reduced.

I compared the registry with a working system but the Counters - and all other keys - looked fine.
At the same time as upgrading a DC a colleague was updating an unrelated server, and he started to see similar events in the event log (but for the Dell OpenManage Essentials service, not ADWS). The error was complaining about KERNELBASE.dll which set my
spider sense tingling. We knew that this server had Windows Updates pending. Fully updating it solved the problem on that server.
I solved the ADWS problem in the end by fully Windows Updating the DC. In particular, the ADWS Service started successfully after installing KB2919355 and rebooting. That also
'unlocked' a further 59 updates pending.
After the in-place upgrade I always fully Windows Update but I'm 99% certain that KB2919355 did NOT show up when I did a Check for Updates straight after a reboot so I thought the DC was up-to-date. I then spent hours investigating the ADWS problem and rebooted
as part of the diagnostics. It was then that I noticed on the logon screen that there were updates pending...
Moral of the story? Windows Update, then Update again, and again, and again. The length of time it takes to Windows Update after an upgrade from 2008R2 to 2012R2 is painful though.

  • Printing issues when printing to Server 2008 R2 Print Server

We have a problem with netwok printing that encompasses many different areas and versions of Windows OSes so I will be posting this in a few different places.
Let me lay this out for you. We have a single Server 2008 R2 print server with 300 printers of various models. This print server has both 32 and 64-bit drivers installed for every printer. For the HP printers we are using the HP Universal Printing PCL 6
(version 61.94.3.37) and for the Ricoh printers we are using their PCL6 driver for universal printing version 3.5. All drivers run in Isolation mode and no printer gets published to AD.
We have a mix of Windows clients printing to these printers, both XP Pro and Windows 7 32 and 64-bit.
Now for the problems: The other day one Isolation host on the server went crazy, processing was hitting 100% and memory was fluctuating and growing a lot. After investigating a little that isolation host was having issues accessing the Ricoh Driver (which
was 3.4 at the time). In an attempt to resolve the issue we updated the driver to V. 3.5. This seemed to fix the isolation issues and things calmed down however this is the beginning of many other issues for the clients. Both Windows OS versions (XP and 7)
don't seem to be either downloading and installing the updated driver and/or doing so correctly. Clients are now experiencing extremely slow printing, applications such as Word, Outlook, Excel and others open slowly and it can take 2-3 minutes for print dialog
boxes to open. In all cases it seems that we have to have a tech delete the printer(s), delete the driver and then re-install the printer to make things better but for some reason, which is really unknown, this process doesn't work for every machine and on
some we can't even remove the old drivers at all without booting into SafeMode and doing it that way.
With all of that said, are there any suggestions as to why the clients aren't downloading and installing the drivers from the server correctly? How to avoid these issues when we need to upgrade the drivers on the server in the future? Most importantly right
now, are there any recommendations or scripts on how to force the deletions of the printer, driver, reset the print spoolers and then re-add the printers in a more automated fashion?
I have played with both wmic, pnputil and printuidll and am trying to put something together but without a set solution that will work consistently it becomes a lot more difficult.

We are experiencing a very similar issue.
Windows Server 2008 R2. Printers are deployed over group policy.
Clients range from Windows 7 to Windows 8. Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp environment also connects to these endpoints.
We have A wide assortment of HP printers, and Ricoh Printers.
For the ricoh's we have been historically using the PCL6 drivers for the individual device type (not universal print). Up till recently, it all was working fine, until about some time in the middle of june, when everything just seemed to go crazy.
The issue was resolved by moving off from the PCL 6 drivers and using the PCL5e driver counterparts on all of our ricoh printers.
It would crash XenDesktop applications, it would crash office applications.
The print spooler would lock up, even if the ricoh printers were not actually used, just as long as they were loaded.
Even after loading PCL5 on the servers, some of the clients would simply not download the PCL5 version of the driver from the print server. In order to resolve this, I have created the steps below. Be advised, this may possibly cause damage on your system.
We just found it worked great for us. Local printers will likely have to be manually reinstalled after this.
    Directions
    Stop the print spooler
Open C:\Windows\System32\Spool and delete the following
    All files in SERVERS
    All files in PRINTERS
    All files in drivers
    All files in prtprocs
    Start the print spooler
Open a command prompt as administrator, and run the following command
    Cscript C:\windows\system32\Printing_Admin_Scripts\en-US\prndrvr.vbs -x
This should further delete all print drivers.
Open a command prompt as a standard user (not administrator) and run the following
    Gpupdate
Now wait. It takes a while, but the printers will slowly start to repopulate.
I am still not sure what is going on with the PCL6 drivers for ricoh, and why this issue is happening. I'm guessing it has something to do with the Ricoh auto update that is included in their pcl6 drivers. Maybe some sort of auto update happened recently.
